Car Talk › Re: About Paying For This Car Kindly Advice by redcliff: 7:27am On Oct 28, 2014 |
FlyboyZee: They said the Acura is a no-go area, yet I own a 2002 TL that makes the '08 Toyota Camry look like a toy both in performance and facilities. All I do is scan the car, get the codes, go online and do more research on the codes just to be sure of what I am doing. Then call a mechanic and tell him exactly what to do while supervising him. Each time I go to my mechanic, he wqits for me to give him step by step instructions. Gbam!!!..that way you and him get to learn much more from the process.. |
Car Talk › Re: About Paying For This Car Kindly Advice by redcliff: 6:50pm On Oct 27, 2014 |
FlyboyZee: This is the exact reason I have always refused to buy a Toyota. Everyone's shouting Toyota! Toyota!! so Irefused to buy any of it to see if the other brands I bought would kill me but so far they've all been wrong. In my motoring life, I have owned 4 Hondas (EOD, '88 Prelude, '02 Acura TL & '10 Civic Coupé), 2 Nissans ('00 2.0l Primera & '05 Almera Tino) and a Mercedes Benz 190E, but no Toyota and I have not had any regrets with any of these cars. I had friends who scolded me for my choice and for hating anything Toyota that owned Toyotas who had made mechanics their besties and neighbours just to transit from A to B.
What I have come to notice is that people who are scared of other brands of vehicles other than Toyotas are those that drive very old vehicles, as in 1999 and below. for most guys who buy vehicles made from 2003 to date, they rarely bother themselves about what make to get because even the mechanics that would insist you buy tiny light camry are usually at lost on what to do even on the 2003 Camry. Most cars these days are mechatronical or at worst electrically controlled and maintained and as such those mechanics have little or no input to make in car maintenance as most of them have refused to update their skills. I hate the way nigerians think. And its poverty causing it. My first car was a volkswagen and any problem it had i was the one that caused it.. the only problem that car gave me was the fuel pump and when i found out what to do to it the problem stopped for good and i fixed it myself even after mechanics under my watchful eyes tried their best.. i really felt good having that car and it make me believe that our mechanics are very stewpid ay their jobs. Because with full time research, i dictated to them what to do because they have the tools but i knew what i was expecting as a result so all energies were channeled towards that direction.. the only cars i may not buy in nigeria are those brand names i may not find their parts in the market at all. But for the normal 5 star car companies in the world, i would use any brand, model and year that pleases me. |

When you own a kai picanto and it has climate control and you are cruising in it, ou feel too cool in it and think that you are untop of the world until you see a range rover drive past you. At that point you realize that the car you are feeling good with is actually crap! |

Car Talk › Re: About Paying For This Car Kindly Advice by redcliff: 11:17am On Oct 27, 2014 |
chiebube: I dont believe in the fact that some people say one car is better than another. For a used car, it entirely depends on the state of the car when you buy it. Though camry may have an edge over the benz, but it depends on the owner's use/abuse of the car, the mechanic who repairs your car and what kind of spare parts you buy. What is good for the goose may certainly not be good for the gander.
Are you a novice, amateur or professional in car maintenance? My exact same thoughts. I wont come here to see advice on the kind of car to buy. because whatever you get here is more of a personal opinion rather than rational one. If you like a car and you think you can maintain it then go ahead and buy it. Simple!!! |

ruffhandu: A day of reckoning indeed will come, albeit to everyone. Amaechi has actually gone off handle and has belittled himself before people like me, who only participated in the last election for his and Jonathan's sake, by some of his unbridled utterances.
He attended a convocation somewhere in PortHarcourt recently and told the crowd that he did not come to deliver an address as invited, but to incite them to rise against the president
It is sickening. He may need to be mentally evaluated so we don't keep assuming all is well with him.
To say he has lost all sense of decorum is not out ouf place. Inasmuch as he doesn't give heed to third party advice, people close to him should make efforts to caution him.
Talkativeness is not a mark of bravery, but the opposite This must be ruben abati's nairaland handle. |

Its always best to understand the context people come from before making a fool of yourself. Ettiquette demands that ladies should be im front. I have no problem with that, its a code we grew up to get accustomed to. Look at the difference between both pictures again and hide yourhead in shame. Nairaland General › Re: FG To Ban Commercial Motorcycles Nationwide by redcliff: 9:29am On Oct 26, 2014 |
stinggy: My line of thought too sire. But alas, we are where we are now. Things have deteriorated and our people has evolved so as to sustain livelihood. I for one want okadas scrapped, totally, but we must get provide jobs albeit petty or risk the unrest that is bound to follow such a pronouncement. We can't over-emphasize the importance of a functioning rail system, infact it is what we need most at a time like this The safety is just too mad if you include it as dome of its perks.. the number of people that die daily from road accidents should be up to 150k each year you cant have that if the bulk of people use rail transport. i wish i had the power to effect change the way i have experienced it in developed countries.. |
Nairaland General › Re: FG To Ban Commercial Motorcycles Nationwide by redcliff: 9:06am On Oct 26, 2014 |
stinggy: As much as I believe okadas should be banned, my fear is 'We are not there yet'. No alternatives for now. I think there should be reliable loan scheme(at all levels of government) for youths to acquire cheap taxis so as to support livelihood since jobs aren't forthcoming, we can introduce tricycles as they are safer, but more importantly, roads should be fixed.
And this is how I think this will go:
After the ban on Okada riders, a means that gives about 1.2 million people job, this FG will then provide three 48-sitter buses to each state, after this, GEJ will go on air to announce to the world that he has given 2.5 million people job... And that's what they call 'Fresh Air' Okada as a means of transport if iam not wrong started in the early 90s. My question to you is this, how were people faring before then? Did they die? No! They still had it done. My only fear is that armed robbery would go back to the days of where thieves just came to your houses to steal tvs, iron and dvd players just to be able to eat. For a population of Nigeria where you have over 200million people and no functioning railway system, then there is something wrong with the government..i tell you.. imagine if Nigeria had a running railway system. You can live in lagos and work in ondo which by an unobstructed railway system would be 1hr.. |
