OONI OF IFE VISIT TO BRAZIL - WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YORUBA RACE Ooni Visits Oldest African Temple, Proclaims Bahia Capital Of Yoruba Nation In Americas Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has proclaimed Bahia, a state in Brazil as the headquarters of Yoruba nation in the Americas. The royal father made the proclamation on during a visit to the oldest temple owned by the blacks in Salvador, the headquarters of Bahia state. The royal father, alongside 17 notable royal fathers drawn across South West states and Kwara, Ifa priests, university teachers, culture promoters and newsmen, are currently on the tour of the Latin American nation. The temple called Espaco Cultural Da Barroquinha, according to Bahia state's Commissioner for African Affairs, Arany Santa, was established about 600 years ago by the African descent. She further explained that the temple used to be a Catholic church, until the blacks acquired it, and had since used it as a place of worship by the adherents of traditional African religion. From the songs rendered, mode of dressing and worship, the adherents clearly established their links to the Yoruba race and expressed their desire to further deepen their knowledge about their roots. Addressing the adherents, Ooni Ogunwusi, said before leaving Nigeria, he consulted the ancestors and prayed for successful trip, adding that signs were obvious since he came into the country that things were going to change for better for not only the descendants of Oduduwa but the entire residents of Bahia. Ooni further posited: "I commend you for keeping Yoruba heritage, religion and culture alive, several years after circumstances forced you away from the ancestral home. I am assuring you of my support in whatever way such is needed to make you remain close to your roots back in Nigeria and Yorubaland. "I demand from you love and special care for the women. When all of you living far away from us back home, live in love, I will be happy and sleep with two eyes close." Titled "Solemn Declaration of Bahia as Yoruba Capital of the Americas", a statement by Moses Olafare, Director of Media, Ooni's Palace, said Ooni Ogunwusi and the Mayor of Salvador, ACM Neto, signed the declaration, conferring on Bahai status of capital city for the Yoruba people in the Americas. The declaration reads in parts: "Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Ooni of Ile Ife, by the power and ase given to me by the ancestors and the 400 Irunmole of the Yoruba orisa pantheon as the Arole Oduduwa, sole occupier of the Source throne of Oduduwa, the mystical founder and father of the entire Yoruba nation, both in the African homeland and in diaspora, do hereby decree and solemnly declare as follows; 1. That this nobel land of Bahia de todos as Santos shall henceforth be officially referred to and recognised as the Yoruba capital of the Americas. 2. That this solemn declaration is being accorded in recognition of the long standing historical and cultural protagonism of the African descendants in this land, who have laboured incessantly in the course of the last five centuries to preserve the African, especially the Nago-Yoruba cultural, historical and religious worldwide which they kept alive by dint of collective determination as a source of cultural and communal pride, sociopolitical and economic emancipation. 3.That the citizens and children of this noble land shall henceforth be considered as authentic children of the great Oduduwa in the same way as their brothers and sisters in the Yorubaland. 4. That the land of Bahia de todos as Santos shall henceforth be invoked in all the prayers and blessings offered in the palace of Oonirisa, Alase Adimula in Ile Oduduwa, especially on the annual occasion of the Olojo festival when the Ooni wears the ancient and the most sacred Are crown to bless the entire Yoruba nation and the il'eya omo Oduduwa, when the Ooni celebrates his coronation anniversary with the world. Responding, Christiane Taquari, Bahia state Commissioner for Culture, commended the royal father for the visit, and assured him of their readiness to obey all his admonitions and further preserve Yoruba traditions and culture. Also in a remarks Ambassador of Guinea Bissau to Brazil, Dr. Rui Barai, acknowledged the leadership role Nigerian government has been playing in Africa, especially West Africa at ensuring that peace reigns across the region. Barai added that he chose to attend the event because of severial reports about activities of Ooni Ogunwusi he has read and urged him not to relent in his pursuance of peace and efforts aimed at reuniting all descendants of the Yoruba race. Also commenting, honourary consular, Guinea Bissau to Brazil, Adailton Maturino does Santos, called for support for Ooni Ogunwusi for him to successful implement all his laudable programmes designed to foster unity among the descendants of Oduduwa. He added: "News about Ooni's peace project is all over the world. He needs support by all to successful implement all he plans, as successful implementation of the programmes will foster peace and engender economic prosperity for the Yoruba race."

BIZARRE! That’s the word to describe the gang-raping of two teenage girls by men old enough to be their fathers in Ondo town. Ondo has been in the news in recent times for bad reasons. It is seen in many quarters as the haven for youths and men of questionable character. If road transport workers in the town are not killing themselves over leadership tussle, cult members, in supremacy battle, are hacking each other to death in broad daylight. The latest bad news from Ondo is the gang-rape of two girls by five men who also videotaped the crime scene and posted it on social media to further debase their victims. The alleged rapists are identified as Olabanji Femi, Abiodun Ayodele, Fadairo Wahab, Bode Akinsiku and Adedayo Adebayo. Sunday Vanguard learnt that the suspects, now in prison custody, tortured the girls before they were gang-raped and mindlessly invited some other men to have sex with the girls. Notable personalities in the town, including the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo, have condemned the act while traditionalists in the town rose to appease the gods of the land for the abomination. Police sources said the suspects, during interrogation, alleged that the girls stole from one of them after they were invited for a party. As a punishment, the suspects were said to have decided to torture, gang- rape and videotape the scene and posted the recording on the social media. Meanwhile, according to the sources, the girls denied the allegation of theft levelled against them by the suspects. Four girls had been reportedly lured to a party at the residence of one of the suspects. All of the four turned up but two sensed danger and left almost immediately. The two girls, who stayed, it was gathered, were the ones who allegedly became victims of the alleged inhuman treatment by the suspects. In a statement to the police, the victims denied stealing from any of the suspects, saying they were invited to a party organised by the daughter of one of the suspects and that, on getting there, they discovered that it was a trap to get back at them for turning down sexual advances from members of a group in the town. One of them disclosed that after the five men took turns to rape them, they invited their friends by phone to come and “eat free meal”. According to her, the suspects accused them of refusing the sexual advances of their group members while sleeping with less important group members in the town hence the need to disgrace them by posting the recording on the social media. The victims said they could barely walk thereafter because of what the suspects did to them, pointing out that they were equally flogged and tortured. One of them said, “They stripped us naked, seized our clothes and recorded the rape scene. They threatened to take us to the street naked. “They lured us to the area around noon, held us hostage for several hours during which they did all that pleased them with us. They freed us in the evening and we reported the matter to one of my brothers who vowed to get the video and report the matter to the police. “Though family members of the suspects begged us and promised to pay us huge sums of money for the rape and torture we were subjected to, my brother got the video recording and reported the matter to the police”. The brother of the victim who reported the alleged rape to the police (name withheld) told Sunday Vanguard that, following the suspects’ arrest, he had been receiving threat messages allegedly from the suspects’ backers. He, however, said that he was ready to testify against the suspects in court, adding that he had the video recording of the rape scene.. Ondo State Police Command corroborated the victim’s brother’s claim when it alleged that some powerful individuals were making efforts to frustrate the matter by threatening witnesses. Command spokesperson Femi Joseph confirmed the pressure from powerful groups in the town. “We are facing a lot of pressure on the matter”, he told Sunday Vanguard. Joseph said that some “powerful forces in the town” were doing everything possible to frustrate the case “but the command is determined to get justice for the raped girls”. “They have tried so much to kill the case but we did not allow that. Now they are working behind the scenes to ensure that they (victims) don’t come to court with the hope that if they don’t come to court, the case would die a natural death”, he added. “But we assure that the case will be prosecuted and the girls will be adequately protected to ensure that they are present in court. We will ensure their presence in court at the next date of adjournment. “The girls are not in police custody but safe. “They have been deliberately taken away from the public glare so as not to be accessible to the people who are pressurising them. “The girls are not missing. We are facing a lot of pressure on their matter, but, on our part, we are assuring of their safety, nothing will happen to them. This is a case of national interest and we need them to diligently prosecute the case”. Meanwhile, traditionalists in Ondo, last week, sealed off the gang-rape suspects’ houses in the town. The development, it was learnt, was to appease the gods over the alleged abominable act. Sunday Vanguard gathered that before the sealing off of the houses of the suspects, the traditionalists had converged on a traditional spot at Sora Street in the town where they offered appeasement prayers. The traditionalists, including women, reportedly chased out residents of the houses and used palm fronds to barricade the entrance. They chanted incantations while performing the rites. The traditionalists were said to have been concerned about the rape of teenagers in the town. One of the traditionalists, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “If you watch the gang-rape video, you will agree that it is a taboo to sexually assault a girl not only in Ondo town but also in Yoruba land. We have been hearing stories of rape in our community. We don’t want a repeat of such an ungodly act.” He commended the Osemawe -in- Council for approving the traditional rites and the sealing-off of the suspects’ houses while lauding participants for “their patriotism and love for the community”. According to him, the video recording of the gang-rape, apart from going viral on the Internet, the Osemawe-in-Council had received several calls on the issue. He explained that the action of the traditionalists was also to forestall what he described as such ungodly attitude among youths of Ondo. “We were so much worried when we heard that the whereabouts of the girls were unknown. It was said that they had been taken away from the community by unknown persons apparently to stall trial. It was also rumoured that the principal suspect had been released from detention”, the traditionalist said. He called on the police, the judiciary and other stakeholders in law enforcement to ensure justice on the matter. In the meantime, the suspects have been ordered to be remanded in police custody by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ondo. The charges against them are conspiracy, rape, defamation of character, torture and videotaping nakedly. |

An Afternoon In The School When will the bell ring, and end this weariness? How long have they tugged the leash, and strained apart My pack of unruly hounds: I cannot start Them again on a quarry of knowledge they hate to hunt, I can haul them and urge them no more. No more can I endure to bear the brunt Of the books that lie out on the desks: a full three score to mark Of several insults from parents and of blotted pages and scrawl Of slovenly work that #NPOWER have offered me. I am sick, and tired more than any thrall Upon the woodstacks working weariedly. And shall I take The last dear fuel and heap it on my soul Till I rouse my will like a fire to consume Their dross of indifference, and burn the scroll Of their insults in punishment? - I will not! I will not waste myself to embers for them, Not all for them shall the fires of my life be hot, For myself a heap of ashes of weariness, till sleep Shall have raked the embers clear: I will keep Some of my strength for myself, for if I should sell It all for #NOPWER, I should hate them - - I will sit and wait for the bell and Buhari for a permanent deal. |

Blame Ondo Governor, Akeredolu, Fayemi for return of Bloodshed to Ekiti. The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi invaded Ekiti State with armed policemen and thugs, throwing the State that has been peaceful since the advent of Governor Ayodele Fayose's government into bloodshed. Akeredolu led the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi to Ekiti in a show of federal might and in the process, seven people were hit by police bullets. At the APC secretariat, one of the mobile policeman, was said to be using his gun to push away the thugs brought from Ondo State and the hoodlums in turn dragged the gun with him, leading to sporadic shootings that left six persons shot. One of those injured was Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele. Five others also had gunshot injuries. The APC thugs backed by armed policemen later went on rampage at Ojumose area of Ado Ekiti, destroying the canopies and chairs in front of the residence of late Prince Adegoke. One of the Teargas cannisters fired by the policemen hit a Taxi driver, Odeyemi Olumide badly injuring him. He is now receiving treatment at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, alongside five others who were shot at the APC secretariat. As usual, the APC went to town with story that the policeman who fired the shots at the party secretariat was fake. However, information available to us is that the policeman was brought from Ondo State by Governor Akeredolu. Consequently, we challenge the Police authority to release the identity of the police officer to the public and how he left Akure for Ado Ekiti. We also wish to alert the public of the possibility of the APC shenanigans plotting to assassinate the policeman so as to sustain their lie that he is fake. We make bold to say that Governor Akeredolu of Ondo State and Dr Fayemi must be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in Ekiti State. We are aware of their mobilisation of thugs from Ondo State to Ekiti for the July 14. The governor even reportedly boasted that he was ready to spend two months allocation of Ondo State on Fayemi's election. The first manifestation of Governor Akeredolu's plot to ensure that Ekiti is taken by force was the bloodshed witnessed in the State today. Lastly, let Governor Akeredolu and his stooge, Kayode Fayemi know that Ekiti is not a state to be taken by force and annexed to Ondo State by anyone, our people will resist the APC agents of bloodshed.
