Two operatives were seen teargassing protesters who demanded Sowore's release. Omoyele Sowore was arrested in Lagos on the 3rd of August 2019, with respect to his nationwide call for a #RevolutionNow protest against the maladministration of the Government of the day. Despite a court order for his release, and subsequent fulfillment of the bail conditions set by the court, he had remained in detention. The operatives were to later disperse the crowd by assaulting some of them and using live ammunition.

FOLLOWING the confusion that trailed the Monday verdict of the Appellate Court, sitting in Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde, has declared that the mandate of the people of the state given to him through the March 9, 2019 election, remains intact. The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, declared that the mandate given to him by the people of the state could not be taken through the backdoor. The statement read: “There is no ambiguity as to the state of things in our Pacesetter State as far as the election of March 9, 2019, is concerned. Our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the election. The victory was reaffirmed by a ruling of the Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Ibadan, the state capital. “On Monday, the Court of Appeal, also sitting in Ibadan, delivered its judgement on the appeal by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo Adelabu. “In its ruling, the Appeal Court refused to grant any of the three key reliefs sought by the APC candidate. “The Court refused to nullify the election; it refused to order a fresh election and it also refused to order the retrial of the petition. “With the above being the reality of the outcome of the Appeal Court ruling, the election of Engineer Seyi Makinde as the Governor of Oyo State has just been reaffirmed. “There is nothing in the Appeal Court’s ruling that affects the returns made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and there is nothing that tampers with the mandate freely given to Engineer Seyi Makinde by the people of Oyo State.” The statement added: “Governor Makinde hereby urges the good people of Oyo State to remain calm and refuse to be provoked by agents of disruption who are seeking to upturn the truth, which remains constant against all odds. “We also wish to enjoin the people of Oyo State to ignore the doctored reports in some media outlets, which are merely quoting the judgement of the Court of Appeal out of context. “With a clear margin of Makinde’s 515,621 votes to Adelabu’s 357,982 votes, the preference of the people of Oyo State is as clear as day and night.” While reassuring the people of Oyo State that he cannot be deterred from taking the state to greater heights through the implementation of his four-point service agenda, Governor Makinde insisted that positive governance and unprecedented development will continue to be the portion of the people of Oyo state through his tenure. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/11/appeal-court-verdict-i-remain-oyo-gov-makinde/ Mynd44 Lalasticlala |

A protest broke out at the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Saturday over the continued detention of Omoyele Sowore, convener of RevolutionNow Movement. Sowore was arrested in Lagos on August 3 and subsequently flown to Abuja where he is being detained. Last month, a federal high court in Abuja granted him bail but the secret police refused to release him despite fulfilling the bail condition. On Friday, Peter Afunanya, spokesman of the secret police, acknowledged that the agency had received the order to release Sowore but said the service had not freed him because no one showed up on his behalf. However, on Saturday morning, lawyers, supporters and family members of the activist visited the DSS headquarters but were denied access to Sowore. Abubakar Marshal, one of the activist’s lawyers, arrived at the DSS office at 10am alongside some members of Sowore’s family but security operatives prevented them from gaining access to the facility. The operatives manning the gate had asked them of their mission and the lawyer introduced himself, saying he was was there to pick up his client. But they said he would not be allow in until they got clearance from their superiors. This led to altercation as the lawyer vowed not to leave there until Sowore is out. In the heat of the argument, a legal director at DSS put a call to Marshal, saying he was not around. This prompted some of the supporters of Sowore to stage a protest outside the headquarters of the secret police. They vowed to continue occupying the DSS headquarters until Sowore is released. After waiting for over three hours, some of the lawyers left. The statement of Afunanya that Sowore was not released because no one showed up on his behalf had sparked outrage among Nigerians. Femi Falana, lead counsel of the activist, had countered Afunanya, saying lawyers who spent at least four hours at DSS headquarters in connection with Sowore’s detention were not attended to on Wednesday. https://www.thecable.ng/protest-as-dss-fails-to-release-sowore

The Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi, has upheld the election of Barr Emmanuel Orkejev as the senator representing Benue North West. The court dismissed the appeal filed by former governor of Benue state, Senator George Akume of the All Progressive Congress (APC) challenging the declaration of Barr Orkejev by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as Senator. Recalled that the Tribunal had earlier dismissed the petition filed by Akume challenging the election of Barr Orkejev of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 9 elections. Unsatisfied with the tribunal ruling, Akume, the immediate past Senator and former minority leader in the Senate, approached the Appeal Court challenging the judgement of the lower court. In the judgement, the three-man panel led by Justice I G Mbaba whose judgment were read by justice Louise Otis, J.C.A upheld the judgment of the Tribunal on grounds that the appellant’s Appeal lacks merit, the appellant was also not able to proof his case. He concluded that all evidence were based on Hearsay evidence. https://thenationonlineng.net/just-in-appeal-court-upholds-senator-orkejevs-election/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
Nigerians under the platform of the Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria on Thursday in the United Kingdom protested at the Abuja House in London over the visit by President Muhammadu Buhari for alleged medical treatment. The protesters led by Gabriel Agbontaen, demanded that President Buhari should return home and fix Nigerian hospitals instead of seeking medical treatment abroad and planning for the importation of foreign medical Doctors. They highlighted the insecurity and lack of basic amenities in Nigeria while Nigerian politicians continued to travel abroad to enjoy facilities provided by the politicians of other countries. The protesters queried why President Buhari continued to patronise foreign services when foreign products such as rice had been banned by his government. Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Abba Kyari, on Monday travelled to London to meet with his boss to sign the amended bill of the Deep Offshore (and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract) Act which was recently passed into law by the National Assembly. In the course of his 2015 electoral campaign, President Buhari promised Nigerians that he will not seek medical treatment abroad. He recently banned ministers from unjustifiable international trips. Since his assumption in office, he had spent almost 200 days out of office for medical tourism. The protesters argued that since Buhari’s visit was private, he ought to privately incur the financial cost of his visits. About N10bn had been budgeted for the Aso Rock Clinic since Buhari assumed office in 2015, yet Aisha Buhari complained in 2017 that there was no syringe in the clinic. Though no government official came out of the Abuja House to address the protesters, who were there for over two hours, some persons were seen filming the demonstrators from inside the facility. The British police were there to ensure that the protest remained peaceful. http://saharareporters.com/2019/11/07/nigerians-uk-protest-buhari-visit |
The South-East states have received nothing less than N23.87 billion from the Federal Government as tax rebates. The Chairman, Joint Tax Board, Mr Babatunde Fowler, said this on Thursday in Awka, the Anambra State capital during the South-East geopolitical zone regional ceremony for the New National Registration System. He said, “The South-East states have already received N23.87 billion from the Federal Government. The gesture will encourage the state governments to reciprocate and promptly remit all withholding taxes and VAT due to the Federation Account.” He said a major feature of the new tax regime was that it possessed the capability to integrate with relevant agencies by leveraging on already captured data. Fowler said, “We recognise the huge entrepreneurial and commercial potential of Anambra State taking into consideration that the Onitsha main market is touted as the biggest market in West Africa, and we are well aware of the opportunities that this can have in shoring up the state’s IGR potential even more. “A look at the IGR performance of the South-East geopolitical zone also shows encouraging growth trends as the cumulative collection of N77.31 billion for the year 2018 was a 16.66 per cent improvement on the N66.27 billion collected in 2017. “The year 2019 is looking quite positive as well, already the sum of N42.98 billion has already been reported for the half-year period. This represents an 18.1 per cent growth over the N36.4 billion recorded for the half-year period of 2018. “This new reality drives the desire by the JTB to ensure that the identification of individuals and corporate bodies for tax purposes in Nigeria is achievable.” https://punchng.com/south-east-gets-n24bn-from-fg-tax-rebates/ Dominique Lalasticlala |

...Olujimi victory true reflection of people's wish- PDP ...Judgement travesty of Justice, APC The All Progressives Congress and People’s Democratic Party in Ekiti have reacted to the Appeal Court’s ruling which nullified the victory of Dayo Adeyeye of the APC, thereby declaring Senator Biodun Olujimi of the PDP. The Appeal Court on Wednesday upheld the September 10 judgement of the three-man panel of the election petition tribunal headed by Justice Danladi which ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return given to Adeyeye and issue a fresh one to Olujimi. The panel upheld Olujimi’s averments that there was no proper accreditation, there was no proper account of ballots and that the number of votes or ballots recorded is more or less than the number of accredited voters, among others. Appealing the judgement, Adeyeye filed a 19-ground appeal seeking two reliefs in his bid to upturn Olujimi’s victory at the Tribunal. The Senate spokesman prayed the appellate court “to allow the appeal and set aside the declaration and return of Olujimi.” Justice Uzor-Amaka Anyanwu who presided over the three-man panel of the Appeal, dismissed Adeyeye’s appeal, thereby declaring Olujimi as the Senator representing Ekiti South senatorial district. Reacting to the judgement, the ruling All Progressive Congress and the People’s Democratic Party expressed mix reaction over the judgement. While the opposition party commended the judiciary for upholding the victory of the party’s candidate, Olujimi described it as a travesty of justice. The party said that the judgment of both the lower tribunal and the appeal court did not come as a surprise because the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission did not reflect the true vote cast. But APC said the sack of the Senate Committee Chairman on Media and Public Affairs amounted to truncating the people’s wish. In a statement by the PDP Publicity Secretary in the State, Mr Jackson Adebayo, the Party berated INEC for studiously colluded with the All Progressive Congress to steal the mandate which was given to Sen Olujimi and PDP at the poll without minding the Democratic consequences on the nation. The Party, however, gave kudos to the judiciary for righting the wrong appropriately by declaring Sen Olujimi and PDP as the authentic winner of the National Assembly election. “We congratulate all members of our Party in the State and particularly congratulate Sen Biodun Olujimi for her courage to fight the battle to a victorious logical conclusion . ” The Party urge all the leaders as well as members of the Party to see this victory as that of God, hence the need to cooperate to move the Party forward. “We want to assure all our members that with the victory of Sen Olujimi there is a great future for the Party, what we just need is to walk in unison towards subsequent elections in the State ” The APC Director of Media and Publicity, Elder Sam Oluwalana, Oluwalana urged the people not to be discouraged by the court judgement, saying that they should continue to support the APC in the state in its quest to turn around the mismanaged economy of the state by immediate past regime. Oluwalana noted that the short period spent by Senator Adeyeye at the red chamber was indelible and remarkable for the people of Ekiti South and the state in general. “We commend Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who was highly-reverred by his colleagues in the Upper Chambers, for the exemplary leadership, which he exhibited within the short period he spent in the Senate. We area proud of his achievements during the period, as he was able to manage information outflow, without any scandal in the House”. He, however, appealed to the people to go about their normal businesses rather than taking the laws into their hand over the judgement. “We advise our supporters in the state not to be swayed by the judgement, but to rather remain steadfast with the state government, in its quest to make things better for the people of the state”, he added. https://thenationonlineng.net/apc-pdp-disagree-as-appeal-court-sacks-senate-spokesman-declares-olujimi/ Lalasticlala mynd44 |

Four members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives from Akwa Ibom, yesterday, floored their challengers at the Court of Appeal, Calabar Division. Upholding the judgment of the Akwa State Election Petition Tribunal, which confirmed the election of the four PDP lawmakers, the appellate court dismissed the applications from the All Progressives Congress (APC) petitioners seeking for the setting aside of their electoral victory. The National Assembly members include, Aniekan Umanah of Abak/Etim Ekpo Federal Constituency, whose election was challenged by Emmanuel Ekong; Michael Enyong of Uyo/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency, who was challenged by Edem Ekere Ekpenyong and Nse Ekpenyong (PDP) in Oron/Okobo/Mbo/Uruefong Aruko/Odung Uko Federal Constituency, contested by Victor Antai. However, the fourth case was an application by the defeated APC candidate, Mr. Bassey Etim, in which he prayed the court to set aside the judgement of the old Appeal Court panel. The old panel had earlier on October 18, not only upheld the election of Senator Bassey Albert (PDP) of Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial, but also affirmed the decision of the lower tribunal. But dissatisfied with the ruling, counsel to Etim had contended that the judgement was given in contempt of a letter from the Appeal Court President on October 11 setting up a new Appeal Court panel. Objecting to Etim’s position, counsel to Albert, Mr. Utibe Nwoko, countered that such a letter was an administrative procedure that does not constitute legal grounds on which a judgement could be set aside. The three Appeal Court judges, including Justice S. Tanko Hussen (chairman), Justices M. Bolaji-Yusuf and M. Mustapha, dismissed the application. The panel ruled thus: “The exhibits by the applicant are administrative orders and does not show that the Appeal Court acted outside it’s jurisdiction. We see no reason to set aside the judgement, this application is dismissed.” And ruling in the case of Uyo/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency, the judges unanimously struck out Ekpenyong’s petition on grounds that there is nothing like Uyo Federal Constituency, stressing that the appeal “lacks merit and substance and the preliminary objection (by Enyong) succeeds. The appeal is hereby struck out.” Similarly, in dismissing the appeals by Antai and Ekong, the Appeal Court asserted that they were lacking in merit, sine according to them, the appellants failed to prove their cases. Reacting to the outcome of the four appeals, the Akwa Ibom State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, appreciated the judiciary in Nigeria “for once again stamping their feet to register the confidence of Nigerians in the judicial system, which actual was shaken recently.” He said the Judiciary has sustained that courage of exhibiting characters that made them the last hope of the common man notwithstanding the political inclination. “The judiciary has been able to distinguish itself and acquit itself in terms of capacity, integrity and reputation. The judgements we have obtained have come to affirm the victories of our various candidates in both the federal constituencies and the Senate in Akwa Ibom state. “This is something that makes us believe that the judiciary is still the beckon of hope in Nigeria,” he added. On whether similar fate awaits the remaining cases, Nwoko said as those “who were part of the proceedings at the trial tribunals, we expect that all the cases in the appeal will be in our favour. “I don’t see any difference from what we have in the tribunal. What we have seen now are indicators and pointers to the trajectory of the direction, which the matters might go.” He urged the people of Akwa Ibom not to expect anything less, remarking that the quality, character and the integrity of the processes have been tested and the witnesses testified. “I expect that we will not have any problem in the cases before the Court of Appeal,” he reiterated. https://m.guardian.ng/politics/appeal-court-affirms-election-of-four-akwa-ibom-pdp-reps/ |
• Says ex-Lagos gov best man for presidency 2023 Scores of loyalists and supporters of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu have stormed Akure, the Ondo State capital to solicit the support of the people of the state and the South West region for Tinubu presidency in 2023. The party made up of politicians and non politicians from all the 18 local government areas of the state were under the umbrella of Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) Network Vision which was also inaugurated in the state today. The group declared that Tinubu is the best person to lead the country, describing him as a political strategist and grassroots mobiliser. At the meeting were the former Ondo State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Sola Amodeni; former Ondo State lawmaker, Hon Samuel Ade Pelemo; BAT Vision State Coordinator, Akinlolu Ayodele and his deputy, Bukky Oluderu. Speaking, the coordinator of the group, Ayodele maintained that the BAT vision was not just a group but a network movement to showcase the values and promote the essence of Tinubu’s leadership qualities. Ayodele said the meeting was to garner all minds together under the umbrella of BAT network vision, focusing on how the APC national leader will attain victory as Nigeria’s president in 2023. He observed that the platform would be used to test run the 2020 guber poll in the state, urging the citizenry to key into the group’s philosophy. Amodeni, who extolled the leadership virtues of the former governor said: “I believe in Tinubu’s vision; through his leadership at the national level of governance, Nigeria will not be the same in handling the menace of unemployment, insecurity and economic stagnation.” The former commissioner emphasised that the present hardship in the country especially …economy and security did not start with the APC. According to him” eight years of the administration of Buhari cannot even solve the multi-dimensional problem in the country. He is just laying the foundation that the likes of Tinubu can build on solidly, if he is given the mandate to rule after 2023.” He supported the closure of land borders in Nigeria, stressing that most of the fake drugs, illegal arms and ammunition with other contrabands were brought into the country through the land borders. Amodeni enthused that with the closure, crime rate was reducing gradually, adding that the order should be permanent and total. Ijabiyi said: “As a Yoruba man, Tinubu is worth celebrating. He has demonstrated good leadership in all facets of life; I am not hesitating to join the crusade of network movement of BAT to promote his vision for Nigeria.” https://www.sunnewsonline.com/tinubu-for-president-support-group-storms-ondo/

Lagos State has again failed to make its budget public four months after it was signed into law by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. This is despite Freedom of Information requests by The PUNCH to the Secretary to the State Government and the House of Assembly. Our correspondents also paid 10 visits in three months to both the legislative arm of government and the governor’s office but it was the same reply, “It is not yet ready, please come back later.” After the budget was signed into law by the newly inaugurated Babajide Sanwo-Olu on June 3, 2019, The PUNCH wrote an FoI request, seeking the release of the budget details on June 13, 2019. On Monday, July 8 – that is, three weeks after The PUNCH’s submission of the FoI letter requesting the budget – one of our correspondents visited the Governor’s Office at Alausa, Ikeja, to ask for an update. After interrogation by officials at the security gate and stating what his mission was, the correspondent was directed to the mail office, where all correspondence are first received before being dispatched to the various offices within the premises. At the mail office, an official, Mr Adesupo Adedeji, said the office had not received any letter from The PUNCH requesting the budget. The official said the Secretary to the State Government’s office, where the letter was initially submitted to, had not forwarded it to the governor’s office. The correspondent thereafter proceeded to the SSG’s office to confirm if the letter had not been forwarded to the governor’s office. At the SSG’s office, the correspondent was referred to the registry, where an official insisted the letter had been sent to the governor’s office through his Chief of Staff. Subsequently, the correspondent returned to the mail office at the governor’s office and told Adedeji that the SSG’s office confirmed the letter had been dispatched to the governor’s office. Adedeji then reluctantly told the correspondent to return on Wednesday, July 10, promising to follow up on the letter and give feedback. When one of our correspondents returned to the mail office on July 10, Adedeji said there was no response yet from the governor regarding The PUNCH’s letter. He then asked the correspondent to check back at the office on July 17. A week later when the correspondent again went to the office, Adedeji said he had not received any word yet on the FoI letter from the governor. Thereafter, he asked the correspondent to write a reminder to the office. The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, was contacted in August and he promised to intervene. However, subsequent calls and text messages were not responded to. The lack of transparency regarding budgeting and procurement in Lagos State has been a source of worry in the last eight years. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria had in its 2018 Accountability Index scored Lagos 29 per cent on government transparency. The state government has repeatedly ignored FoI requests, insisting that the Act only applies to Federal Government agencies despite a judgment by a Court of Appeal last year that the Freedom of Information Act was applicable to all states in Nigeria. An FoI request regarding the total amount budgeted for the upkeep of former governors of Lagos State was also ignored last year by the Akinwunmi Ambode administration. https://punchng.com/lasg-refuses-to-publish-details-of-n873-5bn-budget/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has said that no amount of blackmail would stop him from demolishing the hotel owned by Mr. Tony Kabaka because it was built on government property. Obaseki said there was no political undertone in the decision since he had warned in the past that his administration would not tolerate lawlessness. Obaseki, who spoke on the sidelines at the Annual General Meeting of the Edo/Delta branch of Manufacturing Association of Nigeria, said his administration is not afraid of anybody and would not succumb to blackmail. According to him: “Businesses cannot thrive when there is anarchy and complete disrespect for the law. For us as a government whatever we need to do to ensure that there is law and order will be done. “If you have done the wrong thing and taken over properties that is not yours, to build on government property is the wrong thing to do. If you go and build on road, that is not the right thing to do. If government tolerates that then more people will become lawless. “If any law has been breached in Edo State, I have sworn to the constitution to preserve order. This is a government that is not afraid of anybody and will not be subject to blackmail. Anybody who contravenes the law no matter how highly placed you are in Edo State, you will be dealt with. “It has no political undertone. If you go to Etete now, I am doing the same thing. I am fencing the sports centre. I have warned in the past that anybody who encroached on government land or school properties will be dealt with. Go to Bénin Technical College, that is evidence. As long as they continue to behave lawlessly, we will enforce the law.” https://thenationonlineng.net/kabakas-hotel-others-will-go-down-obaseki-vows/

Fisayo Soyombo, a Nigerian investigative reporter, says he has gone into hiding as Nigeria's security operatives hunt for him. The journalist is being wanted, according to reports, by the President Muhammadu Buhari regime, for exposing corrupt practices in the Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Correctional Service. “It's true. I'm in hiding,” Soyombo told SaharaReporters when asked to confirm if it was true that Nigeria's security agencies were hunting for him. If arrested, Soyombo might be charged with and prosecuted under Section 29 of the Nigeria Correctional Service Act. Fisayo, in his investigative report, spent two weeks in detention — five days in a police cell and eight as an inmate in Ikoyi Prison — to track corruption in Nigeria’s criminal justice system, beginning from the moment of arrest by the Police to the point of release by the prison. Adopting the pseudonym Ojo Olajumoke — feigned an offence for which he was arrested and detained in police custody, arraigned in court and eventually remanded in Prison. In the second of this three-part series, he exposes how the courts short-change the law, and the prisons are themselves a cesspool of the exact reasons for which they hold inmates. Since the release of the second part of his report, the Nigerian government has been on the trail of the journalist. It was gathered that the Buhari regime planned to arrest Soyombo at a workshop on fake news organised by Goethe Institute on Tuesday evening. He has since pulled out of the event. Nigerians on social media have raised concerns over the planned arrest. Dayo Aiyetan, the founder of the International Centre for Investigative Reporting condemned the planned arrest. “So for his #undercover work exposing #corruption in the #prisons, #Nigerian govt wants to arrest @fisayosoyombo & charge him for #Espionage? Shame on the govt,” he tweeted. Olusegun Awosanya, a human rights activist, also said any attempt to arrest Soyombo would be an affront on the nation. He said: “The Criminal Justice System is rotten. This is no news to Nigerians and the authorities themselves and the reaction to findings of investigative journalists as well as advocates of reforms must never be belligerent. The Nigeria Correctional Service must get this! #KeepFisayoSafe. “They (CG especially) should learn from previous advocacies and take dressing like @PoliceNG and @nigimmigration when @SIAF_NG exposed their running issues within. This is not the time to venture further into criminality by seeking to incriminate a whistleblower. #KeepFisayoSafe “Any attempt to incriminate, intimidate, harass, abduct or engage in any act of persecution of @fisayosoyombo will pitch the Nigeria Correctional Service against the entire Nation and we will all respond effectively and adequately. Nigeria belongs to all of us & you must comply. “The Nigerian Correctional Service is a service to the people and MUST be guided in their response to feedback from the public. Exposing organized crime within the system must not be seen as an attack on anyone begging for reprisal but a path to healing. #KeepFisayoSafe “The ‘Honorable’ Minister of Interior @raufaregbesola should call the leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service to order in this regard. The public perception of all uniformed officers in Nigeria is negative already and this must not be made worse. #KeepFisayoSafe.” President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has engaged in gagging the press and repressing the freedom of the media in Nigeria. A report by the Amnesty International revealed that at least 19 journalists and media practitioners have been attacked, brutalized and/or arrested in Nigeria between January and September 2019. Reporters Without Borders, an organisation that conducts advocacy for freedom of information and press freedom, ranks Nigeria 120 out of 180 in its 2019 Data of Press Freedom ranking. http://saharareporters.com/2019/10/22/breaking-im-hiding-says-nigerian-journalist-soyombo-security-agents-hunt-him |
The Nigerian Police Force, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command says it has arrested the main suspect behind the first-of-its-kind kidnap incident involving an exchange of $15,000 worth of bitcoins as ransom payment. However, PRNigeria investigation revealed that this is coming as security sources are beginning to point accusing fingers on the victim’s family members, domestic staff and other relatives who are believed to be deeply involved in these kidnapping incidences. Recall that a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain, Umar Ardo, was in September 2019 forced to pay $15,000 in bitcoins to get his daughter, Ms Aisha Umar, freed by kidnappers. During his weekly security updates at the weekend, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, revealed that the suspect, one Sa’adu Abubakari, who is currently in the Police custody, has made a useful confession in connection with the new trend in kidnapping cases. Mr Ciroma disclosed that the Anti-Kidnapping Squad had nabbed 13 members of kidnapping syndicate and other dangerous criminals. “Sequel to the ongoing investigation into a reported kidnap incident at Asokoro on 14th September 2019, Police detectives from the Command, Anti-Kidnapping Squad, have arrested one Saadu Abubakari ‘m’ 23 years in connection with the incident. “The suspect was arrested around Apo after the phone number used for the criminal act was traced to him. “The Command is making concerted effort to arrest other persons involved in the criminal act,” Mr Ciroma disclosed. According to Mr Ciroma, after the payment of the ransom in bitcoins, and the suspect release, the police engaged its intelligent operatives who swung into action. Subsequently, Mr Ciroma said, the suspect was trailed and finally tracked down in Apo where he was arrested. Police sources informed PRNigeria that Mr Abubakari, who is a commercial motorcycle rider (Okada), admitted to owning the SIM card which was registered in February 2018. He, however, sold it to another suspect (now at large) who bought it from him for N1000. Mr Abubakari who hails from Kano said he was tricked by a certain female suspect who acted to have lost her way, contacts and desperate for a new SIM card to make calls. “The female suspect, who spoke in Hausa language, negotiated to buy his SIM card for N1000 with which the kidnap for ransom deal was made,” Mr Abubakari was said to have confessed. Further findings also revealed that Mr Abubakari is barely literate and could only speak in Hausa. “He claimed to have never stolen before. He said doesn’t know anything about bitcoin or understand how it works. He doesn’t even have a bank account or ATM card,” a security source told PRNigeria. Police source said that while the crack team of intelligence and investigative officers were on the verge of unravelling the case, some challenges set in. According to the source, this kidnap incidence is unique in the sense that it “sets a precedence in the kidnapping cases because of the bitcoin”. An intelligent officer noted that the sophistication of the technology involved has opened a new chapter challenging their investigative skills. According to him, while the Police were monitoring the situation, so far more than $9000 had been withdrawn from the bitcoin. The officer, however, assured that the operatives were on the verge of overcoming the obstacles posed by tracking the bitcoins and would soon nab the culprits. “We now know that we need a lot of tools, collaborations and more training. We have almost wrapped up this case but there are still gaps and challenges in tracking the bitcoins. “The challenges are not only the technical nature of the transactions but the technological tools needed to crack it,” the officer said. https://dailynigerian.com/police-arrest-suspected-kidnapper-who-collected-15000-ransom-in-bitcoins/

Manchester United legend Evra has revealed how Ronaldo stated he needed to win "at least five" in the immediate aftermath of his win. Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Evra was asked if he was surprised by the career Ronaldo has had. "I'm not," he declared. "I remember when we were talking with Cristiano when he won his first Ballon d'Or, he talked to me and said 'I have to win at least five', and that's what he did, so I'm not surprised. "Ronaldo is the most professional player I ever played with. He was the one that if we had training at 10, he would be there at 8. "He was the last to leave the training ground, practicing his skill. "That's why, when we compare him to Messi, I always choose Cristiano and people say it's just because he's my friend. "I just think Messi, it's just a gift, it's talent. God said, 'go on, go and play with those kids'. "But Cristiano worked so hard. He's a machine. "He doesn't want to lose anything. He even wants to be the most beautiful guy, he wants to be the one that is dressing the best. He also recalled an amusing tale which highlighted Ronaldo's competitiveness and drive. "I tell this story about the table tennis table and Rio Ferdinand," he said. "They played on this table tennis table, and Rio Ferdinand beat Cristiano. "Everyone was laughing, so two weeks later, Cristiano brought a table tennis table and said 'I will get my revenge'. "Everyone said, 'come on, Cristiano, don't embarrass yourself, you lost last time', but he practiced, he played and he beat Rio Ferdinand." https://m.allfootballapp.com/news/Headline/Evra-Ronaldo-made-Ballon-dOr-vow-after-first-winning-prestigious-award/1936703 Lalasticlala mynd44 Dominique fynestboi MissyB3 Seun
