Career / Does Your Income Seem Insufficient? Here’s How You Can Boost It by RegalLady: 12:05pm On Mar 02, 2018

Someone once said, “employees work just enough not to get fired and employers pay just enough so workers don’t quit.” This statement is true in many ways. Many employees in Nigeria tend to only increase the pay of their staff when they get the hint that they want to leave or when they receive their resignation letter.

The issue of remuneration is getting worrisome as employees hardly salaries they deserve. Worse still, the salaries often do not arrive on time in many instances. Consequently, many Nigerians are forced to look for green pastures overseas.

To understand how bad the issue of salaries are in the country, here are some quick facts.

A glance at facts
In December 2017, the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released figures about unemployment rate in Nigeria which currently stands at 18 million. The figure sums up the population of those who are actually unemployed and those that are underemployed. Going by trend in previous stats, it’s easy to see that unemployment has been growing worse for the last 2 years.

The population of those employed is estimated to be 69 million. If we go by the general belief that our population as a nation is 180 million, one can safely say that just 1 in every 4 Nigerians is fully employed. The rest of the workforce has to deal with being misfits at their work place or settle with earning far lower than what their industry offers globally.

Now it’s apparent to know why there is restlessness on the part of the youths in the country. Frustration has made many delve into shady activities on the cyberspace while others engage in crime that often lead to loss of lives and properties. They may not have planned doing such but pent up frustration has a history of remaking good people.

The blunt truth is that the available jobs are unavailable to go round.

Nigerian minimum wage in comparison with other countries around the world
While the Nigerian minimum wage remains transfixed at N19, 800 despite calls for an upward review by the Nigerian Labour Congress, every other thing has increased. The current wage bill was approved when inflation was at single digit and has since not reflected the rise in the inflation rate to double digit.

For a quick comparison, here’s a list of 10 minimum wage rates across the world.
1. Nigeria - $35 - (N18, 000)
2. Algeria - $135 - (N83, 000)
3. Belgium – $1, 738 - (N810, 000)
4. Cameroun – 36, 270CFA - (38,000)
5. Chad - $120 - (N60,000)
6. Denmark - $1, 820 - (N900, 000)
7. Libya – $430 - (N190, 000)
8. Cote Di’voire – 36, 607CFA
9. Spain - $760 - (N300,000)
10. Luxemburg - $2,500 - (1.1m)

The above was a comparison complied in the first quarter of 2017. Evidently, even many African countries have higher minimum wage than Nigeria which is bad for a country that boasts of itself as the giant of Africa.

A look at one more report
A research report was carried out last year by Lagos-based online platform, Stutern, to determine how much Nigerian graduates earn. After its research, Stutern released surprising (or not too surprising) statistics about the salary distribution of employed graduates. The research made use of data available from 2010-2016. Here’s the statistics they published.

1. 25 percent of employed graduates earn less than N20, 000 monthly.
2. 52 percent of employed graduates earn N20,000 to N50, 000 monthly
3. 15 percent of employed graduates earn N50,000 to N100,000 monthly
4. 6 percent of employed graduates earn N100, 000 to N150, 000 monthly.
5. And only about 2 percent earn above N150, 000.

Would the whole salary structure change in Nigeria soon?
This is one question that many people would wish to answer with a “yes.” However, it may not be so any time soon as the pattern in the statistics released by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have indicated.

How then can you increase your monthly income?
The above presentation of facts was necessary so you can wake up (if you have been sleeping) to the current reality on ground.
While there’s no guarantee that there would be rapid increment in how much you take home monthly, you actually have the power to increase your income. Quite a number of Nigerians have discovered this fact and have come to terms with it. Rather than sit and lament lament and wish something could change, they took a different approach to earning by working online.

Working online is a tested and trusted way of earning income online. It can serve as an alternative source of income or even your main source of income (if you want it to and work towards it.) You can still work online even if you have your regular job.

While a lot of people have been confused about how to begin, the two reliable ways in which Nigerians have been earning by working...

Business / How To Rake In Higher Income On Fiverr In 2018 by RegalLady: 3:41pm On Feb 28, 2018

2017 was a great year for many Fiverr users and one would naturally expect things to be the same in 2018. However, this is may not be the case. For instance, Fiverr has been come out quite tougher than many people expected this year and are doing restructuring here and there. That doesn’t mean we should all pack our bags and move out of the marketplace.

On the flip side, there are people who also could not get enough sales on their gigs and are hoping that things would improve as the year progresses.

Whatever side of the divide you fall, this article should either tell you what to do improve sales or help you get new ideas towards advancing your business. So, if you’re ready, let’s dive into it.

A. Offer new gigs
If you were not earning enough in 2017, you should probably get new skills and offer other services. The foremost thing about Fiverr is digital skills. If you have it, you can somehow be helped. But if you don’t have it, no one can really help you.
If you want a big break in your revenue, find skills that are not so common. The more common a skill is and the more a buyer understands what needs to be done about the job, the more likely it is that you will keep getting low income. Here are some skills you can learn this year:
• White board animation
• Speed drawing
• Logo designing
• Business card designing
• Infographics
• Create vector
• QR code generator
• SEO
• Traffic Generation
• Keyword analysis
• Social media marketing
• Email marketing
• Content marketing
• Wordpress and Plugins installation
• Theme Customization
• Speed optimization etc

B. Recreate your gigs
If your gig is not performing as you expect, don’t hesitate to recreate your gig. A good service with a badly crafted gig would still not generate the desired income. So here are some quick tips you can apply:

• Always use high quality pictures that are attractive. Quit using pictures with poor resolution you lifted somewhere online. Make sure the picture represents the image you’re trying to project to buyers. If you don’t have one for your gig, contract a graphics designer to make one for you.

• Videos are important in gig creation. Sellers with videos typically attract more buyers than those without it. You can create videos online by using sites like studio.stupeflix.com or animatron.com. Alternatively, you can also pay for it on Fiverr. Don’t forget to always add “Exclusively on Fiverr” written anywhere in the video, especially at the end.

• Craft a gig description that will make buyers troop in. You can divide your gig description into 4 categories: what the buyer will get for $5, what bonuses you’re offering for free, why the buyer should choose you and a strong call to action. These are the essence of what makes a killer gig description.

• Always check out what other top sellers have as their gig description before you write yours. You should check out maybe 5 of them and then sum it all together to create yours. Take notice of their keywords, and the title of their ranked keywords. Except you want some trouble, do not copy and paste their gig description and title.

C. Market your Fiverr gig
While your gig on Fiverr should get some traffic if you make use of ranking tips to optimize it and if you get good reviews, traffic outside Fiverr is also important. Fiverr is a business; so stop waiting for buyers to troop in. If they don’t come in as you want, go look for them where they are.
• Take advantage of Facebook groups. You can create an alternate account of Facebook if you so desire. Then join as many groups as you can up to 100 if possible. If you advertise your gig regularly in the groups, you can expect some of the members to check out your gig on Fiverr. If you’ve done your work well already, they may order your services and become repeat customers.

• Promote your gig on Quora. Quora has lots of monthly visitors who are not even members courtesy traffic from search engines. Promote your gig by actively contributing to the questions asked. Ensure that your answers are intelligent and well structured. At the end of your answers, insert a link back to your gig on Fiverr. This is will help readers see you as competent and consequently boost your sales.

• Become a member of several online Forums. There are lots of people there who have questions in the discussion section. Find the ones where you have sufficient knowledge and help provide answers to their questions. If they’re complaining about something related to your gig, give some tips and insert the link back to your gig. If your answers are helpful, they will most likely click on your link. Example of such popular forums are....

Business / 5 Digital Businesses That Fetched Nairalanders The Most Money In 2017 by RegalLady: 6:06pm On Feb 27, 2018

The year 2017 was no doubt a memorable year for many nairalanders.

There were many success stories and turnaround of fortunes of ordinary Nigerians via the information they got and applied. Quite a handful of such stories made it to the front page. The larger part of the success stories were either recounted in threads or sent to people who shared the opportunities they grasp.

Take a look at two of such stories below that made it to the front page in the past and read through their enviable stories.

This nairalander bought her first car from freelancing and has since moved on to achieve great things for herself. Read her story here: www.nairaland.com/2479987/story-how-bought-car-income

This other nairalander built himself a new home and also bought his first car from an online business! Read his story here: www.nairaland.com/3224561/how-bought-car-built-house

The most recent testimonial came from this nairalander who achieved financial freedom for himself via mini-importation. Read his inspiring story here: www.nairaland.com/4276191/nairalanders-advice-helped-physically-challenged

You will remember that I emphasized these businesses a lot last year. And, if there’s one thing you can guess, it’s that, for every single nairalander who share his/her success story, there are at least 10 others who have equally become successful.

These people all got valuable knowledge about the opportunity to earn. However, that’s only one side of the coin. The other side is that they applied what they learned and stayed with it till it grew. The rule of the thumb on this subject is that for every single nairalander who shares a success story, there are at least 10 others who also became successful.

Now that you’re convinced that digital businesses are viable, let’s take a brief look at the businesses that will be successful in 2018.

1. Mini-importation
Mini importation has been a viable source of passive income for many years now. It has successfully transformed many job seekers into entrepreneurs. The good side of this option is that it fits perfectly for a side hustle idea. There’s more demand for foreign products in Nigeria. Examples of such products are bags, jewelries, phones, laptops etc. In addition, it is stress free as you can import the products from the comfort of your bedroom, provided you have an internet connection.

2. Blogging
While a lot of people will often criticize those who go into blogging for the sake of money, we think the opinion is lame. Blogging is now a business. As common with all businesses, profit is key. Your idea of profit may vary but it will often share a common denominator which is to earn money. Besides, blogging requires all the qualities needed to run a typical business and if you do your home work well, you should soon start earning by monetizing your blog.

3. Freelancing
This list cannot be complete without freelancing. Many nairalanders are into freelancing and are making it big time! What is the secret of succeeding in freelancing? You need to have a skill. But to earn money online in 2018, you need to learn new skills aside writing because the supply is greater than demand, thereby making competition difficult. Once you have skills that are in demand, you will start earning steady income online. If you don’t have any idea about skills that are most lucrative, you need to watch out for my post where I will make a detailed list about them.

4. Cryptocurrency
Many cryptocurrency enthusiasts liken the opportunity to blood money. You can make insane profit returns from your investment because the market is free from manipulations that is common with fiat money. However, what makes cryptocurrency profitable also makes it risky. All cryptocurrencies will not always be on green. Smart investors now diversify their portfolio such that if a coin is failing, another crypto investment is covering up for the loss. That way, they continually make profit or cut down their losses.

Career / Do You Want Fantastic Achievements This Year? Stop Doing These Things by RegalLady: 11:31am On Feb 26, 2018

As we approach the new month that marks the first quarter of the year, it important that you review how you’ve fared in the first two months of the year. Nigeria Online Business has put together a few tips on things you should to stop doing this year if you really want a fabulous year. We hope you learn (or you’re reminded) of these things.

Stop procrastinating
Do you remember how you were full of hopes as 2017 drew to a close and 2018 came into view? What about all the plans you had for the New Year and how you were excited about the possibilities that lie ahead of you?

The much talked about 2018 is here and it’s already moving swiftly. In a matter of days, one-sixth of the year would be gone. Stop pushing your dreams into the future. What is it that you have planned to achieve? Remind yourself that you need to start working towards them. Do you want to apply for a professional course? Are you planning to start a new business or learn new skills? There’s no better time to begin than now. Just quit procrastinating already!

Stop complaining about your life

Let’s face it: life is full of problems. We all have problems; they may just be in different phases and sizes. Complaining is like a natural programming of, we, Nigerians as we tend to complain about everything. We believe that life has been unfair to us and therefore hold it as our right to vent.

Nobody is against you venting your frustrations but the burning question is: “when you’re done complaining, does anything change?” Your answer is a good one.

Ponder on this for a second: if you can change something about your life, why complain about it? On the other hand, if you can’t change something about your life, why complain about it? You should really channel the energy you use in complaining into something more productive. Complaining doesn’t automatically result in a change in experience.

Stop expecting people to help

You’re on your own; stop expecting someone to share the responsibility for your life. People are content with carrying the load of their responsibilities and don’t need to add your luggage to theirs.

You must remember that you’re absolutely responsible for your life. If it would be or not; it’s entirely up to you. That family member that you think has the power to make you smile; that long time friend you believe should remember your friendship now that fortune has smiled on him; forget them both and move on.

As a poet once said which former American President re-echoed in his speech, “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for and there’s no one else coming.” Face your life and hustle till you succeed. Nothing feels better than a success well deserved.

Stop wasting your time on social media

We spend too much time on the social media. It has effectively created a way not just to be a part of our day but also to become an addiction.

In a world where there are many social media platforms, it’s easy to get carried away and waste so much time on them. The average individual is on at least three social media platforms and two instant messaging platforms. If that individual spends one hour each on these platforms, that would equal 5 productive hours gulped down by his favourite platforms.

Those 5 hours can fetch you extra income if you decided to learn a new business model. It can help you get a better job if you spent it hunting. It can help you become a better person if you spent it acquiring new skills. It can help you expand your influence if you spent it forming new relationships. Stop wasting so much time on the social media.

Stop missing opportunities

In as much as we often crave for opportunities, the sad thing is that we often miss them.

Missing an opportunity does not only mean refusal to act; it also means...

Business / Can Nigerians Really Make Millions Of Naira As Amazon Affiliates? by RegalLady: 5:30pm On Feb 25, 2018

Who doesn’t know Amazon in today’s world?

Amazon has established itself as the foremost eCommerce site in the world. You can buy almost anything you want on Amazon. This is in line with their vision statement which is “…to be earth’s most customer-centric company to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything they might want.”

Now, you be the judge, is Amazon working hard towards that goal?

As you’d typically expect of an eCommerce site, there are sellers and there are buyers. Amazon sells no good of its own.

While some people make money on Amazon selling their own products, others earn by buying and reselling the same products on Amazon. That may sound unbelievable but it’s true and has always been happening.

There are several ways to earn on Amazon. But before we proceed, let’s establish a vital point.

How lucrative is the opportunity to earn on Amazon?

Well, you may read that Amazon is very lucrative and yet it sounds empty because you need proofs. Well, here are 5 proofs you can check out.

1. Because of its global coverage, Amazon makes hundreds of billions of dollars every year. Their profit is always massive and they declare their revenue every quarter. For example, for the first quarter of the year 2017, Amazon announced an estimate revenue of $35 billion. That’s just first quarter alone! How else did you think Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, became the number 1 billionaire in the world?

2. As of 2015, there were over 304 million active accounts on Amazon. Yes, you’re reading that right! This means that hundreds of millions of people on Amazon are spending one way or the other on Amazon to buy things.

3. According to a 2015 study by BloomReach, nearly half of all global online shoppers go to Amazon to buy the products they need. The actual percentage is 44 percent but when you consider Amazon’s growth in the last three years, it should be more than half now.

4. Amazon made more than one-third of global online sales on Black Friday in 2015. That’s staggering? Yes, we know. But again, don’t forget these statistics are not recent, so thing have obviously improved.

5. Over 2 billion products are sold in Amazon marketplaces. This is not the number of sales it makes on each product but the number of products available for sale alone. 2 billion!

So if you are still in doubt if making money on Amazon can be lucrative for you to earn, you should probably argue with these facts.

Why Amazon associates is the best program you can join today

The category of Amazon earners this article will discuss is the Amazon associates. Now, you may have heard and attempted various programs in making money from eCommerce websites. However, Amazon has many advantages over them.

One of the strongest edges Amazon offers its associates is that of the URL tracking. For instance, if you were to recommend products to buyers on Nigeria online stores, you’d be given a tracking URL through which they can monitor the sales that come through you.

The problem is that the tracking link works only if they buy the products immediately without leaving that page. If they leave that page to search for similar products to buy or come back after some time to search and buy the same product, you won’t earn a dime.

However, with Amazon, it’s a different ball game. Whenever you recommend a product to someone and they visit the website through your link, even if they don’t make any purchases immediately, Amazon ties that person to your efforts. You will still earn your commission provided the person comes back to make the purchase within three months. That’s a 90-day extension period!

In addition to this, let’s say you promoted a jean trouser and the customer ends up buying a shirt or bought a similar product, let’s say a chinos trouser, you will still earn your commission.

Commissions on sales of Amazon products range from 4-8.5%, depending on the category and sales that generated by your efforts.

Five Tricks You Must Do If You Want To Be Successful In Amazon Affiliate Program as a Nigerian

These are not tricks per se; they’re secrets the few Nigerians that really earn on Amazon use. I’m listing only 5 because of space.

1. You Must Consider Reviews.

Before promoting any Amazon product, you must check the number of reviews and if the reviews are negative or favourable. This is so because promoting a product with much negative feedback will alter your reputation and also lead to refunds.

2. Review the Product You Are Promoting

After considering what people say about a particular product, you also need to make a detailed research about the product, read different reviews about it, do a more extensive review and subsequently publish the review on your blog. Or alternatively you can obtain the product and test it out.

The essence of making a review on your blog is that most people today carry out a little research on a product before buying. So provide them with the information they need to know and since they are already in buying mood, you will most likely make a sale.

Business / Things To Consider Before You Choose An Online Business Model by RegalLady: 7:27pm On Feb 22, 2018

The first thing many people do when presented with business opportunities to make a choice is to make their decision based on how much income it rakes in. No doubt, profitability is an important factor in deciding the type of business to run. However, there are other factors that are just as important as profitability and can play a huge role in your long term success in the business.

For instance, you may choose a business that’s very profitable but is already saturated. Stiff competition isn’t often good for new businesses except if they’re bringing an innovation to the game. A business may also be profitable but it is about to be phased out by another model which would substitute it, case in study, petrol cars and electric cars.

Below are the top factors we advise those who want to choose any type of digital business model to check before stepping into one.

1. Ability/Hobby check
The foremost thing to check is how much you like doing that kind of business model. Do you enjoy doing it? You may need to sit on a job for hours at a stretch sometimes; so is it something you can do without having to worry much? There may be many businesses available for you to choose from but you will do yourself a favour by sticking to the one you enjoy doing.

2. Profitability check

This factor obviously doesn’t need lots of explanation. You want to pick a business that has the ability to yield profit that’s commensurate with the level of time and energy you invest in the business. If it drains your strength and does very little to fatten your account in return, you probably shouldn’t pick it.

3. Crowdedness check

It is important to always check to see how popular such a business opportunity is. The more popular it is, the less likely it is that you will be able to make more profit, except you are extremely gifted at what you do. It is simple business sense. Okay, let’s assume you own a shop and you sell to 1000 customers every month. If three new competitors enter the market, guess where their customers will come from? Most likely from yours! In the end, you may be left with maybe 400 customers while they split the rest between themselves.

4. Time check

Except you have plenty of time on your hands, the type of online business that would suit you should be one that’s not time consuming. There are online businesses that require your availability almost all throughout the day. But there are also businesses that you engage in that requires just two hours from you each day. And the hours you select in the course of your day is entirely up to you. In other words, any time of the day will do.

5. Effort check

You have to ensure that the profit matches the efforts that you invest in the business. If you invest plenty of time only to have meagre earnings, then you are simply under a form of slavery. If the business requires you to work more, then it should pay more. Don’t just hop into any business only to see that you do not get value for the efforts you put into it.

6. Automating Check

Can the business run without your attention for a couple of days? Businesses that need your attention like a baby may not really be helpful for you, except if you’ve found a way around it. If your absence or failure to attend to it for one day can be very damaging to your business, it means you...

Business / 5 Horrible Advice You Should Never Accept About Money by RegalLady: 10:13am On Feb 22, 2018

When it comes to matters requiring an advice, almost everybody becomes a counsellor. Opinions are so cheap that everybody has one. The remarkable thing is that you don’t even need to solicit for advice; people will always give it to you without your request, free of charge.

And when too many people advise you, it can spell trouble because 80% of what people say are things they are not practicing and consequently have no chance of working. In more grave terms, some of the advice that people give are potent poisons that are capable of ruining the receiver. This is why it is an act of wisdom to regularly check if you have received wrong counsel and do a detoxification of your mind.

Since money is obviously the most important goal of all businesses, Nigeria Online Business wants to share 5 common horrible advices about money you should look out for and reject.

1. Comparison advice

This kind of advice is the type that takes its merit from those around you. The value of the advice originates from what others are doing. In other words, it sets others as a standard for yourself and tells you all is fine since someone is in the same predicament as you are. It tries to give you comfort by telling you that you are not alone in the financial problems you’re facing. So, this advice will okay it that it is fine if you are broke since Mister A is broke.

You need to learn to cancel such thoughts and avoid such counsels. Your greatest competition must be yourself and not someone else. You must seek to be better than how you were yesterday and not another person. No two lives are the same and no two people get the same opportunity in life even if they share the same background and age. It is therefore wrong to judge two people using the same parameters.

2. Retirement Advice

Many people work hard towards enrolling in a pension scheme with the hope that they would be able to save money they can spend in their old age. The idea of pension is the best but it is not the most ideal in Nigeria, especially if you’re a civil servant. We’ve all heard various pension stories.

A renowned financial analyst in the US once argued that it’s unreasonable for people to save 10% of their income monthly for about 30 years and expect to live on it full-time for the next 20-25 years.

While you should have savings stacked up for your retirement, you must also realize that your best retirement plan is in your hands. It’s best to have several streams of passive income that brings you money without raising a finger.

3. Government-Dependence Advice

Many of today’s old folks still hum this statement. They believed it and held on to it that the government owes them. They believe the government is the reason they are poor as though it is not under the same government that others are making it. The government may be a problem to the nation but it not personally your problem. So many people have succeeded without the government. So, what’s your excuse?

Smart people do not depend on the government, but take advantage of any profitable policy the government rolls out. The geniuses even look for the good in a bad policy and exploit it. Take control of your life. Plan it independent of the government and work towards it. Make a resolution that you will succeed, with or without the government. It may not be easy at first, but it will eventually be worth it.

4. Money-Demonizing Advice

Money has been demonized in some quarters. It has been talked down as being overhyped. Those who often say money is not everything are those that do not have it. Statements like, “money cannot buy happiness”, “vanity upon vanity is vanity” and other money demonizing statements keeps flying around.

If money cannot buy happiness, well, neither can poverty. If money cannot buy you sleep, neither can poverty. There is no sense in the fact that money is being talked down. Any advice that tries to downplay the relevance of money is terrible. Money is important. It is a big deal. It is only evil when anyone tries to get it illegally.

5. Time advice

Timing is a very important factor in life. The idea of timing should be to recognize when it is most suitable to take an action. But many counsels these days emphasize that a future time is coming for everything: “There is still time”. It is one of those ways of deliberately excusing one’s self from having to tackle the problems and opportunities that come to one’s path.

The simple truth is, there may not be a better time in future to make money than now. It is not that it would be impossible; it is that may be difficult. The Chinese proverb says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” Now is the time to create the all-important passive income.

Business / Tired Of Being Broke? See An Opportunity Many Nigerians Have Overlooked by RegalLady: 2:13pm On Feb 21, 2018

While some Nigerians are broke, truckloads of money flow annually into the account of other Nigerians.

According to a 2016 study conducted by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, the inflow of money into Nigeria stood at $19 billion dollars. This amounts to trillions of naira.

It will interest you to know that this figure is not talking about financial investments in the country or monetary aid. Far from it, this cash flow is money remitted by Nigerians abroad as they study reveals.

However, it doesn’t take any thinking person to realize that’s not the complete the story. It’s just not realistic enough.

So what’s the untold story? The untold story is that many Nigerians are receiving payments weekly and monthly from abroad for their efforts. Since the idea of working online is not popular in our local media, they lumped it together to call it payments from Nigerians in the Diaspora.

Many Nigerians are not aware that not everyone that stays indoors almost all day are not jobless. The idea that anyone who works online is engaged in fraud is an archaic mentality that should be discarded. Many Nigerians are working legitimately online and are hitting gold.

While some people complain of the exchange rate and how disastrous it is, this category of people are appreciating God because it’s fetching them more money. Classic case of “another man’s food is another man’s poison.” While many Nigerians are debating whether Nigeria is out of recession or whether it’s recession that has refused to leave Nigerians, these few Nigerians are focused on getting more of the Benjamins.

Are you tired of being broke? Let me show you a reliable way of earning online that I’ve taught other Nigerians to earn. This business model is not crowded, so you can easily make it.

The opportunity at a glance

As at July 2017, there were over 91 million active Nigerian internet users. If we adopt the popular assumption that we are now a population of over 180 million people as a nation, it means over 50 percent of Nigerians are now online.

Out of this category of Nigerians who are online, over 32 million Nigerians have at one time shopped online, according to Ventures Africa. This makes Nigeria the biggest e-commerce industry on the continent. However, since the study was conducted about two years ago, it’s safe to say we probably have more 40 million Nigerians who have shopped online.

You can also factor in the recent upsurge in the number of Nigerians that now shop online on foreign e-commerce websites to purchase their clothes, bags, phones and other products.

You may be wondering why these facts are necessary. If you can’t spot the opportunity yet, you would get it shortly. Just read on.

The problem with shopping online

Shopping online is a problem for many Nigerians and other people across the world. The problem is two pronged. First, people want to know that the online seller is not a fraudster. This is the foremost concern of many Nigerians.

Second, people want to trust the quality and reliability of the product they want to buy. In a world that offers alternatives, deciding which product to buy is a big ordeal. People want real value for money.

Many times, it’s easy for the first problem to be solved courtesy the escrow services that most of these e-commerce sites offer and the reviews on the seller’s page. However, the second problem is not so easy to solve.

Since people want to get quality products that will serve them for long, they rely on the recommendations of others on which particular product and brand is good for them. Have you ever asked for people’s opinion before you made a purchase online? Yea, that’s the problem right there!

The opportunity

Many people will not hesitate to offer guidance and necessary information to prospective buyers based on their knowledge or experience. However, what if you could help people make the right purchases and also earn from it?

Companies and stores (home and abroad) must attract buyers so they can make profit and stay afloat in business. For this reason, they need people who will simply recommend their products to people and earn from commission from sales.

This puts you in the middle position since you can...

Business / Digital Side Hustles That Can Fetch You Insane Income by RegalLady: 1:29am On Feb 21, 2018
No matter how much you may earn; it is never enough. This explains why even billionaires still go to work every day and make huge investments despite the fact that their financial life is secured. In this article, you will discover digital side hustles than can make your bank account swell id you adopt and work on any.

1. Blogging

While a lot of people will often criticize those who go into blogging for the sake of money, we think the opinion is lame. First of all, if you treat blogging as a hobby, it means you give it the little attention and time you can spare. Don’t expect to have the same results as someone who is dedicated to it.

Second, blogging in itself has become a business. As common with all businesses, profit is key. Your idea of profit may vary but it will often share a common denominator which is to earn money.

Can you earn via blogging? An emphatic yes! There are quite a number of things you need to know which cannot be adequately explained in this article. You can, however, find helpful information in the other blog posts or materials needed online.

If you want to invest in cryptocurrencies, you must study how it works and be abreast of new coins that are coming to the market. As usual, always study before you invest.

3. Kindle Direct Publishing

What is it that makes publishing a book online a great side hustle? It’s the fact that once you work hard at it the first time, you don’t have to rework the book anymore. It’s a kind of hustle where you receive payment again and again for efforts you did once and for all.

Kindle Direct Publishing is the publishing arm of Amazon where anyone can write and sell their books provided it is plagiarism free. There’ also Create Space which can publish your hard copy books and sell in foreign countries. It soars your potential of earning more.
'
Once again, it’s important to understand a business properly. So if you like this kind of business, first devote some of your time to getting all the information you need to succeed at it.

4. Domain Flipping

To begin with, what is flipping? It means to buy something at a lower price and selling it at a higher price. With this definition, it is easy to understand that domain flipping is all about buying domain names to sell at a profit.

A domain name is an address on the internet that directs someone to a website. The most popular marketplace for domain flipping is Flippa. Thousands of buyers and sellers of domain names use the website every day. That is a good place to begin your domain flipping hustle
You must remember not to buy long domain names. The shorter the domain name, the higher your chances of selling. Also look out for domain names that can be a brand. If you love this idea of passive income, you should look up more information on the net.

5. Information marketing

Information marketing is all about gathering information, sifting out what is irrelevant and organizing what’s relevant to offer at a price to those who need the information.

Information marketing has a wide variety of niches. Take for instance the much anticipated JAMB among secondary school leavers is an avenue for information marketers to earn. How? They package Jamb software which is aimed at helping students by providing them with....

Business / 7 Figures In One Year: A Nairalander’s Success Tips by RegalLady: 11:44am On Feb 20, 2018

I joined Fiverr in September 2015 and I have since earned more than 6 million naira from the platform.

I always thought making money online was a joke and that people were wasting their time on the platform. My mindset was further hardened when I learnt that every delivery equals $5 on the marketplace. A paltry $5!

All this while, my friend would quietly sneak in every now and then to reply messages on Fiverr. It was often irritating to me considering the fact that he did this every time we were together. But then, there are some things you can overlook for the sake of friendship. So I did.

However, I had an epiphany when it was time for my fiancée to go to school and there was insufficient money. I asked my friend to teach her so she could start earning, at least to take care of her needs in school without calling home frequently.

He honoured my request and taught her. Our first shock came after the first month when she earned $450. When you convert that to naira at that time, it was much more than I expected. It was a big deal. That was what finally planted an obsession within me to earn on Fiverr.

Fast forward to 2017, I was already earning an average income of $2,000 monthly on Fiverr. The lowest I earn in a bad month is around $1,000 which is still a good sum of money in Nigeria. I have since quitted my job and concentrated on Fiverr. I now earn far bigger than what many working class people earn.

Here are my 5 success tips you can learn from. I will try to make everything brief for the sake of space.

1. More Money is made in upsell

Let me explain what upsell is. When you buy a product on an online store, you will observe that they’d show you related products other people bought after buying the first. They know you’re still interested in buying and want to make as much money from you as possible.

Every service you offer on Fiverr has other related services. When you offer the related services, the clients would likely buy it all from you rather than go look for another person to buy from. If they don’t, you can always convince them.

The idea is that rather than make $5 from a buyer, you can make up to $20 0r more through upsell.

2. Don’t rely on Fiverr traffic

Fiverr is one of the largest marketplaces in the world. Consequently, they attract huge traffic from buyers from across the globe.
However, the problem is that the millions of traffic that Fiverr generates is not meant for you alone. It is shared among other sellers who go into thousands (or hundreds of thousands.) So while Fiverr has huge traffic, it doesn’t necessarily translate to the same for you.

The best thing is for you to optimize your gig for Fiverr changes but also get traffic from outside Fiverr. You can do this by using social media platforms, popular forums or even use paid ads to get more targeted traffic.

37% of my Fiverr revenue comes from buyers who saw my gig outside Fiverr. One advantage of this is that even if Fiverr changes their traffic algorithm, you can be assured that it doesn’t affect you too much.

3. Bidding early matters a lot

On Fiverr, I’m not just a seller; I also buy services I need from time to time. This affords me the opportunity to see both sides of the coin.
When I create buyers’ requests, I often receive several biddings up to 40, or even 50 at times. That’s too much for the average buyer who just wants to quickly get his/her need met. Personally, I scroll and view just the first 10 requests and make my choice.

Using my experience as a guide, it means you have to bid early to increase your chances of getting jobs. Always strive to appear in the first ten on the bidding page. In addition, always write customized bid that addresses the need of the buyer so it would stand out.

4. Your gig package is meant to hoodwink the seller to pay more

Fiverr introduced gig packages about two years ago and that was one of the best updates for many sellers (I inclusive.)

The gig packages allow you charge clients more for the services you offer. The trick is to get the buyer to pay you for more quality while hoping to get a lesser amount. Most clients always judge that the higher a gig cost, the more quality the seller is offering. With this, some buyers would happily part with $20 for a 1,000 article

Jobs/Vacancies / Opinion: Why Unemployment Is A Choice by RegalLady: 1:37am On Feb 20, 2018

Unemployment is a critical problem that never fails to grab the headlines. And it rightly should considering that youths are full of strength that is left untapped. It gets worse when people who acquired formal education through stress and determination cannot find paid jobs.

However, there is a flawed mentality which has been ingrained in the minds of Nigerians from childhood. It is that all we needed do was study and expect jobs as a reward for tertiary education. In fact songs were composed back in the days to drive home this point.

Nevertheless, that mentality was factual and the songs were no lies. Considering the period the songs were popular, one would easily realize that formal education was rare and many families struggled to have at least a child sent to school up to university. And there were indeed jobs waiting for those who were educated.

However, the music has long changed but many people are still dancing the old steps. Today, there are more people in school than the jobs available. This year’s JAMB has over one million students who registered for it. Meanwhile, new graduates will be released into the labour market to compete with those who have stayed at home for 1, 3 or more years at home with no good job.

Three foremost problems with some of today’s graduates

Everyone who has had the opportunity to talk with some unemployed graduates with no regular source of income can easily spot 3 problems that are common to almost all graduates. This is not to slight unemployed graduates. No, not at all.

1. Blame game

If you would be sincere with yourself, you know this point is factual. Most unemployed graduates blame the government for not providing jobs. They blame politicians for looting monies that could have been out to better use. They blame the public universities for sub-standard education and HR managers for frustrating them. The blame may be valid but the question is, “what does it change?”

2. Pride

Unemployed graduates have high regard for their certificates and their educational background. This makes it difficult for them to conceive the thought of learning new hand craft or new skills because they are not blue collar jobs and don’t involve sitting in an office. Hardly do they realize that hundreds of thousands unemployed people have the same certificate.

3. Shiny pot syndrome

Naturally, we, Nigerians are optimistic people. This also extends to the hope that a good job will come soon. Well, it may come but how long should one wait idly for it? Should graduates remain for months and years for jobs without improving themselves? This is another problem.

Real reason why unemployment is a choice

A lot of things have changed since the nineties and early 2000s. Opportunities have sprung up with the improvement in technology. These opportunities have created opportunities for people to now earn a living from the comfort of their home with no regards to their tertiary degree.

Unlike regular jobs, the floor is open and anyone can choose to earn. No one can shut another out of the opportunity to earn and there are several models to pick from. So if anyone refuses to learn a skill and also refuses to turn to the various digital money making models (as many are doing,) then they have likely chosen to remain unemployed.

It doesn’t make sense to discard as non-working what others are profiting from. It’s absurd.

Digital money making models you can start earning from

There are several digital money making models you can start earning from.

Model 1

Kindle Direct Publishing: Do you enjoy writing? Then this is definitely for you. With Kindle, you can begin to publish your books. The good news about this is that your reach is not restricted but rather global! You can always track the number of sales you make on each book that you publish.

How it works:

When you register on the site, you are immediately eligible to commence publishing. The more the number of sales you are able to make, the more your income will increase. However, Amazon will deduct 30% of your earnings if you are not a US person or if you do not reside in countries with tax treaties with the US. You will get your earnings in US dollars 60 days after every month that you have made sales.

Advantages

- The market is global which means more chances to make sales
- Once you publish a book, you will continue earning royalties for life
- You can publish books at your own convenience or pace

How to start

Career / Tips And Tricks You Must Do To Become A Top Freelancer In 2018 by RegalLady: 10:55am On Feb 19, 2018

The idea of making money online is spreading like wildfire as many people are indicating interest to begin freelance. There are several freelance websites from which interested people can start selling such as Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer, PeoplePerHour etc. All of these websites have witnessed increased registration in the last few years due to the realization that people can earn income from it.

While many people are flooding these digital platforms, there’s the other side of the coin which is that you now have to do things differently if you want to make significant progress in your freelance business. The days of just stumbling into gold on freelance sites are long gone. You must deliberately plan your success and draft your strategies. This may seem like something difficult to do; but if you take into cognizance that a lot of researched and processed information is all around, you wouldn’t be perplexed.

If you’re looking for a big break in 2018 in freelance, here are some tips that can help you achieve your goal quicker. As you read, you may realize they are big points. However, these small tips and tricks are the little things that we overlook and it’s these little things that count. You ready?

1. Be Nice and Polite
First of all, you must realize that you’re no longer in Nigeria when you join these sites. As Nigerians, we have very tough skin that words seldom hurt us. In fact, most times, we just laugh away insults that are pretty weighty. Yes, we have seen and heard all manner of insult and rudeness for us to worry about a cheap jab.

On these freelance sites, these people are not as tough as you yourself. Words matter to them and they can easily detect your tone or disposition to them via what you type. So, be nice and polite. Even when they’re rude or they come off as arrogant, still be nice and polite. Come to think of it; that’s the real way to run a business, no?

2. Always deliver orders fast

As Nigerians, we have the natural habit of doing things at the late hour. We don’t attend parties till it’s half way already. We don’t read for exams till it comes knocking in a week or two. We don’t fix issues till they deteriorate and scream for attention.

You must act differently on these freelance websites. You have to admit it that our fire brigade approach is bad and not always productive. When you receive orders, deliver them as quick as possible. In fact, you stand to gain repeat customers, not because you offer some exceptional service, but because you deliver on time. So help your revenue and your ranking and deliver orders fast.

3. Always send the last word

Many Nigerians are always quick to end a conversation. Even on social media platforms, people tend to ignore messages because they think it’s not worth replying. They ignore some mails because it doesn’t just make sense to send a reply.

Don’t take that mentality into freelance. You know the feeling of a sending a message and someone not replying you because they thought they’ve got everything figured out? Buyers don’t want that. Do your best to always send the last word in every conversation. It would help buyers rate you high in terms of communication.

4. Create more gigs; expand your skills

The assumption that you should focus on only one thing is bad for freelance business. In fact, except you have no desire to grow your income, don’t even try it. As a new seller, you can create more than one gig, so why settle for less?

Always create as many gigs as possible. You will earn more income from multiple orders and also get to improve yourself. It’s advisable that you create other gigs under the same category so buyers can see that you’re a professional. Moreover, it will help increase your chances of upselling.

5. Promote your Fiverr profile

You’re not the only one joining Freelance websites, so don’t just expect orders to start coming in massively. While these sites are happy you registered with them because you swell their numbers, they’re not too excited about you because you’re not the only one. They just want to make money by connecting buyers and sellers.

So when you get aboard, don’t wait for the site to promote your gig. It’s your profile; it’s your gig, so it is your job. There are many ways of promoting your gig and some of them including owning a blog to display your portfolio, actively contributing to popular sites, writing guest posts for popular blogs, having a YouTube channel etc

6. Don’t do it if you can’t do it

Stop getting enticed with the budget on jobs. If you don’t know how to offer a service, don’t do it. If you cannot offer a service in time, don’t do it. Many people put ridiculous expectations on their services such as “I will write an article for you in one hour” or “I will write a 30,000 word e-book in three days.

If you try any of the tricks like the above, be prepared to explain to clients when they flood your profile with good reasons why you cannot keep your word. In the end, you will be left be plenty cancelled orders or bad reviews.

7. Write all your description yourself

When you join a freelance site, you’re advised to check out some of the top-rated seller to see how they write the description about themselves and the services they offer. The logic is simple: copy what is working.

However, don’t take that logic literally. The copy and paste business may land you in trouble if the real seller finds out. Furthermore, when you copy such descriptions, your gig would have a voice that’s different from your personality and buyers can easily spot this when they interact with you. Instead of copying everything...
