I've travelled to a native village (name witheld for privacy reasons) in Malawi on a research where couples live in one room mud-house, they travel to several miles away to get stream water. The men hunt bush meats but most times are at home doing nothing especially during winter. You've not experienced real broke, man. The women do lots of tasks including farming. In the end we gave them dollar gifts, plastic containers for storing of liquid, cartons of bathing soaps (they stinck awfully), food stucks, etc. but despite these conditions, the couples are happy and faithful to each other.
