During this summer we met with the Nigerian Nobel laureate; Professor Wole Soyinka, Femi Osofisan amongst other around Africa, to enable us into their world concerning a research project we are presently working on. Then we thought, maybe you might also be interested in letting us into your world either by sharing your articles, essays, poems or point of view with us on critical issues facing the general art-face of Africa. An urgent need for change and development in African has dawn on a group of the next generation of Nigerian Artistes, teamed up to form a collective of Young Artistes from the performing to the visuals and letters art. Young Kings Project (YK Projects) operating between Nigeria and France was on an African tour this summer, The team, consisting three Nigerian artists and two French artists touched Nigeria between 21st and 26th of July, Egypt between 26th and 31st of July, South Africa between 31st July and 4th August, Mozambique between 4th and 8th August, Kenya between 8th and 14th August and finally to Cameroon from 14th and ends on 20th August 2007, all for the purpose of realizing a research project "DO WE NEED COLA-COLA TO DANCE?" organized and produced by YK Project. A research project exploring the engagement of the 21st century African artistes in the global discussion and in the development of the continent's art-face mostly in terms of quality audience and a better working art market structure, network, survival and a better future for its people and men & women of ideas around the globe. A documentary film and photographic Book will soon review our expedition. This project opens a new vista and should trigger an awareness of the Africaness in this 21st century African youths, which has been deeply wiped off due to the powers that has been and with the support of the almighty American capitalist world power, where all that **bling bling** is all that matters, leaving us with illusions, thinking that its greener on the other side of the island and pay better attention to the unnecessary, while the essential passes us by, this influence is an unconscious day after day realities we live as young Africans growing under tension of the stronger dogs eating up the weaker ones, while we continually loose ourselves in the quest for evolution and globalization. We have a point of view to this situation, a view which accuses the generation before ours of our misfortunes, a view which presently disagree to some of our past messiahs due to a change in time, a view that actually reviews the past in order to make a bearable future for us as Africans but first as Humans. This is a generation of the contemporary Africans, and this is what this project is all about, making a new testament out of what the African big masquerades of the 20th century has written in the past. We think Maybe the tonality is different, the rule of the game is changing and even affects nature's master-plan, the youth no longer listen to disco, they now do Hip-Hop, they no longer post letters, now is the -E- era, so our interest is to get their attention to the essentials, regardless the doors that leads us there, we have decided to speak their language using the arts as a tool, initiating projects that has high resolution powers to known problems, through the media, going to the streets, publish books, make documentary films, initiate more sensible television programs and bring them back to the theater. The summary of this long song of ours is just to raise an awareness and provoke a reaction from you, challenge your instinct and finally inviting you to be part of this monstrous project, anything you add to it will go a very long way in the realization of this research project, we shall be glad if you can keep the ball rolling by forwarding this URGENT message to some Very important or interesting or intelligent people (VIP) anywhere around the four corners of the world who can possibly be interested in contributing to this. The publishing of the book as been accepted by The AFRICA WORLD PRESS (New Jersey. USA) and TRAFFORD PUBLISHING COMPANY (UK), it will be realized/translated in French and in English, you can visit our website to make it clearer, www.ykproject.com. and reply to young-kings@africamail.com NOTE THAT THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS 15th OF OCTOBER 2007 (REPLY ONLY IN FRENCH OR ENGLISH) DUE TO THE STRICT FOCUS OF THE OBJECTIVES AND FOR THE REPUTATION OF THE BOOK, NOT ALL ESSAYS OR ARTICLES OR POEMS WILL BE PUBLISHED AFTER SCREENING. its such a pity that i belong to group of low thinkers who turns blind eye to books and indepth analyses, Wole, Kongi himself, i am very sure will not do what he hasn't done when he had all the posibilities of doing it some decades back, someone even said he hasn't make a movie, pls SEUN go and do your home work well, and if Nigeria is not just what it is, when soyinka was showing all i mean all his plays at the National theatre, at the muson centre and unversities arround Nigeria, who was it showing it to, if not the masses. his books in bookstores and libraries who are they meant for if not the masses, well you guys might be right Kongi might not make a good leader for a nation such as nigeria i agree but that has not called for disrespect for a respected man Such as Kongi who has not even commited the crime we all here are pulling into his head. ![]() |

Lephillipe, have you ever studied Nigerians, Nigerians are not violent, they are frustrated sure and there is poverty, a normal armed rubber's aim is not to kill his is to make off with you belongings, he cares less if you live or not, so not killing the hostages is not an argument, do you know that lots of young guys even those who are not from the so called south south are relocating in order to be part of the lucrative business, they are just selfish and greedy even some of then are not willing to see an end to this, but situation like this is really critical for obasanjo, who cant afford to give them what they are asking for and at the same time can't give room for a civil war because this guys are really ready for that, at the same time we cant tell the TOUBABS to leave the south south. with time we hope it will come to an end because this is shameful |
Hi guys can anyone give hints on a MUST visit place in Nigeria, i am working on a documentary of Nigeria talking about why one must visit Nigeria, so can you contribute to this research by telling me those places, people and sites in Nigeria with genuine attributes and the whole world need to see, I'm not out for beauty in the |
ya same thing i'm talking about, these are all showbiz not arts, arts is not for profit making, its to be of humanitarian purpose rather than businees, and this guys making music, movies etc are actually out for profit and this are the sets nigerians are out for, and its actually a pity i think but what i actually want to know is if there is something that has to be done which hasn't been done of something that is happening which is not suppose to? |
can anyone give tangible reasons why Nigerians are losing interest in the arts, [s]i mean main artistes and not showbiz artistes[/s],and this is actually putting lots of Nigerian artistes to a hostile environment and causing them all migrate, today talking about the great of the greatest world artistes in world of Photography, Contemporary dance, contemporay music, Painting and even literature there one will find Nigerians but strange enough one will never find them in Nigeria, they are rather living and working in France, Germany, UK or USA. |
