Politics / Re: Tinubu, Nigeria Is Sinking And Streets Are Full Of Tears- Kperogi by ReubenE(m): 1:58pm On Feb 03
nairalanda1:

1.Subsidy is not bad, but you have to have the money to pay for it. Here in NIgeria, our tax to gdp is too low to pay for subsides. As for the oyel money....90% is going on debt servicing , and we produce as much as Libya, which has 8 million people, and which can afford to subsidise. We have 200 million people, and far more needs than LIbya. Wey the money go come from.?

2.US, UK, Russia, China, and Europe pay what is called production subsides. In other words, they pay money to the refining companies to see if they can reduce costs. The refineries and market still set the prices. Also, US Has some form of financial aid to the poor re fuel, but you have to be means tested to see if you deserve it.(and if the government thinks you earn above a certain level, ye don't qualify).

US by the way, fuel prices vary from place to place. Some states eg California, are very very expensive.

(Also spend some time on US sites like reddit...someone posts a thread showing a fuel station where fuel costs 50 cents a gallon, and people would be complaining like NIgerians, lol).

Here, we made the refining companies sell fuel below production cost, and paid them a subsidy that doesn't adequately cover the production cost. That is how we went from 40000bpd capacity in 1986 to 92000bpd in 2011, to 6000bpd in 2019. And because domestic refining was not profitable, the refineries all collapse.

Venezuela also does subsides like we do. Fuel costs N40 there. Meanwhile they have lost refining capacity so badly it is sad.

NIger is poorer than we are, they have a refinery, they have domestic crude production, and fuel there costs 1000 naira per liter or more. NO subsidy. DItto Ghana. Two working refineries self in Ghana.
You are still parroting this your angst with subsidy. Thought you abandoned it after our last dialogue.
You should be asking yourself why 90% of "our oyel" money goes into debt servicing. It is so because those loans were not used for anything meaningful but looted. If those loans were self servicing, you'll not be talking about 90%

And what's your obsession with the narrative that Nigeria does not have money. I'm beginning to think you are a politician directly or indirectly.
Senators, Reps, Presidency, and government at lower levels budget billions for frivolities and you still believe Nigeria does not have money. It is absurd that it is what affects poor people that y'all always remember that Nigeria does not have money.

All your other points, I need not address them as we've been there before.

The Bible speaks of the destruction of all nations that come against Jerusalem in the book of Zechariah chapter 12!
The Bible very clearly specifies that destruction will come upon the nations that try to divide ISRAEL!

This is direct defiance of the Holy Scriptures going against the everlasting covenant between GOD and the Apple of HIS eyes, ISRAEL.

This would draw the Wrath and Judgement of GOD against Britain, the USA and every Nation involved in the Process.

Sadly, this confirms the speculation that the asupreme court is indeed a part of the presidency.
The point most people are not getting. The Supreme Court is the most rubbished institution in this country.

When a politician wins a litigation and they go to the president to thank him, they are by other means announcing that the president is the owner of the Supreme Court, that they can and will only do what he wants.

I did not vote for Tinubu but truth be told, he seems to have good intentions. I am 100% obidient but since court has decided, I have to support him, if he succeeds, it's for the good of all of us. I have entirely nothing to gain if he fails.
After six months, you still think he or his government has good intentions, the joke is on you.

With the thievery and profligacy that this administration has inflicted on Nigeria in six months alone, not to talk of the almost zero security, you still talk about good intentions. The only intention Tinubu had and still do is was to become president and it ends there.

You can pray for him to succeed which is a noble thing. However, those prayers will not do anything. You don't have to pray for someone that has good intentions to succeed especially the president of Nigeria. In terms of "Political Power" the Nigeria president may be among the top ten most powerful in the world as he can virtually act without restraint. Tinubu has the National Assembly and the Judiciary on his palm so what are you praying for him to succeed again. He already has everything he needs to succeed

Even SANUSI is playing the same politics he is blaming with this take.

If there are certain people in the CBN that only see it as an address in Abuja, why not sack them for incompetence instead of creating another burden on already troubled national treasury.

Same like Tinubu subsidy removal logic. Arrest the thieves and punish them, NO. We'll kill everybody so nobody can steal again.
We will punish all Nigerians by removing food from their mouth because some people are stealing food.

Winning123:

How else do you describe burning down a House of Assembly. You are the one who is ? not Nigeria.
It is "Arson"

They committed arson and there is a punishment in law for that if they are proven guilty.

If our courts are not controlled by politicians, that case will be struck out for overstating their offence as the prosecution will find it difficult to prove their case of "terrorism". It is exactly how government lose cases in court because the intent is not to correct and punish but to crush dissent.

Again, I'm shocked you have a problem with me calling out government for naming terrorists - bandits.
If you are serious, you ought to have a problem with government doing that too instead of coming after me

The only true succor that can come to that family is apprehending those kidnappers that killed their child and meting out the right punishment to them.

Governor will visit, make political statements and return to business as usual with the usual being that they do absolutely nothing about the security of ordinary people except for their immediate family and friends.

All the same, Fubara was foolish to have withdrawn court cases that gave him advantage.

He even asked his reliable eye in the Assembly (Edison Ehie) to resign ... further depleting his numerical strength in the Assembly.

I know he was tricked, but it was stupid of him to have accepted such agreement.

He is now very vulnerable to Wike
.

@bold

The single biggest mistake that man has done. The presence of Edison Ehie in that Assembly was the equalizer as he even had a court judgment authenticating him as the rightful speaker whether opponents agree with it or not, coupled with the other pariah members moving to another political platform that appear to be against the law that prescribe movement from one party to another

That's how you know a country and leadership that is not serious with anything.

Terrorists = Bandits, so the outside world don't view Nigeria as a security threat

Political opponents = Terrorists, so they can use state apparatus to crush dissent

richiemcgold:
It is like trying to stop a president from doing his job. If a president can't intervene in a crisis, tell me why is he a president then?
No, that is not correct.

A president and anybody can intervene in any crisis but they cannot appropriate powers to themselves that the constitution does not bestow on them.
What you are saying is; a president can come and assign your family house to any body he likes because you have a crisis of ownership of the said house with another party under the pretense that it is likely to cause crisis in the neighborhood. To avoid that is why we have a rule book in every country.

Even the Supreme Court of Nigeria don't have jurisdiction to hear every litigation in Nigeria

Foreign Affairs / Re: US And UK Carry Out Strikes Against Iran-Backed Houthis In Yemen by ReubenE(m): 6:51pm On Jan 13
madridguy:
I am sure you're getting the wrong information about the Houthis and their mission.

Their point is simple and direct. If you cannot allow medical aid to come into Palestine, then we are also blocking our own water way from every ship bringing anything into Israel. It is not their water way the only way into Israel, they can sail their ship through other sea.

It is international waters that guarantees freedom of navigation. Then again, the Houthis don't have any water and the areas they occupy even is illegal. The Houthis are not the representative government of Yemen so does not have the locus to decide which ship or not should sail in the Red Sea.
The Houthis are non state actors, and I say again using the logic from your earlier comment. The Houthis should attack Israel directly as that is the root cause of their grievance.
They should not go about attacking children and grannies while the brother they have problem with (Israel) is right there.
Foreign Affairs / Re: US And UK Carry Out Strikes Against Iran-Backed Houthis In Yemen by ReubenE(m): 5:38am On Jan 13
madridguy:
Truly the Houthis are the heroes of our time. They are proven to the world what they're capable of doing.

I expected the US/UK to take the fight to the Red Sea, fight the Houthis soldiers there and not taking your fighter jet to be bombing civilians sleeping at home.

If you have differences with your fellow man, fight him at the spot, going behind to fight his aged mother, wife and children is nothing but being coward.

The Houthis have been blocking any Isreali own ship from passing the Red Sea, I expected the US/UK to take the full fight to the Red sea and not to Yemen.

Now we all can see Israel is just a light weight fighter claiming heavy weight.
I think it is more proper that you direct this to the Houthis you support if you are not trying to be hypocritical.

The Houthis claim their attacks on commercial ships in international waterway is to stop Israel in Gaza. Now according to your logic, is it not more effective and a sign of boldness like you claimed about the Houthis that they shoot missiles to Israel and not commercial ships going about their business.

You say it is a sign of weakness for the US to attack Houthi military infrastructure right inside their stronghold but you consider the Houthis to be brave when then attack random civilian ships. The Houthis should attack Israel to test the limits of their courage as Israel is the one they have issues with.
Your request better fits the Houthis than it does the US

Houthis should shoot a missile into Israel to stop them from attacking Palestinians
