Also, I forgot to add this in my previous post. You'll need to create a portfolio on your profile, and upload samples of jobs you’ve done in the past. From the screenshot you shared, you haven’t published anything yet.

Since you create AI cartoon videos, clients will definitely want to see proof of your work before taking you seriously. One good idea is to open a YouTube channel, upload some of your videos there, and then add the channel link to your Upwork portfolio.

You should also create a one-minute introduction video on your profile. In the video, go straight to the point and clearly explain the tools you use and the kind of results you can deliver for clients. There’s no need for long introductions.

Upwork is brutal and heavily saturated. If you want to stand out, especially as a new freelancer, you have to be unique.

As a newbie on Upwork, my honest advice is to start with cheaper gigs, preferably between $10–$50. Those are the jobs you realistically stand a chance of landing at this stage. Most high paying gigs require experience, even if clients don’t state it outright. Trust me, when it comes down to choosing, many clients will pick someone with a Top Rated or Top Rated Plus badge over a new freelancer with no reviews.

For now, your main goal should be profile building, not big money. Focus on landing small jobs, delivering excellent work, and getting 5-star ratings and solid reviews. That’s what speeds up the process of earning a badge, which in turn opens the door to higher-paying jobs.

I’d also recommend subscribing to Freelancer Plus instead of buying connects. It costs $20 per month, but you get 50% off on your first month, so you’ll pay just $10. With Freelancer Plus, you get 100 free connects, plus the about 50 welcome connects Upwork gives new users. That’s roughly about 150 connects in total.

Another advantage is that Freelancer Plus gives you daily alerts on newly posted jobs, so you can apply to listings within seconds of them going live. That alone increases your chances significantly.

When applying for jobs, try to focus on clients from the US, Canada, Australia, and Europe.
