Kalulu44: I don't think you still get it, First of as at then we didn't know about streaming dsp or what you call it and even as at now sef, with the streaming apps, can you get into the main stream without dealing with the music executives. Didn't Mohbad know about the streaming app that the music executives almost and succeeded in killing his music career. Where is Reekado Banks now after he left Don Jazzy? See once you don't do their bidding or have done and you want to get out, they'll frustrate you with everything. No other record label will sign you. They'll give top radio stations dj money not to be playing your music including the streaming apps. You think those upcoming musicians in US that wants to make it don't know about streaming app that P.Diddy and the likes are frustrating them bcus they refused to play balls. If you decide to stay on your own, highest you will be heard here and there but that superstardom forget it Bro your mindset is very pressimistic if you keep this type of mindset omo you no go grow oo forget all this dark side of music industry ..just do ur music passionately and make d few money you can and focus on your growth .....na people wey de in a rush to blow na dem de pressure to use...for their sacrifice |

Kalulu44: Thank you for asking to share my experience. . Back in 2012 when I was very active on Facebook, I met a young aspiring boy who is into music and wants to go into it big time on Facebook. We became friends and we chat a lot. He was living in Ibadan while I was in Lagos. When we first became friends I didn't know he was a singer until our chats went on and on. So one day he told me he has a demo and he's looking for marketer to help him market his music. And that he's been hearing of Alaba market the then centre of big marketers of music. That since I lived in Lagos I should know Alaba so I can take him to the place. Fortunately for him, where I live in Lagos is #50 bus fare to Alaba market back then. I told him no problem that I know the place, anytime he's ready to come I will take him to the place. So one Saturday he travelled down from Ibadan to Lagos and got to my place on Saturday evening, it was too late for us to go there so he spent the weekend at my place and we headed for Alaba on Monday. But between that Saturday and Sunday I have played his 5 tracks demo over and over again and they were good songs. The rythm are ok and it's danceable. I told him he has good songs and voice too. So on Monday we headed to Alaba and somehow located ABHU Ventures the marketers of Timaya back then. When we got their office and told them what we came for, they usher us their main boss office. After introduction and all, he asked for my friend's demo disk. After playing and rewinding them he nodded his head and said Wow! That my friend has good songs that's marketable but...... And then paused. We asked him what's the but for? He now said if I can excuse him and let him talk to my friend the owner of the songs one on one, as I wanted to get up my friend said nope that I shouldn't go anywhere that he should tell him anything he wanted to say while I'm there, that I am his uncle. The boss then said ok and then change his language to Igbo which both of us were. He told my friend in Igbo language that can he do what it takes to make his music blow and become a star/superstar like others. We were confused, though me I know where he's heading to but just to pretended so that he can elaborate more on it. My friend told him he doesn't understand what he's saying. He shooked his head, lean back on his seat and just blotted the words out. With stern voice he said can you do blood sacrifice? Silence filled the office for like 2 min and then we told him if he can give us some minutes to deliberate about it with ourselves. He told us to go out and think about it and get back to him in 10min. We went out, and I asked my friend can you and do you want to do it. He was pissed off and told me this was exactly what they told him back in Ibadan that he has to do some sacrifice of sorts. So I asked him what was in his mind now, and he told me it's a no no for him and if that's how it gonna pan out concerning music in Nigeria he will just forgo everything. I said no problem I know what to say, we went back to the boss and I told my brother is yet to make up his mind maybe he should give us some days to think about it, he agreed. Gave us back the demo tape and we left. After my friend left for Ibadan we continue chatting until some months later he relocated to Malaysia to join one of his brother who's a business guy. That was how he jettison his music idea. After some years we lost contact. It was even thru him I knew 99% of musicians/Artiste can't enter stage without having taking either drugs or alcohol. And I have witness that countless times, if you still want me to share that I can share it too. So with this your friend left music a passion ....he has carried for long that means he is not serious in the first place , he is a chicken hearted person .. This can't stop any willing person to pursue his career...look today wher are the Alaba marketer they ave been left behind ...the streaming dsp are the new wave.... |

Kalulu44: And who are the management, I am telling you something from a personal experience. If you don't go thru what I stated above. You will just make music and get known. But to enter the next level of Fame and superstar, you have to do the do. When Oritse Femi said "if you're new in the game, make you go pay your tithe" you think it's just ordinary lyrics. Dagrin said in Ponponpon, that his first album didn't sell. But after going to the river to wash his head things change. You think all these are mere lyrics. If you want my personal experience I will share it with you Yes I know people do some sort of juju which off course it's African tradition...notin bad to wash it head in river ..but when it comes to joining a secret cult of music or something strange that one I don't know Tell us ur own experience |

Kalulu44: You gave a precise analysis on how he can make it but left out just one more thing. He needs to belong, he needs to belong and connect with the right music executives and they in turn initiates him into their inner workings. Don't ask me what I mean by inner workings Forget this ...this is for lazy minds...it's does not work In today's world Social media alone can blow someone and executive can come after you na u go de even give the conditions but it's very hard to blow and stay consistent again without good management |

CoronaVirusPro: You are a newbie on this forum. If you were an OG. You won’t be saying I am from the East.
Look at the slum you call a LGA. Does it look to you that, street renaming should be necessity in all the challenges facing the LGA?
Your lots hate the truth and why stagnancy has become a norm. Outside hoodlums and street urchins, nothing puts that LGA on the map.
No one in the entire world prays to leave in such environment. People residing there are either blind or waiting for opportunity to move to more decent areas.
Ajeromi Ifelodun? That’s an outright slum! Bro you don't know anything about Ajeromi ifelodun local govt...AJ city This is the only LG that have more hotels per junctions and street and lounges and hotels ...a place of enjoyment .....you d hear Apapa money pass Yahoo ...na here it originate from because of it's nearness to Apapa LG port city ...come here and see balling and see night life ... affordable ones no fakeness... Surulere is better for me than Lekki or VI. If not Surulere, I will consider Ikeja (GRA), but I don't really like noise. If God blesses me well, I will buy a property around alaka (the National stadium side). That place is quiet. I love the place. You will never understand how peaceful the area is until you enter the place, and you won't even know that such exists in Lagos. Mainwhile, the main road is express road oooo. epainos: I stand by what I wrote earlier, and I will condemn what isn't right. This guy described Surulere like a poor neighbourhood. The area Fashola's (ex governor of Lagps State) parents live till date. I will want to agree with the person who said some parts of Aguda can be included, but as soon as you say Aguda, those outside the border will say they live in Surulere. Aguda has clean part that I don't mind living. So many expensive building there. But as soon as you step into those muddy areas, dem sef dey claim Surulere.
Yes, Iponri and Alaka are there, right beside the express way. Are you going to say they are dirty now? Even DSTV is at Alaka. Those low cost estates used to disfigure the place, but Gbaja has put beauty there. But I stand to be corrected that despite the old ugly Jakande low cost buildings there, the roads have been clean. So, writing here that pot holes here and there in Surulere is wrong.
You can argue with me, but I am telling you that the Shoprite store at Adeniran Ogunsanya is one of the best sellers in the country. And this India grocery store (I have forgotten its name) had to pay huge to get a huge land right beside that Shiprite when they realised how Shoprite is making it huge, and both are doing well despite they are beside each other. Many Sundays, I have met people there to just chat. I use the Laudromat in the Shoprite building too. So, you wan tell me say a no know Surulere? Na waoooo. Cos I removed Aguda. Right?
Surulere is a residential area that doesn't allow high rise, and some good companies have their branches there. Samsung has got its section for repairs along that same Adeniran Ogunsanya. MTN is at Bode Thomas. Two GTBs are along Bode Thomas. Do you know what that means? So many reputable companies who want rich people to patronise them are there. Good thing is that as you are coming from the Island along Carter bridge, you either get down from Costain or Alaka. That nice. Then, you can enter from Yaba or Oyingbo, and the good news is that those bridges that are built to fly over the railway there makes it cool. You don't get to experience nasty people when coming to Surulere from the two ends that many people used to avoid in the past.
Then, Masha. That roundabout beside Teslim Balogun Stadium. Even the National stadium is there ar the otherside. Millions of dollars have been spent to do a make over on those two stadia. The express road is clean. So many car sales points. Innosson Motors is there. So.
Have you ever flown a drone at night and observe the beauty of surulere? After Gbaja did a job with more roads and buildings...., see...you will think you are in Europe if you view it from above with a drone.
Don't ever come tell me nonsense about my Surulere oooo. Not those attached areas like Ijesha. Ok. Lawanson. Fine. But I know the area will change soon. Why? Mudashiru built a mini Estate that Gbaja even touched there, and the cost of getting houses there is getting extremely high too. I give it 5 years, and it will be like this Bode Thomas while Bode Thomas, Ogunlana drive, Adeniran Ogunsanya and adjacent streets will be reserved area for the extreme rich people.
I love driving from Ojuelegba to join Ogunlana drive. Mehn....by my right, you wilk see junks. Just a pity Idiaraba (LuTH) is in that area. I just wish at times that it was by the left and not right.
You hardly see pot holes in most roads in Surulere again. So, why is this guy saying rubbish? I stand by my words.
If I start talking about the National Stadium side .....let's just leave it. Alaka side of National Stadium is an enclosure many people do not take serious. That place is extrenly quiet and I know many millionaires there. Forget it. People who dont want Island traffic wahala. Yaba guys at the border always claim Surulere which is so annoying. Even Ebute Metta too. But You know what? Ebute and yaba will soon change from the beginning to the end. Especially Ebute Metta, down to Iddo. Why? Government is beginning to remove all the shanties near the lagoon. And rich men are moving there because the beauty of having homes near a lagoon is about t happen there. Go and check out what the headquarters of the Redeemed church is doing there presently. You will bow. And then, filling the lagoon is going on. The whole nasty area is changing. When you stand in the UNILAG high rise building, you will start seeing good view of Ebute Metta soon.
Poor people have moved out. They can't pay the bills there. Families have sold their houses there, and rich people and companies have bought many there.
You will find pot holes even in VI in very minor streets, but they aren't many just like Surulere.
Don't let me talk ooo. I know exactly what I am saying. Oga you need to apply for LG Chairman of surulere ...omo you know surulere dye.....Lol.... |

ElevationD: Surulere LCDA stands on its own, receiving its own allocation, just as Coker-Aguda local government does. They all have their chairmen and councillors. How do you want to put them as asunder?
Going by the name Coker-Aguda, how does Aguda find itself in Surulere, if not within the geographical boundaries of its LCDA? There is no conflicting information anywhere. I lived in Aguda, Lawanson and Masha. I attended primary school first in Anjorin street, Lawanson and then Oduduwa street, Ikate. I know Surulere in and out. I know Aguda in and out and I know the boundaries. Imagine and u grow up here and still de use old demarcation de judge ....yes you are an OL G of Surulere you know there back and front .....it's true itire ijeshatedo .. Aguda were not Surulere in the olden days it was a new found land but come to think of it population growth and territory need to be expanded and government need to chop na ....where will they throw those new communities to....mushin LG or where ..... Surulere was wise to attach those areas to its government so it's Surulere LG ..Coker Aguda is an LCDA carved out of Surulere LGA...also Ikate itire LCDA carved out of Surulere LG .... That is how it is in every LG in Lagos ...formerly there were no LCDA it's later we are now seeing it .... Oga Aguda , Ikate , itire , ijeshatedo are all Surulere II |
