PoliticsUNIPORT Lecturers Opt-out Of Rivers Re-run Election Over Wike’s Warning by rexington(op): 2:34am On Mar 08, 2016
Some lecturers of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) who were listed to serve as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the March 19 State and National Assembly re-run elections in Rivers State have opted out of the exercise over an alleged threat by the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.

INEC had shortlisted about 300 lecturers from UNIPORT to serve in the election as ad hoc staff.
The lecturers, who met with the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Ndowa Lale, on Monday, said their decision to stay away from the exercise was as a result of the statement credited to the governor that those who planned to rig the re-run elections should be ready for the consequences.

Wike had told Lale that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had infiltrated the list of lecturers from the institution with the aim of rigging the re-run legislative elections through the imposition of politically compromised returning officers.
The governor had also claimed that one Dr Otu Ekpeyong and an APC chieftain in Asari-Toru connived to draw up a list of returning officers from the UNIPORT with the aim of rigging the re-run polls.
He had warned that lecturers who would allow themselves to be used by APC chieftains would face the wrath of Rivers people.

Addressing the gathering of over 300 lecturers on Monday, Ekpeyong described himself as a man of integrity who had witnessed many elections in the past and wondered why the governor should suspect that he was planning to rig the March 19 re-run elections.

Ekpeyong said he had taken a personal decision not to be part of the election.

“The vice chancellor gave me a job, which I did to the best of my ability. This (INEC ad-hoc employee) is an assignment I have done for over seven years and my integrity has never been in doubt.

“Personally, I am making a decision of not going anywhere (not to be part of the election),” Ekpeyong said.

Another lecturer, Dr. Ben Ihewosira, explained that he was also opting out of the Rivers State re-run elections, adding that the exercise had been politicised.

Similarly, Dr. Abdulrahman Megida, who is a senior lecturer in UNIPORT, specifically demanded that his name be expunged from the list of INEC ad-hoc staff for the polls.

According to him, “My name is synonymous to the All Progressives Congress and you know that the government here is PDP (Peoples Democratic Party). Based on that, I want my name to be expunged from the list.”

The vice chancellor had earlier advised the lecturers to stay away from the election if they were not sure of contributing to the conduct of a free, fair and credible election.

Lale pointed out that since INEC had not faulted the list, he would not withdraw it, adding that doing otherwise would mean authenticating the allegations against the lecturers, whose names were on the list.

“The university will not take it kindly with anybody who may want to rubbish its (UNIPORT) name during the forthcoming elections. I signed the list because I know the people on the list are people with integrity.

“But each of you should be sure of the decision you want to take. I want you all to be alive after the rerun elections on the 19th of March,” Lale said.

Ben Bruce attacks on APC and the Presidency is the case of the proverbial Kettle Calling Pot Black
I understand The older one gets; the more childish he/she thinks and acts..
If Ben Murray Bruce is acting childish at 60yrs because because he reminded the president of the deceptive words that brought him to power then the president must be acting 'grandchildish' when he said those words.

Just imagine the condemnation dokpesi got for recieving pay for services rendered by his outfit daar comm. and the defense linda ikeji (i believe she earned her money) got for rendering similar advertorials. lets stop this double standards, gej was literally crucified by APC for saying fuel subsidy must go and are about doing same from next year and nobody is hearing kill the cabals not nigerians. sometime last year Tinubu critizied the FG under GEJ for increase in power tariff and just 7 months into their govt they are giving us that as xmas gift. The dollar rose from 150 to 200 at the black market in six years of GEJ but seven months under PMB we have moved from 200 to 260. if this is the change voted am glad i didn't cast my vote.

funny enough some apc supporters reaction will be diff 4rm their rxn when it involved other. since we decided to go on a media trial lets seat back and watch the outcome. If it was wrong for the thisday guy to collect compensation how is that diff 4rm pmb collecting #300000 (75000000 naira). Come to think of it, pmb lied to us that he cannot pay for a form of 25 million naira not too long after he collected this sum.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Soldiers, Policemen Lied On Rivers Election - Inec Witnesses by rexington:
it is strange for a party to claim that there was no election in an lga and even more shameful to use officers of the well respected NA to play this script. but as always the case with lies they went ahead to make this claim even in IKWERRE LGA where fmr. gov AMAECHI comes from, while Amaechi can be seen on video clips casing his vote after inspecting the result sheets. If they lied in Ikwerre lga what is the chance that they did not lie in the other LGA's where they made such claims. This change na wah ooi

it is unfortunate that we let these lawbreakers to power, even when they disregarded the consti. in the name legislative defection. i am not surprised b/c ameachi has always shown more impunity even as a gov. but we will resist them in lawful way.

this is what we get as a nation when we put our faith in the hands of propagandist, hypocrist and people whose only mission is to gain power at the centre. in just over a month of this new movie 'episode of denial' we have scenes of the party and the presidency, presidency and accountant general, contradict themselve. the police agree and later deny inviting ekweremadu. we have been told of having empty treasury yet close to or more than 1.5 trillion have been shared from that same empty treasury. we have heard underground champaign by this same group who claimed to be a friend of the masses in 2012 (and who told gov to kill the cabal and not nigerians) to remove fuel subsidy. nnpc under this group a few days ago annouced that they made less than this group claim to be missing in one year. which way nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Why Obasanjo Endorsed Buhari By Okonjo-iweala by rexington(op): 2:31am On Feb 21, 2015
just saw this write up and felt i should let my fellow nairalanders see it
PoliticsWhy Obasanjo Endorsed Buhari By Okonjo-iweala by rexington(op): 2:29am On Feb 21, 2015
Why am taking a swift from supporting General Buhari . Just few hours ago, Obasanjo endorsed General Buhari as the man to deliver this nation. I was personally shocked, when I heard the news. This is because, I was expecting Baba to stay at the touch line, and leave Nigerians to study his body language. But the masquerade could not control his dance in the public market. Hence he mistakenly flogged his own mother who is also a trader in the market.
Nigerians, I am left with no option than to tell us that, these ex-generals and their boys are up to something. The issue at hand is not all about the presidential seat. But rather, the national cake (oil blocks). Less I forget, is it not the same Obasanjo who woke up and hand picked his puppet 2011, who eventually grew like Joseph the messiah of Egypt? Is it not the same Obj that told us 2011, that General Buhari is too old to rule this country? Is it not the same Obj that told us Buhari is a dictator? Somebody should have a rethink like me. We must understand the preacher’s language before decoding his message. If Obj can take a swift and prefer General Buhari to Jonathan, a puppet he dedicated his energy and resources to win 2011 election, then as an average Nigerian, we should have a rethink and ask our leaders what is so special in Aso Rock.
If leadership is to serve the people, why is it that, the ex-generals finally gang up against their new recruit on account of change? If we’re to outline the sins of Mr.President, are the ex- generals not guilty of such sins? One may ask why is SPEAKER taking a swift? Everybody wants change. But I am astonished the way and manner these ex- general joined the train of change.
Is it that, this is the first time they heard the word change? If NO, why did they not change this country when they were given opportunity? Why advocating for change now when the puppet body language shows he Will not renew their oil blocks licence? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet purchased equipment to monitor and reduce vandalism? Why advocating for change now, when the strong headed puppet wiped out their ghost names from the civil service pay roll? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet sacked your boys as corrupt ministers? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to dump Sambo for another puppet? Why advocating for change when he refused to kill Nigerians indiscriminately. But rather he is exploiting all means of dialogue.
Unlike your Odi brutal killings and destruction. Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to twist governors hands with EFCC to pave his way like you did? Why advocating for change now, when at 72 years, you still tell your children of 50years they are the leaders of tomorrow? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to give you the fertilizer deal? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to jail your enemies? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to rig election for your daughter? Why advocating for change now, when in your time railways were not working? Why advocating for change, when in your time, our judiciary could not delivered a fair judgement in favour of oppositions? Baba,Nigerians are fed up of you sitting in Otta, deciding their future.
We want to decide our destiny with the help of God. We want to practice true democracy by using our votes to decide our future. Let the good works or antecedents of our leaders speak volume for them. Just after the presidential chat with Mr.President, we discovered that, you, your colleagues and errant boys, are spreading false informations to pave your way to aso rock. Lastly, I challenge you Baba, Tinubu, atiku and others to tell Nigerians you don’t have oil blocks or you Generals are not fighting the last battle to protect your oil blocks. They won’t come out and speak my brothers and sisters. They want us to believe they are fighting for us. When they have their own local refineries at their backyards. R..I.P Fela: Animals wan dash me my human right.
