There is strong institution for check and balances. A president can't just order killing or unarmed people in America cos no one will carry out that order. Their democracy has matured so much that president might be powerful, but its very hard to missuse such power.

But in Nigeria, we are moving from different style of governance. And it has messed up our institution and psychy as people.


From parliamentary system in the 60s (the type they use in England) to brutish military dictatorship and now to demcra-zy that easily divides people in a multicultural country.

The parliamentary system divided us initially, military style made us see president as emperor's and all powerful and those have trickled down to democracy. Where we vote along ethnic line and allow president so much impunity because we are afraid of what he will do to us with soilders.
