Foreign AffairsPalestinian Commander Martyred In Clashes With Zionist Forces In WB by Rightmania(op): 1:14pm On Aug 30, 2024
Palestinian Commander Martyred in Clashes with Zionist Forces in WB

IQNA – A senior Palestinian commander was martyred in a heavy exchange of fire with the Israeli regime’s forces in the occupied West Bank.

He was the commander of a Palestinian resistance group affiliated with Saraya al-Quds, the military wing of the Gaza-based Islamic Jihad movement.

Palestinian media reports said on Thursday that Muhammad Samer Jaber, the commander of the Tulkarm Brigade, and four other resistance fighters had been killed during the occupation’s aggression on the Nour Shams refugee camp in the east of the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarm.

Reports said Jaber, known by his nom de guerre Abu Shujaa, was killed around 4:00 a.m. when the Israeli occupation army surrounded a building in the Tulkarm camp, where he and several other Palestinian fighters were located.

Following fierce clashes, Abu Shujaa and four others were killed by a missile while the Israeli occupation army captured another Palestinian fighter in the building.

The Israeli military said one of its soldiers was injured during the confrontation at the Nour Shams refugee camp.

The 26-year-old leader of the Tulkarm Brigade had for years been the target of assassination by the Israeli regime.

The Israeli military invaded the Tulkarm refugee camp in April and carried out one of its deadliest offensives in years, which resulted in the killing of 14 Palestinians and the wounding of many more.

At the time, after rumors spread that Abu Shujaa was killed, the young man appeared at the mass funeral of his colleagues, brandishing his automatic rifle and delivering an emotive speech about the continuation of the resistance.

Israel had been seeking to arrest him or kill him ever since, especially as the Tulkarm Brigade has emerged as one of the strongest of the fighting groups that are resisting the Israeli occupation of the West Bank.

Violence by settlers and raids by Israeli forces have surged across the occupied West Bank since Israel launched its barbaric military campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip in October last year.

According to medical sources, the aggression has so far resulted in the killing of 18 citizens in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Tubas, while more than 30 others were injured, bringing the death toll since October 7, 2023 to 667.

The Islamic Jihad movement said in a statement that Abu Shujaa was one of the founders of the Tulkarem Brigade and praised the “heroic confrontation” of the commander and his companions with the occupation soldiers.

“Our Palestinian people knew the leader Abu Shujaa for his steadfastness and courage, a fighter who decided to confront the occupation bravely with his brothers, to lift the injustice imposed on their people, realizing that confronting the enemy, whatever the price, is much easier than living under a criminal occupation that kills children, violates sanctities, humiliates dignity, executes people in the streets, confiscates property, plans day and night to steal land and displace its people, arrests children, besieges hospitals, commits massacres and wages a war of genocide,” the statement said.

Stressing that Abu Shujaa’s martyrdom “increases our people's steadfastness, resilience, and determination,” the Islamic Jihad said, “The enemy is trying in vain to eradicate our resistance in the West Bank, and we will thwart all its attempts.”

The statement added, “The martyrdom of a leader will be succeeded by a thousand leaders... and victory belongs to our people and our resistance.”

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas also mourned the assassination of Abu Shujaa and his comrades, saying, “We affirm that the continuation of the occupation's aggression on the West Bank will not break our people and resistance.”

“We emphasize that the crimes of the occupation will ignite the ground with flames under the feet of its terrified army and settler gangs, and will erupt the volcano of anger simmering in the West Bank due to the ongoing practices and arrogance of the occupation,” Hamas said.

“We call upon our heroic people in the West Bank for greater unity and cohesion with the resistance, intensification of the popular momentum and field confrontation with the occupation and its settlers until the aggression is repelled, the occupation is expelled, and we attain our freedom and legitimate rights,” the group added.

A phone call facilitated the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr

A phone call facilitated the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr
The call likely came from someone who breached Hezbollah’s communications network.

A phone call led Hezbollah commander to go to an apartment higher up in a building, thus facilitating his assassination, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Shukr, who lived an almost reclusive life despite his many activities with Hezbollah, received a phone call telling him to go to an apartment seven stories above the one where he was staying.

Soon after he moved to the new apartment, a strike slammed into the apartment and all those three stories below.

Shukr, his wife, two women and two children were killed in the attack.

The goal was to lure Shukr to a higher floor where he would be easier to target.

The call likely came from someone who breached Hezbollah’s communications network.

Hezbollah and Iran are investigating what led to the security breach and the assassination, but it is believed that Israel’s superior technology and hacking skills allowed it to interfere with communications.

Shukr was responsible for the attack on Majdal Shams that killed 12 children and is wanted by the US for the 1983 bombing of the US Marine Corps barracks in Beirut in an attack that killed 241 US Service personnel.

The US had put a $5 million bounty on the head of Fuad Shukr.

In addition, Shukr was a chief advisor to Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah and was the mastermind of the cross-border offensive that killed 8 IDF soldiers, kidnapped 2 others and started the 2006 Israel Lebanon War.

He was also instrumental in building Hezbollah’s arsenal from 15,000 to some 150,000, missiles, making it the best-armed nonstate actor in the region.

Shukr played a pivotal role in smuggling in Iranian weapons through Syria.

Hours after Fuad Shukr was assassinated in Beirut, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, reportedly by an explosion that was planted where he was staying months earlier and detonated by operatives within IRGC ranks.

The two assassinations have led to a standoff between Israel on one side and Hezbollah and Iran on the other, with the latter threatening to attack and get revenge for the assassinations.

BREAKING: Protesters Shot Dead in Niger State as Demonstrations Turn Bloody

At least six people have lost their lives and several others injured in the ongoing protest against bad governance in Suleja, Niger State.

The victims were shot by bullets fired by security operatives attempting to disperse a group of protesters who had barricaded a section of the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the protesters, mostly youths, had outnumbered the initial team of policemen at the scene, prompting a reinforcement team to be deployed. The situation quickly spiralled out of control, leading to pandemonium.

Among the victims was Yahaya Nda Isah, a resident of Hassan Dalatu Road, Suleja, who was hit by a stray bullet while riding his bike in front of the Suleja Police ‘A’ division.

“He was not even protesting. He was passing in front of the Police ‘A’ division when a stray bullet hit him on the chest, and he died on the spot,” Isah’s nephew said.

Another victim, identified as Mallam Abu, also died instantly. Witnesses reported that three others were shot at the same scene, while two more were injured at the Suleja Junction on Abuja-Kaduna road.

Israel on high alert following assassination of senior Hezbollah and Hamas leaders

What’s happened: Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has issued an order for Iran to strike Israel directly, in retaliation for the killing in Tehran of Hamas’s leader, Ismail Haniyeh.

In his public statement, Iran’s supreme leader, said: “we see avenging his blood our duty,” because it happened on the territory of the Islamic Republic. He said Israel had set the stage for receiving “a severe punishment.”
In a memorial ceremony held in Tehran, the Ayatollah personally led the prayers, while also speaking at the ceremony, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, said that the Israeli regime committed a ‘strategic mistake’.
In Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the nation on Wednesday evening and described the current conflict as an “existential war against a stranglehold of terrorist armies and missiles that Iran would like to tighten around our neck.”
Speaking of Hezbollah’s number two Shukr, Netanyahu said that he “was directly responsible for the massacre of our dear boys and girls in Majdal Shams. He was responsible for the murder of many other Israeli citizens. He was responsible for the unceasing assault against our citizens in the northern communities over nine months of war.”
“He was one of the most wanted terrorists in the world. The US put a $5 million bounty on his head, and for good reason. He was involved in the murder of 241 American soldiers and 58 French soldiers in Beirut in 1983. He was the main liaison between Iran and Hezbollah and he was responsible for the organisation’s missiles,” Netanyahu added.
Defence Minister Gallant spoke to his counterpart US Secretary of State Austin who reassured him by saying, “We certainly will help defend Israel. You saw us do that April. You can expect to see us do that again.”
The US has also now deployed at least 12 warships to the region, including the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, amphibious assault teams and over 4,000 Marines and sailors.
In a further unconfirmed attack, Syria sources are claiming that Brig Gen Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Forces, has been killed in a targeted attack close to Damascus. Hajizadeh is understood to have been the senior commander who oversaw the Iranian ballistic and cruise missile attack in April against Israel.

Israel strikes again? Top IRGC commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh assassinated in Syria's Damascus, claim reports

In a dramatic turn of events, unconfirmed reports from Syria suggest that Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Forces, has been assassinated in an attack near the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Hajizadeh, a key figure in the Iranian military hierarchy, was reportedly the senior commander behind the Iranian ballistic and cruise missile attacks against Israel in April.

According to journalist Levent Kamal, "There are unconfirmed reports from Syria that Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the Aerospace Forces of the IRGC, was killed in an attack near the Syrian capital Damascus."

Earlier this month, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the IRGC Aerospace Commander, made a bold statement indicating Iran's preparedness for future military actions. He declared, "We are eagerly looking forward to any opportunity for carrying out Operation True Promise 2.0, and this next operation will be much larger and greater in every aspect."

As we await official confirmation regarding Hajizadeh's reported assassination, social media is abuzz with speculation that Israel may be responsible for eliminating its third enemy within a span of less than 24 hours.

The incident comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, following recent developments involving Hamas and Hezbollah. Earlier today, reports emerged of the killing of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards in a strike on his residence in Tehran. The Palestinian group has accused Israel of orchestrating the attack, which Hamas has termed a "grave escalation." Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Earlier today, Israeli forces have confirmed the killing of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in an airstrike in Beirut. Shukr, who was implicated in the Majdal Shams massacre and accused of directing attacks on Israel, was a significant target for Israeli military operations. The strike on Shukr was part of a broader Israeli campaign against Hezbollah and its affiliates.

The timing of these attacks, including the reported assassination of Hajizadeh, suggests a coordinated effort by Israel to target high-profile figures within Iran’s network of allied militant groups. Israeli officials have, however, denied involvement in Haniyeh’s death but have claimed responsibility for the airstrike in Beirut.

The simultaneous killings of prominent figures from Hamas and Hezbollah could signal an attempt by Israel to assert its capability to strike at high-value targets across the region. The developments have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict, with Iran threatening retaliation and vowing to respond to the killing of Haniyeh.

PDP hails Gov Alia’s endorsement of ban on open grazing

The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has lauded Governor Hyacinth Alia over his decision to retain and embrace the ban on open grazing of livestock in the state.
The Prohibition of Open Grazing and Ranches Establishment Law which was assented to by the immediate past governor of the state, Samuel Ortom in 2017 was enacted to serve as a substantial bulwark against the influx of herdsmen into the state.

Recall that the governor had during his campaign, said the law would be reviewed when he assumes office, creating fear that his administration may jettison the the act.
His administration has, however, adopted the law as a way of tackling the security crisis bedevilling the state.

Reacting, PDP in a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, welcomed Alia’s final stand on the matter.

The party urged the governor to create an enabling environment for the herdsmen who are willing to embrace ranching to do so, saying those who are unwilling should be chased out of the state.

Part of the statement reads, “We welcome the governor’s stand and urge him to back his words regarding his new stand with action by getting those herdsmen willing to embrace ranching to take to the practice immediately while those unwilling to do so should leave the state.”

Nairaland GeneralRussia Will Use A Poseidon Underwater Missile To Wipe Britain Off The Map by Rightmania(op): 2:00pm On Mar 21, 2023
Russia will use a Poseidon underwater missile to wipe Britain off the map with a 1,000ft-high radioactive tsunami if NATO troops put boots on the ground in Ukraine, Putin's propagandists claim

Yevgeny Buzhinsky called for attacks on UK with Poseidon underwater missile
He said Britain 'will definitely not exist' if Russia unleashed the nuclear weapon
Russian state media has urged Vladimir Putin to use his underwater nuclear missile to wipe Britain off the map with a 1,000ft-high radioactive tsunami if NATO troops put boots on the ground in Ukraine.

Retired Russian general Yevgeny Buzhinsky called for attacks on Britain with a Poseidon underwater missile that he said would trigger a 1,000ft radioactive tidal wave.

Lt-Gen Buzhinsky, chairman of the Russian Centre for Policy Research, said Britain 'will definitely not exist' if Russia unleashed the wrath of the nuclear missile.

The warnings were made as Putin's propagandists discussed Russia's military options after its failure to make meaningful headway in Ukraine.

What is Russia's nuclear armed Poseidon torpedo?
Poseidon is a Russian nuclear weapon currently in development that is a blend of torpedo and drone.

Moscow claims it is unstoppable by current nuclear defences, and could be used to destroy coastal cities or blow up aircraft carriers and their battle groups.

Poseidon is made up of a 65ft tube that is almost 6ft in diameter which can be carried by specially adapted submarines and launched like a torpedo.

Once launched, it acts like a drone and can be remotely guided to its target.
Poseidon is thought to be capable of traveling up to 115mph which would give it the ability to out-run any torpedos that might be used to destroy it.

It is also thought to be able to dive to 1km, which would also put it out of range of current torpedos.

While the exact payload is unknown, the size of the nuclear warhead seen in leaked designs suggests it could have a yield of up to 100 megatons.

That would make Poseidon roughly twice as powerful as the Tsar Bomba - the largest nuke ever created - which obliterated everything within a 60mile radius when it was tested in 1961, shattering the windows of buildings up to 560miles away.

Buzhinsky also claimed on Russian state TV channel Rossiya 1 that the 'unstoppable' 6,670mph hypersonic missile Zircon was 'about to be used in combat operations' after testing.

'Of course, there are such means as Poseidon, which has been tested,' Buzhinsky said.

A smirking Solovyov responded: 'I would like to see how Poseidon works, I would like to see Sarmat in action.'
'Tsunami, tsunami, yes, tsunami,' replied pro-war Buzhinsky. '[If NATO] sends troops, it will end up with [us using] Poseidon, of course, and a tsunami. And 300 metre [985ft] high waves.'

Solovyov interjected: 'Great Britain will not exist then.' Buzhinsky, 72, agreed and insisted: 'Britain will definitely not exist.'

RT propaganda empire chief Margarita Simonyan added: 'The UK will not be there.' It would be drowned 'straight away', she said.

The propagandists' remarks follow a pattern that has developed on Russian state media since the Ukraine war began of threatening Britain with nuclear holocaust.
The threats are believed to be the result of the UK's staunch support for Ukraine, which became the first NATO country to announce it would send 14 next-generation battle tanks to the war-torn country in the form of Challenger 2 tanks.

Buzhinsky was angry that Putin's missile bombardment of Ukraine had not gone far enough.

'Of course, six missiles cannot make the tipping point,' he said. There should better be 60 [missiles]. Or even better 600.'

Putin sees the Poseidon as a key to his ultimate military supremacy over the West, it has been reported.

Another propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov has previously threatened that the Poseidon 'approaches the target at a one kilometre depth with the speed of 200 kilometres per hour [125mph].

'There is no way to stop this underwater drone,' he said on state TV last year. 'It has a warhead with a capacity of up to 100 megatons. The explosion of this thermonuclear torpedo close to Britain's shores will raise a giant wave, a tsunami.'

He said: 'This tidal wave is also a carrier of extremely high doses of radiation.

'Surging over Britain, it will turn what is probably left of them into radioactive desert. Permanently unusable for anything.'

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, says the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), relies heavily on funds generated by Nigeria Customs Service and Federal Inland Revenue Service.

Keyamo’s statement corroborated an earlier report by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited on July 20 that it would no longer remit money to the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee for sharing to the three tiers of government monthly.

The NNPC hinged the decision on its latest transition from a public corporation to a limited liability company, adding that all monetary arrears to the committee were owed by the old corporation and not the new oil company.

Keyamo made the statement at the unveiling of The Progressives Forum at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, on Wednesday.

“NNPC is no longer remitting money into FAAC. I hope you know that? All the money they earn goes into subsidies. So the government have to rely on revenue from customs, FIRS and others to pay salaries and carry out some other activities. Go and check the gas prices in the US and UK. They have gone up more than four or five times, even in oil-producing countries,” he said.

This is even as the spokesperson of APC Presidential Campaign Council disclosed that Buhari’s sympathy for the masses is the sole reason subsidy on fuel importation has not been removed.

According to him, the president has proposed to remove subsidy by next year after some level of palliative measures have been put in place to cushion the effect.

He said, “If it were to be another government in power, I am telling you there will be no subsidy. But President Buhari wants some measures in place to cushion the effect on the poor before it is removed. This is because there is no longer any justification to retain subsidy as I speak with you today.

“We are in government and cannot hide it from the masses. We just have to keep saying that subsidy has eaten deep into our economy. But it seems the sympathy that the president has for the poor that is still keeping subsidy alive. He feels there is a need to put measures in place to cushion effect for the poor before it is removed.

“That’s why he pushed it till sometime next year. It is not a secret.

“As against those who want a free market economy, we believe that there must be intervention in the lives of the poor and the middle class. This philosophy is quite different from what other political parties are offering. That’s why we have a lot of intervention programmes such as conditional cash transfers to the very poor. That’s the philosophy of Buhari and APC.”

Indonesia: Christian women forced to wear hijabs or resign from work, school

Twenty-four of the 34 provinces in Muslim-majority Indonesia impose repressive dress codes for women and girls, including Christians. Many who do not comply face consequences and bullying, according to women who spoke with an international human rights group.

"Nearly 150,000 schools in Indonesia's 24 Muslim-majority provinces currently enforce mandatory jilbab (hijab) rules, based on both local and national regulations. In some conservative Muslim areas such as Aceh and West Sumatra, even non-Muslim girls have also been forced to wear the hijab," reads a recent report from Human Rights Watch.

Millions of girls and women in the Southeast Asian archipelago have to wear hijabs, the female headdress covering hair, neck and chest. Hijabs are typically worn with a long skirt and a long sleeve shirt.

"The officials who issued the decrees contend the jilbab is mandatory for Muslim women to cover intimate parts of the body, which officials deem to include the hair, arms, and legs, but sometimes also the woman's body shape," the report says.

HRW interviewed more than 100 women who have experienced abuse and often long-term consequences for refusing to wear the hijab. The dress codes, inspired by Sharia law, have impacted not only schoolgirls but also teachers, doctors and other professionals.

Two of the women interviewed say they received death threats on social media.

"Since grade four, my stepmother forced me to wear the jilbab," Sheilana Nugraha, a 25-year-old Christian and graduate student at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, said.

She told HRW that she entered high school in 2012 and was asked to wear a headscarf. In 2013, she was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident and went to live with her biological mother, a Christian.

"My birth mother is Christian. My father is Muslim," she said. "I took off my jilbab, wearing short-sleeved shirts to school, although my mother still took me to Islamic prayer and study sessions. I was the only Muslim student who did not wear the jilbab at the school. There were Christian students, the number was small, fewer than 10 people in the school, and none of them wore headscarves."

"Once [in first year of high school in 2012], I was approached by a history teacher, a woman wearing a headscarf, who was also my neighbor. She scolded me, swearing that I 'wouldn't be successful without the jilbab and would go to Hell.' I cried, felt humiliated, and this was witnessed by many students, since it took place in front of the class near the whiteboard and the classroom door. I was shamed. I was crying, depressed."

Nugraha said that for four days in a row in 2012, three female teachers and a male Islamic teacher "bullied" her.

"The Islamic religion teacher did not make me cry, but he was sarcastic. The math teacher was also my homeroom teacher. My grades were affected, screwed up [by the resulting psychological distress]," she said. "The principal did nothing to protect me."

HRW urges Indonesia's Interior Ministry, which oversees local governments, to invalidate the more than 60 local dress code laws nationwide. While Indonesia's central government doesn't have the authority to repeal local laws, the Home Affairs Ministry can nullify local executive orders that contradict national laws and the Indonesian Constitution.

"President Joko Widodo should immediately overturn discriminatory, rights-abusing provincial and local decrees that violate the rights of women and girls," said HRW's Acting Asia Director Elaine Pearson. "These decrees do real harm and as a practical matter will only be ended by central government action."

Indonesia, which is home to the world's largest Muslim population, has 20.4 million Protestants and 8.42 million Catholics. Together, these two groups comprise 10.58% of the total population of 272.23 million, according to the latest data from the Directorate General of the Department of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Indonesia's Constitution is based on the doctrine of Pancasila — five principles upholding the nation's belief in the one and only God and social justice, humanity, unity and democracy for all.

But many extremist groups in Indonesia oppose Pancasila and target the Christian minority.

Churches often face opposition from groups that attempt to obstruct the construction of non-Muslim houses of worship. HRW previously reported that more than 1,000 churches in the archipelago had been closed due to pressure from such groups.

Shettima unveiling: We were promised N100,000, paid N40,000 – ‘Bishop’ claims

Facts on how the All Progressives Congress, APC reportedly hired Christian clergymen and women to participate in the unveiling of the party’s vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima have emerged.

Recall that Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, unveiled the former Borno State governor as his running mate on Wednesday in Abuja.

Footages of bishops dressed in cassocks who attended the event have flooded the social media amid controversy surrounding the same faith ticket.

DAILY POST reports that the ruling party is currently receiving backlashes from Nigerians for reportedly hiring fake bishops in a bid to claim support of the Christian community in the presidential race.

One of the ‘bishops’ who spoke with Peoples Gazette, Joseph Odaudu alleged that they were hired from a motor park.
According to him, the APC members promised to pay them N100,000 each.

He, however, lamented that he only got N40,000 instead of the promised N100,000

“They came to meet us at the car park behind Eagle Square and they promised to give me N100,000. They bought food for us and took us to another place where they gave us clothes to dress like Christian leaders and reverend fathers,” Mr Odaudu told The Gazette.

But after we finished, they only gave me N40,000 and another person said they got only N30,000. I don’t know why they changed our agreement because they said they had N100,000 for us.

“I am a Christian and I am supporting Tinubu but I hate when people lie and fail to deliver on their promises,” he added.

However, the Tinubu Campaign Organisation, TCO, had debunked the reports of fake bishops, saying they are clerics without big names.

TCO, in a statement by its Director of Media and Communication, Mr. Bayo Onanuga declared that the bishops were not hired.

'We’re proud of killing him': Christian convert who led Muslims to Christ killed in Eastern Uganda

NAIROBI, Kenya — Three men reviling a convert to Christianity for leading Muslims to Christ in eastern Uganda killed him on Sunday, a witness said.

Simolya Latifu of Molu village, Kasasira Sub-County, Kibuku District was slain with a sword at about 7:15 p.m. at a swamp near Molu, the witness said. Latifu was 47.

Latifu had left an evening service at Christ Discipleship Worship Center in Molu at about 6:30 p.m., and three witnesses saw a motorcycle and then heard wailing and calls for help at a nearby swamp at 7:15 p.m., one said.

“The killers were condemning him for converting Muslims to Christianity,” the witness told Morning Star News. “We hid ourselves in a thick bush.”

The witnesses were able to recognize the alleged assailants as Ali Buyinza, Muhammad Kamunyani and Jamada Walyomba, he said.

“We saw Buyinza cut him on the head with a sword, and thereafter they left,” said the witness, unidentified for security reasons. “We remained there for about 30 minutes, and then we took courage and slowly went to see the slain man and discovered that he worshiped with us at Christ Discipleship Worship Center.”

They informed church Pastor Emmanuel Muzei and filed a report with police at about midnight, he said. Officers and area residents went to the area early Monday morning and confirmed that the body was that of Latifu.

“Angry Christian residents from Molu village flooded to Molu village swamp to mourn the death of their beloved convert from Islam who had been going from one church to another testifying about how he converted to Christianity,” Pastor Muzei said. “His testimony was an encouragement to many Christians in my church and led many to Christ. We have lost a dynamic evangelist.”

Police arrested Buyinza, taking him to Kibuku police station amid tight security as residents sought to kill him, Pastor Muzei said. Buyinza told police, “We warned him to come back to our religion and gave him several opportunities, but he turned a deaf ear — we’re proud of killing him,” a source said.

Officers were still hunting for the other two suspects. On Tuesday, angry Christians from eight villages set the homes of suspects Buyinza, Kamunyani and Walyomba on fire, area sources said.

Latifu is survived by his wife and five children.

He converted to Christianity in June 2019 and then fled opposition to Lira District after leading several Muslims to Christ. Believing Muslim extremists had given up looking for him, Latifu had returned to Kibuku District in February, Pastor Muzei said.

Area Chairperson John Emuga of the Anglican Church of Uganda in Molu said he grieved after seeing Latifu’s body.

“We request residents to support the family of the late Latifu, and that all the assailants be brought to book,” Emuga said.

The attack was the latest of many instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented.

Uganda’s constitution and other laws provide for religious freedom, including the right to propagate one’s faith and convert from one faith to another. Muslims make up no more than 12% of Uganda’s population, with high concentrations in eastern areas of the country.

Nairaland GeneralImmigration Issued 625,000 Passports In Five Months, Says Aregbesola by Rightmania(op): 12:29am On Jun 22, 2022
Immigration issued 625,000 passports in five months, says Aregbesola

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has said the Nigeria Immigration Service received over 750, 000 applications out of which a total of 625,000 passports have been issued to Nigerians since the beginning of the year.

He added that many of those yet to get their passports were a result of the failure of applicants to provide their correct data and could not be contacted because they patronised touts.

The Minister stated this at the rollout of the enhanced e-Passport for Delta and Edo States, which was held at the Passport Office Headquarters, Benin, Edo State on Tuesday.

These were contained in a statement by the Minister’s Media Adviser, Sola Fasure.

The statement partly read, “Our enhanced passport is the real deal in passport making. Today’s event is unique in many ways. The most important is making the enhanced e-Passport available to the good people of Edo and Delta States. The enhanced e-Passport comes in various categories, including the 64-page-10-year validity passport which is quite convenient for frequent travellers. It is a product of the latest technology in passport administration and issuance.

"This year alone, we have received about 750,000 applications out of which we have provided 625,000. The difference could have been due to many reasons, including failure of applicants to provide the correct information about themselves and matching their data with NIN. We could not contact them because they applied through touts who provided their own addresses or wrong ones altogether. But 625,000 is a huge and unprecedented figure, in less than half of the year, by any stretch of the imagination,” the Minister stated.

He also said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) was worried about the hassles Nigerians go through in securing the passports.

He said, “President Muhammadu Buhari’s charge to us is explicit. Make life easy as much as possible for every person you have to relate with and remove every hurdle hitherto in their way of getting business done.

“Last week, President Buhari expressed concern on report that some Nigerians, especially those abroad, were unable to obtain their Nigerian passports. I share this concern as well.

“I am asking therefore that the NIS do everything within its power to make this a thing of the past. Every Nigerian desirous of the travel document should be able to collect it within the stipulated time, without any stress whatsoever,” .

CrimeHow Arabic Teacher Allegedly Assaulted Nine Pupils Sexually In Lagos – Nurse by Rightmania(op): 12:18am On Jun 22, 2022
How Arabic teacher allegedly assaulted nine pupils sexually in Lagos – Nurse

A nurse, Oluchi Nwoke-Okoi, on Monday told an Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court how an Arabic teacher, Farouk Adam, allegedly fingered his nine Islamic pupils, ages seven to 13 years.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Farouk is facing a nine-count- charge bordering on sexual assault.

Nwoke-Okoi, a registered nurse and midwife, while being led in evidence by the State Prosecutor, Olufunke Adegoke, said she was a staff of Women At Risk Foundation and had 15 years of experience in midwifery.

The witness told the court that she attended to nine survivors and conducted vagina examinations on seven of them after their mothers brought them to the WARIF centre on February 20, 2019.

“The survivors and their mothers were brought to the centre by police officers. We took time to question each of the survivors and also conducted a vagina examination on them.

“Seven of the survivors said that the defendant, who is their Arabic teacher, on several occasions, inserted his fingers into their vaginas.

“The eighth survivor said the defendant only touched her breast while the ninth survivor told us that she was afraid to attend the Islamic class after her sister told her that the defendant inserted his fingers into her vagina.

“Vagina examination was carried out on them. Based on their histories and the vagina examination, the result shows an absence of hymen. [The} conclusion is suggestive of sexual assault of a minor,” she said.

The witness told the court that the youngest of the survivor was seven years while the oldest was 13 years.

In cross-examination by defence counsel, A.O. Okonkwo, Nwoke-Okoi said she was certified by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, adding that the vagina examination she carried out on the survivors was not outside her practice.

She further said that vigorous scratching could not tamper with hymen.

“I have a license to practice as a registered and certified midwife and the vagina examination I carried out is not outside my practice.

“Laceration of the vagina means bruises, injuries or scars on the vagina. In some cases, when the vagina is tampered with, there may be a laceration or not.

“In the case of sexual assault, laceration can be seen when the survivor struggles or when penis, fingers or object is being forced into the vagina.

“In the same vein, the hymen cannot be intact when the finger, penis or object is inserted into the vagina. It is not in my power to decide whose fingers penetrated the vaginas of the survivors and I disagree that scratching can tamper with the hymen,” the nurse said.

NAN reports that the prosecuting counsel informed the court that the witness was the last prosecution witness in the case and prayed the court to order the defendant to open his defence.

The alleged offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, (2015).

Justice Abiola Soladoye adjourned the case until October 5 for the defendant to open his defence.

CrimeThose We See Attacking Us Are Armed Fulani Men, We Will Not Call Them Herdsmen by Rightmania(op): 11:24pm On Jun 18, 2022
The people we see attacking us are armed Fulani men, we will not call them herdsmen because they don’t have cows —Kaduna’s Adara community leader, Maisamari

The National President of the Adara Development Association (ADA), Awemi Dio Maisamari, speaks with Tribune’s Northern Bureau Chief, MUHAMMAD SABIU, on recent terrorist attacks on some communities in his area where 32 people were killed and a ‘mysterious’ helicopter that opened fire on his people.

Three years after the death of your paramount ruler, a new chief has not been appointed. What is the problem?

Since the death of our first-class paramount ruler, there has been a worrisome chain of events. After he was buried, the Kaduna State government came out with a gazette saying that the Adara chiefdom has been scrapped. Interestingly, that action had been taken before our paramount ruler died. That is to say that even when he was alive, the chiefdom was no longer in existence. They kept the decision secret until after his death. That looks very suspicious to us. The reason for that, we just do not understand. We have been asking questions. We have been trying to engage the government to discuss the issue but government has been rebuffing us.

We had no option but to take the matter to court. We have been in court on the matter with the Kaduna State government since January 2019 but the government has been using delay tactics. For three years now, this matter has not been heard. They would bring one objection, the court would rule in our favour and then they would bring another objection. That is how the case has been going. We feel that they are objecting to the court rulings because they are afraid of losing.
The law was passed in October 2021 and they are attempting to implement it. When they know the other case is still going on and they were the ones frustrating it. As far as we are concerned, it is injustice on their part to say that we should be law abiding when they are not. About 17 communities joined us to challenge the new law in another court in Kafachan because we felt the law scrapping our chiefdom did not follow the due process.

Who is now in charge of affairs in Adara community?
As far as Adara community is concerned, we recognise the leadership of the Waziri Adara, Bawa Magaji, because, according to the guidelines for the operation of Adara chiefdom, he is the next in command to His Royal Highness. As far as we are concerned, he is our paramount ruler for now.

The security situation in the country is very worrisome. What do you think is the cause?
I have said it before and I will continue to say it: we don’t have security problems in Nigeria but what we have are political and leadership problems and they are manifesting in various ways, including insecurity. Our primary problem, our fundamental problem in Nigeria is leadership failure.

Secondly, we have political problem because we have not got our politics right. The political arrangement we have in the country is not fair and is breeding a lot of problems. So, security problems in the country are manisfectations of leadership and political problems.

What do you think is the solution?
People are clamouring for the restructuring of Nigeria. To put it more properly, we have to renegotiate our existence as a country. Today in the country, we have those who are not feeling at home and we have others who are saying everything is okay. That tells you that there is a problem. Those who are happy and insisting that the status quo should remain are the cause of the problem because they are benefitting from it.

So, we must renegotiate Nigeria. We must discuss at a roundtable. The last attempt to discuss the country during Goodluck Jonathan’s era did not succeed. To our surprise, the government of the day has failed to amend even the peripheral changes that were discussed at the conference. That tells you that there are people who are happy with the current situation. Otherwise, why should there not be fundamental changes as a result of what is happening. So far, all the changes that have taken place are cosmetic, superficial. So, people who have refused to allow for these changes should be blamed for the problems of this country.

The first religious crisis in Kaduna broke out in Kasuwar Magani in the 1980s and it was in your area. What is the situation now in the area?
The causes of these crises are well known to the authorities. The authorities have information from the various committees and commissions set up to investigate these crises. They also have intelligence reports from security agencies. Concerning the first ethno-religious crisis you were talking about, including the one that is still happening, it is just a matter of social injustice. We have a situation whereby people are being oppressed in their own homeland. People came and settled in an area and they were accepted; they feel at home, having been recognised as indigenes, but the next thing is that they want to take over your land.

They want to take control; they want to dictate everything that happens in the community; they want to dictate who gets what. With this kind of attitude, there can not be peace.

Our point is that there is so much injustice in the Nigerian system that if anybody claims they cannot see it, it means they have been compromised. The indices of the injustice are so glaring.

On the recent killings in your area, what really happened?
The latest attack was on the 5th of June, 2022. The attack happened in a village called Unguwar Gamo on a Sunday afternoon. People had come out of church service and were relaxing when a large number of bandits arrived on motorcycles with AK-47 rifles. They started shooting and chasing people into the bush.

We have been living with incidents like this but the situation is getting out of hand. We cannot understand why people would indulge in such barbarism.

Before the latest attack, there was an attack in April on Takura village, near a railway station. We are getting fed up.

Recently, bandits attacked Unguwar Gamo, Dogo Noma. Then they went to Unguwar Sarki, all in the same area. When the neighbouring villages realised that they were going from village to village, they decided to take precautions.

The bandits went to Maikori village but the people were prepared for them. They hid their women and children in the bush. The young men stayed behind and defended their village. When the bandits came, they engaged them outside the village.

They didn’t enter the village?
No, they didn’t. But when the exchange of fire was going on, a helicopter arrived at the scene. We thought the security agents operating the helicopter should have a proper aerial view of the environment and distinguish between the two sides engaged in the fight. We expected the helicopter to recognise the terrorists who are always in army uniform with a large number of motorcycles. Some of them were wearing black clothes and holding AK-47 rifles.

We expected that the security agents would definitely know who were terrorists and who were locals trying to defend themselves. But to our utmost surprise, the helicopter opened fire on the natives.

So, the natives were now faced with combined fire from the bandits and the helicopter. That forced the locals to retreat and flee. In the process, some got injured. That was when the terrorists entered and destroyed the village. Today, only a handful of structures are still standing in the village.

What is the situation now?
There is still tension. People have fled their homes. Inhabitants of settlements along the roads from Kachia to Crossing, to Idon to Kufana to Mararaban Kajuru, have relocated because of the onslaughts of these bandits.

Most of the displaced people are staying with relations and friends whose villages are not affected. We don’t have a culture of relocating to schools, as others do, and wait for the government to come and assist us.

From previous experiences, the government does not help. We have been experiencing these attacks since 2013. Many of our villages have remained deserted; nobody dares to go back there because they have been taken over by the terrorists.

Lately, there have been reports of the presence of Ansaru terrorists in Birnin Gwari and Giwa local government areas. Are they present in your locality, too?
What I will tell you is that we are being targeted by terrorists, whatever else you may choose to call them. The people we see are armed Fulani men. We will not call them herdsmen because they don’t have cows.

We don’t believe these are herdsmen because even the Fulani among us are also victims. They come and kidnap people, including the Fulanis living among us, and rustle their cattle.

I told you earlier that a village, Takura, was sacked in April. The village came under fire because they resisted cattle rustlers. So, we don’t know whether it is Ansaru or ISWAP, or Boko Haram, or Fulani militia. As far as we are concerned, they are all terrorists.

We have been calling them terrorists but the government was saying they are not terrorists. But they have finally agreed with us. Whoever is carrying a gun illegally, going from village to village and attacking peace-loving people is a terrorist and he should be treated as such.

The government is in a better position to know whether the terrorists are Ansaru or Boko Haram. All we know is that terrorists are all over us. The government always tells us that they are overwhelmed but we don’t believe them because if they truly are overwhelmed, they ought to seek help.

Nairaland GeneralWATCH: Arab Shepherds Attack Jewish Farmer by Rightmania(op): 8:06am On Jun 17, 2022
WATCH: Arab shepherds attack Jewish farmer

On Wednesday, a Jewish farmer received a report that Palestinian Arab shepherds entered his field in Har Hebron in Judea. The farmer came to drive them away from his field and the shepherds proceeded to throw rocks at him and beat him with a cane. The farmer had to be taken to hospital.

“Crime-breaking Arabs and radical anarchists have received a tailwind from the false ‘settler violence’ campaign that has been funded by foreign countries,” said Matan Jerafi, field coordinator of the Zionist NGO Im Tirtzu.

“This could have a very bad ending if we do not wake up. We must remove the rioters from the area and not allow them to instigate violence in the field.”
