I know Samchi applied 12 or 13th of Dec and he has not heard from them yet. No update on background checks. @Samchi, any progress? Am surprised paper route is taking quite sometime now. What is CIC doing? @Realme4u is there any update in your background check? Did you do medical upfront? Realme4u: |
What!!!! I am a dead!!! June till January ?? This is crazily unfair. CIC is just doing to us what we did to ourself (Naija). Come to think about it, which country's OWP takes this long like ours? I randomly checked processing times for several countries; it was just Naija that is this bad. Shame!!!! arrJay: |
Lol......I should interpret my Moniker? Samchi2014: |
I have used this Twitter info to know when applications are being processed. My question is why can't Canada in Lagos and/or Accra use such medium too rather than leaving people to their Application processing time that returns nothing but 31weeks >>>. Is this a way of treating Africans like Africans? Come to think about it, what the hell is ones application doing for more than 8 weeks in a Consulate? What exactly are they reviewing? Applicants genealogy? What exactly is our diplomats doing for her people? Isn't it time they change Canadians application to 31 weeks too? Isn't it supposed to be reciprocal? Thinking about this tears me up.

Big one!!! Congrats to you and your wife!!!! Snappyfingaz: |
Markab, its easy to ask Samchi2014 to chill because he asked question concerning his application. But I don't blame him asking since people have reported application approval within 2 months (Online even leading the chart). So its normal to get worried about his own application processing timeline; although worrying doesn't change anything. Simply put, its normal!!! Samchi, have there been any update on your background check and eligibility? Markab: |
No problem with asking questions. However, it is better to read through discussions on this thread. Such will give you a wider understanding of the OWP process as no matter what I tell you will be as "packaged" as that. Then if you have specific questions that needs clarification, surely other persons here (myself included) can help out. I hope you understand. Cheers!! Popowaa: |
Congrats to your fiancee. I advise you guys get married and then you apply for OWP. Unlike the US that has a fiancee visa program, am not sure if Canada has such. As for an agent, you don't need it unless you really need to spend the money then I can be an agent for you. ![]() Popowaa: |
Well, we all know that none of us here is a VO, so nothing we say here completely applies; we are just predicting. From your profile, you surely applied for the right visa this time as I know 99% of persons whose spouse is either study or working in Canada that applied for a visitor visa are usually denied. About your sponsors, it is good you are partly a sponsor. However, since your brother is a co-sponsor and lives in the UK, the VO might need ties to home country to show you wouldn't stay back in Canada when your OPW visa expires just like your brother in the UK (Not sure how he lives there now). Even though they know that almost everybody who went to Canada via OPW visa might apply for the EE and stay back (which is what they want), they just want you to prove that (at this time), you convinced them that you will return to Nigeria. If you had added your landed and other properties documents, I think you should be fine. Like I said, I had just predicted. Anybody in the house who has anything to add? Consultant Seun your opinion is needed!!!!! Samchi2014: |
Hahhhhaa.......Seun is now the CIC representative on Nairaland. Na joke though. Samchi2014 from the look of things, you should be expecting from them anytime from now (Since you applied in December). As I know turn out rates of recent have been really fast (Online application leading the way though expect paper applicants aint giving updates anymore). Just to guide in predictions, Is this your first application?, Did you do medical upfront?, Are your sponsoring yourself? Is your dependent working or studying? Samchi2014: |
Thanks Seun. That makes sense and follows normal application processing procedure. I have only heard of background check for PR application where the applicants work and other related documents are verified. Even LinkedIn profile, employer is contacted, and other work experiences are evaluated. I never heard about that for OPW so I was curious to know what that meant for OPW. Thanks once more seunopeyemi: |
Please can someone respond or clarify me on this background check stuff? Samchi2014, wealth360, anybody!!! Seunopeyemi did you get any stuff on background check? Rijo02: |
Congratulations. What a wait time. But finally, it worked out good. Enjoy!!!! lucyIya: |
What do you mean by background check. I never heard of that before now. Can you please clarify? Samchi2014: |
Congratulations........Can we say that online is now the way to go? Or does it have to do with the December fast processing that was claimed by someone. I meant, someone said CIC processes December applications quickly to clear their desk for the new year. Is that what is going on or something else? seunopeyemi: |
Wow.....That is amazing. I know such are bound to happen. But I know from average processing time that have been reported here, paper seem to be faster than online. Still a good one to hear. Congratulations to your friend. Snappyfingaz: |
Am not sure what's going now. But generally, paper route has shown to be faster than online with reported feedback rates of 2 - 12 weeks but can still wait till the whole processing time they indicated (31 weeks). Getting approval might be tougher via paper route (as those VO's have lived in Nigeria or Ghana and have seen how we value ourselves (shithole) hence they treat our applications with the same shithole mind set) compared to online. But I think you will hear from them very soon unless things have changed. When exactly did you submit in December? Samchi2014: |
Please house, I am still interested in getting an explanation for this days effect on the interest rate. Can someone be kind enough to answer. It must be a basic question but I still need it as I don't know. I will appreciate you. Thanks dotcomnamename: |
Hello, Please can anyone explain if there is any effect of TB tenor days (eg, 91 or 80 or 67 days) to interest rate. Eg, Is 91days at 12% better than 67 days for 12%?From basic simple interest, what is the effect of the time? Thanks |
Can you please clarify? Acidosis: |
Am actually curious to know how you were able to get 12.18%. Is the interest not the difference between the Principal (5m) and the amount debited (excluding the charges)? Please respond!!! olujaidi: |
From my calculation: Stop rate (%) = (Face value invested - Tbills amount deducted)/Face value invested This gave a stop rate of 2.89% and completely doesn't make sense. I advise you discuss with your account officer for clarifications. Goodluck gogedda: |
@dotcomnamename Nice update. Please can you confirm from your account officer how long this offer will last. Like is First bank running out of 87 days TB for secondary market sell? I would appreciate if you can give a response to this but if not possible, I can understand. Thanks dotcomnamename: |
Hi guys, Nice work here... Please I use GTB, Skye, and First bank. Are there any of those that I can walk in for a TB (secondary market)? Or even a financial house that is selling TB in the secondary market. An immediate respond will be appreciated. Much thanks |
iamosamede55:Thanks for your reply.....However, there is no UCI number as the application was paper based. |
Hi Guys, Its been quite some time here. Please I have a question about GCMS. What does File number mean? Anybody who knows should just please let me know. Thanks |
slimmy2005:Doing alright sir. How you? |
Hi, I have been a silent observer on this thread but used to be active in the U.S student visa when I applied for my U.S visa in 2014. I am currently completing my MSc in the U.S and will be going for my PhD in Canada. Just received my passport today and would like to share my experience with all applicants especially those intending to apply outside of Nigeria. 17th May: Submitted my online application Documents submitted: • Study permit form (IMM1249E) • Family information form (IMM5645E) • Admission letter with funding • Passport data page • Digital photo • Letter of Explanation: My offer was conditional cos I am yet to finish my MSc. Since I have applied for graduation in summer, I requested the graduate school to write a letter stating that it will be conferred this summer. 19th May: Biometrics in Atlanta. 20th May: Update on my MyCIC (Biometrics) I later found a Los Angeles study permit document checklist which stated that I needed to have submitted an immigration document to shows that I am legally permitted to reside in the U.S since it’s not my country of citizenship. Also other information like explanation for travel to Canada, income slip, etc. And it was actually stated on the checklist that failure to submit all those would lead to a refusal of the study permit. Seeing such information was disturbing cos I don’t want a hustle given that I am currently focused on my thesis. I spoke with friends in Canada and some said it doesn’t matter while others advised I send the omitted documents. I was kinda hesitant to send them cos I read on the CIC website where they said that applicants don’t need to send additional documents that they will contact applicants if they need additional documents. But remembering that one of my friends (studying in the U.S) was refused a visitor’s visa to Canada cos he didn’t submit his I-20 made me conclude that I rather submit the omitted documents and it becomes surplus than get refused and start all over again. 4th June: Sent a case specific enquiry explaining the reasons for the omission of the immigration documents of which I attached my I-20, driver’s license, U.S student visa, and I-94. Days after I already sent the omitted documents, I was kinda worried about not getting any correspondence from them. I had expected they would have contacted me for my passport so as to roundup the processing in 4 weeks (Study processing time in the U.S). I found Gboyega’s post here, contacted him and we talked about his experience with the CIC moving from the U.S to Canada. 14th June (Exactly 4th week of my application): No reply. It disturbed me the more so I started planning on emailing them just to remind them that its past my processing time. But I decided to give them some time probably the day of biometrics is what they actually count as the 4th week. 16th June: No reply. Nothing!!! So I drafted an email, using my university email with my research assistant position signature just to convince and/or confuse the reader. 16th June: I received an automatic acknowledgement of the email I sent which is usual. But within 30 mins, I received another email acknowledging the documents I sent via case specific enquiry. For my mind, I was like, so you guess were just waiting for a prod to start acting. I actually thought they will approve it the next day, Friday, (Akuko) but it didn’t come. I said ok, Monday, but it never came. Whoa!! Well, I just had to remove my mind from the CIC guys to focus on other important things. 21st June: 11:32am ET (8:32am PT), I got an email saying I should check my CIC account. I was already sure it was a passport request. I just had to follow the procedures so I don’t omit any stuff anymore. Actually, the process of sending passport was even more complex than I thought. I assumed I would just send it to the Visa office not knowing the VAC will come in. (If I am asked to say, this doesn’t really make much sense). The procedure according to VAC was to send my passport alongside consent letter (2), $30.59, the passport request letter, and a return waybill. Funny enough, I wanted to write a check and send all documents to them immediately. But calling the VAC to confirm I was in the right track, they said I can’t send a personal check. It’s either money order or some other payment method. And I would need to copy the money order and send the copy of the money order alongside my passport to their office in LA while the payment should be sent to their locker room in Utah. Smh!!! 21st June: Sent all necessary documents to the appropriate locations with USPS Priority mail (2 days delivery). 22nd June: Update email on MyCIC. 22nd June: Approval email. Reading through the approval, it stated that the visa have been fixed on my passport. Bear in mind my passport never delivered to the VAC Los Angeles not to mention the Visa office. 23rd June: Passport delivered in VAC. Waiting for a receipt email from VAC but none came. Then I called VAC and was told it will take 48hrs for them to update my package. However, I got a passport receipt confirmation from VAC at 4:53pm PT same day. 24th June: Passport in transit to Visa office (tracking from VAC website). 24th June: Passport received by Visa office----------in consideration. Then I was wondering why the system is so messed up. How can they be considering an approved application? I was even told it takes 10-15 working days to get passport back. I shouted Chei!!!! Despite approval……Canada diariz god ooo. 29th June: Second approval email. (MyCIC). 29th June: Passport processing completed-------------in transit to VAC. 30th June: Passport processing completed-------------in transit to applicant from VAC. I actually wanted to receive my passport before Monday, July 4th Independence holiday. But then my waybill was never activated via USPS. Speaking with VAC guys, I was given several wrong information about the dispatch of my passport that I started wondering if they lost my passport (not actually the visa cos I know it’s already mine but my passport). 30th June: 5:24pm PT USPS tracking showed passport picked up. 2nd July: Delivered to my apartment mailbox. And I was like finally!!! I am sorry this was really long and might be boring to even read. However, I think it is needful I give every detail cos someone will need it. Words to keep in mind: Be courageous and most importantly, worry less. It is difficult but worrying will never expedite the process. Apply early enough……..e.g., if your coming for Fall, apply as early as April. Having time to yourself helps a lot. And to achieve this, you need to apply to the school of your choice early too. Get the admission and your visa application documents ready to go. Most importantly, since it takes even longer to process in Nigeria, the best you can do is to submit all required (even the unrequired ones that will convince the consular) documents so as to avoid unnecessary delay in processing your application. For applicants living outside Nigeria, you can definitely apply outside Nigeria once you can prove your legal right to stay in the country you reside. Hopefully the processing time will be shorter than in Nigeria. In all, I wish you all success in your pursuits. |
slimmy2005:Slimmy.......Nice advise but no to the bolded. Haba!!!! |
slimmy2005:Slimmy I am doing alright. How about you? Wait a sec, am kinda curious. How did you notice my presence here cos I have been off Nairaland for about 2 yrs now? |
wiseman2392: @ Rijo02,Great! Chemistry is awesome and can easily help you diversify in various fields; academic or industry. Well you can get assistantship if you commence communication with a prof(with ongoing research) in any above average schools chemistry department. I said that because cost is part of consideration and thats many of my classmates (Americans) made me understand. MSc has fewer assistantship opportunity especially if your letter of recommendation is not trusted unlike Phd which is 98% guaranteed. So you might choose the Phd option (4yrs if your fast) or even try the MSc. All the best. |
wiseman2392: Good day everyone in the house, I got this site from a friend and i believed its fantastic. I am a starter and i want to know much about how am going to apply for admission in US easily. This should also tell me more about GRE and TOEFL, what is the maximum score that can guarantee admission? And also i want to know if it is compulsory i must do these exams. Another big question is where do i start from to gain admission into schools in US that can give me scholarship. I will appreciate if i can still get like 5 schools that give scholarship in USA. Thanks i will be very glad to hear from u soonestWiseman welcome to NL. Though I think the elders here should have welcomed you better. Anyways, you know what you want which is really a nice one and since thats the case, go for it. Google will be your best bet cos nobody will do skol search for you. If you google well, you will find out a whole lot which people cannot help you with. GRE and maybe TOEFL are vital for scholarships or assistantships so if you really need it, you must sit for the test and perform well so as to stand a better chance. What is your field of study? I might give you a clue. Best of luck. |
?? This is crazily unfair. CIC is just doing to us what we did to ourself (Naija). Come to think about it, which country's OWP takes this long like ours? I randomly checked processing times for several countries; it was just Naija that is this bad. Shame!!!!
