EnlightenedSoul: Well, I'm Somali, OP. It seems to me like you've come across some particularly rude, zenophobic folks, but yes, we do tend to be an arrogant, prideful and stubborn people in general. However, that arrogance is a self-arrogance that is in no way directed particularly to West Africans or any one group across the world. It's something that's static, and oftentimes may not necessarily denote any underlying racism at all. It's just how we (or many of us) are, I guess. I myself am by no means racist or ethnocentric (at least not detrimentally anyway) - I've always been immersed in a diverse group of friends and I've certainly date/d outside my ethnicity, and don't treat people any differently, etc, but even I have it in me. And I daresay it's actually been a useful trait to have at times.
You should note that the hateful threads you see on here are from a one-man-army under different usernames, and that many of us have come here to denounce him specifically, including myself. I wish the moderators would take heed so that you, at least, don't have to see that bullshyt on your own site, and I've expressed this many a time, but it appears they think it trivial despite it being explicitly against the forum rules. As for the rude ones in your life, you need to stand up to them if/when they mock you else they won't respect you. Sometimes it just takes standing up for yourself. You're at school, I assume? This was a VERY good responce, I commend your point of view as it lets me know there are Somalis on this site that talk agaisnt the trollism that nairaland has been experiencing from a one-man army (aka Ajuran and under other troll names).
Its quite obvious that our Nairaland Mods still show no care for these racial insults & violating several of the site rules from that somali individual, especially in our culture subforum. It seems our particular mod Fulaman198, has grown a liking for this somali troll (due to the fact that the troll compliment the Mod's fulani background) The Mod has refused to ban and delete his threads even when he's been prompted by a dozen other people about this same troll !
Hopefully this changes, so people on here won't grow to hate somali people they barely know about culturally.

Yeah I know how trolls can negatively effect you. At one point I kept seeing a lot of hate against Somalis from African Americans, Caribbeans and other Africans who didn't even live around Somalis. Then I noticed that there were Somali losers on their websites who were insulting them for no reason.
This whole thing started way back in the day when African Americans started to fetishise East African women. I remember a thread from like 2002 on a UK based Pan-Africanist forum where some African American guy was degrading his own women and praising Ethiopian and Somali women. All hell broke loose as you would imagine.
Insecure Somali trolls started attacking him. African American women and women of West African descent began insulting East African women, EA women got involved. That thread was literally hundreds of pages long. It also spawned numerous similar threads.
The egos of HOA women were naturally inflated. Insecure HOA men began to attack WA men and this crap spilled into every black forum lol.
Add to that the fact that race and DNA forums began to fixate on Horners and many whites began to differentiate between Horners and West African, claiming that the former were mixed and not really "Negro". Again this caused plenty of petty conflicts.
omg that makes so much sense now, AA men did fetishize on East-Africans back in the day and still a bit today. it always confused me how West-Africans got into the spark. Somalis in America tend to isolate themselves away from AA, but in the UK it's a little different. But with Nigerians in Nigeria, they barely had idea of the HOA association when it came to culture and relationship, that came out of nowhere, so to be honest the AA started this loool what a mess, but we have to deal with it and clean up this mess somehow
