I used to be a farm manager of a very large fish farm (over 80,000 capacity)in badagry since 2013 but now I've established my own....almost nothing is hidden to me when it comes to fish farming. Over Stressing of the fishes!!!
When transporting from far if you are not using oxygen filled bag... Then you must transport very early in the morning and make sure you get palm kernel (eyin ope) or red oil with you to reduce stress on your way.
Finally don't feed them 24hours when they arrive at ur pond. This will guarantee you 90% survivability

Crisis alert!!!! I have almost lost more than halve of My post fingerlings stocked(3300), recorded morality is 1,400 as at this morning. Have been treating them with tetracycline, chlorophenicol and salt for the pass three days without feeding but I was told the issue might just be the water difference from where I got the fingerlings(Ipaja) and where my farm(Offin in ikorodu) is. Am planning to use a water test kit today to test the water and also restock later this week but getting the post fingerlings from a farm few km from my farm. Pls advice and contribution is need. AM WORRIED BUT NOT DISCOURAGE

Step 1:Stop there feeding for 48hrs
Step2:Decongest the pond and serve them fresh water(if you use concrete pond- buy VitaminC reduce their water to barest minimum then add it to the water for 45min before filling the water up) if you use earthen pond you will need to harvest them and treat them in a small container as above.
Step3: Check if the feed is not stale or not well formulated(avoid use of blood meal etc. )

Note: Crack head are genetic and hereditary diseases. How to prevent it is early detection (blood stains on the fish head) increase Vit. C input in your feeds. .... Oya my other Ogas... Come and help this farmer o

I am given 3 options to sterilize the tarpaulin pond
1. Full it with water and add salt then leave it for 2-3days before draining the water and pumping fresh water
2. Get poultry waste in sac, tie the mouth of the sac and put it in the pond filled with water for 4-5days before draining the water, removing the poultry waste in sac and pumping fresh water in the pond
3. The use of palm oil to rub the tarpaulin wall n bottom of the pond and leave for few hours before Rinsing off detergent and water then pumping fresh water into the pond
@my Oga farmers in d house. Pls advice is needed in selecting an option. And I have already prospond the stocking of my pond till next week so as to make such I get this part of sterilization of the pond right

Hi Gurus.
I'd like you guys to advise me on what to choose for my Fish farm aeration. Between;

1. Air Compressor. 195L/min. 38kpa pressure
2. Air Blower. 190L/min. 6kpa pressure.

I saw a video on YouTube (by "Mr FISH" of a Farm using Option 2. But am confused as Option 1 has higher pressure and can serve through an expansion.
NOTE: Image on a chair is option 1, the other is option 2.
Am stuck with deciding which is better for my 3ponds System (12×9×4) tarpaulins, and I like suggestions to factor in a 300% capacity expansion (concrete pond).
