Once again I need the help of the experienced gentlemen and ladies to guide me through this issue...In the last two days I have lost seven fishes to an unknown reason, the only physical symptom I see is some of the fishes in the pond are losing their barbels.. The pic attachment shows today's loss..What could be the possible issue (they are 2.5 months old from post fingerlings)

Get two males and one female.. One of the male is for back up just incase the first male Milt is not enough..

At the moment no mortality recorded but there fins and tail are looking reddish. Do I need to treat the pond?

No cause for alarm I think they are growing bigger with limited space.. Try increasing the water level..

Has anyone ever tried rearing catfish in such container? Would the fish survive?

You can't rear catfish in that drum, better to get a regular geepee tank.

1. pH 6.5 isn't TOO low
2. Are you sure the fishes are matured, or they are just table size?
3. The soda ash u used was probably too much. U shud add little, then test ur water till u arrive at desired pH.
4. Getting results this season require GRACE and experience.

I saw two weak ones, brought them out and noticed that they where bleeding around the genital area.
As in serious bleeding o.

I seperate them, they eventually died!

i hope no more mortality of late..

Some people prefer fries because it is cost effective, you will know their history from the early period, also for reselling at fingerlings especially those that do not have hatching facility.

They are just getting to week three.

I will advice you bring out all the fish.. Wash the pond with salt solution.. Get floxinor to treat..
