Sixfiguresmart: Reminds me of a topic I read sometime ago, where a married guy gave a BJ for a job and couldn't go through with the final act. I think you should have reported him to HR, it would be a ground for suing him/Chevron. Now that you've been let go, it will be more difficult to prove except you have evidence of inappropriate messages or CCTV footage of his advances at the lounge. 91 Likes 7 Shares |

CrownOfClay724: Definitely a low when compared with someone like Tidjane Thiam, or NOI. I'm sure he must have had a private sector career before becoming minister of finance. Even without US assistance, he should be able to get himself an average (investment) banking job having managed billions of dollars. |

I'm usually surprised when I read stories like this. Perhaps because of the notion that politicians in developing nations usually "stash" adequate resources for at least the next three generations. When very senior executives or high ranking politicians struggle after they leave their posts, they should be able to make a good living without partaking in any fraudulent activities. There are usually opportunities and problems they must have come across in their jobs that can be solved profitably, except they have zero entrepreneurial inclination. |
Career / Former Finance Minister Becomes Uber Driver In Washington DC by RoddyMan(m): 8:54am On Mar 20, 2022 |
Days before Afghanistan fell to the Taliban last August, Ashraf Ghani, the Afghan president, was “welcomed” to the United Arab Emirates. He was alleged to have taken with him $169m, from his country’s treasury. Six months on, Khalid Payenda, once Ghani’s finance minister, is driving an Uber in Washington DC. “If I complete 50 trips in the next two days, I receive a $95 bonus,” Payenda told the Washington Post, from behind the wheel of a Honda Accord. The 40-year-old once oversaw a US-supported $6bn budget. The Post reported that in one night earlier this week, he made “a little over $150 for six hours’ work, not counting his commute – a mediocre night”. The Post recorded Payenda telling one passenger his move from Kabul to Washington had been “quite an adjustment”. He also said he was grateful for the opportunity to be able to support his family but, “Right now, I don’t have any place. I don’t belong here and I don’t belong there. It’s a very empty feeling.” Afghanistan faces a humanitarian and economic crisis, assets frozen and cut off from international aid that would require recognition of the Taliban government which replaced the US-supported regime. The Post described Payenda’s experience in late 2020, when his mother died of Covid-19 in an impoverished Kabul hospital. He became finance minister after that. The Post said he now wished he had not. “I saw a lot of ugliness, and we failed,” he said. “I was part of the failure. It’s difficult when you look at the misery of the people and you feel responsible.” Payenda told the Post he believed Afghans “didn’t have the collective will to reform, to be serious”. But he also said the US betrayed its commitment to democracy and human rights after making Afghanistan a centerpiece of post-9/11 policy. “Maybe there were good intentions initially but the United States probably didn’t mean this,” Payenda said. Payenda resigned as finance minister a week before the Taliban seized Kabul, as his relationship with Ghani deteriorated. Fearing the president would have him arrested, he left for the US, where he joined his family. “We had 20 years and the whole world’s support to build a system that would work for the people,” Payenda said in a text message to a World Bank official in Kabul on the day the capital fell, quoted by the Post. “All we built was a house of cards that came down crashing this fast. A house of cards built on the foundation of corruption.” Source: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/mar/20/afghanistans-former-finance-minister-is-now-uber-driver-in-washington-dc 1 Like

Business / Re: John Ekpa: GTB Should Comply With Court Judgement, Pay Innoson Or Risk Takeover by RoddyMan(m): 11:08am On Dec 03, 2021 |
Innoson can never take over the running of the bank. All Plc's are required to make provision for judgement debt in their books in the event that a court decision is awarded against them on active litigations. For a bank that declared over N200bn in profit in 2020, one would expect a senior lawyer who has done minimal research to make smarter utterances. 5 Likes |

The thieves in uniform cover their name badges with High Visibility vests, use code names to address themselves and collect cash only, so that you cannot have evidence against them. Imagine the idiots saying they are being insulted by begging them to accept N20k! What salary is being paid to LASTMA staff for their officials who stand on the roads to own a 2016 RAV4? A Lagos-based businessman, Adeolu Oyinlola, has accused some policemen attached to the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, aka task force, of impounding his vehicle over an alleged traffic offence. PUNCH Metro gathered that Oyinlola’s driver, Sunday Emem, was driving along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway on Saturday when he was accosted by one of four policemen around the BOC Gases area for allegedly passing a uni-directional road (aka one way). According to Oyinlola, there was no indication on the road that it was uni-directional, adding that efforts to explain to the policemen that there was no such indication proved abortive as they became hostile and aggressive. Our correspondent, during a visit to the area on Monday, observed that there was no signage on the road as traders confirmed same. Speaking to our correspondent on Monday, Oyinlola said his refusal to part with the money demanded by the policemen made them impound his car and book him for a court appearance on Monday, which was later postponed to Thursday. He said, “We were coming from the DHL side of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and we didn’t have any business on the service lane of the Isolo-Apapa Road, but because they had blocked the Airport Road, we decided to turn to the road leading to Bolade-Oshodi to get to Ikeja. “When we got to the BOC Gases area, a policeman came out and stopped us that we passed one way; we told him that there was no sign stating that it was one way, but the policeman insisted that it was one way. “The four policemen forcibly entered the vehicle; one of them chased my driver to the back seat and took over the steering. I came down and opted to walk to their office because I could not squeeze myself with them inside the car because of COVID-19. “They brought us to the back of their office, trying to negotiate and I think it’s their mode of operation; they will first bring you to the back of the building and if negotiation breaks down, they will take the car into their office, which was what they did to us because we refused to part with money. They took the car into their compound. When I told them that there was no sign where we were arrested, they became belligerent. “This kind of attitude is wrong and frustrating; the government will allow people to be extorting money from residents and you don’t have anybody to report to for this organised racket to stop. What they are doing is that they are scamming people and it is with the complicity of the government. How can you be ambushing people without any sign and you’re saying they are taking one way? “We want this scam to stop; they impound people’s cars and collect loads of money and just to inconvenience us, they asked us to come to court this morning (Monday); we got here and they casually told us to come on Thursday for no reason whatsoever. I want justice and my vehicle released. I will go to court to demand damages.” The task force Public Relations Officer, Femi Malik, promised to investigate the incident and get back to our correspondent. He said, “I am aware that our men will not go and stand in a place that is not one way and arrest anyone, but I need to find out if this is true or not. I will investigate and get back to you.” https://punchng.com/one-way-lagos-task-force-impounds-car-on-road-without-signage/

Crime / Class Action Suit Against LASTMA - If You Have Been Extorted by RoddyMan(m): 4:59pm On Aug 17, 2021 |
Nairalanders, I came across the article below, and because last week at the same location mentioned my wife's car was commandeered in similar fashion, I think a class action suit against LASTMA, their GM, LASG and police collaborators should be done. If there is a lawyer willing to take this up, as well as other nairalanders who have been extorted in a similar way by these thieves in uniform, we should be able to put a stop to it. The Lagos state government is losing billions annually to them (I say billions because they on the average collect between N100k to N150k from car owners who fall into their trap. Multiply this by the average of between 10 to 20 cars daily). And they prey on the fact that people would most likely not want to appear at their mobile court and still be forced to pay a fine, Its a racket that probably involves bosses at LASTMA and the Police force. |
Culture / Re: The Racism Hypocrisy by RoddyMan(m): 9:55am On Aug 10, 2021 |
Very valid points @ OP. I think there is that bit of racism/ wanting to be better off than another group of people in Humans. You would see blacks born in the UK & US consider them selves better off than those who have recently emigrated or speak in an accent that is African. Just like you mentioned, even within tribes and states, it pans out. I'm believe the "caste" system in some parts of Igbo land are still existing. I don't believe it would ever stop, perhaps that is why some people want to ensure that their offspring are not at the lowest rung of the ladder in their society by marrying fair skinned or white skinned spouses if they can. |

In business, there are no guarantees. You may, or may not make a profit. It might take years for your pure water factory to break even. My recommendation is that you finish your house. The amount you usually pay as rent can be invested into any business you wish. |

Foreign Affairs / Trump Spends $3m For Recount In Wisconsin, But Biden Gets More Votes! by RoddyMan(m): 2:27pm On Nov 28, 2020 |
A recount in Wisconsin’s largest county demanded by President Donald Trump’s election campaign ended on Friday with the president-elect, Joe Biden, gaining votes. After the recount in Milwaukee county, Biden made a net gain of 132 votes, out of nearly 460,000 cast. Overall, the Democrat gained 257 votes to Trump’s 125. Trump’s campaign had demanded recounts in two of Wisconsin’s most populous and Democratic-leaning counties, after he lost Wisconsin to Biden by more than 20,000 votes. The two recounts will cost the Trump campaign $3m. Dane county is expected to finish its recount on Sunday. Overall, Biden won November’s US presidential election with 306 electoral college votes to Trump’s 232. Biden also leads by more than 6m in the popular vote tally. After the recount ended, the Milwaukee county clerk, George Christenson, said: “The recount demonstrates what we already know: that elections in Milwaukee county are fair, transparent, accurate and secure.” https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/nov/28/joe-biden-gains-votes-in-wisconsin-county-after-trump-ordered-recount 1 Like 1 Share
