What lessons can we learn from his journey to Presidency? No one knew him 2 years ago. I wish we could have a smart, independent, younger candidate in our 2019 presidential elections. I remember casting my vote for Pat Utomi, and wish he had run again in 2015.

Foreign Affairs / Robert Mugabe Could Contest Presidential Election As A Corpse by RoddyMan(m): 9:48pm On Feb 17, 2017
Zimbabwe’s 92-year-old president, Robert Mugabe, should run “as a corpse” in next year’s election if he dies before the vote, his wife has said.

Grace Mugabe accused some ruling Zanu-PF party officials of plotting to take over from her husband and said that if he dies supporters should put his name on the ballot to show their love for him.

“If God decides to take him, then we would rather field him as a corpse,” she told thousands of supporters at a rally in Buhera, eastern Zimbabwe. She spoke in the local Shona language.

The president, who will be 93 on Tuesday, has scaled back his public engagements, while his wife, who is 51, has become increasingly visible in politics.

Mugabe has been in power since white minority rule ended in Zimbabwe in 1980 after years of war. A big celebration is planned for him on 25 February.

Grace Mugabe warned associates of her husband from the era of the guerrilla war against white rule that they were also too old to take power.

“Anyone who was with Mugabe in 1980 has no right to tell him he is old. If you want Mugabe to go, then you leave together. You also have to leave. Then we take over because we were not there in 1980,” she said, pointing to herself.

Grace Mugabe has professed fierce loyalty to her husband, previously saying she would get him a wheelchair and push it for him so that he can continue to rule.

Mugabe has declared he wants to live until he is 100 and rule for life, and has complained about ruling party factions jostling for influence as a succession battle looms.

Politics / Aisha The Female Boko Haram Fighter by RoddyMan(m): 6:24pm On Feb 09, 2017
As seven abducted women and four children were being taken deeper into Sambisa forest, Aisha Bakari Gombi received a call.

The voice was familiar: an army commander asking her to assemble a group of hunters to track them down.

The 11 had vanished earlier that day after a group of Boko Haram militants attacked their village, Daggu. Three local people were shot dead and cars, houses and food stores set ablaze.

Daggu is a half-hour drive from Chibok where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted in April 2014. Both villages are in the region of Borno state in north-eastern Nigeria, which has become all too familiar with such attacks by the world’s deadliest terrorist group.

Boko Haram know me and fear me
Aisha Bakari Gombi
Bakari Gombi grew up near the Sambisa forest, where the extremists still operate despite a military offensive last year that destroyed many of their major camps. She used to hunt antelopes, baboons and guinea fowl with her grandfather. Now she hunts Boko Haram.

There are thousands of hunters in the region who have been enlisted by the military on an ad hoc basis. But Bakari Gombi is one of only a handful of women involved and she has become a heroine for hunters and local people alike. Her gallantry has won her the title “queen hunter”.

The first rescue mission in Daggu failed “because Boko Haram was heavily armed. But we saw where [the girls] are being held,” Bakari Gombi explains the morning after. “We could free them if the military would give us better weapons,” she adds, eyeing the double-barrel shotgun on her lap.

Like many in the rural regions of north-east Nigeria, Bakari Gombi is Muslim but also believes in traditional spirits. One of her rituals is to douse fellow hunters with a secret potion to protect them from bullets.

The 38-year-old leads a command of men aged 15-30 who communicate using sign language, animal sounds and even birdsong.

“Boko Haram know me and fear me,” says Bakari Gombi whose band of hunters has rescued hundreds of men, women and children.

The Nigerian army began recruiting women in 2011 and, while the numbers remain low nationwide, in this region some women have very personal reasons for joining the counterinsurgency. One of those is Hamsat Hassan, whose sister was kidnapped by Boko Haram two years ago. She has not been seen since.

“I couldn’t fire a gun when I asked to join the Hunters’ Association in a town also called Gombi, but all I knew was that I wanted to avenge the people who abducted my sister,” she says.

Hassan’s grandparents look after her seven children so she is available to hunt whenever her services are called on.

While most of the group are volunteers who juggle their commitments with other jobs, Bakari Gombi and Hassan are among the 228 male and female hunters who were recruited on a more formal basis last year by a local government official.

But by October the 10,000 naira (£25) allowances paid to the hunters had stopped. Two months later most of the team had pulled out of the programme, though some, including Bakari Gombi and Hassan, remained committed to the fight.

Bukar Jimeta, the commander of the Gombi Hunters’ Association, says though Boko Haram is regrouping in the surrounding areas, the collapse of the programme and lack of funds have left them unable to tackle the growing threat.

The hunters are not the only ones experiencing financial difficulty. In December a group of Nigerian soldiers uploaded a video to YouTube in which they appealed for equipment, food and water.

The army also faces a corruption scandal at the highest level. The former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, is due to stand trial for allegedly stealing £1.8bn allocated for weapons to fight Boko Haram.

The hunters believe their tracking skills are vital to the army’s counterinsurgency efforts, no matter how under-resourced they may be.

“I’m waiting for a call authorising me to go back to rescue those women and children from Daggu, but I don’t know if they will give us more arms,” says Bakari Gombi. Whether or not she receives the weapons she requires, she vows that her mission to root out Boko Haram from the forest in which she grew up will continue.

The amounts quoted in here are old. The quoted figures were from a Thisday Newspaper report about 2 to 3 years ago. I'm certain she would have got significant increases. And her promotion to CEO for Rest of Africa too means she will be earning in USD, effectively multiplying this quoted number by at least 2.

Politics / You Have The Power To Do Something! Sign Petition To Change The NASS Structure. by RoddyMan(m): 2:28pm On Oct 12, 2016
In recent times, Nigerians have increasingly expressed discontent to the structure, composition and pay of the National Assembly (NA) and many have called for the scrapping of the NA, changing its status from fulltime to part time or restructuring it into a unicameral system.
The NA was established by and under the Constitution. Its structure, powers and functions were spelt out by the Constitution. The Constitution provides that it can only be amended through the NA. The NA will definitely not start any process that will negatively affect the powers and privileges of its members. So, asking the NA to scrap itself or even change its status from full time to part time is like urging a thief to punish himself.
Section 14 of the Constitution provides that sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria. Therefore, I call on the Federal Government to organise a referendum on the National Assembly. The referendum should give Nigerians the option to choose between full and part time NA and the option to choose between unicameral and bicameral legislature and whether it is the House of Representatives or the Senate Nigerians want to keep.
Again, let me admit from the onset that, to my knowledge, the Constitution doesn't contemplate referenda on these issues. However, my sense of it is that Nigeria is a democratic state, the Constitution itself claims to be a product of the WILL of the people and provides under Section 14 that sovereignty belongs to the people of Nigeria.
So, it is only fair that the will of Nigerians through referendum be allowed to override the constitution. This petition was initiated to put pressure on the Federal Government to organise a referendum to give us a voice on what kind and type federal legislature t we want: part time or full time? Unicameral or bicameral? Do want to continue with the House of Representatives or the Senate?

Tough one. If she hadn't told you about the sex with her boss earlier, It would have been a clear cut decision to leave her.

Are you certain you love her enough to marry her? Are you strong enough to go against the wish of your family and damn the consequences?
This might mean not receiving any form of support in marriage plans if you decide to marry her.

Since she came clean, and you forgave her, its up to you if you don't mind raising another man's kid. I really do hope you have a steady source of income to take care of her and the baby.

Has she informed her boss about the pregnancy?

We regret any inconvenience. This is a Sea Freight order that was shipped on Feb. 19, 2015 and usually takes 8 to 10 weeks to deliver. We are expecting the shipment to arrive in April. After which you will be updated. Thank you.

Hi, I got notification of the arrival of my shipment on Tuesday the 31st of March, and a proxy picked up on my behalf on Thursday the 2nd of April. Unfortunately, 33 items out of 60 items shipped are missing. I have sent a mail to that effect, and I'm expecting a prompt response.

Hi Shippyme Customer Service, I booked a shipment on 19th December last year S1412199445. I sent a mail on your platform since Monday inquiring about the status of my shipment, I'm yet to get any response. The earlier questions I had asked were given vague answers - That they were being expected and my account will be updated when received. I interprete this to mean: go relax somewhere and whenever we collect it, we'll let you know, even if its December.

Can you please let me know the exact reason for the delay and when I should expect to receive them?

Best Regards,

Politics / Re: How I Engage With APC Supporters And Win Them Over Offline. Part 1 (Corruption) by RoddyMan(m): 4:08pm On Jan 15, 2015
@ Matthewbrigss: 1st -Naming and Shaming corrupt politicians and civil servants is a big tool for deterrence. If you do not send people to Jail and embarass them publicly (I personally would have preferred execution), they would only be encouraged to get more sophisticated and find other loop holes to take advantage of. Making it more difficult to embezzle is a grossly inadequate strategy.

2nd - His body language, such as granting pardon to people like Alamaisegha means he is not really sincere about fighting corruption. http://www.channelstv.com/2013/04/09/us-describes-alams-pardon-as-set-back-to-fight-against-corruption/

3rd - You mentioned 427cases by the EFCC, I would be interested to know how many of these cases relate to cases of civil servants/ politicians as against private cases like 'Yahoo boys/419' or fraud cases in private companies. I'm very sure that more than 80% will relate to the latter group.

4th - Why has he been unable to strengthen the Judiciary to enable them close cases of fraud against public officials? I believe he lacks the will power/guts to fight the corrupt members of his party/cabinet that helped him get into his current position. If his current wealth/position is as a result of the support of a corrupt environment, how can he fight it?

Foreign Affairs / Re: Nigeria Causes Palestinian Statehood To Fail At UN Security Council by RoddyMan(m): 2:25pm On Dec 31, 2014
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/31/us-israel-un-reject-palestinian-resolution-nigeria-security-council

Summary is :Binyamin Natayahu and John Kerry called Jonathan to influence the change of position. The resolution was requesting that Isreal vacates occupied territory within 3 years. There would have been some incentives promised by the countries to make Jonathan change Nigeria's position. As it were, was co-operation between Nigeria and Isreal as regards arms trade, agriculture and technology despite the pro-palestine stand. This favour is more likely for the US, and I wont be surprised if they resume purchase of oil from Nigeria starting in January, Nigeria's economy is going to get worse if the current trend in the oil trade doesn't reverse soon, it will definitely not do Jonathan's re-election bid any good.

On Isreal, they are not really after a 'negotiated resolution'. If they were, it shouldn't take one year to mutually agree with Palestine on a border (Negotiations have been going on for more than 15years). They stand to gain more by prolonging the occupation, as they can encroach on more land gradually over flimsy excuses like throwing stones, and make it seem that they are giving up more of what they have forcefully taken.
