gunther6: Let me use this opportunity to address the flight issue to best of my ability.
When booking your flights it is better to book at night and at least 90 days before your date of departure, a dynamic pricing model aimed to maximize profit is mostly adopted by airlines. With little exceptions it goes like this any flight you book 6 months + before your departure will be expensive, between 6months -60 days you get a good deal, <30days you start paying a premium roughly equal to or greater than what 6 months plus pays, there is also a seasonal variation , holidays , peak travel priced in (some nonsense I learnt in Transport economics at OAU )
I repeat do not use third parties/agents/websites to book your tickets they bring zero value to the process and profit heavily without doing nothing. Use third party sites to check for flights afterwards go to the official site of the airline to book your ticket. A particular member of this house overpaid by 40k+ for a ticket I also purchased heading in the same direction.
Also in my own opinion, Naira is currently pulling a cedi/bolivar stunt on our behinds, if you see a ticket that appears cheap, oga book the fluctuations of the currency means you have zero guarantee it will be cheaper tomorrow and I have news for you nearly all Qatar airlines for July/August have just 4 seats or less left, it is all on their site, don't feel like an early bird.
Lastly be wary of prices quoted in Dollars, even if the site of your bank shows a naira equivalent, Nigerian banks through unbridled corruption and unchecked rent seeking are currently on a hot red fraudulent streak don't trust them, go into the bank pay over the counter.
That been said the cheapest airline currently as long as you are not going to Houston is Emirates (186 - 220 economy) Qatar ($915 - 1250) a member of the house just informed me Standard bank is accepting exact naira equivalent, Ethiopia is cheap too as long as you are going to JFK or Newark and finally Arik (I would rather trek). If I remember anything I will add Thanks for educating us Gunther6. I appreciate |

dellapi2: Hello gurus. Please my question is this: my masters program (mph) is for 2 years but my i20 says normal duration of program is 36 months. What's the ideal response in the ds 160 application that asks intended length of stay? Your intended length of stay is what your I-20 states. I think your school gave 36 months as the maximum length which is reasonable just in case your prog gets extended in case of unforeseen circumstances |

BobbyCreep: Who are these guys misleading other people out here?
Please NDDC gave just 5k last year as TP. And it might remain the same this year due to our recent economic times.
As for these supposed questions, I feel sorry for you guys following this guy.
Last year I made to the interview with information that got to me quite late and I scored 43/50. It might sound funny but honestly I don't know what or who to believe anyone. Is there any PQ? I don't know. Are all these people who claim to have the PQ for real? I don't know Is it the same person disguising with multiple usernames and trying to sell PQ that we are not sure of its authenticity? Is the invite even for real? We are presently in a world vital information is accessible to hackers.... (just a thought) Someone, please respond. |

professorgome: The test you are about to write is called BRAIN TEASERS and has different parts as listed below:
1. General Questions = 94 2. Logical Reasoning = 131 3. Quantitative Analysis = 305 4. Verbal reasoning = 164
The above is from the software. In all these they will select 50 to 60 questions at random. Because questions are selected at random, the question in my number 1 might be your number 60 as the case may be.
Now look at the ratio, out of 94+131+305+164 = 694. You will be required to answer only 50 or 60 from the 694 questions selected at random. That is why so many candidates fail.
What is your chance of making it to the interview and collecting the 10k transport? You need to see all or at least more than 60% of these questions.
I have arranged all these in order. If you need them drop your email or number, I will tell you how to get it from me. My date is 4 June, goodluck at the exam and interview. Thanks for the heads up professorgome. I didn't know this is how it usually goes. Please kindly share the resources with me: Dimeji_stunt@yahoo.com Best in your prep too! |

ronkypinky: Visa approved on Friday for6.30am Lagos embassy even though it wasn't my doing... It was just brief and an interview of grace cos the V.O denied everyone he attended to before my turn. For that day, I was the second person he approved. I am a silent follower but have gained alot through this forum, God bless you all for your contributions and advise so far especially MsNas for every of her effort. She is the only friend and sister I know one on one. The transcript goes thus: V.O- Good morning Me- Good morning (with a smile) V.O- Can I have your passport Me- (Passed it to him) V.O- So where are you going? Me- To Ball States University, Indiana for my masters degree V.O- Course? Me- Accounting V.O- What course did you study for bsc? Me- Accounting V.O- Have you paid your sevis fee? Me- Yes (Passed the receipt) V.O goes through it and says it's not reflecting on the system yet He further asked when I finished school? Me- 2011 V.O- What have you been doing? Me- Went for my NYSc in 2012 which ended in 2013, ever since then took up a job with Wema Bank V.O- (Kept nodding)Who is paying? Me- My dad The V.O finally said I will be approving your visa so u get to pick it up on Thursday cos ur sevis fee is yet to reflect. And left immediately with a smile cos I wasn't even drilled as prepared as I was.
Thanks for your contribution so far on this forum ... Please I need info on anyone going to Indiana or who lives in Indiana.
Thanks Congratulations |

@dimejidude, I totally agree with you on that one. I must confess that I stuttered through my answers. The question took away the confidence that was building up in me as soon as it was asked . (lol).
We must be intentional about the little details but there are times when those little details just elude us in a strange way.
I was glad he didn't allow me continue on the meiosis defn (I would have blown it...lol)... I wonder if VO knew the actual thing sef. Lol |

Visa approved today. Here is my transcript :
vo: hi, good morning me: good afternoon
vo: can i have your passport…and your i-20 me: ok, here they are (vo types for few seconds)
vo: so, what are your studies plans? me: i intend to go for my doctorate degree in physiology and neurobiology….this will expose me to in-depth research skills in liver physiology and research methodologies used in liver research like co-immunoprecipitation, polymerase chain reaction….so i will be joining prof.xxxx whom i met here in Nigeria last year, in his research…(cuts in gently)
vo; do you have a bachelors degree or masters..or you are going straight to phd? me: I have a masters already
vo: where did you do your masters? me: university of ibadan here in nigeria
vo: so, phd in physiology, right? me: yes, physiology and….(cuts in)
Vo: what will this do for you? me: it will expose me with strong research skills needed..by identifying important genes that determine susceptibility to hepatotoxicity.., i will be able to fulfil my career goals. and i have two major goals: to come back to Nigeria and take up a lecturing job in one of our public universities. secondly, i intend to, on the long run, collaborate with research institutes like the national biotechnology development agency…(gentle nods and cuts in gently)
vo: so, this prof you mentioned is prof…? me: prof Bleep. I met him here in Nigeria during a conference..
vo: ok, prof Bleep (looking into his computer)
vo: can i have your..program..admission letter? me: ok, here they are (and he studied intently for a while, flipping through the 3-paged attached documents- offer and 2 GAship letters)
me: (filled the ‘awkward’ silence) the revised GAship letter was sent to me upon the realization that i had a masters degree…so the only difference is just the figure of the amount
vo: ok…. you have a bachelors degree in ? me: biochemistry
vo: so your biology must be very sound? me; yes
vo: ok, what is mitosis? me: it’s a biological occurrence that describes the division of cells. and the time taken for a complete cell cycle is 24 hrs…whereby a cell divides into 2 daughter cells and the multiplication goes on and on…
vo: what about meiosis? me: just like mitosis, it describes the division of cells…(cuts in)
vo: alright. you know, not so many people know these things..i just wanted to be sure…
vo: how will you be paying for your studies? me: i was awarded a graduate assistantship which covers full tuition waiver and offers a generous stipends. In addition, i am also in touch with my uncle who is willing to support.
vo: what does your uncle do? me: he owns a business here in Nigeria and he imports and sells building construction materials. i have his statement here as proof
vo: alright. you will need this to pick up your visa. here is your i-20 and documents. Me: Ok. Thanks
VO: From your i-20 (searched for the commencement date for about 5 seconds), you will not be permitted to enter the states before August since the start date is august 29. Me: ok
Me; (elated that it was over) when will i pick up the visa? vo: you will find the information on the sheet given to you.
me: ok. thank you vo: alright. have a good day
Thanks to all everyone in the house for your immense contributions and counsel. You all made it happen.
And so, my tiny little advice for potential applicants: it's okay to be nervous but do your homework well and have a convincing reason for wanting to go to the US. |
Travel › Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 9 by rogerdavid: 10:13am On May 19, 2016 |
sofadj: Prior Visit to Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic Dress: Bespoke native wear Prep: Didnt memorize any response, just read my SOP about 3 times the night before.
Was interviewed at Window 2 by a female with indifferent countenance
V.O: What are you study plans in the US sofadj: I intend to go to University of Maryland College park to pursue a Masters' degree program in public health. The program is to run for 18 months ...( I mumbled the ending part, she kept nodding while typing). After which I hope to have acquired sufficient skills to help play my part in reducung the burden of diseases on Nigerians
V.O: What do you do currently?.... I wasn't as coherent and fluent as it seems here, i paused, hanged, at some time while answering but I still went on. I was not over trying to make an impression.
MAIN ADVICE: Relax and talk from the heart. KNow your points but dont cram a speech.
SPECIAL THANKS TO AADEYI AND EVERYONE ON THIS PLATFORM Very impressive. Congrats |
