forgiveness:Thanks for the correction, sir. |
AustineJohn908:You're right, it's in Yenagoa, Bayelsa. My apologies. It's not a hotel though. It's the new headquarters building of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB). |
I don't just know why I like this picture. Imagine strolling down this road with one fine babe and a spliff. https://images.trvl-media.com/hotels/4000000/3490000/3487100/3487006/4d4699d1.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=1200&h=800&p=1&q=medium |
AustineJohn908:If you're referring to the Four Points By Sheraton, yes it is. |
COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY Most of us believe we lacked proper communications before the advent of the telephone, and lately the mobile phone. Nothing could be further from the truth. We had long distance communication technology centuries before Europe. Simple but also complicated, and highly effective. The Talking Drum We use talking drums for Owambe parties today. But do you know that the original function of the talking drum was long distance communication? And I don't mean rudimentary noises made from one village to reach the next. It was far more sophisticated than that. FAR MORE. The talking drum was used for individualised communication. Do you know that every Yoruba man who got trained in this science, had his own unique talking drum 'signature' which took advantage of the tonal character of the language. and could be used to transmit messages directly to him in words he could understand to a distance of up to 160 kilometres? He would equally return the messages. He would be trained in how to build a talking drum wherever he was, if he didn't travel with one, to send his response back to the sender, in words that would be clearly understood, using the unique 'signature' of the recipient. It was a kind of 'phone number', this unique 'signature'. Once the drum was beaten, you would KNOW it was for you. The message would tell you who was 'calling', what they wanted, etc. And what the caller's signature was. You would then respond, using that signature. This could go on over a distance of up to 160 kilometres. ctd. |
