Sports / Euro 2016: So Far, So Good... (le Rendezvous) by Rotdavdara(m): 4:21pm On Jun 29, 2016
Excerpts:
"Spain tried to come back. Pull one back. Draw level. The closest they came was from Gerard Pique, who drew a masterful reflex save from the great Gigi Buffon (who was in awesome form).

Add to Buffon the wall of defense akin to the Great wall of China that La Roja encountered. Defensive organization unrivalled. This wasn’t parking the bus. It was the Italian defense. It brought back the old saying that Catenaccio is the solution to the famed Tiki-Taka,
whose remains were definitely extinguished on the day."

Sports / Can Nigeria Make It Out Of The CAF World Cup Qualifiers' "Group Of Death" Alive? by Rotdavdara(m): 5:13pm On Jun 27, 2016
Excerpt:

Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria, Zambia. All of these countries in one group in a football competition.

If it was a normal football tournament where two countries could qualify, as a Nigerian, I wouldn't have been too worried. The Euro 2016 scenario, where a "Best Loser" could still qualify, would have been even more calming.

But you can imagine how skeptical I was, as a Nigerian, when I remembered it was a World Cup Qualifier and ONLY one team could get the ticket to, this time, Russia 2018.

I started to think: How could a team without a coach beat the likes of Algeria after the Nigeria - Egypt AFCON qualifiers experience? Cameroon? Can the Super Eagles even beat Zambia?

The topic was raised on my blog's forum. All (myself included), except one (out of 40), concluded that Nigeria could not make it out of that group and qualify for Russia.

The debate shifted to the possible positions Nigeria could finish in. The conclusion? Majority seemed to think Nigeria would finish either second or third.

What do you think? Share your thoughts.

Sports / Euro 2016: So Far, So Good... (after The Group Stage) by Rotdavdara(m): 2:20pm On Jun 24, 2016
The group stages of any football competition is usually the most boring part of that competition.

Have you noticed?

This is so true that, if you think it’s not, just cast your mind back to the UEFA Champions League group games you’ve seen.

You see?

Even the Copa America (Centenary edition), on-going in the U.S.A, has lived up to this expectation. Several boring games up until… erm, the final? (Chile thrashing Mexico 7-0 in the quarter-final and Argentina whooping USA by four unreplied goals in the semis don’t exactly count as exciting).

The dilemna of the group stages of football competitions.

But the case has been an entirely different one in this year’s European Championship.

As a matter of fact, it’s been so exciting in France that there’s been a whole lot to talk (write, gossip, tweet, facebook, instagram, whatsapp) about here, there , and everywhere. It’s been breath-taking!

Catching up with the fanciest of goals and the most-surprising of results has been quite the job. And as far as I can remember, the games have just begun.

Imagine what will happen in the Knockout round… (let your imagination run wild for a minute…)

So you see… the party in France hasn’t even started. There will be more last-minute, heart-breaking goals. There’ll be even more surprises, heart-aches and games tighter than before.

I know you can’t wait. I can’t too!

But, while we’re waiting, let’s look back at what happened in the Third Round of the Euro 2016, shall we?

So far, so good:...

Sports / Euro 2016: So Far, So Good.. by Rotdavdara(m): 8:55am On Jun 21, 2016
The European championship going on in France has had a lot of surprises. But the most surprising so hfar have been the goals.

Even though it's been a low-scoring tournament, most of the goals, when scored, have come in the second half (bettors take note). And for most of the goals scored in the second half, a majority have been scored after the 80th minute.

Late goals come only when games are tight. Tight games are the direct results of an encounter between two team who won't let up easily. Two really good teams (regardless of the name of their country). Two good teams full of players determined to make their mark.

This leads to a fantasy for the football fans: a certain air of uncertainty. You're not sure who's going to win. So this keeps you at the edge of your seat... till the last minute! And it's games like this that make football a great sport, loved by many.

So far, so good, it's safe to conclude, considering the above explanation, that Euro 2016 has lived up to expectation. Some will even say the tournament has surpassed their expectation.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Rotdavdara(m): 9:03pm On Jun 14, 2016
With the way Antonio Conte set up his team against Belgium, it's more than obvious that he will be a success at Chelsea. Maybe not an instant success but with time, he will bring the kind of steel-like defense he enjoyed wirh Juventus and Italy to the Stamford Bridge.

Sports / What Was Your Best Football Moment This Past Weekend? by Rotdavdara(m): 1:39am On Apr 13, 2015
Sometimes (most times), it is hard to track and follow most of the games played in Europe especially if you are a fan of football and not just a me-and-my-club kind of person. A lot happens in a jiffy (especially on Saturdays): goals are scored and missed; red cards, late goals and all. But thank God for the news and livescore apps and more.

Having said all that, I'd like to ask you: What was the best thing you saw in football this past weekend? What was that moment that left an indelible memory and will probably stay till the next weekend comes around?

I'll go first. Chelsea scoring in the 88th minute against QPR and Sevilla holding Barcelona to a 2 - 2 draw were my best footballing moments this past weekend.

What's yours?

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Juventus Vs AS Roma (4 - 0) On 22nd April 2012 by Rotdavdara(m): 1:18pm On Apr 24, 2012
AS Roma has been over-hyped this season by the Italian media. First it was Borini, the young Italian who having left Chelsea, began to rack in the goals for the 'Romans'. Then it was all about Totti and how he wanted to finish off his career with the team. And then some other news et al. From the scoreline, it's obvious---->> The Old Lady's headed for Italian dominance, once again. Milan fans might tell you otherwise, but I seriously doubt if Juve will let this slip outta their fingers yet again.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: UCL: Barcelona Vs Chelsea (2 - 2) On 24th April 2012 by Rotdavdara(m): 1:04pm On Apr 24, 2012
ChelseaFC is headed for the Camp Nou with a huge advantage. I'm of the opinion that this puts the Catalan giants in a more offensive mode; a mode you don't want to see this current Barcelona team play in; a more or less KILL mode. But Chelsea, and a handful of teams, are beginning to know how to handle 'El Mesias' and his fellow Blaugranas, a knowledge which will come handy tonight; a night which might prove to be one of the defining moments of Chelsea's 2011/12 football season.
Adverts / Paypal: A Payment Solution Gradually Waning? by Rotdavdara(m): 6:15am On Jan 06, 2012
Hey. How's it going? If you're the kind that is into one internet business or the other, you must have, at one point or the other, wondered why almost every internet business, company or group will choose Paypal over any other payment solution available. What kinda security do they have that others don't? What kind of service do they offer that others don't?? Paypal would have been dearly loved it was' open' to everybody; payments made in a jiffy, *no hassle* but some countries with the 'Internationally Recognised' Bad Belle tag has had their citizens' (or residents so to speak) participation completely denied, frozen out and, errmm, most of them rue the actions of their fellow countrymen. Despite the freezing out, some people have devised means to 'successfully' open an account (or accounts) with Paypal. Tutorials have been taught, lectures given n d word passed around: "If you can do this, you can have a Paypal account in no time." And, the lecture stops there. It starts and ends with the process of opening the account.
To an internet biz 'freshman', "Yeah, I can open an account with Paypal!!, Payment solution solved", Unfortunately- permit me to use a Nigerian as a case example- rather I say as a Nigerian, the story's just begun.

Nairalanders, my name is Rotimi. Thought I'd just scramble some stuff in my head about Paypal and their 'DOMINANCE' on the 'Internet-World' scene before I finally catcha a flight to dream-land.
