CareerRe: Talent Is Better Than Education by rotman150: 8:27am On Mar 29, 2013
Reading through this thread, am suprised that no one has actually defined education. According to dictionary.com, education is 'the act or process of imparting or gaining knowledge, judgment, and a level of intellectual maturity'. Also, it is the act or process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills, as for a profession.
From these definitions, education is not limited to the four walls of the classroom. Its not only in learning mathematics, english or physics etc, it also includes skill acquisition. A carpenter or tailor must have undergone apprenticeship which in itself is a form of education. Even musicians and entertainers must have been tutored in their respective arts by someone with more knowledge and experience. Messi has the skill no doubt, but he has a coach. Samuel Peter can fight, but he has a trainer. Someone who trains him and tells him how to do what he does better.
Even the so called 'college dropouts' received some form of education before dropping out. Its not the certificate that makes you educated. The certificate is just a piece of paper and mere formality. Gold in its raw form has little value compared to when it gets refined.
Talent is good, but education brings out the best in talent.
