coputa: The comparison you made here are faulty..what has okonjo iwealla contributed to the development of this country, fuel subsidy removal, that brought more hardship to nigerians. Genieveve the star actress has genuine wealth and fame, she has affected the youth positively, not these educated illitrates who cannot survive outside government.,i want to ask with all honesty that is there anything that obasanjo at his age has achieved that tu face hasnt suppased at his tender age...talent is the key.

OTHER PEOPLE MAY NOT HAVE ACHIEVED ANYTHING. NOT WITH NGOZI IWEALA. SHE IS BETTER THAN MANY OTHER PEOPLE YOU MENTIONED.

School is good my brother!

Think about all the stars you could imagine. Someone is writing their cheques.

Footballers, athletes, stars are employees. That's why when the "MAN" stops paying them..they go broke.

The grass always look greener from the other side

For every 1 good talent out there, there are thousands with similar talent that failed.
For every successful educated person out there, there are thousands with similar level of education that failed.

As you make your bed, so you lie on it. Just keep praying that providence presents at the
right place at the right time with your education or talent

@op you are right, but education does not stand or contend with TALENT.i always tell people education was made by man,and you would continually go for courses to met up with new discovery brougth by talent...and talent gets is updates from the spirit realm..noah was the first to build an ocean liner that conquered the greatest tsunami,i tink he went to cambridge..hehehe..education is suppose to perfect your talent, cos they were people there before you so to guide you and save time they wud educate you.

There's rarely anything new these days jsut like the adage "No Idea is original and there's nothing new under the sun." The true mark of greatness is to ensure continuity. How else can someone relate and synchronise previous experiences of others in order to effectively ply the intended path than without education. The greatest inventions sprawled through education, Papers and pens, etc even if you include music, have you ever considered who thought of reducing the boombox to an ipod?, I think the OP limited talent to that expressed in music and entertainment, but there's so much talent and much room for it to be expressed in education. The Afrobeat maestro, Fela educated his children in the art just to ensure his legacy lives on.
I think the OP is disillusioned, just as most nigerians, by not only attributing success but also economic importance to the amount of money someone has (flaunts). I'll leave this for you to figure out: If two persons (A & B) are to live for seventy years and A is a top musician and B say a top earning engineer, who would be richer in terms of wealth accrued at age 65? (*A average musician's career spans for about 8 years, more or less with the highest earnings coming between 3-5 years and the other years spent constantly seeking for relevance).
Entertainers earn a lot of money, astronomical amounts sometimes, but i feel it's similar to acquiring a huge loan at once to manage and make good for the rest of your life and family.

Talent is important but education is there to complement it. With talent you just need to work smart, have enough drive and focus to be successful and make your dreams come true. Think of the many college drop outs who against the odds are millionaires today.

A good example is Bill Gates who dropped out of Havard and now the Co-Founder of Microsoft, or Micheal Dell who dropped out of University Of Texas, Austin and is now the Founder of Dell Computers or Ralph Lauren who dropped out of Baruch College and now the Founder of Ralph Lauren Clothing.

Education does not mean success in life, it is how you use your education that makes the difference. Even the uneducated people who are successful in business are able to employ the best brains to work for them.

Reading through this thread, am suprised that no one has actually defined education. According to dictionary.com, education is 'the act or process of imparting or gaining knowledge, judgment, and a level of intellectual maturity'. Also, it is the act or process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills, as for a profession.
From these definitions, education is not limited to the four walls of the classroom. Its not only in learning mathematics, english or physics etc, it also includes skill acquisition. A carpenter or tailor must have undergone apprenticeship which in itself is a form of education. Even musicians and entertainers must have been tutored in their respective arts by someone with more knowledge and experience. Messi has the skill no doubt, but he has a coach. Samuel Peter can fight, but he has a trainer. Someone who trains him and tells him how to do what he does better.
Even the so called 'college dropouts' received some form of education before dropping out. Its not the certificate that makes you educated. The certificate is just a piece of paper and mere formality. Gold in its raw form has little value compared to when it gets refined.
Talent is good, but education brings out the best in talent.
