The level and standard of education is dropping in the country Day by Day,we can say this from the mass failure of exams that hppened consistently . Though the children have a large part to play for their success,we cannot entirely blame them. So this is why I think the children of these days hate school. BAD TEACHERS: If you compare the educational sector abroad to that of Nigeria,you will see that the teachers try to create an friendly environment,and make sure the children see them as friends they can trust,but here most teachers are only concerned about their paychecks. POOR LEARNING AIDS : Most of the schools across the country have little,poor or no learning aid. Learning aids are important for every child to learn well,infact it helps for easy remembrance during tests. POOR LEARNING STRUCTURES : All I can say is how do you expect a student to learn well when he is thinking about his aching buttocks,from sitting on blocks or when he is distracted by counting the number of raindrops his teacher is dodging. POOR USE OF ICT: This mostly has to do with the students,most students now spend almost 90% of their time on social networks,instead of using the internet to learn more about the topics they are being taught. CYBER CHEATING : Most students now instead of studying believe all sorts of scammers they find on the net promising them 'expos' for a 'little token'. Even here on Nairaland you can find some of them,and I try my best to alert the Mods to delete those sort of threads. Most of the time,these students get scammed but still continue searching for 'expos'.if laws can be put in place to close down sites promising expos, the educational sector would improve. Bad Management In Schools: yes,this point is also important,how can the proprietor of a school ask teachers to teach students during external exams?! Such people need to be jailed. This has caused so much havoc to the country that most youths these days cant defend their results. If these problems I have listed here can be tackled,I think the educational sector would improve. EPISODE 1 "Emeka, i don die today ooo..." That's comes from my friend Tade. He was a tall, fair boy with average physical appearance, One can't describe as ugly nor can you describe him as a handsome dude. Tade and i grew up in the same neighbourhood. He is a typical Yoruba indigen borned by an Ibo mother. I actually knew the cause of his lamentation, but i just pretends as if i don't knew the source of his grievance. "Na who kill u? What will a sane individual gain from killing a Moth like you?" i asked chuckling. "Emeka your papa! You are pretending as if u don't know what am taking of, If na you dey my shoe i no say u for don dey pee for your pant" He cursed, almost in tears. I just laughed at his grievance, Ofcourse why won't i laugh? I forewarned him of the danger forthcoming before he fails a victim to it. I know, I have been keeping you on suspense, Let me just introduce my self to you. My name is Emeka, am a third child a family of four. Two boys and two girls, I was from a lower class family, my father was a local palmwine tapper, whilst my ,mother a petty trader. Out of the four children in our family, My eldest brother who is the first-born Nkalu is serving as an apperentice in Kano, My elder sister Ada is staying with an uncle in Onitsha. So i was all alone with my parent and kid sister Nkiru. Am a student of Umuokoro Community Secondary school Enugu. Am in The Ss1 class, my best friend both in school and in the street is Tade, Fate makes it for us to be in the same class. Tade and i have been so close to the extense that people started calling us twins. Although, I know that there is no way i can be a twin brother to Tade, Despite that we are of the same age, Tade looks more matured and also taller than me and he have this heavily build structure that we his friend make jest of him by calling him Mike Tyson (former Nigerian Boxer). The only thing that i can boast of surpassing Tade is my cute face and shiny dentition accompanied with sexy dimples that ladies longed to see whenever i smiled. Going back to the story, My friend Tade stoled a fowl from one of the most quarelsome woman in our street called Ma' Ejide. Tade stoled the fowl the previous day and tooked it to a hideout where he roasted and ate it up, not knowing that their is an eye witness that saw him when he carried out those satanic act. Now, the eye witness have reported what he saw to Ma' Ejide and the woman is looking for him all over the street. Tade's worst fear was the fear of Ma' Ejide reporting him to his parent, he can't just withstand the almighty strokecane of his father. That have been the reason behind his agony. Though am even happy of his grievance because, his greediness and selfishness make him to consume the whole fowl all by himself without even caring to share with me his best friend. At the same time am thanking my stars that am not in his shoe, As he sitted ther lamenting am also cracking my brain inorder to come up with a idea on how to clear him out of his present mess. I later came up with the idea of him following me for us to go and apologise to Ma' Ejide maybe she should forgive my friend, and do him the favour of not revealing his evil act to his parent. We then set off to Ma' Ejide's house, If only we had known what would had be the outcome of the outcome of our jouney to Ma' Ejide's Compound, we would have forgeted about crossing there! |
