alexis:

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it.

NIIT markets itself well but doesn't live up to expectation. Indians are cheap, as a result, alot of good teaching staff always leave them and they end up hiring students and paying them peanuts; this will affect students learning.

My advice - buy books and read.
Google it
Join forums on the technology or product you intend to use.

exactly. niit is one big house of bullshit, man. omo those guys are wayo, it's so sad. i, too, was in that their scholarship programme last year. i was in their java class for a couple of months. what a waste of time and money. when u remind yourself that they are asking for hundreds of thousands in fees, and then u see the mediocre teaching , it's enough to make u vomit last week's breakfast, sha. i quit them one time, and i strongly advise against going there. don't blow your money on them.

Canonical Ltd, the commercial sponsor of Ubuntu, today announced it has partnered with LynuxTraining Sàrl to develop the first dedicated Ubuntu training courses for the 'Ubuntu Certified Professional' status. UCP is a training certification based on the LPI level 1 certification.

once they finish developing those training courses i won't mind getting certified, sha.

Computers / Re: How Much Do PC Speakers Cost? by rozilla(m): 11:03pm On Dec 21, 2006
those prices are on the steep side, sha:

your optical sony mouse costs #1000. mine cost me #800
your p4 amaxx casing is #7000. mine was #5,500. omo that is a whole 1k5 difference, man. damn!
you are offering floppy drive for #900. i can get one for 8
256MB DDR RAM for #5,000? i bought mine for #4,000
Computers / Re: How Much Do PC Speakers Cost? by rozilla(m): 10:23pm On Dec 20, 2006
i bought 380watts speakers from mercury for =N= 850. they're great grin

ishmael:

The guy probably needs something cheap.

omo na so. i'm currently on an old dell desktop P2 400MHz, 10GB, 128MB. i have a 20k budget to get me something a bit better. when obj's reforms finally grip, then maybe i'll get back to u on those quantum-engineered machines u mentioned above wink
plus i have no plans for getting on the vista bandwagon at all, to be honest. i'm looking to switch to linux as my primary OS and to use nothing more than Win2K when it's absolutely necessary.
Computers / Re: Price Lists For Hardware Parts by rozilla(m): 9:25pm On Dec 13, 2006
omo, i'm not looking for something with which to control military satellites and nuclear launchpads, man.
i was thinking more along the lines of computer village equipment, u know. 2500pds or even 350pds to spend on a computer, i'd be a contemporary of a whole 'nother level.
thanks, anyways sha. grin
Computers / Price Lists For Hardware Parts by rozilla(m): 10:48pm On Dec 12, 2006

Programming / Learning Ruby by rozilla(m): 3:29am On Dec 09, 2006
Ruby is an increasingly popular object-oriented programming language that i have recently started teaching myself. get with it. move into the future.
Computers / It Institutes by rozilla(m): 9:26pm On Dec 08, 2006
i saw these two adverts in the papers a few days ago from HiiT Institute and from karROX.

HiiT:
- Oracle: =N= 100,000
- MCSE: =N= 15,000
- Java: =N= 25,000
- CCNA: =N= 15,000
- A+/N+: =N= 15,000

there was no price list for karROX. what do u guys think of these two institutes, and IT institutes in Lagos, in general? any recommendations?
