Following the demolition of unapproved buildings in the llupeju area of Lagos, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has emphasized that there will be zero-tolerance for unapproved and haphazard building construction within the state.
This information was disclosed in a statement by the General Manager of the Agency, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, shared via the state’s Twitter handle on Monday.
Speaking during the demolition exercise Oki explained that the building in question had been identified by a team of its agency’s monitoring officers in August 2020.

A cross section of hawkers and beggars operating in the Federal Capital Territory have reacted to the arrest order made by the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB).
The Abuja Environmental Protection Board had recently announced that it is collaborating with security agencies to commence arrest of hawkers, corporate beggars and other illegals in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Director of AEPB, Dr Hassan Abubakar, made this known on Thursday in Abuja.
Reacting to this development, a sugarcane hawker who was arrested under pedestrian bridge by Zankli Hospital, Utako on Friday, said that they are being marginalized by the officials who frequently request for a particular amount to be paid to them.
The hawker who pleaded anonymous, said that he was arrested without his sugarcane wheelbarrow.

Anambra Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA) has revealed that the state government spends about N1.5 billion yearly on solid waste disposal and management across the state.

The Managing Director of the agency, Mr Amechi Akora, stated that the state capital alone generates more than 400 tons of solid waste daily, out of which only 30 per cent is collected.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, Akora said that other major commercial centres in the state such as Nnewi and Onitsha also generated huge tons of waste daily.

He said that reckless and indiscriminate disposal of waste along the roads and streets has led to blockage of sewage and drainage networks, adding that less than 10 per cent of residents of the state pay the annual sanitation levy.

Members of the taskforce on Environment in Delta State on Monday swooped on defaulters who had been dumping refuse indiscriminately.

The defaulters numbering over 21, were arrested in Uvwie and Asaba environs at the weekend and handed over to the police after they admitted their evil activities.

Investigation revealed that emptied pure water among others is indiscriminately dumped at every nook and cranny in the state, especially in Asaba and its environs.

But the task force in collaboration with Waste Management Board and Private Service Provider ( PSPS) said it has concluded plans for operation show PSP receipt by residents of Asaba and its environs including companies and organizations, adding that the state in recent times had been littered with tissue papers among others.

A Nigerian transformed 14,800 wasted plastic bottles as bricks by sand-filling them to build a house in Kaduna.
The director of a non-governmental organisation, Developmental Association of Renewable Energies in Nigeria (DARE), Engr. Yahaya Ahmed expressed his satisfaction for successfully completing the house attributing it to the collective effort of his organisation.
He said that the work will encourage recycling of waste materials, create jobs and ensure a safer environment in Nigeria.
Mr Ahmed explained that workers filled the plastic bottles with sand and linked them at the neck by an intricate network of strings to build the house, which he said is the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa.
He said, the house can be built by anyone with little finance.

Headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) are on fire, NatureNews reports.
NIS management in a statement on its official Twitter handle said the fire affected its offices.
NIS said, “A fire incident occurred in our service headquarters this morning. It affected some of our offices.
“The fire has been put out by our Federal Fire Station and support from other agencies around the airport.
“The cause of the fire is being investigated. We assure the public that the incident will not in any way affect the discharge of our services.”
