Following the lazy Nigerian youths statement by president Buhari and subsequent backlash from Nigerians all over the world, demanding that the president gives some respect to hardworking Nigerian youth, a trend was birthed and it's the 'accolade' trend.

It now suddenly seems like a new word, whereas its been lying in the dictionaries for many years. It's been buzzing on social media lately and celebrities have capitalized on it to showcase their hard work and creativity to fans home and abroad.

Notable brands also have cashed in on this accolade challenge, expectedly using it to promote their brands and commitment to serve customers/clients. For the purpose of this thread, I shall examine top 5 brands using this accolade challenge.

1. MTN: The mobile telecommunications giant didn't sleep over this trend. They have been swift about using the accolade challenge in all sphare of their operation, not just to promote the brand, but also to show commitment to serve.

2. AFOREVO TV: Translating nollywood contents into several Nigerian languages, they have capitalized on the accolade challenge to drive awareness and engagements amongst Nigerians.

3. TECNO : One of the leading mobile phone giants in Nigeria, have also used the accolade challenge as a tool in showing constant and committed effort to satisfy millions of customers in Nigeria and across the world at large.

4. YUDALA: One of Nigeria's best online and offline retail chain. It's a house hold name in nigeria and they seem to have also taken advantage of this accolade challenge to attract lots of interests amongst Nigerian youths and even the elderly.

5. LET'S VIBE TV: Telling stories in amazing ways, with some funny contents really deserves some accolades. Last but not the least, they seem to have doused the tension that came with the lazy Nigerian youth comment with funny contents and amazing stories.

Having said this, it is important to note that Nigerian brands tend to capitalise on trends to promote their brands, and also to show commitment to ardent followers and prospective ones too.

Now, I'll be waiting for these brands to give me accolades too. Or don't I deserve accolades? I surely do. Cash accolades isn't a bad idea *winks*

I was at slot on monday for a new phone where I got to feel the camon x(since i had it in mind)... I was so disappointed after the experience with the camon and the infinix hot s3 that I vowed never to use those two brands ever again... They use HD wallpapers to deceive people.

All my experiences with them have been awful, from the tecno m3 in 2014 to the Infinix hot 2 in 2015 and the tecno w4 for the past two years.

sorry about your experience. It seems as you are having a bad experience, some other people are having great fun with their Tecno phones and devices. Phones are delicate and most be judiciously taken care of and maintained. A careless person doesn't have a business with sleek phones.

An exceptional product can't be hidden, that's why Tecno deserves all the accolades. But OP you haven't answered the question we have been asking. Have you bought your own Tecno camon x? You won't get it for free, if you like give Tecno accolades from January to December. You must buy your own today today.

it's not noise, it's called brand loyalty. And when you are loyal to a brand, you'll almost talk about it every where and whenever you find the opportunity.

a brand that does well and meets consumer expectations would have it's name in the mouth of people and eventually be a house hold name.

Unfortunately, most people buy phones that they have seen others with, phones that are trending, to show off etc, not because they really need the phones. Everyone wants to have the baddest phone. Some people have iPhones but they have never used 90% of their features. Some people dislike Tecno and Infinix phones, simply because they are cheaper...but in real sense, the are the phones they NEED

some people even dislike Tecno not for personal or obvious reasons, but from 'hear say.' It's like spreading rumour when you can't even confirm what you heard.

You are talking as if you will give us the money to buy the good Samsung and co. Yes those phones are way better and everyone would love to own them but they're too expensive that only few percentage of Africans can afford them. Tecno and co have their target market and they're satisfying that market with their price. More than 80% of Smartphone users in Africa wouldn't own a smart phone if not for Transsion Holdings and other companies like them. So allow us manage our trash abeg.
