Politics › BREAKING!!! Biafra: South-east APC Demands Kanu’s Release by ruggedboy01(op): 1:49pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
Spokesman of South-East Leadership Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has urged Igbo to join President Muhammadu Buhari in building a progressive and prosperous country. Okechukwu made the call at the weekend in a speech entitled: “30 Years of Structural Adjustment Programme,” as he was honoured by Junior Chamber International (JCI), for his struggle for the advancement of democracy in the country.
The South-East APC spokesman, who came to venue of the award with a retinue of party chieftains, also pleaded for the release of detained Radio Biafra Director, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu. He, however, pointed out that the narrative of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was vile and condemnable.
“His negative propaganda shows that he neither does not care about the strides Ndigbo havemade nationwide nor the lives of Ndigbo in Dutse, Potiskum, Mubi or Akure. My humble self fought in Boys Company in Biafra and knows the danger of Kanu’s negative narrative. “We must desist from throwing away the baby and the bath water. In this vein, one will advise that when Kanu comes out, he should visit Eze-Igbo in Akure and other Ezes scattered across the country, consult them and assess their living conditions before putting us in harm,” he advised. http://www.xposee.com/2015/12/breaking-biafra-south-east-apc-demands.html?m=1 |

Politics › Pro-biafra Protest: Cash Looted, Vehicles Worth N50m Destroyed In Onitsha Factor by ruggedboy01(op): 1:13pm On Dec 04, 2015 |
Over N50 million worth of valuables were allegedly destroyed by the pro-Biafra protesters at Onitsha, Anambra State. The protesters, who stormed Best Aluminum Manufacturing Company limited at Anyika Street, Ozala Layout Awada, Onitsha, with various weapons during the protest allegedly carted away N12million cash, burnt two vehicles, destroyed six others, smashed building glasses, looted computers and generating sets. Best Aluminum Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Pius Nweke said the hoodlums, numbering about 200, stormed the factory with intent of collecting arms from policemen on guard. When that failed, he said they stole and destroyed. He said the protest by pro-Biafra agitators was hijacked by miscreants, adding that immediately “they forced themselves into the factory, they went straight to a new car parked within the premises, poured fuel and burnt it and also went ahead and burnt another bus, destroying six other vehicles. Nweke alleged that the hoodlums also went to the cashier’s office and collected N12 million and also, made away with sets of computers and generating set as well as destroying glasses of the building, saying they equally injured two staff. Meanwhile, normalcy has returned in Onitsha, following Wednesday’s orgy of violence. Security operatives were seen in every part of the city patrolling to ensure that law and order were maintained. Police Area Commander in charge of Onitsha, Mr. Philip Ezekie, an Assistant Commissioner of Police told Daily Sun that the city was calm and that the Hausa community who ran for cover to various police stations to avoid attacks were safe. He noted that some of them in Fegge were evacuated to Asaba for safety. The pro-Biafra protesters on Wednesday took to streets to demand the release of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu director of Radio Biafra. In a related development, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership of the President-General, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday urged Muslims in the country to resist the temptation of retaliating Wednesday’s attacks on Muslims and the central mosque of Onitsha in Anambra State. The position of the religious body on the Onitsha mayhem was made known at a press conference addressed by its Secretary- General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday. The NSCIA’s scribe urged Muslims to consider the perpetrators as criminals and not representatives of any ethnic or religious group. “The NSCIA is fully aware of the development and is working round the clock to put the situation under control. Muslims are warned against the antics of those who seek to whip up religious sentiments to further their clandestine political motives. “Vengeance is for Allah and Muslims should exercise maximum restraint in these trying times. “We call on Muslim brothers and sisters not to embark on reprisal attacks on Christians and their places of worship in any part of Nigeria. We are already engaged in discussions with various security and relevant government agencies to forestall further aggravation of the situation.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/pro-biafra-protest-cash-looted-vehicles-worth-n50m-destroyed-in-onitsha-factory/

Politics › Salary Arrears: Workers Shut Down Owerri by ruggedboy01(op): 8:31am On Dec 03, 2015 |
ECONOMIC activities were brought to a halt in Owerri, Imo State when angry workers of parastatals and agencies took to the streets to demand their salaries arrears from government.
The protesters were dressed in black attires, wept openly as they marched through major roads and claimed Governor Rochas Okorocha was responsible for their plight.
Some of the protesters, who spoke with Daily Sun, said they decided to wear black to show solidarity with some of their colleagues from the judiciary who died on Monday out of frustration due to nine months salary arrears…
Daily Sun investigation indicated that departments of state parastatals owed salary backlog of salary include Water Board (12 months), Library Board (eight months), Due Process (nine months), Imo Marketing Board (10 months), Imo Specialist Hospital (13 months), Hospital Management Board (nine months) and Imo ADP (10 months).
State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Austin Chilakpu, explained that workers staged the protest because they doubted labour’s ability of bring succour to them.
He disclosed that the leadership of NLC had, on No vember 13, promised workers that the state government would pay their salaries on November 17 based on the agreement reached with the government but it failed. However, workers who eventually ended their protest at the Government House disagreed with the promise of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Kingsley Uju, who addressed the protesters on behalf of Okorocha.
“What is happening is regrettable; it is not the making of the state governor. Efforts are in top gear to pay all of you; just give us till next week,” Uju said.
In a related development, former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha has expressed shock and disbelief over media reports that Imo State Government has earmarked over N600 million for Christmas decorations.
Ihedioha queried why, “at this critical period when Imo citizens are going through untold hardship arising from over 20 months of unpaid salary arrears and pensions, grounding of the 27 local government councils; several unresolved industrial disputes; infrastructural collapse, the government would embark on such inciting and frivolous window dressing.’’ http://sunnewsonline.com/new/salary-arrears-workers-shut-down-owerri/

Politics › Ihedioha Blasts Okorocha Over N600m Christmas And New Year Decorations by ruggedboy01(op): 6:45am On Dec 03, 2015 |
OWERRI—The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, has expressed shock over media reports that Imo State government has earmarked over N600 million for Christmas and New Year decorations in the state.
According to a press statement by his media aide, Mr. Chibuike Onyeukwu, the former Deputy Speaker questioned why Imo should spend such huge sums at a time the citizenry are going through untold hardship arising from over 20 months of unpaid salary arrears and pensions.
It was the considered opinion of Chief Ihedioha that the 27 local government councils had been comatose for years, while several industrial disputes had remained unresolved.
“There are several unresolved industrial disputes, while the state’s infrastructure base has collapsed. Today, there is palpable lack of vision for the genuine development of the state, but the government chose to embark on such inciting and frivolous window dressing,” Ihedioha fumed.
Continuing, Chief Ihedioha said that “despite the prevailing widespread disenchantment being expressed by citizens, who recently called for his immediate impeachment over the alarming rate of hunger and insecurity occasioned by the inept handling of issues of governance and unrepentant deceit so far exhibited by the Okorocha led administration, the governor has refused to repent or address such concerns and other critical issues.”
While saying that “preparations for Christmas celebration is a tradition all over the world,” Ihedioha, however, said, it was “ridiculous and indeed smacks of insensitivity for this government to spend over N600 million on decorations when families can no longer afford their meals and basic needs as a result of non- payment of salaries, pensions and other entitlements.”
He expressed displeasure that Governor Okorocha had refused to constitute his cabinet six months after election. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/n600m-xmas-new-yr-decorations-ihedioha-blasts-okorocha/ |
