Dis man de hospital for obodo oyibo de dream Nigeria! Hmmm! Welcome back mr ranting jan.jaweed |
Piqued by the state of the nation, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, called for immediate action in order to to rescue the country from total collapse. In an interview he granted during his condolence visit to the widow of the late Vice Chairman of The Sun Publishing Ltd, Pastor Dimgba Igwe, Obioma, the former Lagos State governor spoke briefly on the problems confronting the nation and his rumoured sickness recently. Excerpts: 1)With the death of Dimgba Igwe, what have you to say on the state of the nation with the myriad of problems confronting her? At a period when oil revenue has remained stable for the last number of years at $100 per barrel, if the quality of life of our people is still as this, it is unfortunate. Poverty, insecurity, unemployment! In fact, if the per capita income of an individual, I mean the purchasing power of an individual is improved upon, you will be better off. That is the truth. And if the gap between the poor and the rich is widening and some few, very tiny people are moving towards the ceilings while some people remain on the floor, permanently on the floor, crawling, and wallowing in poverty. We have to think about the type of society we want to build. Here is a man’s house; simple. When you hear the name of Dimgba outside there, you will think he is wealthy. You will think he is living in affluence. On his part, you will see sign of someone still struggling economically in this environment. Is that the type of Nigeria we will continue to build with sentiments, emotions and wrong assumptions? All we have to do is to rescue our nation and build ourselves in a way that will bring happiness and prosperity to our people. That is what we should think about now. 2)People are worried about your health, what is the state of your health? My appearance puts an end to that rumour. Wait a minute. I have not taken a rest since 1994 after MKO Abiola’s election. In the Social Democratic Party (SDP) , days when we were in trenches, it was either you were in exile or somewhere else. It was a day-in-day- out working machine type of life. It is either one person was facing this direction or the other man facing the other direction. When the late Chief Anthony Enahoro came back, may his soul rest in peace, he came back with a walking stick. You know it was a gruesome period that nobody could sleep and take an adequate rest. Then came 1999; and ever since then, we have been on a political horse race, barefooted, fighting a war while some people are on the horse. The body must rest. A whole lot of you might not know. Sometimes I don’t go to bed until 4.30 in the morning and by 8:00 am I am already up answering questions and planning elections. 3)What then happened? I have promised myself and my family that, one day I will escape, go to rest and nobody would be able to reach me. And that was what I did. I didn’t do anything rather than general medical check up in April. Okay? It was not even up to a time to check. I went to my doctor friend to say do I have to, or do you have to examine me again with all these rumours going on? And he said forget it. Now, tomorrow, if you like I would bring my exercise bike out and I will ride for you. E-e-eh…There is nothing (wrong with me). That is the truth. I didn’t even have a need for a Panadol or Paracetamol since I have been away. That is the gospel truth. And if you go to Lagos State Ministry of Health, some people are insinuating that Lagos State is paying his medical bills. That he has been there. You go to the ministry and find out. 4)What then is your advice to journalists on this type of rumour? I think as a member and leader in this profession- Journalism, I will say you must be challenged to question some of these hearsays from those who will just go to Isi Ewu centers and cook stories because it tells on your profession, integrity and honesty. Again, if you try to cry wolf, wolf, wolf when there is none, the day wolf comes, nobody will be there to rescue you. Then, intellectually we have seen that in the area of politics, this is political genocide as far as I am concerned. Is there anybody there who had planted poison in my body, expecting it to incubate and germinate and kill me by now? Or hospitalize me by now? That is making my family members worried. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=83034

Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi has ex pressed the need for government to improve on funding of the education sector to achieve greater productivity and raise an educated and enlightened citizenry. Amaechi stated this at the 18th – 20th convocation ceremony of the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori at the weekend. He said: “Our country, Nigeria must have the capacity to create the human capital needed for economic development. There are serious concerns that our higher institutions of learning at all levels are producing graduates not fit for purpose. In other words, our children are leaving school without the knowledge to sustain them or contribute to the development of the national economy.” Amaechi described education as a focal point of development, saying his administration had made huge investments in the sector since 2007 because of its importance. “Early in the life of this administration, we declared a state of emergency in the education sector to make Rivers State the hub of education, not only in Nigeria, but also in sub-Sahara Africa. Our commitment is to improve services and the quality of education and make it more relevant to productive activities, includ ing value re-orientation, employment and wealth creation. We shall continue to pursue that dream vigorously and also confront the challenges be devilling the education sector. Even as we strive to revitalise the sector, I am delighted to say that our efforts are bearing fruitful results. The naming of Port Harcourt as the World Book Capital 2014 earlier in the year and other achievements gave eloquent testimony of the recognition. It is an unprecedented achievement as we put Rivers State and Nigeria in the global map,” he said. The governor expressed commitment to continue funding education in the state to prevent the youths from resorting to crime and other social vices. “We have made tremendous efforts to replace the guns that were in the hands of our misguided and uninformed youths, thus providing them with windows of opportunities and endless possibilities,” he said. Meanwhile, Amaechi has warned against indiscipline among lecturers, other staff and students. He also warned against criminal activities, cultism and examination malpractices, mandating the Rector of the polytechnic, Sir Obianko Nwolu-Elechi, to dismiss and expel erring lecturers and students from the institution to serve as a deterrent to others. His words: “Government will not condone indiscipline and criminal activities among staff and students. I will ensure that the full weight of the law is brought to bear on such cases, particularly cultism and examination malpractices.” He told the rector: “Discipline the lecturers and the rest will stop. If you dismiss the lecturers and expel the students, others will learn. The rector should not tell me another day that he is overwhelmed. There is no special lecturer or friend of the governor.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=82841 |
•Number of aspirants increase as Buhari, Atiku, Okorocha, Kwankwaso, Saraki battle for slot GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State is warming up to join the 2015 presidential race. He is expected to slug it out with former Vice- President Atiku Abubakar, Senator Bukola Saraki, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), and Governor Rochas Okorocha (Imo) as well as former military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Gen. Buhari and Senator Bukola Saraki, are yet to officially declare their interest in the contest. More members of the party may show interest in due course, according to party sources. Governor Oshiomhole, it was gathered, has already completed consultations at home and abroad on his aspiration. He was in the United Kingdom and the United States of America (USA) recently as part of the consultations. He is said to have received encouragement to join the race from friends, including foreigners who have followed his switch from labour to politics and governance. His backers are convinced that Oshiomhole stands a good chance of making it to Aso Rock Villa since the PDP has conceded its own ticket slot to President Goodluck Jonathan from the Southsouth. They are of the view that the choice of Oshiomhole might serve as a counter-balancing force to Jonathan in the zone should the APC concede the slot to the Southsouth. But there is a snag: the recent election of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun from the same zone as the party’s National Chairman. A source familiar with the development said Oshiomhole has been “looking at the larger picture and not geopolitical calculation.” “The comrade governor, is considering the need for a leader to salvage the nation rather than any other calculation,” the source said. “This is why he has been meeting with leaders at home and abroad on his aspiration and how to rescue the nation. He has concluded consultations and he is of the strong opinion that he should vie for the office. “The governor is interested in the presidential race. He will make his intention known soon. As a former labour leader, he believes he has a bigger constituency to lead the APC to victory in 2015 if he gets the ticket. “The governor will make a declaration as soon as the APC releases the guidelines in line with INEC’s timetable.” The governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Prince Kassim Afegbua, confirmed the interest of his boss in the Presidency. He said: “This has always been our interest because some of us would not want the Comrade Governor to squander his enormous political capital across the country without giving a shot at the highest office in the land. He has tremendous courage, brilliance and capacity to contend with developmental issues in the country; ingredients that are presently needed to provide problem-solving leadership at the center. “Give it to this great former Labour leader that he is one Nigerian who believes so much in the unity of the country and is ready to go to any length to preserve that unity. “Nigerians need a leader like Comrade Oshiomhole at this time to galvanize all the centrifugal and centripetal forces into a national aspiration to lift the country from its present prostrate state to some kind of Olympian height in a clear headed attempt to earn our cherished position amongst nations of the world.” He added, “He will wait for the party to blow the whistle but he will test his presidential participation through the primaries. It will be our hope that the members of the APC consider him worthy of this noble cause in the build-up to the 2015 elections. To answer your question, yes, he will contest.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/2015-oshiomhole-to-vie-for-apc-presidential-ticket/ |

Officials at the referendum count in Glasgow have said they are investigating 10 cases of suspected electoral fraud at polling stations. It is thought to be related to possible cases of personation, where people pretend to be someone else and cast a vote, then the real person turns up. The 10 suspect votes were cast at a variety of different polling stations across the city. Glasgow City Council said police had been called earlier on Thursday. Each ballot paper has an individual number attached to it, so officials will now have to sort through the ballots and attempt to find these 10 papers. They will then be removed, and kept separately from the more than 486,000 ballot papers being counted in Glasgow. Colin Edgar, head of communication at Glasgow City Council, said the search for the ten ballot papers "will not delay the count". Police Scotland said any crime committed would be appropriately investigated. A spokesman added: "Police Scotland takes the safety and security of the independence referendum extremely seriously and is working with partner agencies including local authorities to ensure the integrity of the ballot." http://m.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-29264151 |

Leading Yoruba and Igbo youth organisations rose from their meeting in Enugu on Wednesday night with a resolution to form an alliance, geared towards combating the Boko Haram insurgency, ravaging the country. They also asked the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Atahiru Jega to reverse the recent creation of 30,000 polling units in the country, which from all intents and purposes, favoured the North against the South, or he should resign. The ethnic youth organisations also threw their weight behind the Chairman of South-East Governors Forum, Theodore Orji and observed with dismay the current attempt by his predecessor in office as Governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu to assault his person. Addressing a joint press conference after the five- hour meeting, the Leader of Yoruba Youth Council Worldwide, Comrade Eric Oluwole and National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, frowned at the growing spate of insecurity in the country, especially in the North- East region. Oluwole explained that they formed an alliance to decide how they could move this country forward, stressing that they can no longer fold their hands and allow this country to be destroyed by evil persons under the guise of Boko Haram or terrorism. The Yoruba youth leader said they resolved to reach out to youth of other ethnic nationalities with the expectation that they would join them in this alliance to rescue Nigeria. “Part of what we discussed today is security. Even today, we heard that happened in Kano College, where the College was destroyed by Boko Haram and many students killed. This is a threat to Nigeria. This is a threat to the President. “It looks as if they don’t want him to be the leader of this country. We, the youth, believe in his transformation agenda. The main point of our meeting today is to come together and think of how we can deliver this country from every evil because the power of this country lies on us as youth who are the leaders of tomorrow”, Oluwole stated. On his part, Isiguzoro said they discussed the 2015 general elections, and observed that Professor Jega was trying to play some pranks with the electorate. The Igbo youth leader noted that creation of 22,000 polling units in the crisis ridden North and only 8000 in the entire South, clearly shows that Jega was no longer credible to conduct the general elections in 2015. “For him to have created over 22,000 polling units in the North that is riddled with crisis, especially North East shows his bias. We feel that it is a fraud on the electorate and we are calling on him either to reverse that decision or take the path of honour and resign because he is no longer credible to conduct the election of 2015”, Isiguzoro said. Isiguzoro said Igbo youths have set up a mechanism against anybody who pillories against any Igbo leader and would not hesitate to sanction the former Abia Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, if the need arises. He reminded Kalu that there is a medium to reach out to the governor if he has any grouse, although they know that the governor has done well more than him when he was in office as Governor. “We want him (kalu) to stop all these attacks for the interest of Igbo nation”, Isiguzoro said.
