Former militant leader Mujahid Dokubo Asari has said that the insecurity problems in the country would be well taken care of if President Goodluck Jonathan acts fast and sacks his service and security chiefs, saying that he senses corruption in many ramifications as underlying the not-too-impressive war against insurgency. Last March, Jonathan, the President appointed Aliyu Mohammed Gusau as the Defence Minister with a mandate to end the orgy of insurgency by the Boko Haram sect, the Fulani herdsmen and others. He has had to appoint new service chiefs even as he gave all of them including the National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Col. Sambo Dasuki, marching orders to rescue fellow Nigerians from the pangs of the insurgents. Months after, Dokubo Asari alongside other worried public affairs commentators hold that the war against insurgency is not yielding desired results. In an exclusive interview with Nigerian Pilot Saturday, Dokubo Asari declared that though it does not really bother him the amount of destruction Boko Haram causes in the north eastern part of the country, where their activities are very intense, inefficiency in the security services is far worse now before the coming of the current helmsmen in the services. “Sincerely, my brother, when an Ijaw was NSA, the insurgency was not up to this scale in its progression,” the former militant leader said. Linking the development with the alleged plot by the North to stall Jonathan’s bid to seek a second term as President, Dokubo Asari said: “In Nigeria, the insurgency is that Goodluck is an Ijaw man. He is a southerner and must not rule. They are going to make the country ungovernable. “So, they now apply Islamic sentiment which is nowhere. There is no compulsion in religion. That is what the Qur’an says; quoting from the Holy Book, which says; ‘To you is your faith and to me is my faith.’ ” Continuing, Dokubo said: “Nobody can proclaim Islamic jihad on a multi-religious setting like Nigeria. My father has nine children and I am the only Muslim. When you proclaim Islamic jihad you expect me go to my house and start fighting my people while you have your own? “When I have killed them, all you will do is to turn around to say I am Gambari born to rule. You are ruling Hausa, Nupe and Yoruba people who are Muslims like you and you refuse to give them power. Is it an Ijaw man that you have sent to kill his uncles, aunties, brothers, sisters and other relations? “All that they are doing has nothing to do with Islam; it is politically aimed at seizing power. We are waiting for them, they are plotting and we are all plotting. What is happening now is unthinkable more than during the days of Azazi as NSA. For me the president should overhaul the nation’s security.” Dokubo Asari added: “For the insurgency, for people like us they are helping us, without shooting one bullet they are busy shooting the bullet for us. They are busy fighting our cause, so let them go about doing it. Their demand of creating Islamic caliphate is okay; if the people accept, that is okay. “That is not Goodluck’s business; it is mine. Why should we continue to allow people to die, for what purpose? Nigeria is not sacrosanct. The Soviet Union dissolved; Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, amongst others did; let us dissolve Nigeria; we are not the same. Nigeria cannot survive, so, for me I say kudos to Shekau. “You are doing my duty. He is doing what I am supposed to do. I am relaxed. Let them be doing it, let the army be running. Everything that is happening is to my own good; it is to the good of my people because we have less people to fight when the time comes.” http://www.newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=7197&title=Worsening-insecurity:-DOKUBO-ROARS,-tells-Jonathan:-SACK-NSA,-SERVICE-CHIEFS-NOW&scid=46

2015: Anambra shuts down markets for Jonathan 2 BY EMMANUEL UZOR, ONITSHA ON AUGUST 31, 2014 · NATIONAL Anambra State government yesterday shut down all the 66 major markets across the state as part of activities marking the ceremony organized by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA to persuade President Goodluck Jonathan to seek re-election in the 2015 general election. Sunday Sun gathered that all major markets including road side ones were shut down yesterday, as traders were urged to remain in their houses or come out enmass to participate in the mega rally held at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka. From the Main market, Ochanja, Mgbuka, Ose- Okwodu, New Parts and Building materials markets to all other major markets in Nnewi and Awka cities, shops were put under lock and key as roads were all deserted. However, only few persons were seen on the roads in the commercial city of Onitsha wearing uniforms with different inscriptions and photograph of Mr. President, and other insignia belonging to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the Anambra State Amalgamated Traders’ Association, AMATAS, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo said the markets were shut by the union to allow the traders participate in the rally to urge the President to present himself for re- election. Chief Ezenwankwo said the idea was to give the traders sense of belonging to take active part in making necessary critical decisions when it mattered most, especially as it regards the future of the nation. “We shut down all the 66 major markets in the state so that traders will join our Governor, Chief Willie Obiano in urging President Goodluck Jonathan to please present himself and seek a re-election come 2015 general election to continue with the transformation agenda he has started. “Traders are unified in the sense that Mr. President has done well and irrespective of our various political affiliations, the traders decided to be part of this critical event to persuade the President to accept the call from Nigerians to continue his good works,” he said. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=79563

Boko Haram convoy causes panic in Borno 0 BY TIMOTHY OLANREWAJU, MAIDUGURI ON AUGUST 30, 2014 · NATIONAL A convoy of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) and mo torcycles with armed men suspected to be Boko Haram has caused panic in a town located in the central part of Borno, a security source said. A gang of wild-looking men in some vehicles painted in military colour and motorcycles chanting Allah Akbar ! (Allah is great) was reportedly sighted by resi dents of Dikwa, headquarters of Dikwa Local Government Area on Thursday, forcing many residents to flee into the bush. “Reports indicated that there was commotion every where as people fled into the bush until the men stopped and told some people they didn’t come for them but for security troops,” a police source that is not authorised to speak said. Speculation was rife in the state that the Emir of Dikwa, Alhaji Muhammad Masta El- Kanemi may have also fled the town amidst the confusion and panic of possible attack by the terrorists. A source however claimed he was sighted in Maiduguri, the state capital yesterday, adding that he may have ar rived the capital same yesterday and didn’t flee his domain as rumoured. Residents said the insurgents headed to Marte, north of Borno, once a Boko Haram stronghold, where they unleash violence on villagers in the area but this cannot be verified as at press time due to destruction and breakdown of telecommunication facilities in the area. The serene Dikwa town is about 80 kilomeetres from Maiduguri and is located along Gumboru/Ngala road, which has been taken over by the insurgents since August 24. Marte is on the Nigerian border around the Lake Chad. http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=79425 |
In defence of their political and religious leaders, the Arewa Northern groups have warned the leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, to desist from making uncomplimentary remarks against them. The groups, Arewa Citizens Action for Change (ACAC) and Arewa Youth Development Foundation (AYDF) further urged President Goodluck Jonathan to call Asari to order. In a statement issued by ACAC Director, Mallam Aminu Adam, and AYDF National President, Mallam Ali Usman, the groups said they “have observed with great concern the persistent, unrestrained verbal attacks on the generality of the people of Northern Nigeria and their interests by Ijaw community’s trouble-shooter, Asari Dokubo.” “Most recently, Dokubo, perhaps emboldened by government’s backing, has graduated to attacking the revered Sultan of Sokoto, the distinguished Emir of Kano and respected leaders like Generals Muhammadu Buhari and Ibrahim Babangida, and also our great politicians, Atiku Abubakar and Lawal Kaita”. The group had said cautioning that if nothing is done about Asari’s persistent verbal attacks, the country will pay for it dearly. http://dailypost.ng/2014/08/29/arewa-youths-warn-asari-dokubo-odd-remarks-northern-leaders/ |
