‎The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish State Police Services and is set to transmit its resolution to the National Assembly.

‎The bill was passed for third reading during plenary on Tuesday after the House constituted itself into a Committee of the Whole and considered the provisions of the bill clause by clause.

‎The sitting was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.

OK movement demands apology from NDC, rejects intimidation

The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, popularly known as the OK Movement, has demanded an immediate apology from the Nigeria Democratic Congress over statements by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, concerning its recently unveiled 59-member Presidential Campaign Council.

The movement also warned that it would not be intimidated or surrender its independence, insisting that it remained an independent political organisation with its own leadership, structure and internal processes.

The movement’s National Secretary, Saadatu Sani, gave the warning in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.

The development followed the NDC’s decision to dissociate itself from the campaign council unveiled by the group on Thursday to mobilise support for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The NDC, in a statement by Cleopas on Saturday night, said the council did not emanate from the party and should be disregarded.

Cleopas also warned that no individual, candidate or support group was authorised to constitute or announce a campaign structure in the party’s name without prior approval from its National Working Committee.

But responding in a statement on Sunday, Sani described the position of the NDC chairman as unfortunate and said it reflected a misunderstanding of the movement’s character and independence.

Sani urged Cleopas to familiarise himself with the NDC constitution before making assertions about the rights and responsibilities of the movement.

She said, “The OK Movement does not engage in such politics. We will not be dragged into a politics of personal insults, intimidation or defamatory exchanges. We will continue to educate rather than abuse. We will continue to defend the principles upon which this movement was established.

“The NDC national chairman is therefore called upon to withdraw the statements considered defamatory and to tender an immediate apology to the OK Movement and to our Director General, Hon. John Ughulu.”

The movement said it recognised the supremacy of political parties within their constitutional and statutory spheres and would campaign for Obi and Kwankwaso as well as NDC candidates that it resolves to support across the country.

However, the group insisted that such support did not make it a subordinate structure of the party.

“We will campaign for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the party. We will campaign for candidates of the NDC Party across the country where the movement has resolved to support them.

“But we do not require the personal validation or approval of any individual before exercising our legitimate organisational functions,” Sani said.

According to her, the movement had developed a nationwide grassroots structure with an internal database representing approximately 2.5 million registered members and coordinators.

She emphasised that the movement was not a temporary support group created for the 2027 elections but an organisation with a long-term political vision.

The OK Movement secretary also rejected allegations concerning Ughulu’s involvement in the Lagos State primary and said they welcomed the opportunity to put their position on record.

Sani said they would not engage in what she described as personal insults, intimidation or defamatory exchanges, adding that they would continue to defend its members when their integrity was questioned.

CHEAPER FUEL MUST MEAN CHEAPER TRANSPORT FARES”: PRESIDENT TINUBU, GOVERNORS MOVE TO CUT TRANSPORT FARES NATIONWIDE

I am pleased with my discussion with the Governors’ Forum this afternoon. The Governors have, on their own initiative, resolved to take immediate measures to bring down the cost of transportation in their states, with a strong focus on leveraging the cost benefits of CNG and electric vehicles.

The Federal Government is already investing significantly in this energy transition. Through the Presidential CNG Initiative, over 120,000 vehicles have been converted nationwide, with more than 100,000 additional conversion kits in the works. At the same time, we continue to expand conversion centres and refuelling infrastructure nationwide.

The Federal Government, through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund, is currently financing more than 100 gas projects across the country, including 15 CNG mother stations and 86 daughter stations. In May, I commissioned four of these projects in Lagos, Abuja and Owerri, including a 15-station refuelling network in Lagos and an Abuja facility that can serve 1,000 cars and tricycles and 50 trucks and buses a day.

I have also directed the additional rollout of another 500 CNG refuelling stations nationwide in addition to the 500 stations ordered earlier in the year by the Fund, bringing the programme to 1,000 stations across the country.

Intra-state transport is where Nigerians feel the cost most directly, and it is where the states hold the levers. I am encouraged that our Governors are moving to bring these benefits closer to the people they serve.

We have agreed to set up a joint Federal and State committee to begin implementing these measures immediately. A vehicle running on CNG spends 60 to 80 per cent less on fuel than one running on petrol.

From October 1, our goal is that Nigerians begin to partake in those savings through lower transport fares.
We have agreed that cheaper fuel should result in cheaper fares!

Each tier of government must keep doing its part and work together for the benefit of every Nigerian.

Renewed Hope Free Medical and Surgical Outreach Launched in Taraba State

A three-week free medical and surgical outreach programme is set to take place across Taraba State to mark the 58th birthday of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The initiative, sponsored by friends and associates of the APC National Chairman, will offer free medical consultations, laboratory investigations, medications, specialist care and surgical interventions to residents of the state.

Phase One of the outreach will run from 3rd to 7th August 2026 at selected secondary healthcare centres.

In the Southern Senatorial District, services will be available at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari, and General Hospital, Takum.

In the Central Senatorial District, the programme will cover General Hospital, Bali, and General Hospital, Gembu in Sardauna Local Government Area.

In the Northern Senatorial District, care will be provided at Bambur General Hospital in Karim Lamido Local Government Area and the Primary Health Care Centre, Sunkani, in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.

The official flag-off is scheduled for 8th August 2026 at 10:00 a.m., to be performed by Professor Yilwatda on his birthday.
Phase Two, running from 8th to 22nd August 2026, will focus on tertiary healthcare centres and specialist surgical services at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, and the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Jalingo.

Advanced specialist consultations and surgical procedures will continue at these facilities until the end of the outreach.

The Guest of Honour is Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. The host is Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas.
The announcement was issued by the Planning Committee.
