FashionCan It Be Classy (quality) Yet Affordable by sabiarea(op): 4:03pm On Apr 08, 2019
Often times, we believe that for us to get quality and classy fashionable wears and accessories will need us breaking the bank for it hence the reason we go the less classy and quality stuffs.

According to Allthingzsurun Bespoke Fashions, a fashion's dealer they believe that quality can be affordable. For them, they believe no one should be deprived of quality base on price. And like we all fashion is a part of humanity unlike the idea that it is a feminine "thing".

Every one wants to look good, smell good, feel good and get those compliments that will dazzle and brighten their faces with smiles...read more here:https://sabiarea.com.ng/2019/04/08/it-can-be-classy-yet-affordable-with-allthingzsurun/

But today he needs your help to stop the pains he gets from his left pelvic region. It is as a result of the gradual chopping off of his bone joint in that region.

According to Muyiwa, when it started he felt it was nothing serious for it was just a dull ache until it became severe and he had to go for an X-ray only to be told that his bone joint is chopping off slowly.

CelebritiesIs Sagging A Fashion Statement Or Just Wack??? by sabiarea(op): 3:05pm On Mar 26, 2019

It is a common sight to behold as you walk around on the streets of Nigeria, different sagging patterns of young men which begs the question if sagging is a fashion style or just a wack trend.

It is said that sagging started among prisoners. We hear that because they are not given belts (for it can be used as weapons and for suicide) to hold their trousers in place hence the trousers goes down below their bottoms (arse). How true it is we do not know.

So why do people sag? To look cool and funky or to show off their under wears (if it is designer)?

We think in recent times it has become very popular because celebrities are seen doing it so now it seems cool but it ain’t COOL...what do you think...read more here:https://sabiarea.com.ng/2019/03/25/is-sagging-a-fashion-statement-or-just-wack/

I know right…STRANGE.
Well, I stumbled upon a video about of the Vadoma people of Zimbabwe on Instagram and decided to do a research on them on the internet and guess what I learnt….

The Vadoma people, also known as the Bantwana tribe, which means children/descendants, are a tribe living in the north of Zimbabwe, primarily in the Urungwe and Sipolilo districts on the Zambezi river valley.

There are many in their community, who can’t wear shoes due to the shape of their feet. They only have two big toes on each foot.

They don’t have middle toes and the two outer ones are turned in. They still can walk but with some difficulty according to the shape, running is also difficult to them. It is said this condition helps them while climbing trees, though.

The act of tie and dye as part of the fashion industry runs deep into the Nigerian society and across the world but is it now a dying form of art?

In the northern part of Nigeria especially around Kano there used to be what is called indigo pits and in the western part of Nigeria especially among the Abeokuta people tie and dye was a fad that was craved and desired amongst many.

It was a profession filled with women (maybe because fashion was seen as a woman thing back then) and commonly called “adire”.

Well, it gladdens the heart to know that such rich culture still exist and is being sustained by young entrepreneurs and improved upon.

@iam_vicocool a tie and dye practitioner said he delved into the art form because of the play of colours.

“Well, the reason I chose tie and dye is because I realise Africans are people of colours”, he said.

Although, he is into tie and dye but he does not use your conventional material which is the normal native wear.

According to @iam_vicocool, the love for colours in a tie and dye format was restricted to our native attires hence his decision to explore it on t-shirts and other materials. Read more here:https://sabiarea.com.ng/2019/03/19/is-tie-and-die-dying/

Who would have thought that Manchester United will offset the two goal lead of Paris Saint-Germain had away when they had played on February 21st, 2019 at Old Tradford.

Most football lovers felt it will be an easy ride for PSG to either maintain their two goal lead or extend it since they will be playing on home turf. But from the early goal of Lukaku and the final result of the match that ended 1-3 in favour of Manchester United thus sending them through to the round of 16 (sixteen) on away goals since goal aggregate ended 3-3.

But the big question is was the penalty that saw Manchester United score their third and winning goal for qualification truly a penalty?

HealthThe Health Effects Of Driving By Dr. Sylvester Ikhisemoje by sabiarea(op): 4:48pm On Jan 24, 2019
The art of driving is one of the most stressful jobs in the world. In places like Nigeria, driving itself resembles war. Despite that fact, many people do not give driving a second thought when they get behind the steering, start their engines and zoom off to wherever it is they want to go.

However, this is also one of the most dangerous jobs on earth with the risk of dying or suffering minor, moderately severe and severe injuries as a result of which some would experience life-changing events that would permanently alter their lives.

In Nigeria, road traffic accidents are the third leading cause of death in the country. In January 2018 alone according to the Federal Road Safety Corps, there were 456 reported deaths from more than 800 motor vehicle accidents across the nation. More than 3,400 people were injured. In the previous month of December, 2017 there were more than 550 people killed in road traffic accidents. In most of these incidents, excessive speeding and reckless driving were to blame for the accidents.

In the United States of America, there are about 6 million road traffic accidents every year with more than 90 deaths occurring every day from them. That figure translates to nearly 40,000 deaths annually from road traffic accidents and that is in a country with strict speed limits. In this less chaotic road traffic as seen in the US, some three million Americans still suffer injuries resulting from such accidents. These are humbling statistics that should alter our behaviour while on the road for the better.

Other related health risks of driving include anxiety and undue agitation. These are factors related to the peculiarities of driving on Nigerian roads, the presence of all sorts of competitors for the available road space such as cart-pushers, truck-pushers, and commercial motorcycle riders, pedestrians crossing major roads at unexpected points, commercial bus drivers and the new menace of tricycles. Some of these road users compound the chaos by willfully driving their various vehicles against the flow of traffic in both the cities and the country roads. When accidents occur therefore, they are often severe with many cases going unreported.

BusinessWhy Are Nigerians So Noisy? By Iniobong Umoh by sabiarea(op): 4:30pm On Jan 10, 2019

The reason we decided to put this up is quite simple...to get your take on the noise situation in Nigeria, on our streets and tell us the way forward, if any?

Iniobong Umoh: Why Are Nigerians So Noisy?

It is difficult living in Nigeria if you are a person who dislikes noise. From my observation, a majority of Nigerians are just noisy and loud. Being noisy is ingrained in our DNA.

You can’t escape the noise in Nigeria, it follows you everywhere you go.

I had an argument with the driver of the bus I boarded last night over the volume of music playing in the bus. I requested that he reduce the volume of music. I was tired and having a headache while Lil’ Kesh was blasting at full volume on the stereo. He was miffed at my suggestion and responded rudely, but I finally got him to turn down the volume.

We have normalized noise in Nigeria, it reflects on our aggressive behaviour. It has a psychological effect on us. Have you noticed that everyone seems to be angry in Nigeria? People flare up at the slightest provocation.

To alight from a commercial vehicle, you either have to shout to the driver or you hit the vehicle before the driver stops for you to alight.

Hanging out at joints, bars, clubs and other public spaces is a nightmare. The music is always at the highest decibel, you have to shout to be heard. People can’t hold normal conversations in such places. It could be amusing watching them sitting at a table shouting at each other.

I can’t count the number of times I have gone to a bar and either had to request for reduction of the volume of the sound system, step up and try to reduce the volume myself or walk out of the place, all because of the unwholesome noise.

Don’t even talk about religion and places of worship…These ones are noise production centers.
Preachers with lousy megaphones waking you at the early hours of the day when sleep is sweetest to you and forcing you to listen to their preaching, call for prayers from mosques with loudspeakers, all night services in residential areas, etc.

While searching for an apartment earlier on this year, I found a nice place I wanted to pay for, but when I got inside the house and opened the back window, I saw a church at the backyard. The signboard revealed it was one of these mushroom prayer outlets that run services 24/7, I almost shouted, “God forbid!” as I quickly exited the premises.

The noise pollution is endless. The cacophony on our streets and roads from people advertising herbal medicines, concoctions and drug supplements using loudspeakers mounted on buses, record shops playing music at loud volume, thugs ands calling out to passengers at loud voices, hawkers advertising their wares at the top of their voices, etc. Total chaos and madness! PoliticsLagos State Loses An Average Of One Billion Yearly To Traffic Congestion by sabiarea(op): 12:50pm On Dec 12, 2018

It is no more news that the level of traffic congestion in Lagos State is very high compared to other states in Nigeria, not surprising though since Lagos State is liken to a "mini-Nigeria" where all come to.

Below is a recent write-up on the traffic from http://thenationonlineng.net/motorists-traffic-blues/.

With an estimated 23 million people, 12 million of which commute daily on the 9,100 roads and expressways (2009 World Bank estimate), Lagos is the nation’s busiest state capital.

With about three million private and four million commercial vehicles, Lagos roads record no fewer than seven million vehicular trips daily. This is higher during peak periods, and much more during festive seasons due to the surge in travellers coming from other parts of the country.

Logistics experts said Lagos State is losing an average of $1 billion yearly to traffic congestion. Gbenga Olorunpomi, in a ROM Transportation Engineering research study in 2010, said the state was losing three billion man-hours to traffic congestion yearly, adding that if that time was reduced by 20 per cent, it would save the state at least, $1billion yearly.

The attendant cost of the loss such as diminished productivity, wasted energy, environmental degradation and diminished standard of living, imperil the quality of life, ebb away the state’s industrial competitiveness, make it (the state) one with a high cost of living index, all of which have continued to impacted on business and tourism.

Year after year, Lagos is witnessing a rising pressure on transportation, leading to debilitating congestion. Indeed, traffic congestion is widely viewed as a growing problem of mega cities such as Lagos, because the vehicular traffic volume in many areas continues to increase faster than the transportation system capacity.

The result is a traffic lock down, which slows down the economy, leading to capital flight as many...read more here: https://www.sabiarea.com.ng/2018/12/lagos-state-loses-average-of-one.html

Moving around in Nigeria especially cities like Lagos State, Rivers State etc involves that you are equipped with the various bus stops especially if you are a visitor or one who is not conversant with the area. And it does not matter if you are driving or not because it helps in easing your movement in case of emergency or direction.

We did a post on the "Pedestrians Etiquette Tips" https://www.sabiarea.com.ng/2018/10/pedestrian-etiquette-tips.html.

Today, we are doing a follow up on that but more on the usage of pedestrian bridges by pedestrians.

Pedestrian bridges are bridges specially designed for pedestrians and in some cases cyclists, animal traffic to further enhance the safety of road users.

Studies were carried out in the United Kingdom recently on pedestrian’s behaviour and attitude in the area of a pedestrian bridge. It was concluded that pedestrian bridges have a positive impact and have great potential of reducing number of pedestrian fatalities. The main factors that affect the use of pedestrian bridges are: the posted speed limit, the overall width of the cross walkway, and the existence of median barrier.

Nevertheless, pedestrian accidents normally involve passenger cars. However, considerable numbers of road crashes involved heavy goods vehicles. Pedestrians walking on the road make up the majority of casualties in pedestrian-related road crashes followed by pedestrians walking on the sidewalk. Main cause of pedestrian accidents is error of the driver. That includes not respecting pedestrian priority, lack of attention, driving under influence, speed violation, and disregard for crosswalks.

More than 50 per cent of pedestrian accidents are caused by cars driving at 40 mph and above, especially within built-up areas. Pedestrian accidents can also be caused by error of the pedestrians such as lack of attention, ignoring traffic controls, ignoring crosswalks and pedestrian bridges, lack of awareness or caution.

The same study further recommended the following measures to improve the driver and pedestrian behaviour:..Read more herehttps://www.sabiarea.com.ng/2018/11/attitude-and-pedestrian-bridges-usage.html

Read more here:https://www.sabiarea.com.ng/2018/11/attitude-and-pedestrian-bridges-usage.html

Like every thing in life, we are guided by rules either conventional or constitutional.

Below is an excerpt from a piece in the Vanguard Newspaper on pedestrian etiquette.

A pedestrian is a person who is walking on the road especially in an area also used by vehicles. Drivers share the road with many other road users among whom are pedestrians who are part of exposed road users.

Generally there are three types of pedestrians most often involved in road traffic crashes: children, the elderly and adults under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

PEDESTRIAN ETIQUETTE TIPS.

SWINGING

Sometimes you may not realize how you walk until someone tells you. It has already become quite a habit you have gradually grown up into and quite used to. Many times you may walk with a little swag without knowing. The most common is the swinging of arms and at times including the bag. Whether you swing your arms foreword or sideways, it can be very inconvenient for other road users. Soldier like walking also makes you appear as if you are in a hurry.

To avoid accidentally knocking other road users, watch your pace and speed; at all times keeping your personal belongings closer.

FACE UP FACE DOWN

We all like to multitask given the opportunity even while walking. Too many times we see people walking while texting on their mobile phone, in the same light with new technology your mobile phone is used to locate an address which keeps your eyes glued to the phone, how dangerous this is as you are totally unprepared for obstacles that may be in front of you. To avoid any form of hazard today it is more important to keep your eyes on the ball while walking. Negligence is no excuse while walking on the road. It is easier to stop and take a simple break while concentrating on what is handheld. Ensure your face is always up rather than down to avoid likely accidents due to the distraction.
