Religion / Much Ado About Left-hand by sabiarea: 12:04pm On Jan 30, 2020
Growing up as a child in Nigeria, it is a “taboo”, a show of disrespect, a lack of manners (home training) to use your left-hand to give out things, collect or receive things, eat with etc especially if you do that with an older person…naim be say your own done be.

You’ll either get a physical reprimand (either a knock on your head or a smack on the body) or verbal one or maybe both because you used your left-hand that is no different from the right-hand oo.

So the question is what is the big deal with the left-hand that Nigerians have decided to discriminate it as if it is not a part of what God created.

Is it because of the salient believe that anything left is not “good” in the minds of Nigerians especially as it is said in the bible that “those on my left will be sent to hell and those on my right to heaven” (something like that)...read more here https://sabiarea.com.ng/2020/01/20/much-ado-about-left-hand/.

Politics / Lagos: Third Most Stressful City In The World. by sabiarea: 4:57pm On Aug 08, 2019

According to a write-up by Shakir Akorede of CNN. Lagos is the THIRD MOST STRESSFUL CITY IN THE World.

The other two most stressful aresad1) Baghdad, Iraq (2) Kabul, Afghanistan.

In his write-up he was analysing the traffic situation in Lagos and how it has and is affecting the lives of its residents.

“It is not really hard to see why employees might feel stressed, burned out or exhausted, especially in a city like Lagos,” Oluwatayo says.”They leave home at 4 a.m., enduring hellish traffic and then [have] to deal with work pressure and the prevalent job insecurity, not to add individual family problems and responsibilities. It is no surprise that, in general, many more people seems to be suffering from anxiety and depression.”The situation is also killing workforce productivity.”How productive can you be when you stay in traffic for over six hours on a daily basis, conjoined with the things you go through to have a normal life in this city?” media exec Agnes Marquis said in a report by local media publication Pulse, titled “Here’s why you should think twice before taking a job in Lagos.”

Fashion / Shoe Making Builds My Confidence–deborah. by sabiarea: 2:33pm On May 17, 2019
Shoe and sandals making is usually perceived as a man’s profession and hence we see most persons who are into that profession are mostly men.

But at FAB COBBLER you in for a surprise because Banwo Deborah Ayomide — yes a lady– owns and runs the place, she does not just direct the affairs but “gets dirty” in the production process of shoe and sandals making.

According to Deborah when asked why she chose shoe making, she said “Well, it was a a mindset goal and trust me I am never shy about something that brings food and money to me”.
She said since she started shoe making in January, 2019 it has helped in building her confidence level towards facing challenges in life and also makes her feel unique as a woman in a trade perceived to be masculine.

Sports / Epl: Who Gets Crowned? by sabiarea: 12:20pm On May 09, 2019

With the one nil victory of Manchester City over Leicester City on Monday, May 6, 2019 it seems the only hope of Liverpool to see Manchester City drop a point is over.

Manchester City is a game away in clinching the cup for a back-to-back win.

Vincent Company, Manchester City’s captain, saw to it that they get their three points from Leicester with a lightening strike from some good meters off the yard.

With this victory Manchester City tops the table with 95 points while Liverpool sits on the second spot with 94 points.

Is it a done deal for Manchester City since they will be playing Brighton away on Sunday, May 12 the final day for the English Premier League (EPL) while Liverpool takes on Wolves at home...read more here:https://sabiarea.com.ng/2019/05/06/epl-who-gets-crowned/
Business / Did You Know A Barber Was Once Called A Surgeon? by sabiarea: 4:48pm On May 03, 2019
Strange, right?

In the middle age, a barber was called a barber-surgeon not because of his skills when it comes to the hair but because he also engaged in surgery, leeching, bloodletting etc hence earning him the title of “barber-surgeon”.

But now a barber is a person “whose occupation is mainly to cut, dress, groom, style and shave men’s and women’s hair. A barber’s place of work is known as a “barbershop” or a “barber’s” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barber ).

In modern times, the term “barber” is used both as a professional title and to refer to hairdressers who specialize in men’s hair. Historically, all hairdressers were considered barbers. In the 20th century, the profession of cosmetology branched off from barbering, and today hairdressers may be licensed as either barbers or cosmetologists. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barber ).

....However, it is still a platform used to lure innocent and naive Nigerians to either losing their lives via “ritual killings” or getting duped.

We can not ignore the fact that it is also a great influencer on the younger generation in shaping and moulding their belief system and goals in life(and with the wild-fire spread of nudity, do-as-you-like and ignore the society attitude from their role models or the get-rich-anyhow syndrome one cannot but wonder what values are being instilled).

Also, it seems to be a place where we all as Nigerians can come to and rant in the so-called safety of our homes on societal ills without doing anything more beyond ranting. Hence, we are back to square one until another viral video comes up of a repetition of such ill.

And yes, we are here RANTING as usual(smiles).
Technology Market / Social Media: A Blessing Or A Curse? by sabiarea: 12:02pm On Apr 16, 2019

With the advent of the internet and the birth of social media platforms from Yahoo Messenger or 2go of old to the recent and popular ones such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram etc a lot of people have become connected in seconds yet still far apart.

This begs the question, is social media a blessing or a curse?

For us here, we feel like every thing in life, social media platforms have their pros and cons it all depends on usage (the user and audience).

With social media platforms in Nigeria people have been able to expose the ills of the society to millions in just a post, it has also been used (and still in use) as a platform to cry for help for persons who are down health-wise and needs assistance .

Social media platforms have also played the role as a watch-dog of the society when videos and stories of assaults ranging from domestic to police brutality etc have and are being brought to light daily to the notice of the public and constituted authorities (we do not know if it has given the needed change).

However, it is still a platform used to lure innocent and naive Nigerians to either losing their lives via “ritual killings” or getting duped.
