ASUU: FG withdraws ultimatum on december 10, 2013 at 8:01 pm in news *Shows proof of lodgment of N200bn University fund By Henry Umoru ABUJA – THE Federal Government , Tuesday, said it was withdrawing the ultimatum given to striking university lecturers to resume or be sacked following appeals from well-meaning Nigerians and substantial compliance with the directive by some members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. According to the Federal Government, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has confirmed that a sum of two hundred billion Naira agreed with ASUU at a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on the 5th of November ,2013 has been fully paid into a Revitalization of Universities Infrastructure Account. Addressing Journalists, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe who showed to newsmen the CBN letter which was signed by the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Tunde Lemo and addressed to the Accountant General of the Federation, confirmed that the total sum of two hundred billion Naira was the balance in the account as required. Okupe who noted that what the federal government was interested in was how to resolve the six month old crisis in a peaceful manner for the overall interest of all concerned, said, “right now, the issue of ultimatum is not a matter for discussion anymore. There has been substantial compliance nationwide. If I say you must return to work on the 9th and 70% of the people that I am talking to have returned to work, that is substantial compliance. |

Dr2great: from ur user name,i can simply decipher u are an ignoramus.,u are juveniling deliquent.,gej is fighting no war.,how wil u say a leader war wit his followers? Gej is a father to ASUU.,and a father take care of his children even thou they are stubborn.,dat's one quality of a true father. That's what gej is trying to do to ASUU. Guy pls go to schit would be quite degrading to reply you after reading this trash..your diction sucks..all thesame, we've gotten your point, now go read for your WASSCE... |

What do u really want frm him? Ok tell us what u want him to do as per ASUU strike? Guy u no well at alli agree say i dull,, bt u r a capital FOOL...a man who eats his words has no honour n integrity..a leader must be resolute...till d strike is called off, he is just a coward.. |

Artery: Sagaciousblog, I myself don't know if UI keeps to their no catchment policy, but if you're basing your assertion on the fact that there are more Yorubas in the school than any other tribe, I'd say you consider that the school is in the West & it's only natural for people to apply for admission to schools that are close to them, & Yoruba is a pretty large tribe. As for UNIBEN having more students from Igbo etc, remember Edo is just one state, & the state is close to the Igbo states, so you'd have many Igbos applying to study there. This is same as UNIPORT. In Edo, Lagos & Rivers states, you find that the common language of communication is pidgin, so you'd find people from other states applying to UNIBEN, UNILAG & UNIPORT where they won't have that language & custom constraint when relating with the university community & the indigenes, the reason you find all tribes in these schools in almost equal proportion. This is unlike in Oyo & some other states in the West where they speak Yoruba even in formal settings. People are more comfortable relating with one of their own. The school having more of Yorubas than any other tribe is not a very tangible reason to say that they don't keep to the no catchment policy. No. You sef reason am.i have been to most of the top notch western schools like ui, oau, ilorin et all and i can tell u none of them is as fair and transparent as uniben...uniben post d.e is just piece of cake with majority English bt dat doesnt mean every applicant wud be admitted o.the choice is urs |
Artery: Thanks for commenting, sagaciousblog. Y did u say so? Can u throw more light? I'll appreciate ur input.Although u wud say ui has no catchment..i beg to differ cos dats only in theory..check any of their admission list and tell me the first 20 or 30 names if they are nt Westerners. firstly, in uniben you write d.e exam and once u r above d cutoff, u r sure of admission, does ui write entrance exam?if no, den its based on luck thus gamble..secondly, uniben distributes admission witout ethnic or tribal sentiments.. just go to any department in uniben n u wud see igbos, yourubas delta et all and in some cases, the edos are usually minority in class..lastly, i tink if u can obtain such cgpa in ur first degree, then passing uniben d.e exam shud be nothing to u...you can also check out dentistry and dental surgery sha.. |
Artery: I didn't apply 4 Msc o! 1st of all, I didn't knw wat 2 do wit my course. 2ndly, if I were 2 apply 4 MSc, it wuld hv bn my course & my sch, bt my sch had NUC suspend d dept's accreditation jus ds yr. As admission has ended 4 ds year, anytn abt any other application wuld hv 2 b till nxt yr. Bt if I still hv d motivation 2 apply again, it wuld still b mbbs, because urs truly is lukin at d marketability of any course he wuld b goin 4, u knw d Nigerian situation right nw. Afta 4 yrs studying a course & spending some time job hunting, one wuld hv had some experience 2 knw whch courses are marketable in d job market & whch courses are nt so marketable. I applied 2 UI because it's abt d only sch dt doesn't hv particular catchment areas, d whole of Nigeria is its catchment area, & it has d highest quota 4 mbbs of all schs, bt nw u see hw dey surprised us.uniben wud av been a sure bet |

No Qualms: Fake lecturers...... I'm sure someone paid them to say the rubbish they are saying...... Are they not supposed to be intellectuals? How can they say ASUU is giving out new demands if not that they are not in their right senses.you just said my mind..i wish i could gun those lecturers down for betrayal.. |
In recent times, we've seen the Association of health workers embark in a strike after FG failed to honor an agreement it had with them. We've seen Nasu embark in a strike due the same dishonorable attitude. You want ASUU to call-off the strike based on the words of this same govt? Once beaten, twice shy! Let the NLC, TUC, finance minister and cbn governor append their signature on the damn document and schools will reopen.
you are so on point jor...1million likes... |
