Not many of us remember the Yoruba soldiers who fought gallantly on the side of Biafra. This is a quick attempt to remember some of them now.
1.Lt Col Victor Banjo
He was one of the first graduates to join the army alongside Ojukwu and others. The two were best of friends according to public records and individual accounts. When Ojukwu released the January 15 coup suspects in the Eastern region after the revenge coup ,Banjo stayed in the government house with him while the rest were accommodated elsewhere in Independent Layout,Enugu. Banjo led the 3,000 strong Biafran brigade known as the "Liberation Army of Nigeria" and also called the "Midwest Expeditionary Force" in the planned invasion of Lagos. His forces reached Benin within 12 hours on August 9,1967.By this time,Nigerian forces had captured Biafran towns of Obudu, Garkem,Ogoja, Nsukka heading to Enugu and Bonny, heading to Port Harcourt. Banjo's arguments with Ojukwu resulted in fatal tactical delays in Benin and Ore enroute Lagos for several days.He was recalled back to Enugu alongside his deputy and Quartermaster;Major Ifeajuna,court-martialed and executed with 3 others in September 1967. Lt Col Banjo was the highest ranking Yoruba in the Biafran army.
2.Major Wale Ademoyega
One of the five majors that toppled the government of Balewa on January 15,1966,he was released from Warri prison during the Midwest invasion in August 1967 by a battalion led by Major Chukwuka; another of the five Jan 15 majors. He first commanded the Biafra newly reorganised 19th Battalion but replaced Ifeajuna as the "Liberation Army" Quartermaster General when he(Ifeajuna) was recalled back to Enugu with his commander;Col Banjo. Ademoyega wrote a book on the Jan 15 coup titled Why We Struck. He was arrested by federal soldiers after the war, faced the military commission and was detained until October 1974.
3.Capt Ganiyu Adeleke.
He was one of the Jan 15 officers released by Ojukwu. He cordinated the Biafra 18 Battalion at Onitsha as Infantry Company commander with Major Chukwuka in readiness for the Midwest invasion. He distinguished himself in the charge toward Ore and later become an instructor at the Biafra School of Infantry. When other Biafran soldiers who took part in the Midwest invasion were released from prison in 1974 after Gowon granted them pardon, Capt Adeleke,Lt Col Ochei and "Col Hannibal"Achuzia were exempted from pardon and remained imprisoned.
4.Lt Fola Oyewole
He also joined in setting up the Biafra 18th Battalion at Onitsha and commanded the D Company that liberated Ughelli, parts of Sapele and Warri during the Midwest expedition. Lt Oyewole is one of the first soldier to write a very instructive book on the civil war titled the Reluctant Rebel. It is a credible account of the civil war from the eyes of an active Biafran army commander who is not from the East. Oyewole is also one of the Biafran soldiers detained by the federal government after the war and released in 1974.
Note:
Other notable Yoruba who opposed the federal government on the Biafra war include but not limited to: 1.Wole Soyinka 2.Tai Solarin 3.Prof Hezekiah Oluwasanmi;former Vice Chancellor of OAU Ife (1966-1975)
The pictures below are arranged in line with the arrangement of the article with only Capt. Adeleke missing in the pictures

exlink10: Rare Photos From Chelsea Dressing Room After Beating West Brom To Clinch EPL Title
Is all round jubilation for Chelsea Football Club as they were crowned Premier League champions today with the help of Michy Batshuayi's late goal in 82nd minute. The lone goal gave them the victory they required to secure the title at West Brom.
They still have two matches to play but mathematically, Tottenham which is the closest club, can't catch them any longer. These are rare images from Chelsea FC dressing room as they take their celebration to next level.

robosky02: Has Victor Moses done enough to win the African Footballer of the Year 2017?
last night victor Moses helped his club to win the English premiership for the 2016/2017 season. thus crowning a blissful year for both club and country. it will be recalled that Moses has reinvented and reestablish himself in Anthony Contes' team. he was one of the only 6 players to have started most number of games. and in the super eagles team he has also been a key figue in dislodging Zambia and Algeria no doubts he has done well.
but the question is, do you think this is enough to make him win the African Footballer of the Year for 2017?
who will give him a fight?
as for Kanu a former winner of the title and Arsenal legend he believes Victor Moses has done enough.
Some may think he hasn't done enough. However said, which African footballer can compete with his form this season. fill this form and pass on to others as I have done. https:///forms/F3ETBfNxv27DvOkk2
Papzey: Chelsea Football club of London, England have won the 2016/2017 English Premier League with two games to spare. All thanks to Coach Antonio Conte's masterclass.
After a dismal performance last footballing season that got Jose Mourinho a sack, Conte came in and did the impossible. Chelsea had ended 10th last season, and now they are Champions.
There was a lot of new cool stories, as Chelsea added former blues, David Luiz, Ngolo Kante, Marcos Alonso, and Michy Batshuayi. Victor Moses rejoined the Chelsea squad after three seasons on loan, and Nathan Ake was recalled from Bournemouth load midway through the season.
Victor Moses became a sweet revelation as Conte switched into a 3-4-3 formation after been beaten by Liverpool and Arsenal. Since those matches, Chelsea only lost twice to Tottenham and Crystal Palace, having won thirteen matches consecutively, a record breaking feat.
Ngolo Kante was also very instrumental, and he proved to be a great addition to the squad alongside Luiz and Alonso. The French man has already been awarded with the PFA and FWA Best Player of the year. He scored an incredible goal against Manchester united earlier in the season. He was Champions with Leicester last season, and now with Chelsea again - the first player to do so.
Alonso and Moses have had wonderful seasons too. They both played the left and right wingbacks, and scored goals going forward as well. The Conte system got them very illustrious. The Nigerian man, Moses, already thanked Conte for believing in him. He is now a strong contender for the CAF and BBC African Player of the year award for 2017.
Oscar and Mikel Obi were sold mid-season to Chinese clubs, but both will get their EPL winners' medal having started the season with Chelsea. Batchuayi aka Batman was the premier league Champions goalscorer against Westbrom last night. He can console himself with that having been on the bench for most of the season.
Diego Costa has been fantastic too, even though he lost form for a bit after the Chinese clubs offers that reportedly came for him in January. He has 20 EPL goals to his name. Fabregas who has only started 12 matches for Conte's side has been phenomenal too. He is regarded as Santa with his goal assists record. He had 11 assists already this season more than any other EPL players.
Eden Hazard was key this season as usual. Though, Willian had to come from the bench for most of the season, he still had many defining moments. Gary Cahill and Matic was instrumental too, defending deep when they had to, and also getting on the score sheet. Azpilicueta who should have made the PFA EPL Best 11 was the most hardworking Chelsea player this season. Keeper Courtois also delivered when he was called. Pedro won the goal of the week with his game changing goal against Everton. He has flashes of these beautiful goals all season, as he scored a sweet screamer against Tottenham too. John Terry who leaves at the end of this season was widely celebrated by the Chelsea fans too.
Chelsea have one more trophy to fight for, and that is the English FA cup, and it would be against Arsenal at Wembley in few weeks time. Congratulations to ChelseaFC, the 16/17 English Premier Champions! That is their 6th EPL Title!

First discovered in Oloibiri, a village in the creeks of Niger-Delta, crude oil or black gold as nicknamed in comparison with the precious metal has been a source of controversy for many years, as regards its impact on the development and general economy of the Nigerian nation. Many a pundit has fruitfully argued that oil has been more of a curse than a blessing to Nigeria. Others are of the opinion that oil can never be a curse, since it has brought riches and fame to this part of the world. Whether oil is a curse or a blessing depends on the spectacle through which one chooses to view the entire phenomena behind the three (3) lettered word.
The oil boom, over four (4) decades ago, has brought about dramatic increase in revenue generation and further brought the country in to limelight as the largest producer of oil in sub-Saharan Africa. According to the oil and gas journal, the Nigerian government has received over 500 billion US dollars in oil and gas revenues over the last forty five (45) years. During this time, Nigeria was globally recognised as the largest exporter of crude oil in Africa and was ranked sixth (6th) largest exporter in the world, and as such the country has gained a louder voice in the community of nations.
However, despite the huge wealth and fame it has brought, oil has also brought misery, wretchedness, woes and war. Even with the prodigious revenue realised as the proceeds of oil exploration and processing, Nigeria has over the years sustain a progressively elevated level of abject paucity, underdevelopment, augmented corruption as well as total and senseless defilement of the natural environment. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 112.519 million Nigerians live in horrible poverty as at 2012, and a 2014 report by World Bank put the Nigeria’s poverty rate at 33.1%.
The quest and subsequent exploration of oil has brought about issues of environmental degradation, which has continued to leave sour spots across many oil communities. Ogoniland, which until recently was left in anguish as a result of oil spillage, is an example of communities that have suffered serious damages. Many plants and animals species, which are extremely beneficial to man, are day-by-day being confronted with imminent danger of extinction due to the action of harmful chemicals and other hazards, associated with oil drilling and processing. Gas flaring, another lethal operation in crude oil refining has in no small measure polluted the ambient air with carcinogenic and a good number of other deadly substances, beyond the threshold limit value (TLV), thereby rendering it unsafe for inhalation, and at the same time increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases, which are responsible for the incessant warming of the globe. While oil may arguably be a decent source of revenue, the impairment it causes to the environment cannot be quantified in monetary value.
The decline in the competitiveness of other economic sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing was also as a result of the oil boom. The unearthing of oil has deterred us from painstaking planning needed to craft a robust economy that will provide job for our teeming population, generate reasonable revenue for the government and earn the country sufficient foreign exchange. Agriculture which the country was widely known for, prior to the advent of the black gold has now virtually fizzled out, and we have become radical importers of all sorts of foods. The groundnut pyramid in the north and the colossal farming of cocoa in the south have all, to some extent, largely owed their disappearance to the overdependence on oil revenue.
Another woe associated with oil is war. Severe internal crises have continued to thrive in most oil producing communities. The immediate and remote cause of militancy in these regions is nothing but oil. The people of these regions feel marginalised in sharing the resources they considered theirs, and hence their decision to take up arms against the perceived biggest beneficiaries of the oil proceeds.
Even with all these atrocities perpetrated as a consequence of oil, it will amount to blasphemy for one to out rightly infer that “oil is a curse than a blessing”. As countered by many, it is the management of this resource that is a curse rather than the oil itself. But without oil, perhaps one wouldn’t have to bother about the management.
it is a blessing. we only had leaders whose personal gain overided their interest in nations development, thereby abandoning other sector of the economy that could as well provide earnings and employment for the country thereby improving the living standard of people.

Someone is definitely not doing his job. How can Induction be held since August 2016? And they have requested for LSS awardees account number since dec. 2016 after issuing out award letter? Meaning the fund has been disbursed by the FG at the same time with the OSS awardees. Moreso the OSS awardees school fees has been paid since October, 2016 while still withholding the LSS awardees school fees. My opinion is some croonies in PTDF must have embezzled the fund in a fixed deposit account.
When will this corruption end, even when we are in Change regime?
Mathemagics: When Growing Nigeria in Nigeria by Nigerians is Failing: A case study of PTDF LSS scholarship 2015/2016
As one of the awardees of the prestigious PTDF scholarship, I felt welcomed and proud to be standing tall amongst some of Nigeria’s brightest minds during the three day (15th-17th July, 2016) induction ceremony held at the PTDF towers in Abuja. However, as the induction ceremony drew to a close, many of the local scholarship awardees(LSS Scholars) including me, noticed a dichotomy in the ways affairs of the LSS and OSS (Overseas scholarship) schemes were been handled.
While we were waved goodbyes after the induction ceremony, preparation and travel plans were being made for our fellow scholars to be flown abroad. Many of us understood the urgency in trying to finalize travel plans for the foreign scholars - as school resumption was due in September,2016. However, some of the LSS scholars too were in similar predicament – as it was mandatory for LSS applicants to be student or admitted into any of a few selected schools across the nation at the time of application (October, 2015), so during the time of induction many of the local awardees were close to the completion of their graduate studies in some of the nation’s most prestigious Universities in Nigeria.
It is sad to state that while many of the LSS scholars brandish award letters from PTDF, some have had their results ceased by their institutions pending when PTDF pays their tuition. Whereas, most of the OSS scholars have had their fees (tuition and living expenses) paid in part or in full as far back as November, 2016, despite the outrageously high Forex rate. Meanwhile, Students schooling in Nigeria can only hold on to a Pseudo-Believe that “one day PTDF will pay”.
We want to use this medium to urge those in charge to overcome whatever bureaucratic bottlenecks that has hindered the processing of funds for the local scholars for months and to bring to the attention of well meaning Nigerians the challenges we face. Otherwise, this scholarship may tread the pathetic path of neglect similar scholarships and youth empowerment programs have witnessed in past. The Presidential scholarship (PRESSID 2015) and Youwin Batch 3 are notable examples. Hence, we need no more delay in the payment of our funds.
Sincerely,
Concerned LSS Awardee

The deal has been made for Agip and she'll to pay malabu. Is it not the right thing for the president to support his own. How does supporting your own goes against the interest of Nigeria? All this white people stealing from us from time immemorial. Atleast the money should first be paid to malabu since that's the deal. Then afterward efcc can start investigating malabu.
Aufbauh: The fortunato aka the ineffectual buffoon has taught us that anyone can become the president but not everyone should be.
Heavance: To pay them 40% of what developing nations pay students again abi? I wonder why we keep classifying this country as a developing nation sef
Nigeria is not a developed nation. South Africa is the only Africa country that has meet the criteria to be a developed nation. Check CNN international#

What nonsense are you people spitting out. While I was serving in Niger state in 2013, the train was working perfectly. Train fromm kano through minna, jeba, oshogbo, ibadan, abeokuta to Lagos. I enter train to Lagos from minna. Ac cabin, vip and economic.
I wonder which kind money they are lying on paper. To be spending on rail project.
Which kind of govt. Is this. Lie lie government. Are the citizens not aware the country was so bad and that was why Change was voted. Now change is a night mare to Nigerians. Work..that was why change was voted. Now you have kept the country in a worse situation. Shame to all the citizens that voted this Government.
mrvitalis: Oil is at $51 per barrel and our production cost ia around $25 per barrel oya subtract that multiple that by 0.55 now thats how much we make and thats shared between states federal and local government And 13% of that gos to the oil producing states, another percentage is given to NDDC.. So u really see how the cash is shared? ?
Guy..you don't understand what you are saying. First of all JV is 60:40 for NNPC:IOC not 55:45..also royalty which is around 15-20% is paid on gross revenue not Net revenue..then thirdly 13% of the royalty is what goes to state, local and community leadership. Finally, the IOC's paid a certain percentage from their pocket to NDDC not directly from the FG. In Conclusion, you can see that federal govt. Earn from tax, royalty and 60% JV.
In the US, mineral right is such that when you find oil in front of your house in a lay man term, you bare the exploration, development and production cost. You pay only tax to the government no royalty is paid to govt.
