saintjoel:Good morning folks, The Federal operations unit at Harvey road have been stopped from processing custom duty for vehicles already I'm NIGERIA AND fresh entries from Cotonou. The only command working as at 0838HRS is the kwara/Niger CG command of the Nigerian Customs. The kwara/Niger command might also shutdown in a matter of hours/days and that will be the end of custom duty processing/rectification etc for vehicles already IN NIGERIA fresh entries from Cotonou. The F. G has promised to open SEME border but when,we don't know. If you have any outstanding documents to process, it'll be better they're done now to prevent "hanging entries" when the command "ASSYCUDA " unit is shutdown. A military professionalism & effectiveness depends on three tiers; DOCTRINE, EQUIPMENT & TRAINING. In the ongoing CION war against BHT in the north east ,there are two arms of the armed forces that are basically involved in the fight against the islamic sect BH. What do you think that these two arms of the military should be doing that they are not doing well or not doing at all in regards to doctrine, equipment & training. And how can the government and security council come in terms of security funds/budget and other support. your contribution please... DOCTRINE - PASS MARK TRAINING - PASS MARK EQUIPMENTS - A LOT NEEDS TO BE DONE. ARMY - THE ARMY NEEDS MORE MORTAR,ARTILLERY PIECES, PERIMETER DEFENSE WEAPONS LIKE CLAYMORE ETC , AT LEAST INTRA SQUAD RADIOS,NIGHT VISION GOGGLES, M. R. E (MEALS READY TO EAT) , AT LEAST A SQUAD AUTOMATIC WEAPON LIKE THE GPMG OR RPK TO AT LEAST A GUNNER TO EVERY FIVE SOLDIERS AND A DEDICATED AIR WING WITH NIGHT FLYING CAPABILITIES. ALL THESE CAN BE UTILISED AND WE WILL STOP LOOSING SMALL UNITS THAT DON'T HAVE MRAPS OR ARMOURED VEHICLES TO ASSIST THEM. PERIMETER DEFENCE WEAPONS LIKE CLAYMORE OR MINES CAN BE DEPLOYED ROUND THEIR PERIMETER TO SLOW DOWN ENEMY FORCES. THE AMERICAN FORCES EVEN USE WHAT THEY CALL "FOO GASS", A DEADLY MIXTURE OF "PETROL AND DIESEL" POURED IN DRUMS AND BURIED INCHES BELOW THE GROUND ROUND THEIR PERIMETER. WITH THE PERIMETER SECURED WITH PERSONAL DEFENSE WEAPONS, EACH SOLDIER WITH AN INTRA SQUAD RADIO CAN RELAY MESSAGES TO THE C.O WITHOUT HAVING TO LEAVE HIS POSITION WHILE THE C.O USES HIS MAIN RADIO TO CONTACT THE AIRFORCE,DIVISION/BATTALION COMMANDER FOR ARTILLERY SUPPORT OR REENFORCEMENT. MORE MORTAR OR ARTILLERY PIECES WILL ENABLE EVEN SMALLER UNITS DEFEND THEMSELVES BY LAUNCHING EXPLOSIVES INTO A PRE-CORDINATED FIRE PATTERNS TO COVER THEM IN A WALL OF STEEL. EVEN TWO ARTILLERY PIECES CAN PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR JUST FOUR MEN TILL REENFORCEMENT ARRIVE TO SUPPORT THEM. MORTARS TOO WILL GO A LONG WAY IN SUPPORTING UNITS TOO. SPECIAL FORCES CAN EVEN DEPLOY BEHIND ENEMY LINES WITH PREDETERMINED ARTY SUPPORT BARRAGE AND PERIMETER DEFENSE WEAPONS. EVEN IF A WAY IS FOUND TO PRESERVE MEALS,LIKE JOBITEX DID YEARS BACK, THEY'LL JUST NEED TO DEPLOY IN BEHIND ENEMY LINES OR ZONES, GATHER INFORMATION FOR DAYS AND A COPTER WILL PICK THEM AFTER DAYS OF OBSERVATION. IF THEY'RE DISCOVERED,ARTY UNITS CAN COVER THEIR WITHDRAWAL TO A SAFER PICKUP SPOT. IT WILL GO A LONG WAY IN HELPING THEM CAPTURE TOP BHT. THE SQUAD AUTO WEAPONS GIVES INCREASED FIREPOWER TO THE MEN EVEN WHEN THERE'S NO ARMOUR AND A NIGHT VISION GOOGLE TO EACH MAN ON THE FIELD ALSO INCREASES THEIR CAPABILITIES TO FIGHT EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF NIGHTS. BARB WIRES CAN ALSO BE DEPLOYED FOR PERIMETER DEFENSE. AIRFORCE - THE AIRFORCE NEEDS MORE PLATFORMS WITH NIGHT FLYING CAPABILITIES. THE JF17 AND TUCANO DEALS, WE'VE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. THEY NEED MORE PLATFORMS AND FAST RESPONSE TIME TO HELP SOLDIERS UNDER ATTACK. |

:Ships & Ports on May 22, 2017 Clearing agents associations form alliance to address operational challenges The two major industry freight forwarding associations, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) have agreed to form a partnership, ANLCA/NAGAFF Initiative (ANI) in order to present a common front in addressing operational challenges. Speaking during his official visit to the headquarters of NAGAFF at the weekend, President of ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu said the past situation where the two associations had been looking at things from different perspective was doing a lot of damage to the industry and members of the associations. According to him, those with exploitative tendencies have been feeding fat on the disunity between the two associations whose members often bore the brunt of the impunity which characterised anomalies in the system. He said with the new partnership, both associations will be able to address the anomalies which includes extortion and impunity by customs and other government agencies, which are militating against the ease of doing business and making Nigerian ports uncompetitive. “After a careful analysis and scrutiny of the situation in the industry, the leadership of the two associations through divine inspiration, have come to realize that enough is enough in the interest of the future of the industry and our dear country because people are benefitting from the division between us. “Now that we have now seen the light, we have now come together to address the anomalies we have identified, anomalies being perpetrated by government agencies at the ports and land borders. Unfortunately, these conducts militate against our ports being competitive and friendly and above all militating against the ease of doing business,” he said. Shittu identified issuance of different alerts by customs, absence of functional scanners, delay in writing reports even after completion of physical examination and mounting of road blocks by officials of the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), thereby inhibiting smooth trade flow as factors militating against trade facilitation. He pledged to sustain the ANLCA/NAGAFF Initiative even to the point where his successor will not reverse it. Earlier, Acting President of NAGAFF, Increase Uche said the alliance will help in cementing the ties between the two associations and formed the foundation for better working relationship that would fast track the development of the freight forwarding and customs brokerage profession. He said both associations would work to recover the Council for the Regulation of Freight forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) and ensure that it carries out its statutory mandate for which it was established. He said, “Had it been we have not seen the need to collaborate and form this alliance of this kind, one would have wondered how the plan by some elements proposing the amendment of the CRFFN Act would have been handled. This again goes to buttress the need to sustain this initiative and perfect the union because there is strength in unity.” The day the two parent bodies agreed to work together,is the day agents from both factions overcame obstacles and exhortion by government agencies. |

saintjoel:The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said it would raise N4.3 billion to reconstruct access roads around Apapa Port as port operators withdrew services over poor infrastructure. Notwithstanding this promise however, clearing agents and truck operators who are on strike to protest the poor state of the port access roads have remained adamant, saying they were yet to see concrete evidence that government was ready to address their grievances. The Managing Director of NPA, Hadiza Usman, told a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos on Monday that NPA would provide N1.8 billion while Dangote Group and Flour Mills would provide N2.5 billion. The NPA convened the stakeholders’ meeting to bring back operators who withdrew their services from the port. “We have received a proposal for Corporate Social Responsibility of N2.5 billion from Dangote Group and Flour Mills for the full reconstruction of port roads. “The reconstruction entails full drainage service and the total cost of the Apapa port access roads project is N4.3 billion. “The two entities are willing to provide N2.5 billion, while NPA will pay the remaining N1.8 billion to ensure that the roads are done,” Usman said. NPA Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman and Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council, Hassan Bello inspecting the port access roads in Apapa, Lagos yesterday. The NPA boss said that the reconstruction would begin within one month, adding that she would ensure speedy completion of the project. She said that the Federal Ministry of Works would request the approval of Federal Executive Council to obtain the necessary approvals for NPA to embark on the project. Usman said NPA has asked the Federal Ministry of Works to provide the final engineering design and costing to enable it embark on the reconstruction of the Creek road and Liverpool road later this year. “I feel concerned about the deplorable state of these roads and I communicated at a meeting with the minister that we are willing to fund these roads irrespective of which agency of government is doing it,” she said. Usman said that the management of NPA would make provision for an annual budget for the reconstruction of the roads. She urged the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently complete the reconstruction of Coconut-Mile 2 road in Lagos. Usman said that NPA would seek permission of the Federal Ministry of Works to complete the holding bay under the Public Private Partnership arrangement. Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala Usman (second left); National Publicity Secretary, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Kayode Farinto (centre) and other stakeholders on the Apapa ports access road yesterday. According to the NPA boss, the congestion around Apapa and Tin Can Island ports was due to lack of an effective holding bay, trailer parks and non-reconstruction of ports roads in Lagos. Usman commended the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Hassan Bello, for dialoguing with port operators who had protested poor infrastructure at the port. Speaking earlier, Bello stressed the need for regular dialogue with stakeholders on issues militating against port operations. He pleaded with the port users to suspend the withdrawal of their services and await the outcome of the initiatives of the NPA management. Also speaking, the Chairman Corporate Fleet Truck Association, Mrs. Folake Soji-George, urged NPA to compel security agencies to stop tanker drivers from using one-way roads. Soji-George said that security agencies should be committed to their duties by ensuring the free flow of traffic to reduce the time of doing business at the ports. National Publicity Secretary, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Kayode Farinto, said the strike action embarked upon by the truckers and licensed customs agents, which paralysed port activities on Monday, would continue until their full demands, which include repepair of the port access, reduction of Customs units at the ports and a commitment by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to reduce the hardship posed to port users in the clearance of their cargoes, are fully met. While we await the directive of our ALNCA that all licensed agents should go on strike, jelad ventures will be operating from kwara border and Harvey road. We are still waiting for government's directive on seme border TOO, so that outstanding jobs can be done. |
saintjoel:With this directive from ANLCA,which is our parent body as directed all licensed agents to go on strike. Jelad ventures will only be working out of kwara border and Harvey road till when the strike ends. |
