bravolad:THERE ARE ACTUAL DEALERS WITH CLEAN TITLED CARS WITH THE RIGHT ODOMETER BUT THEY TEND TO BE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE ONES WITH ONE OR TWO ISSUES. THE REASON WHY DAN AND EMILLE WORK WITH IS JUST THAT DAN KNOWS HOW TO CHECK A CAR AND WITHIN RUNNING A VIN CHECK, HE KNOWS IF THE CAR HAS MAJOR/MINOR ISSUES WHILE EMILLE IS ALSO A QUALIFIED MECHANIC TOO. WITH THE RISING COST OF EXCHANGE RATES AND CLEARING,CUSTOMERS SOMETIMES SEARCH FOR CARS WITH MINOR ISSUES COS IT'S CHEAPER THAN A CLEAN TITLED CAR, IT'S ONLY WHEN THEY CAN REALLY AFFORD,WHENEVER YOU TELL PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS THAT EVEN IN AMERICA, CLEAN TITLED CARS ARE ALWAYS EXPENSIVE,THEY THINK THAT YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND AT THE END OF THEIR TRIP INTO COTONOU, THEY TEND TOBSPEND MORE THAN THEY BARGAINED FOR. I HAD THESE ARGUMENTS WITH A PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER AND AFTER ALL THE INSULTS, HE FELL INTI THE HANDS OF THE "CUSTOM AUCTION SCAMMERS" AND BELIEVE ME, IT'S ALWAYS A HUGE TASK TRYING TO GET BARGAINS FOR CLEAN TITLED CARS BUT WE'VE ALWAYS TRIED TO BE ABOVE BOARD..

bravolad:THE REASON I QUARELLED WITH DANIEL WAS BORNE OUT OF THE FACT THAT WE WILL NEVER INFLUENCE ANY CUSTOMER DURING THE PURCHASE PROCESS, THAT WAS WHY I INSISTED THAT YOU RUN THE CHECKS YOURSELF.THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL CASES WHERE CUSTOMERS WILL GET BACK TO NIGERIA AND TELL PEOPLE THAT IT WAS THE AGENT THAT TOLD HIM TO BUY A CAR, WHENEVER HE FLOUTS THAT RULE,HE ALWAYS BELIEVES THAT BECAUSE HE'S MY UNCLE, I SHOULDN'T CALL HIM TO ORDER AND I'M SO SORRY THAT THE SCENE WAS IN YOUR PRESENCE. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO RUN VIN CHECKS, WE CAN RUN CHECKS FOR CUSTOMERS BUT THE DECISION TO PURCHASE/NOT TO PURCHASE IS LEFT TO THEM.... |

bravolad:Nearly had an heart attack when I saw a mention on Nairaland and sincerely, I'm also waiting for whatever the OP has to say about his experience cos I've sent SMS to various clients I've worked with recently and none has told me he's the OP. Whatever that the OP has to say, positive or negative, it's going to add more to my experience as a licensed customs' agent and also help my relations with old and prospective clients. I also apologise in advance (as much as my heart is still beating faster than normal) for all negatives that might have come from my ineractions with the OP. Despite the challenges of fluctuations in exchange rate, unfriendly custom policies and sharp practices, I've tried to keep JELAD ventures above board cos a customer lost today can multiply into 10 lost customers tomorrow and I'll keep doing that till eternity... .... Thanks. |

Billiondoe:Which point of entry sir? |
suretx:N350,000 |
sultaan:That's what you should have stated right from the onset, the system is warped and the corruption started from the larger NIGERIAN society. If people didn't exploit the opportunities they were given,NCS won't mount patrols on the highways and agents won't SHORTPAY . Customs are just using them to raise revenue for the government cos it pays them if you SHORTPAY cos if you're cut, you'll still pay extra with fine into the governemnt coffers,so who loses? In a Nigerian society where people don't even want to pay electricity bills, you now want to stop them from shortpaying customs duty... |
sultaan:That's why you need to be trained as an agent and if you care to know, the tariff is fixed when ministry of finance staff, custom officials and agents. KEMI ADEOSUN, the minister of finance was at the seme border last month to liase with agents and custom officials. The ministry of finance comes up with an assumed value for your frieght or vehicle and transfers to the valuation units of NCS where agents and agencies have to go in order to obtain bank charges, which means if you're not a trained agent, you can't obtain those values. If you feel that you want to know more, gather money and register an agency, go for the training and start operations... Seriously, I don't know your fixation with agents and what they do for a living, these are people that have been in existence since 1954 and have been running operations around ports and land borders. Part of what importers have gained from the agent body is the four year reduction policy, if you as an importer is told to pay for the actual year,do you think you'll be able to afford a luxury car, ship and pay duties, the problems we're having is just that some importers and agents are abusing this policy . If ANCLA is cancelled today as a body and importers are allowed to clear frieght themselves, so you SULTAAN believe that Nigerians won't cut corners or do you think Zimbabweans are saints when it comes to corruption even if they're still learners besides Nigerians. Instead of facing the larger society, you're trying to isolate agents as if we're wicked souls. Zimbabwe is a member of IFCBA cos they've SFAAZ (THE SHIPPING AND FORWARDING AGENTS ASSOCIATION OF ZIMBABWE) with Mr Nyaruwanga as its president with major frieght forwarders like BEACON, ARI-FRIEGHT, AVIOCEAN, LOKOMOTIVE LOGISTICS, SMART, MAPLE FRIEGHT ETC as major stakeholders.Even in republic of Benin, many nairalanders that have worked with me will know my representative at the Cotonou end, he's shown in the fourth pic representing us in the freight forwarders conference in Cotonou. Can you leave your work to shuffle papers for your import, shuffle through Nafdac, son, sss, bomb squad, quarantine, port health, customs. Can you stay days without going to work so that you can monitor your container at the port or trucks at land borders and also shuffle papers at the same time, can you stand the stress of late nights keeping watch over your vehicles and frieght even in transit,do you know how many we get beaten by soldiers, customs and even touts on the road while you, the importer is sleeping in your bed and you'll still raise hell when you wake up to discover some items are missing. I'm still on the road as I'm typing this just because I'm trying to monitor some trucks till they get to our warehouse at okokomaiko and when someone does all of these, you expect the person not to be paid abi? I don't have anything against you bro but as long as frieght moves across our ports and land borders, agents will always be at work, the onus lies on you to look for a reliable one.

sultaan:UNLIKE WHAT YOU MAY DECIDE TO BELIEVE,REGISTERED AGENTS ARE RECOGNISED BY THE CONSTITUTION OF NIGERIA AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL BODIES.ASKING WHY AGENTS ARE OPERATING AT LAND BORDERS OR PORTS IS LIKE YOU ASKING WHY FRSC USES SAFETY MARSHALS OR EFCC USES POLICEMEN AS ESCORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU PREFER,THAT WHARF RATS TAKE OVER OUR PORTS OR WHAT.....LIKE I'VE STATED EARLIER,IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO LEARN HOW TO OPERATE AN AGENCY OR BECOME AN AGENT.. |
sultaan:Seems you've issues with agents and nothing stops you from raising almost N5m+ to register an agency with Nigerian customs if you so much desire to know about agents. Let me take pains to lecture you about NAGAFF AND ANCLA, the two registered associations that regulate the operations of agents nationwide. I'm a registered member of ANCLA, an associate member and I ply my trade at apapa, seme and idiroko. So you can see that agents are not acting on the own voilition,we operate within the government rules... ANCLA was established in 1954,RC 6754 and it's recognized by agent bodies all around the world.. IT'S RECOGNISED BY THE CRFFN (COUNCIL FOR THE REGULATION OF FREIGHT FORWARDING IN NIGERIA) AND IFCBA (INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF CUSTOMS BROKERS ASSOCIATION),INFACT IFCBA'S LAST CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN SHANGAI, CHINA AFOUND 17 MAY, 2016. biggiyke: biggiyke:Haa,that agent na correct thief and you should've sort a second opinion before payment. Also paying the fine would've been cheaper if you had gone back to a land border, bank charges alone for a 2012 x3 should've been between 1,000,000 - 1,200,000. I don't have a copy of the new tariff at hand but a copy of the old tariff is shown below, 2012 minus four or five years will be 2007/2008,what he should've done was to pay around N1m+.. I guess his fear was borne out of the fear every agent has, if I tell that they will need to pay XYZ amount, won't they give the job to another agent that has charged lower. Many dealers/end users, friends or relatives will cut corners and handover peanuts for the agents to work with and the poor agent with mouths to feed at home will run the papers with what he has been given. Most jobs that I've lost since January have been because of bank charges, you tell customers to pay N450,000 as bank charges and before you know it, another agent has got the job less than what you charge but the gullible importer has forgotten that NCS boys are now on the prowl and are doing what we call "eye service" for PMB and ALLI, they seriously need scape goats.. A client once brought a job and I charged him N1.3m for a 2013 Venza,he went back to anambra to collect the money, came back to tell me that the owner gave him N850,000 and was even saying that if I refused to do the job, that he was ready to fly the venza across the border and give another agent N450,000 to shortpay, making me also believe that it was the owners decision too. His lies were exposed when the venza was later seized by customs and the owner later told us that the idiot collected N1.3m from him, the venza is still with customs till date.... Thank God that you were able to cross the obstacle and God bless you for sharing this story. When next you decide to use your former agent or another, always make sure he is sure of whatever he wants to pay as bank charges...
