Anambra polls, I don’t have any godfather, Ozigbo declares

As the momentum gathers in regards to the anticipated Anambra governorship elections in November 6th election, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo has stated categorically that he does not have any godfather.

Ozigbo made this known on Monday during an interactive session with media practitioners at East End hotels, Awka where he noted that as a matter of fact that he is an independent minded person who does not believe in godfatherism. “Not even Mr Peter Obi, Tony Elumelu or any other individuals as alleged is my sponsor".

The former banker said that the leadership of the PDP can make suggestions to him about issues but the decisions he makes are totally based on standards and merit.

He also dismissed the claim by rumour mongers that his running mate, Mrs Azuka Enemo was imposed on him by an unnamed godfather.

“I decided to run along with Mrs Azuka Enemo because of her huge integrity and large support base. Nobody imposed her on me. The fact that I ran an election primary for two years in the state should have given me an idea of who my deputy would be though I didn’t decide on that even after the party primary.

“I am not one of those people who go to politicians to make empty promises, infact I was in the plane coincidentally with the former governor, Mr Peter Obi and I told him how I would engage the leadership of Anglican Communion to get my deputy.

“I turned down the first list of the people they sent to me not because the individuals sent to me are not good but there are certain criteria I insisted must be met.” he reiterated.

He said that he has to be thorough about the choice of his running mate because his deputy must be someone he has full confidence in.

Ozigbo came tops in PDP primaries defeating Uche Ekwunife and Obiora Okonkwo in a tightly-contested party elections.
Recently, the party made senator Ekwunife the DG for his campaign at a recently held meeting in Abuja.

Whatever could be the idea behind the decision to arrest, detain and then charge him to court by mere lyrics spoken to the delight of music lovers should be checkmated.

Recall that the period when Falana Falana, aka Falz released the video, ‘This is Nigeria’, it met widespread criticisms. Some religious organisations called for its ban or option of arrest of the artist. But all attempts failed.

Incidentally, the line in the song reads; see me, see trouble. Am I a yahoo boy? That song is a rhetorical question and quite different from the word, I am a yahoo boy. The latter is affirmative.

In this dire moment, some persons have come to intercede for him. Social entreprenuer, Bobrisky, has called for prayers on his behalf. Also some of his fans have buzzed the internet calling for his release, saying that the song doesn’t imply he is one. Lyrically, Marley was just passing a message as other legends like Fela, Sonny Okosun, Osadebe and others you may remember. Even though, it would take a lot to walk in those shoes of an activist.

As the clock ticks, he has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to 11 count charges. However, it is not my intent to support defamation comments, Neither is it my intent to discourage the justice system. Whatever needs to be done to uphold truth and justice ought to be done. But in original creativity, Naira Marley deserves an accolade for speaking about the state of the economic situation of the country. He sure deserves a second chance. He is innocent and needs to be released to give us a rendition of his popular hit single, Issa Goal.
