It's more than hilarious. Aside the tier 1 states in the country, there's practically nothing to justify the outrageous cost of renting in most states in Nigeria. States that are struggling to pay the minimum wage, where there's no strong private sector participation.

They (agents and landlords) now freely call millions of Naira for basic, unserviced houses and apartments. No tarred roads, no 24/7 electricity, open gutters, no greeneries, no standard furnishing etc. It's just so annoying.

Go to Minna or even worse, Kogi State and see the cost of rents there. States that are practically on life support from FG with barely anything going on. The same holds sway across several states in Nigeria and you'll be tempted to think to think those landlords and agents are no longer humans.

Aside the tier 1 states in Nigeria (though still exorbitant, but there are lots of opportunities there) nothing justifies the outrageous rates being paid in other parts of Nigeria.

This is a sad case. Yes, the father might have his flaws that's another matter on its own. However, looking at the two interviews, the mother seems to be the more useless parent of the two. It also showed that deceased loved and trusted her father as he always ensured she invested, saved and even built the current house she was to park into.

The sorry excuse of a mother remarried and parked her properties to her ex husband's house and lived there (albeit temporarily) even when she has a husband. Again, she sold a land that belong to her daughter and squandered the money, leaving the young lady scared. Then few days after her death, she and her useless new husband wiped the late daughter's account clean without any consideration for any outstanding debt or obligations that she has.

Yet she came on camera to cry and insist that her daughter's corpse be buried in the compound. What's the catch?

That said the practice of burying deceased ones within their home needs to stop except for rare cases. For God's sake it has no apparent benefit for the dead, there's a big risk of groundwater contamination (borehole etc) and it also reduces the value of the property.

At the end of the day if the house is to be sold, her remains, regardless of the stage of decomposition will be exhumed and relocated which is more degrading and disturbing.

More importantly, it seems her religious life was complicated, but she Nimmy (Nimot) seemed to openly identify as a Muslim as evidenced of her burial, and she died without siblings nor children but both her parents her alive. The ruling is that is that the house should be sold. Then once it's sold, all her debts and obligations (if any) should be paid. Once it's paid then from whatever is left, the father is entitled to 66.6% of the sales proceed and the mother gets 33.3% of the profit.

I cannot for the life of me trace the place in our culture when it became "normal" to dance with the corpse. I think it was popularized by Hollywood movies in the early days.

It is a degrading practice. A corpse ought to be buried as quickly and quietly as possible. Families should not have to suffer more (by buying and spending unnecessarily) simply because they lost their loved ones.

STOP going into debts and needlessly stuffing the dead with chemicals in order to "celebrate life". It's inappropriate and depressing.

Bury quickly and quietly then use the money that ought to have gone to those unnecessary expenses to either; help a struggling living family member, dig a community borehole or donate to an orphanage. That's more uplifting and would preserve the memory of the deceased. More especially that community where the incident took place seems to need the gestures I mentioned above.

You give birth to a child, he bears your name, as it's your right. Bearing your ancestral name is optional. My father bears his own father's name, I bear his name, my sibling's child bears my sibling's name. Yet my (beloved) grandfather's name is fairly popular in my town. Practically all of us did not use his name and heavens did not fall. Why should I erase myself from the tree in order to keep my ancestor's name going?

No doubt he may a point that one can bear their ancestor's first name if it's prominent and can help them in lots of ways. However it's optional and not wrong for a child to directly bear the father's name.

I used to enjoy some of his threads, but his outbursts towards some monikers here shows pride. He can do better.

But tattoos, though some are temporary, is done usually done with dangerous chemicals, has a high probability of scarring the body and the also mess with the blood. If you get permanent tattoos, you cannot donate blood.

In addition, tattoos, especially heavy ones are usually seen as obscene in both the Global North and South. Even most businesses will reject a lot of tattoo forms.

Countries are pushing good funds to fund indigenous FMCG, Agro, tech startups, while our government is giving it's youths 500k to start POS business or provision businesses that has been saturated to high heavens.

Apart from improving macro conditions that will stimulate rapid business growth, there needs to be very accessible ZERO interest loans and grants for serious entrepreneurs. Make it truly pan Nigerian affair.

It's better we have few dozens of tax-paying companies employing many, then with smaller businesses. Than to increase the density of POS businesses across Nigeria.

Yes, his parents were separated, but his father and grandparents played very important role. His father alongside those youth coaches were practically his first manager. The man did as much as possible to ensure he was focused. As a matter of fact, his paternal grandmother, father owes most credit to his professional success than his mother. Old lady drives him tirelessly and regularly to his football field, even his dad had to go nights at old jobs. So her as the main pillar behind his success is a huge distortion.

This is not to support separation, in fact, I despise it except as a last resort. So for every successful child with separated parents, there are millions with failed successes and sadly never see the light of the day. His case is a very tiny exception which is not the norm.

Though this not to dismiss the vital role played by his mum, but records need to be set straight.

I understand that the man is frustrated as a parent, not doubt. However, while a parent ought to guide their wards from making mistakes when selecting a spouse, the ward, especially if female must NEVER be forced to choose someone against her will.

Force renders the marriage, null and void and many seem to estimate the consequences of force marriages. Islam is against force marriage, and that's why that court cannot rule in favour of the father.

The man should have sat her down, let her experience her preference in a spouse. Then ask her if she has someone in mind or if she'll be willing to be match made? I doubt this man took any of those steps.
