say he ‘danced on graves of victims’ without remorse, didn’t visit victims The National Youth Council of Nigeria, on Monday, gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, within which he should resign as a Minister in the Federal Executive Council or the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), should sack him. The NYCN alleged that Amaechi danced on the graves of victims and celebrated the pains of the abducted and wounded for declaring his presidential ambition on a day he was to meet Nigerian youths on the implication of the March 28 attack on an Abuja-Kaduna train. “Consequently, to demonstrate that there is a modicum of sanity in this country and the minutest respect for the lives of citizens, the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, should resign within the next 48 hours or President Muhammadu Buhari should sack him as a mark of respect for the dead, who he deliberately or unwittingly desecrated. “We hereby pass a vote of confidence on the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces’ determination to rein in insecurity and in a similar vein frown at the attempts by the Minister of Transportation to discredit the President Muhammadu Buhari administration,” the NYCN said. The President of NYCN, Solomon Adodo, issued the ultimatum in a communiqué issued after its emergency meeting held on Monday in Abuja. The meeting was to lend its voice to the security situation in Nigeria and proffer some solutions and advice, particularly with respect to the recent bombing of the Abuja-Kaduna rail track. https://punchng.com/2023-sack-amaechi-within-48-hours-nigerian-youths-tell-buhari/ |

Why So Much Negative Reactions to Osinbajo Declaration from both APC and PDP peeps?
|
“There is nothing wrong. Members of the party always want to see consensus if it is possible but we are a democratic party |
Reactions have continued to trail the declaration of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to run for the presidency in the 2023 general election. One of such reactions was by a Twitter user, @NaikeyOnuegbu, who slammed Osinbajo for declaring his intention on the “same Twitter that they banned.” She tweeted, “On this same Twitter that they banned, they’re all coming to declare to run for (the) office of (the) President…The irony!” Another user, @Krisdangis, asked in a direct response to the VP’s series of tweets: “On this same @Twitter you banned last year… ”The Federal Government officially banned Twitter in Nigeria on June 5, 2021, after the platform took down a tweet by the President, Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), which it claimed violated its community rules. Condemnations and outrage followed the FG’s ban on Twitter from local and international bodies and organisations, with many, including Amnesty International, maintaining that it was an attack on freedom of expression. During the period of its suspension, many Twitter users in Nigeria resorted to using Virtual Private Networks to boycott the ban and to continue to have access to the social media platform. https://punchng.com/osinbajos-declaration-on-this-same-twitter-that-they-banned-tweeps-react/ |
After the Russian Ministry of Defense announced Tuesday that it has decided to “drastically reduce hostilities” in the Kyiv and Chernihiv directions, the United States is already observing these movements underway — a major strategy shift, according to two senior US officials. Russia is beginning to withdraw some forces, including Russian Battalion Tactical Groups (BTGs) leaving the surrounding areas around the Ukrainian capital. The Russian forces now pulling back in some areas of the north to focus on gains in the south and east. The US assesses Russia will cover their retreat with air and artillery bombardment of the capital, one of the officials said. US officials caution that Russia could always reverse again if the battle conditions allow. The move follows peace talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul on Tuesday. In the US view, this is not a short-term adjustment to regroup, but a longer-term move as Russia comes to grips with failure to advance in the north. The official said one consequence the US is concerned about, is keeping the European allies unified on economic pressure and military support as Washington expects some of them to press Ukraine to accept a peace deal to end the fighting. Ukraine’s military intelligence head says Russian President Vladimir Putin could be looking to carve Ukraine in two – like North and South Korea. Brig. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Agency, said Russia’s operations around Kyiv had failed and it was now impossible for the Russian army to overthrow the Ukrainian government. Putin’s war was now focused on the south and the east of the country, he said. https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-putin-news-03-29-22/h_506e7f46a82a9986462f952f730091d0 |

European Union ambassadors agreed on Monday to examine bids by Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova to join the EU, starting the lengthy process towards accession. In a tweet Monday, the French Presidency of the EU said that the 27 Permanent Representatives of European Countries had, "agreed to invite the European Commission to present an opinion on each of the applications for EU membership submitted by Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.” About the process: This starts a process that could takes years to complete before the three former Soviet countries are considered candidate countries to join the EU. Countries wishing to become part of the European Union must meet strict “accession criteria,” which involves complex social, legal and political reforms and are “essential conditions all candidate countries must satisfy to become a member state,” according to EU rules. The EU’s “capacity to absorb new members,” is also part of the consideration for allowing new countries to join the bloc. Meanwhile, European Council President Charles Michel said in a tweet earlier Monday that Ukraine's membership bid will be discussed in the “coming days." https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-putin-news-03-07-22/h_dc1526f075096e276baec8fa7632f300 |
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will give a virtual address to the US Congress on Wednesday at 9 a.m. ET, according to a letter sent to House and Senate members by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. "The Congress, our country and the world are in awe of the people of Ukraine, who have shown extraordinary courage, resilience and determination in the face of Russia’s unprovoked, vicious, and illegal war," the statement said. The statement continued: "The Congress remains unwavering in our commitment to supporting Ukraine as they face Putin’s cruel and diabolical aggression, and to passing legislation to cripple and isolate the Russian economy as well as deliver humanitarian, security and economic assistance to Ukraine. We look forward to the privilege of welcoming President Zelenskyy’s address to the House and Senate and to convey our support to the people of Ukraine as they bravely defend democracy." https://edition.cnn.com/europe/live-news/ukraine-russia-putin-news-03-14-22/index.html |

At the same time, there were reports of government employees resigning in disgust over their country's invasion of Ukraine. The Russian leader finally unleashed his forces on his western neighbour last Thursday. Russian soldiers launched a massive attack from the north, east and south, as they sought quickly to take key objectives. However, they were met by fierce and brave resistance from both the Ukrainian army and civilian militias, and appear to have suffered heavy casualties. Reports have now started to emerge that claim thousands of Russian soldiers have either downed their weapons or are refusing to fight. Taras Kuzio, a research fellow at the Henry Jackson Society, tweeted today: "Ukrainian News Channel 24: 5,000 Russian soldiers in staging area in Russia, north of Kharkiv have revolted and refusing to attack Ukraine." He added: "Earlier report from front lines around Crimea is 1/2 of Russian soldiers turned over equipment to the Ukrainians, again refusing to fight." Channel 24 has broadcast news in Ukraine since 2006 and belongs to TRK Lux media, which is controlled by Kateryna Kit-Sadova - the wife of Lviv Mayor Andrew Sadovyi. Numerous videos have been circulating on social media that show captured Russian soldiers being interrogated by their captors. The young men appear totally demoralised and almost to a person say they were never told by their officers that they were being sent to invade. The Russian soldiers claim that their superiors had merely told them that they were taking part in standard military exercises. The fierce fighting appears to have inflicted a heavy toll on Russia's army in terms of lives and equipment. On Sunday, Ukraine’s deputy defence minister Hanna Malyar claimed Russian forces had lost about 4,300 servicemen. She also alleged that Mr Putin's army had lost around 146 tanks, 27 aircraft and 26 helicopters. On Friday, the Economist also reported that the Russian army sustained more casualties in 24 hours then it suffered over eight years of military activity in Syria. The Russian tyrant also seems to be facing an exodus of government employees, who no longer want to work for their administration. Neil Hauer, a journalist, wrote on Twitter: "Russian friends sharing texts with me of their colleagues in Russia's public service resigning over this invasion. "Widespread disgust among Russian government employees over Putin's decision." He added: "One tells me: "if you have the ear of Western politicians, tell them to keep pushing. https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1572769/vladimir-putin-ukraine-war-russian-soldiers-down-weapons-kharkiv
