CrimeCourt Sentences Man To Death By Hanging For Killing Own Brother by sambisaman(op): 12:31pm On Mar 08, 2016
ustice Muhammad Abubakar Sambo of Bauchi High Court has sentenced a 27-year old man, Salisu Ali, of Zango village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government of the state, to death by hanging for committing culpable homicide.

The prosecution counsel, Sabiu Adamu Gumba, had told the court that the accused lured his seven-year old brother, Yusuf Ali, to the bush where he hit him with a stick, killing him instantly.

Mr. Gumba said the accused later cut off the penis of the deceased and gave it to his dog.

In a confessional statement, the accused confirmed that he killed Yusuf due to the misunderstanding between him and the mother of the deceased.

According to him, he did not take any intoxicant while committing the offence and the deceased did not engage him in a fight during the incident as he fell and died instantly.

The prosecution counsel presented his first witness, Aliyu Shehu, who is father to both the accused and the deceased.

He told the court that the deceased was sent to the market by his mother on the day he was killed to buy detergent only for him to be lured by the accused into the bush.

He said a good Samaritan informed him that he saw the accused with the deceased on their way to the bush.

The witness said some youth in the village later forced the accused into the bush where he showed them the body of the murdered boy.

In his judgment, Justice Abubakar Sambo ordered that the accused be hanged on the neck until he was certified dead.

PoliticsFG To Break NNPC Into 30 Companies [DETAILS] by sambisaman(op): 8:10am On Mar 04, 2016
The Minister of state for Petroleum Resources and the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Ibe Kachikwu, says the NNPC would be restructured and divided into 30 companies that will generate revenue for the country.

Each of the 30 companies is expected to have its own managing director.

Kachikwu made this known on thursday while speaking at the 25th Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum in Abuja, with the theme: “Technological Advances in Hydrocarbon Exploration and Exploitation: Solutions to Global Oil Price Stability”.

The minister said: “We are starting first with simple governance issues; those that are not contentious, that are very rapid and that deal a lot with the transformation of the national oil company.”

“For the national oil company, a lot of work is going on; I am sure some of you have seen the effects; but within the next one week, we are going to be announcing some real major overhaul of the system, one that hasn’t been done in over 20 years.”

“For the first time, we are unbundling the subset of the NNPC to 30 independent companies with their own Managing Directors.”

“Titles like Group Executive Directors are going to disappear and in their place you are going to have Chief Executive Officers and they are going to take responsibilities for their titles.”

“At the end of the day, the CEO of an upstream company must deliver an upstream result and we are very focused on that and along those chains, we are doing very dramatic things within the sector to bring the change.”

“Production Sharing Contracts (PSC) terms haven’t been revised for quite a while, we will be looking at those, JVs, and we will be focusing more on how we can bring in the PSC-type terms into JV structures, so that way, we can begin to get them to work.”

Again the minister expressed hope that the price of crude oil will rise to $50 per barrel in the not too distant future.

“I don’t need to tell you about the price of oil, despite the shuttle diplomacy here and there. It is still very challenging but at least we are inching up, and for the first time, we are beginning to have both the Saudis and the Russians come back on the table.”

“Hopefully, if the meeting that we are scheduling to happen in Russia between the OPEC and non-OPEC members happen around the 20th of March, we should see some dramatic movements. We are not likely going to see the prices of many years ago, but I think we are very humble today to accept that if we hit the price of $50, we will be celebrating and that is the target that we have.”

CrimeGirl, 24, Stabs Boyfriend To Death by sambisaman(op): 7:32am On Mar 04, 2016
For allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death, 24-year-old Blessing Edet is to be kept behind bars for the next 30 days, a Lagos court ruled on Thursday.

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court said Blessing should be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons pending when the case would be filed at the appropriate court.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Folarin-William said: “The accused should be remanded in prison custody pending when the case will be filed at the appropriate court since the advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is out.”

NAN reports that the DPP had advised that the accused should be prosecuted for murder at a higher court.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Maria Dauda, told the court that the offence was committed on August 18, 2015 at about midnight at No. 1, Falana St., Ogombo, Lekki.

She said the accused and the deceased, Edet Ebong, 33, had engaged themselves in a fight and in the process, she picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the deceased on his stomach.

The offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

NAN reports that the section prescribes a life sentence for offenders.

The case has been adjourned to April 4 for mention.
