It was a really hard time for D’banj as he revealed that he never thought he would ever lose a child and that the sad incident really broke he and his wife.

However, shortly after the singer disclosed that he was expecting another child a few months ago, he welcomed his new bundle of joy, a baby boy, in the United States of America on Thursday, September 19, 2019. The hospital or state where the child was born was not disclosed but the mother and child were said to be doing fine.

Months after news first emerged that billionaire Femi Otedola was divesting his 75percent direct and indirect shareholding in Forte Oil’s downstream business with the transaction expected to close in the first quarter of 2019 subject to the satisfaction of various conditions and receipt of applicable regulatory approval, The Capital can reveal authoritatively that the deal has now been finalized.

Otedola has effectively ceased to be involved with the company. The new owner is Abdulwasiu Sowami, the businessman behind Prudent Energy and Services Ltd. Sowami, who lives in Ogba, Lagos, was virtually unknown in Nigeria until his name propped up as the new proprietor of Forte Oil.

Indeed, it is the end of an era for Otedola and Forte Oil, the company that has become synonymous with his mammoth wealth. Originally founded in 1964 as British Petroleum before becoming known as African Petroleum, Otedola was appointed its chairman and chief executive in 2007 after the acquisition of a controlling stake in the business by his petroleum products marketing and distribution company, Zenon Petroleum.

In 2010, the company rebranded to Forte Oil with a focus on technology and improved corporate governance. Over the years, Forte Oil established presence in the 36 states of Nigeria and Abuja, operating a network of 500 retail outlets spread across the country and in Ghana, with major fuel storage installations at both Apapa (Lagos State) and Onne (Rivers State), an aviation joint users hydrant in Lagos, and joint aviation depots in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano, serving the aviation industry.


The company markets premium motor spirit (PMS), automotive motor oil (Diesel), dual purpose kero (DPK), fuel oils and Jet A-1 fuel amongst others. It also manufactures and distributes a range of lubricants, some of which include Super V, Visco 2000 etc. at its lubricating oil blending plant at Apapa, Lagos. It also provides well production chemicals and drilling fluids to Nigeria’s petroleum upstream operators through its upstream services subsidiary, Forte Upstream Services.

With Forte Oil, the successful businessman achieved a different level of prosperity so much that by 2015, he was listed as the 16th richest man in Africa by Forbes. But the adventurous billionaire seems bored with the oil business as he has now set his sight on conquering the power sector. In 2013, Forte Oil purchased a controlling stake in the 414 MW Geregu Power Plant under a government-led privatisation programme in the power industry. A major overhaul of the plant commenced in 2015 and was completed in 2016, increasing the combined capacity to 435MW.

Otedola is now set to take his Mojo and Midas Touch to the power sector and if the cosmos align with his plans, become king as he did in the oil and gas industry.

Newly-crowned world champion Andy Ruiz Jr will bank just £5million after producing one of the greatest heavyweight upsets in history against Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden.

The Mexican underdog knocked the Brit down four times, forcing a seventh-round stoppage. But it is Joshua who will earn the lions’ share of the fight purse.

The dethroned WBA, WBO and IBF champion will accrue £20m after suffering the first defeat of his career.

Joshua struggled to gain a foothold in the early rounds, but found a breakthrough in the third, flooring Ruiz Jr with a left hook.

The challenger recovered and showed slick hand speed to knock Joshua down twice before the end of the round with chopping right hooks to the temple.

The 29-year-old staggered back to his stool and regained composure in the following rounds, but was knocked down twice more in the seventh, leaving referee Mike Griffin with no choice but to stop the fight.

Ruiz Jr stepped in to take the fight with just five weeks’ notice after Joshua’s original opponent Jarrell Miller failed a drugs test.

The Mexican accepted the £5m offer before the bout, over five times more than the £770,000 he received after the loss to Joseph Parker in 2017.

The most Ruiz Jr has earned for a win was a reported £382,000 against Devin Vargas in 2018.

Joshua described the loss as merely a ‘minor setback,’ with promoter Eddie Hearn expecting to arrange a rematch for December.

Chelsea defender, Gary Cahill is ready to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.

The 32-year-old is yet to feature under new manager, Maurizio Sarri this season.

The Italian has switched formations and now plays with only two central defenders.

David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger have taken the two central defensive positions as Sarri’s preferred pairing.

Cahill and Andreas Christensen both considered back-up options.

Cahill has not been named in a matchday squad this term and according to the newspaper, the defender is willing to leave Stamford Bridge midway through the campaign.

The report also claimed that Cahill was open to joining a Premier League rival and is hopeful that Chelsea would not stand in the way of his move.

Cahill has spent over six years at Chelsea and has helped the club win two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Europa League.

President Buhari has revealed that the staggering sum of over N500billion has been recovered by his administration thanks to the success of the whistle blower policy.

He said this during his Democracy Day speech which aired at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The president’s claim however contradicts those of his finance minister, Kemi Adeosun and anti corruption chief, Ibrahim Magu. As at the end of March, Kemi Adeosun gave N7.8 billion, $378 million and £27,800 as the total recovered through whistle-blowing tips. A total of N143billion.

In November 2017, Mr Magu said the EFCC recovered N739 billion in two years. Earlier this year, he said his agency recovered N511 billion in 2017 alone. A media strategist for the APC, Ayo Akanji however says there is no conflict in the figures recovered. He said: “The Ministry of Finance and the EFCC have been making separate recoveries, but there will be reconciliation soon.”

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, says Nigerian Army will work with National Park Service and Borno Government to revive Sambisa forest to attract tourists into the country.

Buratai said this on Tuesday when the Conservator-General of National Park Service, Ibrahim Goni, paid him an advocacy visit at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.

Sambisa forest is in the southwestern part of Chad Basin National Park, about 60 kilometres southeast of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno.
The forest is under the control and management of Borno Government.


The chief of army staff said the forest deserved to be revived as it harboured large number of wild animals, noting that the army would see the possibility of working with relevant stakeholders to make the forest a tourists’ attraction and training ground for the army.

According to him, the army in partnership with National Park Service and Borno Government will explore the potential in the forest.

The army boss, who assured the National Park Service of support, commiserated with the service over its men who got injured and some murdered in the forest.

Goni said the purpose of the visit was to enlighten the Nigerian Army that the nation’s forests were critical to the economy and security.
According to him, most of the forests are located at the nation’s boundaries which the military use for war.

“It is important to say that when the forest is left uncatered for, it will affect the nation’s economy,’’ Goni said.

He added that Nigeria had five per cent forests cover as against the 25 per cent recommended by UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
Goni called for increased number of forests to bridge the gap and called for more personnel.

He underscored the need to acquire high calibre fire arms and ammunition, as well as training of rangers.
Created in 1979 when Kainji Lake National Park was established through Decree 46 as Nigeria’s premier national park, National Park Service was inaugurated by former President Goodluck Jonathan
as paramilitary in 2014 to manage game and forests reserve.
