Education / Re: JAMB Opens Portal To Check Where You Are Posted For Consideration by sammyashons: 12:49am On Jul 12, 2016
Hello people!
Just felt I should share my thoughts about how this posting has been done so far.
Personally, I've noticed that for competitive courses, especially at highly competitive universities, those with quite high utme scores are the ones that have been posted to be considered for admission. Nonetheless, some candidates with lower scores have also been posted meanwhile those with higher scores haven't... and these people chose same course at same university.
What these findings suggest to me is that jamb has sectionalised candidates based on merit, catchment area and elds.

Basically, what I'm saying is this; taking the University of Lagos and Medicine and Surgery as case study, let's assume there were 10000 candidates who applied. What jamb does is to group these 10000 based on catchment, elds and merit. Now, jamb uses the quota this institution has for MBBS to send candidates' details for admission considering. What this means is, if they have a quota of 100, jamb would send 100 candidates' details to them based on the 45% for merit, 35% for catchment and 20% for elds. Now, these candidates will be those who scored the highest in each of those categories.

This makes sense because now, the institution isn't left with the responsibility of sieving out candidates which normally would have been done through a post-utme exam.

I really cannot say what the fate of the 9900 candidates left will be, but I'm thinking they would be posted to other institutions whose capacities aren't filled up.

NB: This is purely my opinion and is not meant to trigger fear in anyone. This is not an official statement on how this whole posting is being done.

I wish everyone all the best and success in the end!

If you are an MBBS aspirant, a whatsapp study group has been created to
1. Help us share ideas that would be beneficial to our securing admission
2. Keep each and everyone motivated to study....Your mates share what they have learnt and you get up to study too.
3. Challenge our knowledge and readiness for the upcoming exam.....Time-based tests would be organized
4. Help us recognize salient points we may have overlooked during studies
5. Help us know one another....Aren't we going to be coursemates in the near future?
.....If you are interested, quote this and drop your number

If you don't know TD,don't worry...it only depends on the kind of engineering you want to do that will determine how applicable it will be.... like us,we did it once while mechanical engineering did it more than once...focus on the aforesaid subjects more....I mean the trio......
Thanks a lot

It depends on your proficiency!! If you are very good in maths,f/maths,physics, TD etc,go for engineering. Besides,it all boils down to your overall life ambitions. Do u want to be a programmer or hardware engineerBut on neutral ground,I'll advise you to study engineering because it touches almost all facets of computer science which make you indirectly have an edge over them*****computer engineering can practise as a computer science not the reverse!!!!*************
Thanks bro, but how much of TD do I need for computer engineering? Is it so important?

Career / Re: On What Basis Are Officers In The Nigerian Navy Promoted? by sammyashons: 7:39pm On Sep 18, 2014
jukeblam:

Hilarious response! "Like pilots indeed!"

You will not get paid like a pilot! More like 200k+ for a 2nd Lieutenant (the starting rank) currently.

For Naval Officers, promotion is every 4yrs- confirmed; meanwhile, doctors get promoted after the first 2yrs, then every 4yrs. However, promotion takes a political tone as your rank gets higher- I think from Captain or so.

You choose your ‘uniform’ (Army, Navy or Air force) on entry into the NDA but can switch in your 3rd year. So, yes, cadets go directly into the Navy; or Army; or Air force.
Thanks bruv, is it true that they also pay cadets at NDA?
Career / Re: On What Basis Are Officers In The Nigerian Navy Promoted? by sammyashons: 1:43pm On Sep 18, 2014
Orunto: Yes! They are paid like Pilots. Risky jobs demands risky remunerations, so their salaries include "death allowance".
Thanks a lot, please, do cadets who finish at NDA go directly to the navy or how exactly is it done?
Career / Re: On What Basis Are Officers In The Nigerian Navy Promoted? by sammyashons: 8:59pm On Sep 17, 2014
Orunto: On the basis of education, skill, goodness, loyalty, expectation, perseverance and authouritative responsibility. You cannot present a soul that shoots clumsyly and ask me to promote him or her. The answer is No!
Thanks, any idea on how they're paid?

beatsbyj2g: Wat was d answer to no. 1 calculations aspects

, I used
velocity ratio = 1÷sin#
and I used soh cah toa to find sin# ....

D second one I used E=M.A/V.A
Well, for the first one, I just did VR= distance moved by effort divided by distance moved by load which is 4÷2 and so I got 2. The other one, I also used Ef=MA/VR ×100
