What is meant by sitemap?

A sitemap is one of the most important tools for webmasters. It allows a webmaster to generate the entire pages of a website which is pointed out by a single XML file.

This sitemap XML file tells search engines about all the pages of an entire website and make it available for the search engines to crawl through those pages and index them so that they can be displayed in search results. A search engine robot does crawl a website on its own, but having a sitemap will help if it misses any page. A sitemap is highly required for maximum exposure.

Navigation is added in form of letters which on a click will scroll to the articles sorted under the prefix of same letters. This codes was modified from Igniel's frameworks.

How does it work?
The logo of your website for instance is not likely to change so frequently, you can instruct your user's browser to save this logo as cache for a week. What are Expires Headers?
Expires headers instruct browsers whether they should request a specific file from the server or they should acquire it from a cache source.

The function of Expire Header is not only to reduce several download request of a page but also reduce the numbers of HTTP requests.

Logining in to a website, your browser access the web server to request download of all the files needed for operating a web page. It gathers the files and make the web page available for display. Since the web page is made up of some graphics and contents, more files may be needed to be downloaded from the web server by your browser.

You may need to open a web page multiple times, to avoid letting the page re-download which may leads to waste of browsing data, storage and reduction of the load time of the web page, you need to make a request to your web server with your browser to have some files on the web pages to be stored as cache.

How Expires Header Works
Expires Headers works in a simple way. Expires Headers help to store files on a web page to avoid download over and over. Expires Headers helps reducing page load time for returning visitors on a web page. Load time may not be reduced for first visit.

Expires headers can be set up for files or some other file types. It tells the browser for how long should files on a page be stored. If the time is completed, then the browser take action to download again and stored till further period instructed.

Note: Files should not be instructed to be stored for too long time because it may delay changes made on web pages displayed to returning visitors

It is so much important to make use of Expires Header because it reduces HTTP requests which speed up the time required for kthe browser to interact with the web server. Also. it allows users to make use of the web page files downloaded over and over again. In addition, it helps to reduce the cost of data required to load a web page(i.e it saves data, it saves money) for users.

Adding Expires Headers Method 1
Some pages might contain a few files and be small in size. However, for some, there may be a lot of files, and these may add up to be several megabytes large. Twitter.com for example is 3 MB+.

These large files take longer to load and can be especially painful if you're on a slow internet connection (or a mobile device).

Each file makes a separate request to the server. The more requests your server gets simultaneously the more work it needs to do, only further reducing your page speed.

To add Expires Headers on website or blog using the Blogger/ platform, go to the Edit HTML tab on your blogger dashboard. Place the codes below just above the </head> tag.
