Aside from its terrible battery life, the phone itself was excellent—to the point that I must admit, the photos it took were barely adequate.
With the rising cost of living, we prefer to keep our current phones as long as possible. But can we slow down battery aging, or is it inevitable? The answer lies in how we charge our phones and the small mistakes we might make daily.
Understanding Lithium-Ion Batteries
Your computer, cell phone, tablet, and even toothbrush depend on lithium-ion batteries. The technology, developed in the 1970s, became common during the 1990s because it can store a great deal of energy in a relatively small volume, charge quickly, and last longer than conventional battery designs.
A lithium-ion battery works through a chemical reaction: when you use your phone, lithium ions move from the anode (typically graphite) to the cathode (lithium cobalt oxide) through an electrolyte. When you charge it, this reverses. This is repeated over time—until, of course, the battery wears out.
Although lithium-ion batteries are more durable than their older counterparts, they also decay. Lionvolt's Chief Technology Officer Sandeep Unnikrishnan explains this is due to "internal electrochemical wear and tear." Once you start using your phone, the battery begins to age, and it tends to survive around 500 charge cycles—or two to three years—before the capacity really starts to take a hit.
Why Can't You Replace the Battery?
Most cellular phone contracts run for about two years, which is the exact time batteries start to lose their efficiency. Businesses have little motivation to make battery replacement easy, so customers are upgraded instead.
It was simple to replace your own telephone battery a generation or so back. These days, it is made complicated," explains James Bore, CEO of technical consulting firm Bores. However, regulation changes due for rollout across the European Union later in 2027 will also require producers to make phone batteries easy to change without using separate tools—a shake-up that will potentially extend our devices' lifetime.
Tips to Extend Your Battery Life
Until that time, how will you maintain your battery health for as long as possible?
1. Don't Charge to 100%
We all like to fully charge our phones, thinking it's the best. But lithium-ion batteries stress when kept at 100% for long periods. Instead, Unnikrishnan recommends keeping your charge between 20% and 80% to maximize battery life.
2. Avoid Overnight Charging
It's convenient, but charging your phone overnight exposes it to prolonged high voltage, which accelerates wear. If possible, charge your phone throughout the day to unplug it from the charger when it's not yet fully charged.
3. Take Advantage of Built-in Battery Management Features
The majority of smartphones now have battery-saving features. iPhones have "Optimized Battery Charging," and Android devices have "Adaptive Charging," both of which avoid overcharging by waiting until it's needed to use full capacity.
4. Avoid Heat & Extreme Cold
Temperature is the most significant contributor to battery health. Heat, in particular, accelerates degradation. Please don’t use your phone while it is charging, as it generates heat, and never place it under a pillow or blanket, which can trap heat and cause a fire.
5. Be Careful with Fast Charging
Though helpful, constant recharging will progressively deteriorate your battery. Always use manufacturer-approved chargers since more affordable options tend to supply undependable voltage, resulting in overheating or even burning.
Changing some of your routines can prolong your phone’s battery life manifold. Of course, the best for your battery would be reduced screen time—where's the enjoyment in that?

I will take your questions one by one and explain to you in a layman's way so you will be able grasp the whole stuff.

What is the Pi lock up configuration all about?

The Pi lock up configuration is a setting that allows you to lock up a certain amount of your for a certain duration in your pi app for mainnet migration.

Mainnet migration is actually the transfer of your Pi tokens from your Pi Network app to your Pi wallet inside your Pi browser.



It doesn't mean you won't be unable to migrate your until 3 years.

As long as you have your wallet ready and have complete your Mainnet checklist the pi algorithm or the Pi core team can migrate your mined pi to your wallet anytime.

The delay most people experience is usually as a result of the number of people on the migration que.


Rather what it means is that If you are committed to a 3 years lockup, when your get transferred to your wallet (in your pi browser) the amount of coin you accepted to be lockup up will remain so (will be locked up for 3 years).

Meaning you won't be able to transfer those coins to another Pi wallet or use the coins to do or purchase anything when Pi coin launches in enclosed or open mainnet.



To shed more light to the things I have said, there is something you didn't mention which I will be discussing or add because it also important.

You mentioned/asked about the lockup duration (which is Max 3 yrs) but you didn't mention the lockup percentage which is very important and where most people get it wrong.

If you lock 100% percent of your for 3 yrs and the Pi network algorithm picks it up and send it to your wallet like that, be rest assured that you won't be able to withdraw anything until after 3 yrs.

If you lockup 90% for 3 yrs which I did, you will only be able to use 10% of your entire .

So for example let's say you have 1000 and your lockup configuration for percentage and duration is 90% for 3 yrs, you will only have access to 10% of your which is just 100 .

Yeah you will only be able to spend 10% (100 ) for the meantime until after 3 yrs (2026). You get?

What is the advantage of locking of locking your then? I know you are probably wondering that.

"The higher the duration and percentage locked the higher you mine."

If you locked 50% of your coin for 6 months, I that locked 90% of mine for 3 yrs will definitely mine or be mining more than you.
