Policeman attacks Civil Defence officer in NSCDC headquarters

There was almost a complete breakdown of law and order at the Abuja headquarters of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Friday morning after a police officer began to shoot life ammunition in a disagreement with an officer of the Civil Defence Corps.

The use of life ammunition, The Nigerian Times learnt caused panic even at the National headquarters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which shares the same Wuse Zone 5 neighborhood with the NSCDC.

When The Nigerian Times spoke to Shola Odumosu, a public relations officer with the NSCDC, he confirmed the incidence.

He said: “the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ade Abolurin was about driving out of the premises, and as it is with normal security protocol, the officers were clearing the way for him to drive out.

“That was when one Assistant Inspector of Police Ajadua attached to the PDP secretariat insisted he was going to use the road. When asked to wait for the CG to go first, he retorted ‘who is your CG?’

“Our officer now resisted him after which he began to threaten to use his gun. He eventually began to shoot into the air causing panic. Other policemen from a nearby post came in solidarity with him.”

However, Shola said peace had since returned to the environment and also confirmed that no one was hurt in the development.

The NSCDC has being a target of sustained Police aggression; this includes the recent attempt at the CG in Lagos where it was reported by The Nigerian Times that he escaped assassination when a suspected police inspector attempted to open fire on him.

PoliticsPolice Ambushed Civil Defence Officers, Aid Vandals In Niger by Samson222(op): 10:23am On Jul 07, 2014
[b]The Anti-vandal Team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been attacked by Nigeria Police officers early our of Monday in Niger.

It was reported that the Policemen deliberately ambushed the men of Anti-vandal Team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) with the purpose to aid & escape of the vandals.

A source at the NSCDC gives account of the incident says that; we got the information that there is likely to be vandalization activities by suspected vandals in the area, and our men switched to action as usual, on getting to the entrance of the bush, our men were stopped by Police not to enter the bush.

Witnesses put the time of the incident at between midnight and 2 a.m.; and allege that the suspected vandals had contacted the police officers who then ambushed the team.

“Immediately the police got wind of the information, they laid siege for the civil defence officers and deflated the four tyres of the first vehicle, threating to open fire on the NSCDC patrol vehicles; the witness said

“One of the policemen said we (NSCDC) had no right to operate in the area,” the source said. “The NSCDC men explained that it was their duty to protect all government facilities including oil pipelines.” He said Police knowing fully well that both NSCDC and Police are supposed to be agents of Federal government and to protect infrastructures not to aid and abet vandals. He wondered why Police officers take pleasure in always molesting NSCDC officers, saying that such incidents occur regularly.

Efforts to contact Niger State Command PRO of both NPF & NSCDC were unsuccessful as at the time of this report.

Kwara oil theft: Our men caught Police team on the act - NSCDC

The true story of the matter was that we were on our normal patrol through the NNPC pipelines leakage along Asa Dam area around 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday, we then noticed some people inside the bush, we first of all sent one of our undercover men to the scene to confirm what was going on, on getting there the officer noticed that some police officers were there siphoning the full into kegs and to our surprised the fuel has been loaded into the Police official vehicle, he was noticed by one of the police officer, they chased him his phone dropped and they picked it unknowing to them that he is an officer of the corps.

With this development, the remaining of our team went ahead to the scene to confirm what was the matter all about, on getting there we met the police officers on the act of siphoning fuel we challenged them, immediately they turned back to us and accused us of trespassing on their assignment, they point guns at us shoot sporadically to the air, our unarmed men stood their ground but police later turn back to us claiming they met us siphoning. I was laughing in surprise but before we could know what was happening some other police officers came in and we were round up as criminals.
PoliticsExposed: Police Lunched 'operation Crush Red Neck' **released Mode Of Attacks On by Samson222(op): 6:28pm On Apr 28, 2013
Exposed: Police Lunched 'Operation Crush Red Neck'
**Released Mode of Attacks on Civil Defence Operatives Nationwide

It has been reliably gathered the motive behind the killing and series of attacked on NSCDC men by men and officers of Nigeria Police Service.

A very close source in Nigeria Police, hinted us that the authority of Nigeria Police want Civil Defence Corps to be merged/scraped, but due to Civil defence overwhelmed achievements and support they received from members of the public, government and even some other agencies of government except Nigeria Police who considered the corps as their major rival made the Police authority to gave an order tag 'Operation Crush Red Neck'.

It will be recalled that recently the authority of NPF has submitted another proposal to the government pleading d government to merge and scrap NSCDC because they are doing their (Police) job. This request from Police has generated a lot of negative responses from government and members of public who believe in capability of Civil Defence when come to security of lives and properties and their ways of handling matters and openness.

Recently Vice President Nnamdi Sambo and House of Representative member Bature warned Police against Attacking Civil Defence Corps, Sambo stated that Nigeria Police should work closely with civil defence to achieve goals for the country, yet the authority of NPF did not relent in their determination to achieve their devil and selfishness aim and agenda to sacked the corps. Below is the copy of Bature message about NSCDC:

The lawmaker stressed that there was no basis for such a merger between the two security organisations as they play different but complementary roles in the security of the country.

He said, “Even a blind man or somebody who does not know anything before knows the role this organisation is playing in the safety and security of this country. For anybody to bring the idea of merging the corps with the police, I think, they are just being mischievous. I think all these ideas are from people who do not have the interest of the country at heart.

“The definition is quite clear: the job of the police is policing so I think all these ideas are from those people who do not have the interest of the country at heart because if you had done so, you won’t look at these men and women who are serving the country diligently anyhow.”

Sambo also Cautions Police Against Conflict With NSCDC

Namadi Sambo, cautioned the Nigeria Police against further conflict with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), and pointed out that the corps was legally established by an Act of the National Assembly (NASS) with defined legal statutes.

Sambo, who was clarifying issues raised by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on the overlap of functions of the Nigerian Police and other related agencies such as the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, noted vehemently that although their functions were yet to be properly established, the NSCDC is a legally recognised security agency.

In affirmative of Police order of Operation Crush Red Neck', A team of Police SARS in Abeokuta have finalized the plan to start attacking men and officers of NSCDC in Ogun State, in a secret meeting held by the SARS team in a joint in Itaoshin area of Abeokuta where the team resolved to start attacking the corps formations in the state.

It was claimed that NSCDC men are too proud & always go out of their boundary (duties). The SARS team cited an example of a scene around Papalanto in Ewekoro Local government area of Ogun State where a gang of armed robbers where operating, the operation believe to be aided by police, NSCDC patrol team were said to stormed the scene of the robbery and the robbers ran away, the said robbery was carried out at a location very close to Armor vehicle of police. Police is now challenging NSCDC for patrolling in the state which they claimed is their sole responsibility to do so.

Now, Nigerians must rise and fight for the Corps to remain even for Police to function well civil defence corps must be empowered to perform more, Police believe NSCDC is a threat to their organization but flashing back we all know that existence of NSCDC has even made police to rise up more to their abandoned responsibilities.

The National Assembly as a matter of urgency must review Police acts to put an end to functions overlapping between security agencies.

God Bless Nigeria
