@ Nairalanders

Good if true that 1st Bank and UBA to take substantial stakes in Transcorp.

Transcorp was always supposed to be a national project. It will help reduce the impact of the individual billion shares holders. That in itself will attract more investors who don't trust the original investors. Ideally these big boys and girls should gradually reduce their holdings.

The move to appoint the new directors by the banks that loaned the company money was bound to result in greater transparency and honesty.

Happy days round the corner.

Target for real joy in  the  share price will be around mid-2008, by my estimate.

My advice is to reduce your exposure to Fidelity to about 10% of your portfolio. 45% is much too risky - regardless of your age. I don't believe Fidelity will do anything dramatic.

50% in insurance is also over the top. It is the next growth area but there are very good selected prospects in other sectors. Japaul being a recent good example.

Any comments on Thomas Wyatt?
What do you guys make of Lasaco's fundamentals?

@ netotse and geees

I think netotse is correct.

The money only gets to the company when you buy at IPO.

Advantage to the company at the capital market is the higher the market capitalisation the more the amount they can raise for example from banks, using their shares as securities or in secondary issues.

Correct me, somebody, if my understanding is wrong.

I believe there is a commodities market at Abuja Stocks Exchange. Don't know how acive this is.
There have been noises made by NSE leadership about the introduction of futures etc.

@ All

Transcorp is taking a beating because there could not have chosen a worse time to lift the suspension.
The market being so depressed by all the primary offers!
It is a buy and hold stock that will do well in future but not likely to move significantly before mid-2008.
Transcorp also has the problem of not wanting to publicise too much good fortune too quickly, as the media will immediately pounce that it is all due to Obasanjo selling assets to it cheaply. I believe they overpaid for NITEL.

Those already there should hang in there and others gradually get involved in drips with loose cash.

BusinessRe: Now ,lets Talk About Transcorp by samstone4(m): 11:11pm On Oct 20, 2007
Transcorp is a long term project.

Was a lot more optimistic when the private palcement took place but the malice of the anti-Obasanjo forces was underestimated.

I think the price has bottomed out now and those who are selling have probably agreed to maintain it at about 4 Naira.

The current management and the restructuring seems to be well advised and I expect it to be much higher than 10 by end of next year.
Any positive news with the oil blocks could make it 20-30 Naira stock at anytime.

When people start making and receiving calls via MTel and nitel there should be a steady upwards pressure on the price and it will move upwards like other stock after the current spate of IPOs.

@all nairalanders

Asked for information about Thomas Wyatt before but no feedback.
Does anybody know anything about it?
The company was moribund for years but some core investors took position early this year and now there is technical suspension for a rights issue.
Does anyone know what is happening and have any advice?

@Nairalanders

I need a stockbroker with very good internet communication and can be relied upon to get documents from Registrars for someone abroad.
A broker that will be satisfied with just the commission they receive from your transactions.
One that will buy for you at cheapest price and sell for you at highest and not at prices that will get them maximum commission.
A trustworthy stockbroker.
Thank you all.

Right oh!!!

Got Transcorp previous close wrong.

My guess is it will rise regardless of news since most of the negative news were contrived anyway
and there are lots of people waiting to get Transcorp cheap.

Don´t think it´s what they call a "dead ct´s bounce".

We´ll see.

Attn All:

Transcorp gained maximum today, Friday 21, in heavy trading.
Has it bottomed out?
Have the long term investors pounced?

Re: Transcorp.

I now believe it is not just the desire for instant gratification although the desire to make a quick
capital does contribute - hence so many traders in market.

It is more likely, at this point, that people in the know are trying to talk down the price so it can
take position cheaply.

Eat their cake and have it.

Brokers love day traders. They get their commission whether you buy or sell.

I will not be selling any of my shares and hope to buy more if the price falls significantly below
Friday's close.

@Temmie10

Was not accusing you of being anti-transcorp but saying things like the new MD is all hype and by implication no action was incorrect.

I agree there was a lot of sleek presentations prior to his arrival. These make people like me very suspicious but then almost all the banks have been doing the same thing. You may say "but the bank shares have been going up" and would be right if you want to buy, make a quick profit and get out but certainly can't rest easy with your money in some of these banks stocks.

Nitel, Mtel and SAT3 are all money spinners that have been allowed to waste due to the incompetence and corruption of our leaders. Transcorp looks like putting things right. Bet you would have wanted to be an investor in MTN nigeria when they first came here. Why do you think they have not floated on the NSE? They talked about it for years.

In a short while with the finance already arranged the Transcorp franchises will take off. Meanwhile many people are hoping for the price to crash so they can get in. We will wait and see.

Must admit to buying a substantial amount of Transcorp at the private placement.

I believe in the ideal of a megaplayer owned by rank and file Nigerians and not by fronts for government officials and politicians.

The company has been plagued by ruthless opponents determined to undermine "Obasanjo's creation" and by those within whose self-interest runs contrary to Transcorp.

This new guy has done a lot in the short time he has been at the helm, not least the restructuring of the management and raising the money to reposition Nitel and Mtel.

It is a buy and hold stock and I may buy some more if the price continues dropping.

There is a part of Atlanta inhabited by early investors in CocaCola. They are called CocaCola millionaires. Someday there will be Transcorp billionaires and I intend to be one of them.

Very well analysed Temmie10.
Even dangote sugar was only 130% subscribed. Despite monopoly and the hype.
No doubt Dangote Flour will gain after listing but not comaparable to Sugar.
There are so many other stocks demanding our Naira.
Will likely give this a miss or put a token amount.
