@Shigidi Thanks for the info re: RSI. Will see how it works for a basic fundamentalist like myself. Samstone4 ![]() |
@Shigidi You can save me a lot of reading by telling me: RSI = 100 - 100/(1+RS) What indicates a buy? Is it a high or low RSI? Please spoil me by telling me. Thanks. Samstone4 ![]() |
@CrazyT Even as an adult you sometimes need to say "what the heck!" and splash out. Birthday parties are some of the joys of our childhoods. The money spent in making them memorable is money very well invested in the happiness of our kids. You should introduce your children to investing but in a gradual calculated manner but must not divert money normally spent on their day to day enjoyments of their childhoods! Perhaps you should use windfalls e.g. unexpected money gifts or designated small sums from you on top of what they normally get. Almost like religion "you can take the horse to the river but you cannot force it to drink". Those of your kids that will become keen investors will persist when they are out of your control others will escape from your tyranny of stock investing! Goodluck. Samstone4 ![]() |
@Nateevs Got my Oceanic cerificate some weeks ago. Harass your broker. Goodluck! Samstone4 ![]() |
@maximeo You will need to contact the registrar for CCNN. Either ask your broker (or a broker) in Nigeria for the name of the registrar or google CCNN Nigeria and hopefully you can get their registrar phone number. Usually not worthwhile emailing these companies. Goodluck! Samstone4 ![]() |
@easimoni, yodiyokun The peculiarity of Costain is that it was almost a moribund company until Shoreline bought into it early this year or late last year hence you will expect astronomical growth in the early years. They are starting from a very low point. Samstone4 ![]() |
@aktopgun Congratulations! Great Christmas present. Start the baby's account right away with AIICO public offer. Samstone4 ![]() |
@lawalIdowu, Nairalanders I know proshareng.com have a list of the top bids and offers for the day with their stockmarket reports. Don't know where to get the comprehensive list for all the bids and offers. Will like to know where to get the bids and offers live! Samstone4 ![]() |
@youngdoc Are you a medical student or a doctor? How is it possible to be a medical student of Surgery in the USA? @Wanajo Betaglass used to be called Delta Glass. Betaglass, NBC and A.G.Leventis are all controlled by the Leventis family. I believe they are Greek-Nigerians. Samstone4 ![]() |
@Pumping777,Oore Thanks. Got the megaload Access allotment. Very generous of you. Not as bad as those 1st Bank people. My heart goes out for those poor people that could not reach the minimum. Samstone4 ![]() |
@pumping777 I too could not use the link you provided for Access allotment. The problem is even the megaload thing does not seem to work for me - never used it before and have even tried registering etc. Will need time to master it. Please just copy and paste the allotment here. Many thanks! Samstone4 ![]() |
@kingzy Fundamentalist or Taliban means those who study the fundamentals of a company and invest on the basis of its prospect, usually these are longterm investors. Suicide bombers are momentum investors. These are speculators who trade short term. They aim to catch the shares just as they are starting to rise and sell before they start to fall. Most investors are a mixture of both in varying proportions. Happy hunting. Samstone4 ![]() |
@kem4 Don't know why your father will not give you the information you ask or is it you don't believe what he has told you? With 1.4 million Naira at 33 Naira each you will have applied for about 42,000 shares in the public offer. As you may not be aware, the offer was very heavily oversubscribed. Not certain how many units you would have got but the basis of allotment was put on this thread many pages back. I suggest you go back about 50 pages or so. I don't remember as I did not apply for any of the PO. Goodluck. Samstone4 ![]() |
@bjluv Heritage fund is a mutual fund(units trust). I'm sure it will do well but I feel mutual funds are best for those with either low capital or inexperienced in stocks or don't have time to play the market. It's like a group of professionals managing your portfolio and charging you a management fee. Hope of help. Happy hunting. Samstone4 ![]() |
@Roughcut, Nairalanders, I did not buy Dangote Flour because like many others thought it was overrated. Hear that those who applied for 100,000 will only get 12,000 units! Should be good for speculators to quickly get in and out. Perhaps use Fatherof2 25% formula. Goodluck. I am basically a fundamentalist with the occasional momentum streak or is it Taliban with suicide bomber streak? Happy hunting. Samstone4 ![]() |
@Ben0524 You can start with another stockbroker at anytime and transfer your stocks at a later date. Not sure what forms you need to transfer your stocks to the control of your new broker - assuming your stocks are under CSCS. If your shares are in certificates nothing need concern your abandoned brokers. I hear that the brokers are a bit more cooperative nowadays due to better regulation. Make sure you study your new broker very carefully before moving your account so as not to move from the fryingpan into the fire! If you did not enter your CSCS number on your application form all it means is that you will have to wait for your share certificate which will then have to be verified before it can be de-materialised to CSCS. A long process. Hope of some help. Samstone4 ![]() |
@Tonyjon I have a reasonable holding in Transcorp and have stuck with them all along - 100% Nigerian etc but must admit I have started to shake. My contact however assures me not to worry about Nitel being taken over by government. My observation is the extent of animosity people have towards the company - mind-boggling! Even if the promoters have lost influence in this administration there are probably enough "poisoned chalice" in Nitel now to discourage government taking it back. Note the recent court award of billions to the another company due to non-performance of SAT3, salaries backlog plus the fact that NNPC has failed to keep to their pledge to have the refineries working again by December. Bear in mind that all these moguls that appear to be at loggerhead in public know one another well and often are friends. In short, I will probably sell some, if I need the money but won't be bailing. @all Although AG Leventis may appear to be dong well it has always had a reputation for not paying good dividend - same with NBC. There has been suggestion of the main shareholders getting their profits via their imports for new machineries etc, if you know what I mean. So I will tread cautiously here. Samstone4 ![]() |
@all Why are so many people insistent on learning the secret of Father Of2? He says he buys on rumours and sells on news. That he aims for 25% gain only. He gets all his information from the newspapers. Why are these reasons so unreasonable? Even if there is a secret he should not be pressured to reveal so long as he informs us of his decisions. Those who trust him can follow and others ignore. @Fof2 Why so much emphasis on Offshore and onshore? This is a borderless platform where we all benefit from the exchange of information. Let us keep this a united medium and behave like the new Nigerians not the old one. Samstone4 ![]() |
@ Nairalanders Does anybody know when the allotment for 1st bank additional rights plus any refunds will happen? Samstone4 ![]() |
@tommy t, damoche07 & easimoni I think what is driving Japaul is the fact that the company was going to pull the PO due to demand by the oil majors. It should be a long term and a short term stock. What happens short term will depend on how Japaul accommodates the majors demand Whether by allotting from the PO or by creating new shares by way of private placement. The latter will reduce the immediate upwards trajectory but long term will remain sound. Happy hunting. Samstone4 ![]() |
@ Ololufemi The advantage about having a company is that it is like another person that you own completely. Also it is perfectly legal for your company to apply for shares in the same company that you are applying. Strictly not legal for you to use your siblings names with the intention of transferring to yourself, although very hard to prove. If you have children, probably better to buy in their names. I suppose it all depends on the volume of your transactions - whether you consider the set up cost of a company worthwhile. If you know an accountant, it may be cheaper to do it through one. Good luck. Samstone4 ![]() |
@ Nzemillion Do a google search for meristem registrars and you can get their number from their "contact us" page. The number works as I spoke with them this past week. Happy hunting. Samstone4 ![]() |
@Ben0524 I suspect that your broker can't be bothered about your order. Perhaps she feels the amount involved is too small. Equity assurance is a relatively small company therefore illiquid. When I bought some months ago it took over a week for them to buy. This does not explain why your broker should tell you she hasn't checked. Good that you cancelled it. Should keep her on her toes next time you place an order. Samstone4 ![]() |
@Ololufemi Just wanted to check whether my brokers ripped me off or not. I agree with Wanajo, it is tidier to use your company(ies) to buy the shares. @wanajo Very persuasive and comprehensive bird's eyeview of the situation. You must be a stockbroker? I agree with you that people there is unlikely to be any prolonged bear market. People will not jump in wholeheartedly into the POs like for 1st Bank. Besides even if we do the monies Will be returned earlier because: 1) No more stupid CBN verification of everybody and 2) New SEC guidelines on allotments and return of monies. @Oshkosh I have been a perennial Transcorp optimist but I'm shaking a bit. My sources tell me nothing to worry about and I don't think Government will want to take on the expenses when the BPE are already in court for not paying 5 year salaries allegedly promised to disengaged workers at privatisation. The new directors should make a difference with all the "yeye" goings on there. It has been embarrassing to me - an ardent advocate of Transcorp ideal! With greater honesty from the board, the company will do well. I still believe the new MD has a workable strategy that will reap bounties. My main problem with the company has been one of credibility. It was especially damaging when one of the departed directors denied that the PO was undersubscribed. Guess he was in a very difficult situation at a very sensitive time for the company. Fighting over which contractors to supply equipment was very damaging. It looked like they were all trying to give the job to their people. We all know what has been gong on with Siemens, Haliburton, Wilbros etc Samstone4 ![]() |
@ ololufemi Tried crossing with my sister for an IPO. Problem was the broker said they had to sell her shares and then buy it before it was transferred to my name. That meant I had to pay commission twice. Was that your experience? Samstone4 ![]() |
@aktopgun Japaul is come and gone. Good offer with bright future. Still worth buying at 6.02 Naira, the suspension price. Heard they wanted to pull the offer, as oil majors wanted the lot, but SEC will not allow. I bought into it and would have bought a lot more but for cashflow problem. Samstone4 ![]() |

@Rhemagirl You can't expect your brokers to be more honest than your bankers etc. Like most professionals that handle money in Nigeria they are more interested in making money from you than for you. My suggestion is to minimise your loss by: 1} have more than one broker 2}Always be time and price specific when you place your orders e.g. Sell UACN today 21 November at minimum of 60N or buy Costain tomorrow, Thursday 22 November, at maximum of 20 Naira. If you need urgent action, you may say buy or sell today - this will give them a maximum of 5% either side of previous close. 3} Avoid letting your broker know what you gameplan is, unless you trust him or her. The above seem very Machiavellian but it is based on experience in dealing with brokers and bankers in Nigeria. Happy hunting. Samstone4 ![]() |
damoche07:@damoche07 Have just contacted a very high source. Many offers of investments in Transcorp have been rebuffed by those who wish to maintain control of the company. The senate probe of Nitel should force them to accept provided there are Nigerians. This will be good for small shareholders. Still optimistic. Samstone4 ![]() |
@pangolo,jehosaphat I don't think the refund of 10 billion Naira to 1st Bank has anything to do with current travails of Nitel so it will go ahead regardless. The refund was announced months ago. As a Transcorp shareholder it's handling is fast becoming a national embarrassment - 100% Nigerian. I am glad that the banks have insisted on the appointment of the new directors. A lot of the initial difficulties were due to differences between the big shareholders. Some of them clearly with conflict of interest between Transcorp and their personal businesses. I think all will be well with the senate hearings, as Transcorp paid too much for the company. They are also allegation of sabotage of Nitel by striking workers and competitors. Good news is I now regularly get calls made through MTel from Nigeria. Samstone4 ![]() |
@aowele If you bought your Union Bank shares before the qualification date you will get the dividend and the bonus should you sell anytime from today. Samstone4 ![]() |
@ Iyke-D I hear the news about 1st bank and UBA buying into Transcorp is in the latest edition of "Stockwatch" - a Nigerian weekly. Even if it is conversion of equity into shares it is still brilliant news for transcorp: 1) they no longer have to service the debt 2) it shows that these big organisations have confidence in the future of the company and 3) it dilutes the power of the original mega-investors I heard about the return of the 10 billion Naira ILL money to 1st Bank many months ago. I believe it was the Managing Director that announced it. It makes me wonder why longe was really sacked, as the loan was guaranteed. it was reassuring at the time as it demonstrated that they was no directors stitch-up of the shareholders. With all the money 1st Bank has raised from the hybrid offer, the ILL money should go straight to us shareholders. I think the bull run is genuine. Nobody is going to rush into PO at full throttle again as for 1st bank. Happy hunting. Samstone4 ![]() |
