TINUBU’S FOUR LEGACY PROJECTS WILL LINK ALL SIX GEOPOLITICAL ZONES SAYS UMAHI AS ECOWAS BANK MOVES TO APPROVE FUND FOR CALABAR-ABUJA SUPER HIGHWAY

The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's four legacy road projects as a transformative national infrastructure network that will connect all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, unlock economic opportunities, boost food security, and accelerate regional integration.

Umahi stated this on Monday, June 8, 2026, while receiving a delegation from the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), led by Maimouna Sidibe, Head of the Basic Infrastructure Division, Department of Public Sector Corporations, at his office in Abuja.

The EBID team is currently undertaking appraisal activities ahead of the approval of financing for Section One of the Trans-Sahara Super Highway, one of President Tinubu's landmark legacy projects.

Welcoming the delegation, the Minister explained that the President's four legacy road projects were deliberately designed to function as an interconnected national transport network.

"Let me say that the entire four Legacy Projects of Mr. President are interconnected in a loop," Umahi said.

He explained that the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway seamlessly links with the Trans-Sahara Super Highway through Ndibe Beach in Cross River State.

According to him, Section One of the Trans-Sahara Super Highway spans 123.64 kilometres and runs from Ndibe Beach to the Benue border, while additional sections through Benue, Kogi and Nasarawa States have already been awarded.

The Minister noted that the historic route has existed since colonial times, serving as a major corridor for trade and agricultural activities.

"It has long existed and remains a major food corridor. It is critical to food sufficiency in our country," he stated.

Highlighting the economic significance of the project, Umahi said the highway would connect major agricultural belts across the country, including Ebonyi, Benue and Cross River States, while significantly reducing travel time between Calabar and Abuja.

"This route will shorten travel time from Calabar to Abuja to about four hours. It is therefore a very important corridor," he said.

Beyond transportation, the Minister revealed plans to harness existing dams along the corridor for irrigation and renewable energy generation, creating new opportunities for industrialization, investment and job creation.

"There are many benefits to this project. Beyond tolling and corridor development for investment returns, it will generate numerous jobs, both direct and indirect. There will be factories along the corridor, power projects, and significant traffic volumes on the road," he added.

Umahi further explained how the Trans-Sahara Super Highway connects to the fourth Legacy Project through the Abuja-Akwanga Road corridor, extending through Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, Biu and Maiduguri.

He noted that the recently flagged-off Gombe-Biu section covers 125 kilometres and is being constructed as a six-lane highway, while procurement activities are ongoing for the Bauchi-Gombe section.

He also outlined plans to link the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway through a new route beginning at Victoria Island, traversing a 3.5-kilometre tunnel, Ogogoro Island and Snake Island before connecting to Badagry.

"When you look at all of this on a map, you see a loop. All the geopolitical zones are included," Umahi said.

"If you start from Sokoto, you can access all six geopolitical zones within two days. It is a remarkable development."

Commending the contractor handling Section One of the Trans-Sahara Super Highway, Infioues, the Minister disclosed that work has already exceeded 20 percent completion.

"My concern is that we need to fast-track the loan component because once they reach 30 percent completion, payments will become necessary," he said.

He described the visit of the EBID delegation as timely and praised the bank for its commitment to supporting the strategic project.

"That is why your visit is very timely, and we commend you highly. I also appreciate the meeting we had earlier. It was very fruitful, and I believe we are aligned in terms of enthusiasm and speed of execution."

Earlier, leader of the EBID mission, Maimouna Sidibe, reaffirmed the bank's commitment to supporting the project, describing it as a priority infrastructure investment.

"We are very honored to contribute to the financing of this very important project, which have been submitted last week to our first credit committee."

Sidibe disclosed that the project had already received positive consideration from the bank's first credit committee and had advanced to the appraisal stage.

"The members find this project very important and encourage the department to come to finalize the instruction of the projects."

She explained that the delegation's visit included consultations with key government agencies as well as site inspections to assess project implementation, environmental compliance and social safeguards.

According to her, the project is expected to proceed to the bank's second credit committee next week before being presented to the Board of Executive Directors in early July for final approval.

Sidibe commended the Federal Government's commitment to the project, noting that counterpart funding obligations had already been substantially fulfilled.

"I have to say that the project is of a very top priority for the administration, and that's why the administration have paid 30 percent of the counterpart money."

She also praised the quality of work already delivered on the project and expressed confidence in the durability of the road infrastructure.

"The members of the credit committees said that this technology is very, very good and already experienced on Lagos-Calabar, and the road duration will be at least for 50 years."

The delegation included Mathieu Anno, Head of the Environment and Sustainability Unit at EBID; Onimisi Aliyu, Financial Analyst at EBID; Blaghe Dougah, Head of ESG Department at Sky Capital Europe; and Sheka Humphrey of Influence International, the project contractor.

Politics2027: No Zoning Arrangement For Single Term Of Four Years In Ebonyi North – Nweb by Samuelnwite2(op): 12:29pm On Jun 03
2027: No zoning arrangement for single term of four years in Ebonyi North – Nwebonyi

Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and senator representing Ebonyi North, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has dismissed claims that he is violating an alleged zoning arrangement limiting senators from the district to a single four-year tenure, insisting that there is no political or constitutional basis for him to forgo a second term bid in 2027.

Nwebonyi was reacting to comments reportedly made by his opponent and senatorial candidate under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Chikadoli Ojimba, who urged him to withdraw from the race on the grounds of an alleged one-term agreement in Ebonyi North Senatorial District.

Speaking with journalists in Abakaliki on Sunday, the lawmaker maintained that the purported arrangement had no binding effect, noting that former Governor of Ebonyi State and ex-senator representing Ebonyi North, Sam Egwu, served two terms in the Senate.

“I am not the first senator from Ebonyi North to seek a second term. Senator Sam Egwu, the first civilian governor of Ebonyi State, served two terms in the Senate representing Ebonyi North. By the grace of God, I will also serve a second term,” Nwebonyi said.

The senator declared that he had no formidable rival ahead of the 2027 senatorial election, attributing his confidence to what he described as his track record of effective representation and impactful constituency projects.

Taking a swipe at some opposition candidates seeking elective offices, Nwebonyi argued that leadership should be built on experience, competence and a proven record of public service.

“Politics is not an avenue for making money. Those coming into politics with such expectations should reconsider. Public service is about sacrifice and service to the people,” he stated.

The senator also expressed confidence in the electoral fortunes of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that the party remained firmly entrenched in Ebonyi State.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as increased federal attention to the South-East, particularly Ebonyi State, citing ongoing federal road projects as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the region.

Nwebonyi equally reaffirmed his support for Governor Francis Nwifuru, describing him as a unifying figure whose leadership had strengthened cohesion across Ebonyi State, especially within the Izzi clan.

Reacting to reports of alleged divisions among the Izzi people, the senator dismissed the claims as unfounded, insisting that the clan was more united than ever under Governor Nwifuru’s administration.

According to him, the era of political fragmentation driven by sectional interests had passed, urging political stakeholders to embrace unity and work collectively for the development of the state.

“We are united, focused and committed to the progress of Ebonyi State. The politics of division is behind us, and our people are determined to move forward together,” he said.

Why Ebonyi North Should support & Re-Elect Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi:

Since the return of democracy, Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone has rarely witnessed this level of visibility, representation, and active participation at the National Assembly.

The emergence of Distinguished Sen. Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has brought renewed purpose, stronger representation, and measurable development across the zone.

As the 2027 general elections approach, the people of Ebonyi North have clear reasons to sustain their confidence in his leadership and support his return to the Senate.

Strong and Effective Representation
From the beginning of his tenure, Senator Nwebonyi demonstrated readiness and capacity for effective leadership.
Unlike the passive representation experienced in the past, he has maintained a strong presence in Senate proceedings through active debates, strategic legislative contributions, and the sponsorship of impactful bills and motions.

His performance and influence within the Red Chamber earned him the position of Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate as a first-term senator. He also serves as Chairman and Co-Chairman of important committees & Member of #ECOWAS Parliament, reflecting the confidence and respect he commands among his colleagues.

Through his efforts, the voice of Ebonyi North has remained visible, respected, and influential at the national level and global.

•Massive Empowerment Programs:

Within his first six months in office, Senator Nwebonyi carried out one of the most extensive empowerment programs seen in the country.
Hundreds of vehicles, buses, minibuses, motorcycles, tricycles, grinding machines, and other working tools were distributed to constituents across the four local government areas of Ebonyi North.
These interventions were designed to improve livelihoods, encourage self-reliance, support small businesses, and reduce economic hardship among the people.

•Commitment to Education:

Education remains one of the pillars of his leadership.
Through " Ohamadike Scholarship Program", which began even before his election into the Senate, many students from less privileged backgrounds have received financial support to pursue higher education and professional studies.
The initiative has continued to give hope to talented young people whose academic dreams could have been affected by financial challenges.
His commitment to education reflects a long-term investment in the future of Ebonyi North.

•Infrastructure and Road Development:

In just over three years, Ebonyi North has experienced major infrastructural development widely regarded as one of the most significant since the creation of Ebonyi State.

Road construction projects are ongoing across communities in the four local government areas of the zone, improving transportation, opening rural areas for economic growth, and connecting previously underserved communities.

He also attracted a major federal highway project linking Ebonyi State to Benue and Abuja, with construction currently in progress.
In addition, modern street lighting projects have been installed across several towns and communities, improving security, enhancing movement at night, and contributing to better living conditions.

Senator Nwebonyi has consistently maintained that leadership should produce visible results that directly affect the lives of ordinary people. According to him:
“Connecting communities for more economic activities and overall development, that is my business in politics, not building mansions.”
This statement reflects his people-oriented approach to governance and development.
Housing and Social Welfare
Understanding the realities faced by many vulnerable families, Senator Nwebonyi facilitated the construction of more than 300 houses for widows, poor families, and loyal party supporters across Ebonyi North.
This intervention has restored dignity, shelter, and hope to many citizens who previously struggled with difficult living conditions.
His approach to leadership continues to reflect compassion, accessibility, and grassroots connection.

•Agricultural Support and Food Security:

Agriculture remains the backbone of many rural communities in Ebonyi North, and Senator Nwebonyi has continued to support farmers through annual agricultural empowerment programs.
Farmers receive farming inputs, equipment, and financial assistance aimed at increasing food production, strengthening rural incomes, and easing the effects of economic hardship.
These interventions have encouraged local farming activities and improved productivity across the zone.

•Job Creation and Federal Appointments:

One of the major achievements of Senator Nwebonyi’s representation is the expansion of opportunities for young people and qualified professionals from Ebonyi North.
Within three years in the Senate, he facilitated employment opportunities for youths in several federal agencies and parastatals, helping many graduates secure stable careers.
He has also attracted federal appointments for qualified Ebonyians across ministries, agencies, and commissions, strengthening the presence and participation of Ebonyi North in national institutions.

•Skills Acquisition and Human Capacity Development:

Recognizing the importance of practical skills in today’s economy, Senator Nwebonyi introduced structured skills acquisition programs for women and youths.
These programs provide vocational training, entrepreneurial support, and practical knowledge that enable participants to become self-employed and financially independent.
To ensure long-term sustainability, he sponsored a bill for the establishment of a School of Skills and Vocational Studies aimed at promoting technical education and human capacity development in the region.

•Youth and Sports Development:

Senator Nwebonyi has also demonstrated strong commitment to youth engagement through sports development initiatives across Ebonyi North.
What started as support for local sporting activities has grown into an organized annual sports competition that promotes unity, talent discovery, healthy community engagement, and grassroots participation.
The initiative continues to encourage young talents while strengthening social harmony across communities.

PoliticsRe: 40 Notable Quotes From Peter Obi by Samuelnwite2(m): 6:16am On Jan 04, 2023
Enemyofpeace:
1. No nation can survive without saving for tomorrow.

2. The reason why we are talking about massive borrowing today is because we didn’t save yesterday

3. Nigeria is not a producing country. The cumulative effect of what we are suffering today is bad leadership.

4. Nigerians remain hopeful for a national rebirth, which implies returning Nigeria to Nigerians; farmers, teachers and students, lecturers, artisans, workers, pensioners and over a hundred million poor Nigerians who are not sure where their next meal will come from.

5. We have to move from sharing formula to production formula. All our young people in their productive age are not doing anything, so we are going to have a crisis.

6. Those who steal, if they come to church they will give them front seats, so, why would they not steal? They are the ones who are given chieftaincy titles, they are the ones who get titles in the world. So, we need to change all that.

7. In the battle to retake Nigerian, the odds are great and seemingly insurmountable, but with our commitment, patriotism and understanding that we are doing, what we are supposed to do for our country, lest she shall die, we shall move on discontent with what is and focused on enthroning what ought to be. In doing this, our battle cry shall remain: get your PVC and become part of this great liberation!

8. Such a noble task [of restoring Nigeria to Nigerians] brooks no conscientious objectors. I hardly use war metaphors for political analysis due to my belief that politics is not adversarial and not war.

9. The issue of tackling corruption and reducing the cost of governance is simple as it will start with me and my family members.

10. There is no need creating an office of the first lady to pacify women, when I can make them handle critical positions in Nigeria.

11. If a man has not created wealth, he cannot manage wealth

12. I remember Ngozi Okonjo Iweala crying everyday, begging us to save this monies for the rainy day. Most governors disagreed. They said let us share it. Now we are borrowing to feed.

13. I don’t have any single property in this country outside Onitsha. If you see any property outside Onitsha and they say it belongs to Mr. Peter Obi, burn it!

14. When you are borrowing for consumption, it gets to a stage when you cannot control it.

15. I beg you to participate more in politics, the society we help them abuse today will take its revenge tomorrow

16. If I sleep in a hotel and have to pay N250,000 a night, I will be awake all night feeling like I was robbed.

17. The only way out of recession is to spend for growth. You can only spend for growth either from savings or from borrowing. The question is: what are you borrowing for? Are you borrowing for consumption or for production? When you borrow for consumption, you are heading for disaster.

18. I have never travelled abroad for medical checkup, even as a Governor. I won’t start now

19. We shall use percentages to share the Nigerian budget to the critical sectors like hunger, health, education, security, etc., before talking of the office of the president.

20. Unemployment is worsening. Our unemployment ratio moved from 14.8% in 2017 to 18.8% this year. This means that more people have lost their jobs. We can’t survive like this.

21. To you young people, take back your country. It is your future they are toying with.

22. We cannot aim for skyscrapers when we cannot maintain simple toilets.

23. I am not desperate to be President, I am desperate to see Nigeria work

24. I am a Nigerian running to serve every Nigerian. I urge a show of respect for every candidate, tribe, religion, and person.

25. Whenever I hear of no structure, my answer to it is simple; the 100 million Nigerians that live in poverty will be the structure. The 35 million Nigerians who don’t know where their next meal will come from will be the structure.

26. Every Nigerian child must be prepared for leadership, and every Nigerian leader must work for all Nigerian children.

27. The common goal is to make Nigeria better. Elections are a democratic contest and need not be adversarial.

28. The society we abuse today will take its revenge on our children tomorrow. No country survives by recklessness and extravagance. Unless the present dangerous trend of governmental failure is reversed, the Nigerian child remains disadvantaged.

29. Nothing can be achieved with festering insecurity. Diametric security remains the bedrock of peaceful nations and thriving democracies. As we advance, proactive security will be crucial in regaining control of our communities. Government, for its part, must meet its responsibility to protect its citizens

30. But for bad governance, Nigeria has no business with poverty and unemployment.

31. Every part of Nigeria has the potential to grow and compete, but we are not doing that

32. As a nation, we cannot be insensitive to the ongoing bloodletting and targeting of the most vulnerable and helpless in our society. Security measures must be proactive and holistic, more so in areas close to ungoverned rural and urban communities.

33. No country grows economically with a 35 per cent unemployment rate, which, when combined with under-employment, will be 55 per cent. That’s a figure of 60 per cent of unemployed Nigerians being youths—the greatest asset of any nation.

34. We must begin to look at the history of people who vie for any political positions in our country. Where was the person 25 years ago? What was he/she doing? How has he/she managed wealth and other leadership positions?

35. It is time we shunned ethnic and religious sentiments and vote a Nigerian leader who will unite every section of the country and ensure the integrated development of the nation.

36. Nigerian women are assets that need to be put to good use. Let’s take a cue from Bangladesh, where the current and longest-serving Prime Minister is a woman. Their opposition leader is also a woman.

37. I have always sued for the support of small businesses. They are the engine of economic growth. With well articulated fiscal and monetary policies, our small business sector will boom and catalyze the economy for more growth and development.

38. A father must leave a better place for the children. That’s why he sacrifices to make life better for them. That is what leadership should be.

39. We need the type of growth that will educate our children, and provide primary health care for all the communities. We don’t need development based on speculations that government officials are celebrating all over the place.

40. Nobody is talking about production. The country is not productive; that is why we are preoccupied with sharing. If we are productive, it will be very easy for Nigeria to grow and create jobs and do what others are doing.

Final Thoughts
Peter Obi is a good definition of an inspirational leader. His leadership style during his tenure as the Governor of Anambra State is a subject of leadership discussion, he has contributed immensely to the growth and development of Anambra State, Nigeria and Africa.

PoliticsIgbo President 2023 by Samuelnwite2(op): 9:50am On Mar 18, 2022
Nigeria will not survive what some tribalistic Yoruba people are planning for 2023. Igbo presidency must be on the table now. A Yoruba person can’t be president in 2023 because power will return to the North after another 8yrs. Igbos are Nigerians too. All the competent people are not in the South West. Power was not created for only Yoruba people. #Equity #Fairness #Justice
