Miranda episode 7

I woke up in discomfort, oh yeah I didn't sleep on my bed. I slept in the neighbour's room, fortunately her roommate was out that night.
"Maybe I overreacted a bit" I thought to myself. "Nah, I was just shocked" I finally said.
I dressed up for school without the notice of anyone. I planned on visiting my aunt this weekend, at least a break from all the drama. "A little extra cash won't be bad" I said while putting on my shoes.
During my 11am class I kept thinking on the Aunt to pay a visit. Then it clicked 'Aunt maria'. How didn't I think of her all the while? She was really cool. She has no kids yet, so there'd be less house chores. She was my dad's favourite sister and one of my favorites too. We also shared similar interests in movies, music and celeb life.
"Hello, Aunt Maria how are you? Its Miranda".

"Mimi, I'm good, its been a while. How is school?"
"School is alright. Can I come over for the weekend?"
"Oh sure darling, I've missed you, in fact you all. We sure have a lot to catch up on"
"Haha, sure thing Aunt, I'll come this evening, so I'll leave on Sunday"
"How's everyone? I need to visit pretty soon" she said as another professor walked in.
"They're good Aunt, I'll see you later. I have a class now.
"Alright Mimi, see you soon"
It was a bright Saturday morning and Aunt maria decided to go shopping, well I thought it was for just groceries. Apparently, she looked a lot excited than usual. My sweet Aunt, she had been married for over seven years without a child and it really gave her marriage hiccups. A few times have I heard Dad complain about the maltreatment she always received from her husband Dr Reynold, as he loves to be called. Personally, I thought she was too good for him.
"Aunt, its such a beautiful day, don't you agree?"
"Yes Mimi, and my husband gets back too, so I plan on giving you guys a treat, let's say my valentine treat" she said with a finger to her lips indicating to keep it a secret.
"But Aunt, that was more than a week ago"
"Yes, but we didn't spend time together"
"Alright then, I'll get the table set" I said about to stand
"No no, don't bother, its my treat remember"
Everything looked fantastic at dinner, I took major interest in the desserts. They were delicious.
Just before it was 8pm, her husband arrived.
"Hey baby, how was your trip"
"We thank God" was all he said. Simple "it was fine or good" I never understand older people though.
"I made something good, I'm sure the aroma already flooded your thoughts, I'm sure you'll love it"
"Can all these wait for some other time?"
"Common baby, its my little treat, don't let it all go to a waste"
"Good evening Dr Rey, welcome"...

Miranda Episode 6

It was 11pm and still no sign of Desmond, I got very worried. I also became very thirsty since my wine was already exhausted. 'I hope he's alright' I said to myself.
'I gat energy, gat alotta energy...... I didn't notice my phone was even ringing. It was my mum.
"Hello Mimi, how are you?"
"I'm fine mum, how's everyone?"
"We are all fine, I thought you'd be asleep, how's school?" 'You thought, yet you still called' , I said to myself
"School is alright mummy, please tell Dad to check his email tomorrow"
"Eh hen, no problem, this one I'm hearing noise, where are you?"
"Ah han, I'm in my room, there's a party on the next street"
"Party on a weekday? Hmmmm anyways, your siblings sent their greetings"
"Yesso mummy, oh send them kisses"
"Goodnight my dear, check you up later"
"Sleep well mummy"
I was about putting the phone in my bag when I heard Desmond's voice.

"I searched all around, even at the top floor, seems it was stolen or I probably forgot it"
Sigh! "Well I guess I have to sought the bill"
"I really didn't want that, can I write you a check, ermm you could pick it up by uhmm next tomorrow? Oh that's the weekend, let's make it by Monday"
Did he really need to ask, he should have written it in the restroom already. He scribbled something and handed it over, it was 75k!!
'It wasn't such a bad night afterall' I said to myself. I asked for the POS without a waste of time and paid. I had just about 40k in my account atm but I wasn't bothered, 75 was coming in !!!
"You came in a car right?" Let's go now, you could drop me......
"Err, the thing is while I was searching for my stuff, my friend called to borrow it. I totally forgot he didn't even return"
"But how do you intend to go home then?"
"Well, I guess I'll grab a cab. I'm sure it was urgently needed.
Desmond definitely had a lot going on, I didn't exactly believe what he said but then my check brought me so much joy.
"Alright, but are you sure you'll be alright here? We could grab a cab together"
"Nah, I can't bother you with that, I'm fine dear, he might still return the car so I'll just....

Miranda episode 5

Who knew I'll sleep so deep to even miss my lecture and to think I set an alarm.
It was a Tuesday night but the road was extra busy. I got to my room by 10:30pm.
Pepe cultivated the habit of always locking the door, well the doors since we had another leading to the backyard. At times, I would stand endlessly knocking. I even began knocking when it wasn't locked.
I rushed into the room, I heard sounds from the bathroom. I couldn't tell if they were moans or people grumbling. I assumed Pepe to be asleep, I guess I was wrong.
The door made this loud noise at the opening but they seemed very distracted as no one noticed. "Pepe and men, this girl is never tired" I couldn't be bothered, I took off my clothes, put on my night wear and went to bed.
It felt like I slept for just two hours the next morning, all I could think of during my 9am class was my rice at 'Fine and Dine'.
As usual, the place was crowded, I hurriedly ordered my rice and chicken, it felt like I hadn't eaten for years.
"Hey pretty lady, what's good?
It was Desmond, the bug that wouldn't let me be. I sincerely thought he came by to settle the bill but apparently he came to 'rant' as always. We had English classes together and I always prayed he didn't show up.
"Well everything, how are you today?
"I'm glorious mehn, seeing your smile is enough for me" I forgot to mention, he always had his way with words. No doubt, he was good looking but I never felt the attraction.
"Mira, there's this cool restaurant I'll like to show you, I'm sure you'll love it" he said
Other times, it was a park, a club, or joint, a bar. He always knew somewhere new. Maybe if I agreed this time, he'll finally let me be.
"Alright, that's fine. Let's meet up by 7pm.
We didn't go together to the restaurant as Desmond claimed to be stuck in traffic so he just described it briefly.
The place seemed really nice, Valentine was over a week old but they still retained its decorations.
Desmond arrived about an hour later. "Take anything Mira, I'm here to spoil you" He kept ordering like he just hit a jackpot. I wasn't a greedy person so I ordered something affordable.
We talked, ate, laughed, talked some more. He wasn't interested in school stuff as he always drifted whenever the topic came up.
It was getting late already, I called on the waiter
"How much is the bill?" Desmond asked
"35,600 sir"
"Oh alright, I expected more" ehn? What did we eat for 35k already? I said to myself....

Miranda Episode 4

I told no one about my ordeal with Uncle Nnamdi especially Pepe, I didn't want anyone laughing at me. Thinking back, I was happy he couldn't recognise me ; thanks to Pepe who used up almost everything in her makeup kit that night. What would I have told my parents? What would my Aunt think of me?
It was two weeks to mid semester and I sincerely couldn't wait. I needed a break from all the drama at school and my room.

After four basic classes, I was heavy-eyed. I suspected hunger considering the fact that I slept really early last night. The pace at which I finished my jollof rice was amazing. Fine & Dine remained my favourite restaurant, their chefs were always so friendly.
I had about an hour, thirty minutes before my next class and decided to read a book or two. No way was it going to be 'school related", atleast one of those 'singles' books.
Before getting to that section of the library, my eyes peered a book titled 'common sense is not common' I chuckled faintly "is this for real?" I picked it up and immediately took a seat.
A million things crossed my mind as I opened the book, I thought of Pepe's friends Jacinta and Loretta. They were her favourite friends more like best friends since they visited almost everyday. They seemed like sisters but the only similarity was their complexion to Pepe's. Loretta was the finer one of the duo but she had this familiar smell to onions.
I preferred Jacinta to Loretta, she spoke less. Loretta lacked decorum, she could say a million things in a second, she was certainly worse than Pepe. Jacinta always sat on my bed to gist, at first I was very uncomfortable cause I thought "hey, she could be practicing theft" but not once was an item missing. She would occasionally offer me drinks, hugs and compliments.
Just as I thought about her, I got a call. It was Mr Nicholas, the manager of Fine and Dine. He was such a flirty person, his lips were extremely pink due to continuous licking. He could drool for anything on skirt. He has been chyking me for a while yet he was married with a kid. He was more than 10 years my age.
He invited me to have ice cream, it was my favorite blue bunny oreos filled one. Maybe I was wrong to tell him so much about myself. I hadn't taken it in months so I swiftly agreed. I had about an hour till my class so there was no rush.
He bought the biggest pack so we could share, he made it seem like it was a romantic date. Ewww.
"Would you want some for your friends?"
"Nah, I have a class soon. Before I get back, it'll be all melted. Next time maybe"
We talked for a while. We spoke on fashion and marriage even though he kept on diverting asking about my relationship status. He was beginning to bore me..
"I can't believe my eyes, isn't this nick?" Mr Nicholas glanced briefly at the lady but didn't respond. There were many empty tables so it ought to be his 'nick' I said to myself.
She approached our table "Nick, why haven't you been picking my calls" Women were fond of asking questions and answering themselves.
"Oh, its this waste bin that you've been wasting your time on, is that it?" One thing I couldn't take in my life were insults. I had a degree at defending people especially myself.
"Excuse me, be careful with your words. I can hear you perfectly"
"Was I whispering? The purpose is for you to hear well. You're like every other slut, he's using ice cream to woo you. My dear you don't own him.
"Kesha let's discuss outside please" he said...

Miranda. Episode 3

Mouth odour was my least expectation, at least not from a grown up like pepe. I began offering her minty gum frequently since it was an embarrassing thing to tell especially as we just became friends and roomies.
School seemed longer & boring on this particular Friday, classes weren't the bit intriguing. My classes ended at 3 and I had plans to sleep till the next day, it'll do me some good.
Entering the room, Pepe looked disorganized, she had things basically everywhere even on the bathroom floor.
"What's wrong?"

"Babe what's up, I'm searching for a short dress"
"What short dress? I mean what colour?"
"Its a black short confam dress, when you see it you'll know"
I had the particular dress out after looking into the 4th box.
"Considering having too many things, you have to separate them properly"
"I know mehn, no time oh! Are you interested in a party tonight" I paid little attention as I was taking my clothes off but I picked up the word 'party'
"Come and groove now, it'll be live"
The last party I attended was my high school prom and since I was such a wreck on the dance floor, I had little fun. In addition, my silly date decided to have a fever on that same night. My only consolation were the pictures I took.
"Are you inviting me to a party?"
"Yes now! One of my friends is hosting us, don't worry we'll stay at the VIP lounge" Did I hear us? Does this girl know the whole world? As each day passed, Pepe sounded more like a love-vendor. She always mentioned "I'll settle you" to most girls that visited our room, cause there were a lot of them who visited. They always came in bunches looking like breast feeding mothers.
I felt like my social life was below 0, I sure needed some spice. I put on a normal jean and my favourite blouse but Pepe didn't find it attractive. She searched through her things and offered another blouse, it was too pretty to reject. It showed a bit of cleavage but I didn't care after all it was a partyy.
Maylynn club, that's what I heard at the entrance, it was packed up. Within 10minutes Pepe was nowhere to be found. After an hour she returned with about 15 girls assigning them to different tables. These tables comprised of big bald headed and fat belled men. Most were on sun glasses, I didn't understand this trend but their heads were the source of concern. The A+ Pepe couldn't get at brushing, she got it at pimping. You go girl!!
"Mira baby won't you dance? You've been sitting all night. Its a party not a church service" well she had a point but how was I supposed to dance?
I gathered courage and stood moving to the booming mix from the DJ. I didn't move so much before I misbehave. Pepe whispered something to me, I couldn't hear properly but I certainly heard 'man' and 'look'. She repeated herself..
"That man likes you, he has been looking since we got in"
"No pepe I didn't come for anyone" At this point I began shouting, the DJ had had too much to drink
"Are you a baby? Have some fun tonight". I detested being called a baby, the disappointment I got from 'fine boy' swiftly crossed my mind "stupid boy, maybe a man would treat me better" I said to myself. The man came along..
He smelt familiar, I mean his perfume. I couldn't place it considering the fact that many people smell alike. He had sunglasses on like the other men but he wasn't totally bald like the rest. His voice seemed shady, it was unclear. It was more like he suffered from a severe cough "That's the way big men talk" I said to myself
He noticed I could barely hear much then he said "let's go baby"
I turned to Pepe, she gave me the go ahead with a wink, I felt better and safer. But deep down, I was fearful.
He chuckled for about 10 minutes before saying from the bathroom "All I want is a nice scrub on my back" was this man expecting me to get in the shower with him? I wasn't a virgin but he certainly wasn't my type.
I got carried away with the fashion magazine, it had my favourite celebrities in it.
"Are you ready for papilo?" I thought I heard someone else till I turned and saw his whole regalia off. Yes, I started looking from the bottom
"Uncle Nnamdi!!!" it was my favorite Aunt's husband
"Call me papilo not uncle" I fainted...

Miranda. episode 2

Resuming late was truly terrible. But Miranda Anukwe had to get a place to stay. I finally got a mini apartment with two rooms ; two beds in each, meaning two girls in each room. Each room had a single toilet & bathroom but we all shared a kitchen located outside the rooms.

I didn't care who my roommate was but I only hoped she could mind her business and take a shower always. I couldn't bear body odour.
I had an average family of two girls and two guys. Being the first kid wasn't so exciting as my siblings were still little atleast they were to my parents. We didn't live in luxury, we only ever got what we genuinely needed.
My parents finally paid for the apartment and I moved in two days later. I thought of going in to ask for help "what if I'm snubbed?" "Its better I carry them myself since its not so heavy" yes, I had just a medium sized box with two fancy bags. Maybe not so fancy but they were the finest bags at home.
I entered the room and it felt crowded. Apparently, my roommate possessed over 4 boxes with bags lying here and there. I felt intimidated.
I walked quickly to my bedside to drop my bags, although my eyes were still on her beautiful belongings.
"Hello, what's your name?"
"I'm Mira, I mean Miranda. I didn't notice I was stammering
"Yours?"
"Oh I'm Pepe"
I swear I heard 'pepper', this world is really something else. Why would a parent name a child 'pepper' I said to myself.
"Nice meeting you pepper"
She laughed really loud, I wondered what seemed so funny until she said "its pepe" such a dimwit I was.
"I'm so sorry pepe, but are all these yours?"
"Well, yes. I couldn't bring all my stuff, it was really difficult finding a good place and this happens to be smaller than I expected". Did I hear smaller? This was enough for my parents or maybe their pockets.
Pepe looked like a really big girl. She was more than 20 years of age, I knew that for sure. But nowadays no one could ever tell. I was going to be 19 in a few months but my family friends never believed. Even my high school friends thought I was older.
Our friendship was rapid. She seemed like a really cool babe. I immediately forgot my 'driving solo' principle and stood by my luggage gisting. Pepe was obviously a talkative, she said a millon things within a minute.
The stuff that came out of Pepe's mouth were unbelievable. But who was I to doubt her? She looked every bit of her words. She claimed to have visited the UK, the U.S, Canada, Germany, Italy and Dubai just within four months. Is this babe a pilot?
I had only been to Dubai for about two weeks during my grade 10 holidays. My favourite aunt took me along with her kids since her husband was never around, I took his space on this trip. I didn't talk a lot about this travelling subject before I fumble.
Pepe invited me to sit on her bed since it was already laid, I didn't notice I had been standing for about an hour. She received a call and stood up to pick her phone at the charging spot, she looked pretty excited by the call.
Immediately she was done, she said "That's my latest guy. He'll soon be coming to take me out for dinner, I'm so hungry. She came back to sit and was going through her phone.
"Eh hen these are the shoes I spoke about"
What was that stink? I wasn't sure if it smelt like a soak away, a gutter or spoilt beans. The odour was terrible.
"Its trending now" she eventually said
I almost threw up , it was 'Pepe's mouth'
"You can go through"....

Miranda. episode 1

O M G ! This place is certainly larger than I imagined. Too many activities were happening at a time. People rushing off to various classes, girls laughing loud, others showing PDA (public display of affection). I felt so lost.
I had no friend to inform me of when registration begun fully and it was two weeks overdue. I messed up forming 'miss solo'
Whew! I was finally done with a phase and decided to get a bottle of water at the cafeteria. As I walked in, a table of 3 guys seemed in such a haste. They almost swallowed their plates in a hurry. I chuckled. 'University of Kareo was truly a place to be'.

S N A P !!
I remembered I was directed to the library to get a list of books I would be needing. It was also an opportunity to take a good look at them. The library wasn't so close but at least I knew it'll be less noisy.
An arrow pointed to the receptionist's table, I got the list and decided to quickly peer at them before leaving.
Passing two shelves and I couldn't still recognise any book on the list. I was getting tired. I immediately took interest in the book titled '101 answers for singles' they say 'like attracts like' I had been single for so long I forgot what it entails to be in a relationship.
Trying to take out the book, five others fell to the ground. Shit! I earned the attention I didn't ask for. I felt embarrassed. It was such an awkward moment.
I knew people were staring at me. But this particular gaze felt intact, I looked back at them, I mean him. This guy was FINE. A normal eye contact wouldn't take more than 10 seconds but this glance was intense. He knew I knew he was staring. It was intentional.
"I'm sure he thinks I'm stupid' I said to myself. I quickly stood up and searched for a book in my bag. I needed to be distracted, thank goodness I found. I swiftly wrote the title of the book so I could purchase next time. "Should I walk quickly out of here"? "No this fine boy wouldn't only think I'm stupid but a total slowpoke". I decided to walk 'normally'

To my surprise "Mr fine boy" had already packed his books ready to leave while I was conversing with myself. I felt bliss in my heart. "was he coming to meet me"? this is more than a coincidence. I decided to drag my feet a bit so we could hook up at the exit like in those nollywood movies.
"Excuse me please" his voice couldn't be described as 'deep' it was 'INTENSE'. I took a moment before turning back only to hear, "Are you staying back or leaving? I'll like to pass". Bleep! I hurriedly moved....
